Wk of Aug 20--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

Today I rode the stationary bike for 10 miles, took 50 mins. to finish.

Judy, I feel the same way at times, I loose the weight only to gain it again...grrr....but I keep plugging along knowing that one day all this pain will pay off! lol :cool1: :thumbsup2

:yay: hang in there sista! :cheer2:

Judy, know that many are going thru the same as you. I'm glad we have this place to voice our feelings/experiences where others will get it. And to all for putting out the encouragement, thank you. Many of us needed to be reminded of that also. WISH Team support rocks!!!!!

I only got in a mile today & was feeling bad about it. But after stopping in here, I got my wind/focus back. Will grip my feather tighter tomorrow and keep moving forward.

Thank you so much for calling me an inspiration! It really means a lot to me. Part of what keeps me going is knowing that. People IRL have called me an inspiration, too. So I feel like if I threw in the towel now, I’d be letting a lot of people down.

I learned so much from a very dear friend who died of cancer. Having never smoked, chewed or drank, he was diagnosed with mouth cancer. He never once was negative or bitter. In fact, he would say, “people say ‘why me?’ but I say ‘why not me?’”. Those words were so profound to me. He was truly remarkable and did many remarkable things, including being the Red Sox Chaplain for 10 years. There was a huge traffic jam in Lexington on the days of his wakes. Around 3,000 people came to his wakes, including his butcher, his bank tellers, the cafeteria lady from his kids elementary school (and they were all adults by then), and on and on. Basically, he touched everyone he came in contact with. In our last conversation I said to him “I’ve learned so much from you” and he wrote on his magna doodle, “like what?”. I was taken aback by the question; I didn’t have a pre-thought answer. What came out of my mouth was “to always put people first”. I can’t tell you how many times over the years I have felt so remiss in not living that claim. I've felt having had the opportunity to be so close to such a remarkable man, I owe something back. So, when people say I am an inspiration, it makes me feel like maybe a tiny, little bit of Ernie rubbed off on me. Maybe in my own little way I am paying if forward. I can’t tell you how good that feels.

This spine stuff is turning me into a mush-ball. I better hit post quickly before I lose my nerve and delete it all!!!

Jodi - You work in Norwalk? I live in South Salem. Geez, you are so close. :wave2: Yes let's exchange cell numbers so we can meet somewhere. This will be my first "official" race (I did a Memorial Day 5K but I wasn't registered. It's a long story.) and I'll be wearing my WISH shirt for the first time. Just to try it out, then it goes back in the drawer until January. Well, after I wash it of course.

Yep, I work in Norwalk :goodvibes I will send my information to you through PM now so I don't forget.

Congrats on sending in the registration! Southport is beautiful, hopefully we get a good day :goodvibes

Just a quick visit tonight.

Judy - Please don't get discouraged. Sometimes it just takes time, especially getting into a new training routine. And remember, just because you may not be losing pounds, you may be losing inches. people have commented on how much weight I've lost. I look at them like they're  The scale says I only lost 4 pounds (and the next day it sometimes says I've gained them back - :confused3 ). But I think I've toned up a little, because my clothes do seem a tad bit looser. Remeber - baby steps first. Keep working out regularly and the weight (and inches) will decrease!

Sunny - Keeping you in my prayers. You know you were the first WISH-er I ever met! :)

Krista and Dave - ahem - let's hear you both sing now "Fly Eagles Fly, on the road to victory!" :teeth:

Hi Team,

Wow - Did today ever shoot by. I went to the fitness center tonight and did 4 miles - one mile walking at a 3.9 pace, and running for 3 miles at 5.1.....I could have went longer but it's getting late and I have to get up a little earlier.

Tomorrow is the Kickoff of Teams in Training. Hopefully, I hope I can keep up with the fundraising - if not, well I still have a running group here in Milford and I have all of you for support. Although, I have to admit.....I do like the idea of Teams in Training; I'm not looking for reinbursement for anything.....I just want to do something rewarding for the soul (I hope that didn't sound corny).

Next month, I already put together a charity PartyLite show -- 20% of everything made will go to Teams in Training.

Well, I know I still have some catching up to do but I will really have to do that tomorrow.

Have a great night everyone and happy training tomorrow.

Judy - EQ says that if you are working out, you cannot put yourself down!

Just a thought to those who are new to running or even the people who have run for a long time! - This running thing is about not doing too much to soon or at one time. Sometimes we start a running program...go all out...only to burn out (or get hurt) and not reach our goals. Moderation is the key....don't do too much too soon. This is really true if you are just starting out, upping speed, upping distance, or if you are coming back from being hurt.....Moderation!
I don't know where that came from! Just something I was thinking about while running today.

My 14 mile run went well today! I still had a little heart burn, but it wasn't as bad as last week. I did it in 1:54.05...that ave out to be around an 8:12 MPM. I was a little surprised so I went back and checked the mileage...sure enough....8:12 MPM  I am real excited b/c I am not even sore tonight! :cool1:
I think I will bike easy tomorrow to xtrain.

I am a happy camper now. My race package for the DL /2 arrived today. I am walker/runner/wogger #7499.

Sunny - you made me cry.

Judy - hang in there. Others have better advise than I, however I wish you lost of pixie dust. You are an athlete - you are exercising, you are training, pat yourself on the back for what you have done.

A further note on food....my massage therapist referred me to a nutrition counsellor. I have an appointment next week. My MT says that my weight problems need more than healthy eating. Like alot of North America, I eat relatively healthy, some of the time. The other some of the time I eat not so relatively healthy. Also like a lot of North America I "medicate" with food....

If I have a bad day at work, an argument with hubby, get some bad news, have a bad workout etc etc, I turn to food and eat to feel better.

But if I have a good day at work, get some good news, have an awesome workout etc etc, then I turn to food to reward myself.

When I am eating healthy and exercising regulary, I tend to lose weight almost easily. I have for about 3 years been exercising regurlary. I have reduced my portions, but now I finally need to work on what I eat and when i eat. I eat alot at night - late at night which doesn't help.

I have seen a nutritionist in the past to help with digestive problems, but she was only looking at what made me physically sick. Hopefully the nutrition counseller will help to work on the why I eat.

Rachel- I have always used food as comfort/reward too. Just think, if I would stop doing that , new skinny clothes could be my reward instead.

I am officially on core as of today. I just went to the WW website & read thru the Core message board to get some ideas & I think I can do this. I'll let you know how it goes at the scales next week.

I found a really good Core recipe (I have a really hard time finding Core recipes). I will find it online and PM you.

Sunny - it's ok to be a mush ball!!!! I realized that i had become a mush ball a few yrs ago. i don't know why i became one, but i'm for sure a crier!!!!!!!! :rolleyes1

Judy - I am so sorry that you are feeling this way. The worst part is that when you say such mean and negative things about yourself you start to believe them. You ARE an athlete! You ARE a runner! Don't let anyone (even yourself) tell you otherwise.

Well, I got in my 8 mile LR this morning. I started at 6:30 thinking that there would be more runners on the trail. Usually, when I start my run later they are coming in as I am heading out. Well..... not today. Not another runner in sight the entire 8 miles. Where'd they all go?! Doesn't matter I still had a GREAT run. 8 miles in 1hr 20min even. I felt great afterwards too. Now I get to look forward to next weeks LR of 9 miles!! I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and great runs/wogs/walks!!

Hey Melissa and Bill did my lr today 22 miles and some change. I took a power gel around 13 seemed to give me a nice boost. Felt real good till around 18 hit a little wall and came back around 20. I know i can make the distance now just a matter of the time. Anyone experience running much faster times in rqaces then at home training. Thanks for all your advice and help Rich.

Hello WISH Walking/Running Club! I got started here a couple years ago in training for the WDW 2005 Half, and now I'm back. I've been easing myself back into WISH, and have now set the goal of finishing a marathon by the time I'm 26, and doing a few halves per year. I did an 8 mile and a half marathon this year (April and May, respectively), and am considering trying my luck in a half in a few weeks -- just for the fun of it. So, if it's okay with you, I'd like to be a part of the Club? Please? I've missed it around these parts, and I know I've tried to come back before, but now -- now I know I can really do it! And with winter lurking around the corner, and back to school already here, the support here is unbeatable!

If you need the info for the list, my name is Ashley and I'm from MN!

Thanks all! I can't wait to start checking in!

(write it out..."I will never say "only did/got/... again.!

Sunny, That is a fantastic person you were able to meet, and that he touched you so in order that we might all benefit is truly a blessing to us. I know he is smiling down now!

Judy the ATHLETE! come back to us! You know you are. You do! No hiding from it at all. Just go after what you must and get on. We all have days...you know.

Rachel, I WISH I would take the opportunity you are of getting on the educated path to better nutrition. We were jsut talkig of that this a.m. with my weekend group. I have no real excuse for that either. I'm proud of you for getting it figured.

Christa, great job.

Sorry, I've not caught up further with everyone.

I was up at 5:15 this a.m. and on the trail with my Saturday group at 6:15! I had a fantastic hot, humid, sweaty time doing 9 miles in 2:09 for a 14:25 pace. Pretty good for me! I hooked up with someone and went faster than I had planned. It was all good and I did Great!

Had my cuppa coffees, scrambled egg and wheat toast. Going to read more now then give dogs a bath b4 I tak mine.

Need to say: Welcome Chris!
So glad you have found us!

I've read back another page and feel the urge:

Hey everyone-

Wow it looks like everyone is really getting in gear and getting off to a great start with their training! I love how diversified this group is! I think it is fantastic that we have people running 22 and people that run 1 mile all able to proudly boast of their accomplishments.

Here in Atlanta, TNT had a big all sport event this morning. It was amazing to see all those people walking/running/biking/hiking all over downtown Atlanta. Both the summer and winter groups were there so some people were running 22 and some were walking 2. It was amazing.

My group managed to get lost. We wee supposed to turn around and instead ran on only to realize a mile or two later that we weren't getting back to the start like we should have been. So I ran almost 6 miles instead of 5, but I felt really strong and it was a good run.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

I know its been posted in the past, but I didn't pay attention. What are the checkpoints and times for the sweepers for the full and half? Is there a link somewhere for that info?

Thanks
Sunny
