I know its been posted in the past, but I didn't pay attention. What are the checkpoints and times for the sweepers for the full and half? Is there a link somewhere for that info?

Thanks
Sunny

Hi Sunny,

This is from the 2006 Event Guide:

Half Marathon Pace Points/assumes it takes 15 min for last person to cross start line

Mile Mark: Location: Time:

3.5 Walt Disney World Speedway 1:11:00
6.3 MK Security Gate 1:56:00
8.1 MK Parking Lot (Daisy) 2:25:00
10.2 World Dr Ramp to Epcot 2:58:00

Marathon Pace Points/assumes it takes 10 min for the last person to cross start line

Mile Mark: Location: Time:

2.7 Epcot Main Entrance 0:53:00
3.3 Backstage Epcot at TestTrack 1:03:00
5.5 Epcot Drive Bridge 1:38:00
8.3 Walt Disney World Speedway 2:23:00
10 Disney's Contemporary Resort 2:50:00
13 Floridian Way 3:38:00
18 Animal Kingdom 4:58:00
20.5 Osceola Parkway 5:38:00

Two things - I hadn't realized these pace points are estimates, or that the "cushion" for the full is less than for the half. YIKES :scared1:

So....I have every intention of being far enough ahead of the sweepers, but, how will I know if I am close to being swept? Are there people on the course announcing that? Saying you have x minutes to get to this point or you are swept? And how do they actually stop you from continuing if there are people only a few feet in front of you? My DD21, is going with me in Jan and I wanted to register her for the full, and then have her be VERY s-l-o-w about crossing the start line....maybe have to retie her shoe, drop her water bottle, etc. She however does not think getting up for a 6AM start sounds like fun. Geez, what a party pooper!!

Hi All,

I just posted my first post on here this morning, and I'm being persistent now! I went out and did 4.5 miles today.

I just have a question for everyone here:

On 9/16 there is a half marathon up in northern MN, a great excuse to go to the cabin (it's 20 minutes away from where the race is). But, I haven't been training as I didn't really know I was going to do it. Now it is getting closer and the racing season is just about done up here in Minnesota and I am thinking that maybe I could just squeeze in this one last race... So, my options are as follows:

A. You didn't train, don't do the race.
B. Try for 10 miles one day in the next two weeks and make your decision after you see how that feels.
C. Register for the race, no matter how slow you do it you still get a cool shirt!
D. Other ideas? Please let me know!

So, if you don't mind my bugging you for information on my first day of membership in this club, please respond! I love reading all of your posts -- they are surely what got me out there this morning!

Ashley

Ashley - Welcome back. We started in the same corral at the 2005 1/2. I think your brother was with you also. I would go with C. But don't push yourself. If you haven't been training, you don't want to risk an injury. And if it's too much you can always stop.

Good luck.

I have a question for you all...how many times have you participated in the WDW marathon?

Drive by post right now. I did my first OFFICIAL marathon training long run today - 5 miles (as prescribed by MfM). I felt really good, I did a 10R/1W interval and finished 5 miles in 55:20 min/10:46 mpm. I'll have to be back to catch up later.

I have done the full marathon once and am doing Goofy in Jan.

Lynnda has done both the half and full once in different years.

Rich - My usual training pace for LR's including all stops to refill food and water in the cooler weather (18-20miles) is around 11:30. My marathon pace for the last 2 was around 10:47-10:59. that was about as fast as i could go!! In the summer i've been at 13:00 in extreme heat (90+deg) and that is about where i was for the 13.1 miles at the end of the 1/2 ironman. So, basically, just a little faster but not much!! I always leave my garmin running for stops b/c i figure that is pt. of the pace!

Well I got up at the weeeee hours of the morning so I could eat properly before doing my 10 miler. 1 more hr to let food settle & head out! Then taper officialy begins! I cannot believe it is time to taper for DL already!

Ashley-how far have you gone so far in your LR? If you think you can do it without injury & slowing down then I would at least give it a try. Remember DLF>DNF>>DNS. My best friend did the Minnie Marathon 15k with me this year & she put in very little training (and is carrying extra weight) and she was able to finish & not get swept. That being said, I would not advise that so listen to your body so it will be ready for future races! Welcome we always love getting new members!!

Pat-I think the cushion times for the full are less because they had 2 different starts so there were less people in each group than the 1/2.

Monte-the 2006 1/2 was my first, then did the Minnie Marathon 15k, doing DL 1/2 in 3 weeks & I'm doing the WDW 1/2 again in 2007. It seems I've become addicted to Disney racing :woohoo:

Cruella-That TNT event sound really cool. I am originally from Atlanta & grew up with mom doing the Peachtree Road Race. I plan on getting that one under my belt someday.

Thanks Melissa i think my measurement my be off. The half i ran in the spring ran at a 8:30 pace but when training i was at about 10:00. This leads me to believe that my measuring is a little low probally running father than i think. I measure with my car so i'm probally off on the distance. The power gel worked well will use it next weekend on lr to get used to it. thanks again for the help.

TiffJ -

The Peachtree is AWESOME. Absolutely an incredible race that inspires you to run faster and harder and do more races. At least that is what it did for me. Come run it with me next year - registration is the 3rd sunday in March. Usually it is full by tuesday so you have to get the application in FAST. There is a website that gives instructions to out of state racers. But any race that fills up 55,000 runners in 2 days HAS to be incredible!
