Wk of Aug 20--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

Hi, everyone! WISH I could say I am well into marathon training mode, but am hoping to just keep up with the last several weeks of training for the DL 1/2. I am hoping to return from the week in California well-revved to jump right into the marathon training schedule. Rhonda will be returning from her cruise at the same time and we will get back into virtual/cyber training together. :teeth:

Lynne -- You continue to impress the he--double hockey sticks out of me! I'm sorry you weren't thrilled with your performance, but we all think you are absolutely amazing! :lovestruc

Did 30 minutes on the cross-trainer (elliptical) last night and then bailed at 8:30 to go home and get dinner. I really think I need to totally re-formulate my evenings. I should plan to eat before I leave work and then go to the gym and then NOT eat again when I get home. I have been going from work to the gym and leaving there so hungry and eating wayyy too much and too late at night. Not good.

Congratulations to everyone who got their marathon training underway, and to everyone training to train for the 1/2! :thumbsup2 Isn't this fun!

MelR congratulations on finishing your race...I love the pictures and the fact that your family supported you! Way to go :thumbsup2

:earboy2: Good morning all.

I did my intervals this morning. I feel really good about doing it. I think I'm going to give up my day job and go pro. :lmao: Ohh, don't I wish! I told Charlie this morning that I am starting to think about what races I want to do after WDW. I told him maybe the NYC Half. He looked at me as if I lost my mind. I think he figured this racing thing was a one-time deal. Ha! Little does he know....

Jodi - Aren't you doing the Bigelow Challenge? We are too! Yay! :thumbsup2 Thanks for your kind words about my five miler.

Melissa - OMG! You're so funny! :rotfl2: YAY for the Brunettes! Maybe that's one event I could do next year! I guess I'd better learn how to swim.

Lynn - We still love you. ::yes:: :flower3:

Pungodingy - Don't let Lynn's report scare you. There are always good days and bad days. But you know what? Even if she thinks she had a stonker, she did it, didn't she? WE are proud of her anyway! :teeth:

Kristi - Thank you. I have a ways to go but five miles is a lot considering where I started. Ummm, and yeah, the Garmin has a light. ;) See, the thing to do it take it to bed with you and play with all the buttons and beeps until you drive everyone nuts. :lmao:

Escape - You're story is just like mine! Yay! Come on, we'll do this together.

Sunny - Your "taking it easy" stage is more then my "ramp it up" stage. :worship:

Lily - How nice that you and DH train together like that. :goodvibes Charlie is MUCH faster then I am, and he jogs slowly beside me. Which is very nice of him but the whole time I feel guilty for holding him back. I'll suggest we try your method.

Bekah - Pictures! We need pictures of the new ride! :thumbsup2 Congratulations!

Kevin - YAY for Day 1! :cheer2:

Dave - YAY for your Day 1 too, but we can't have you cutting down on your DIS time. I'm sorry but we NEED you here! :teeth:

Krista - YAY for your Day 1 too! You guys are making me excited for my Day 1.

Cam - Yes this IS fun! :yay: I feel the excitement building already. There will be no living with me pretty soon. How annoying can I possibly get??? Already I am harassing Charlie about my NEXT event and writing out my packing list and figuring out what to put on my carry-on and planning on buying different GUs so I can try them all and telling him he has GOT to rearrange our Christmas schedule because I will be TAPERING! If he doesn't leave me thru this, he never will.   :teeth:

Judy -- You HAVE to do the Minnie 15K next May!!!!! We had such a great time!

Does anyone know when Sara will be home from her cruise? Can't wait for a full report on that.Colleen
Okay, I guess I have to delurk now :rotfl2: I have been home for a week, but I had to have some day surgery last week and have been doped up on Vicodin, so I didn't want to post incoherently :confused3 Nothing major; lets just say that DH was never going to step up to the plate to finalize things :rolleyes1 , so I had to take matters into my own hands. I am still recovering but have swore off the heavy drugs today so I'm feeling much better.

The vacation was wonderful and the girls were so excited. It was really nice to get away and recharge before school starts.

I have to catch up here before I am able to post anymore. I know someone's had a birthday and the official MFM training has begun this week. Others are sending babies off to kindergarten and I saw something about Colleen possibly missing Goofy?! I promise to catch up and post before the weekend.

I did speedwork this morning and went to my pilates class. Due to surgery, I am not supposed to lift weights for 3 weeks. We'll see how that goes...

Happy training to all.

Yikes! Busy days! I WILL catch up soon!

Sunny - Thinking of you today!

solo - WTG on gettign out there after such a busy day!!

escape - COngrats on having such a great trainer!

Lynne - SO sorry about the stonker. SOme days you just have to chalk off as needing them to make the others look good! ;)

Please don't say Minnie! Oh, how I want to go!

Thank you again for all the birthday wishes. I had a wonderful, although long day. I took a rian check on dinner until Saturday, but dh staye dup past his bedtime to give me a cheescake brownie thing, with candles and one of my gifts. Still have 1 more to go and it's big. I have no clue! Let's see how long I can extend this b-day....celebration at parents about a week adn a half ago, lunch with most of co-workers Thursday, as some wer off yesterday. Lunch with fave co-workers yesterday, dinner Saturday and possibly something with th eILs. Yeah, I can really milk it. ;) :p

OK, so no run yesterday. On to Curves for XT today. Very hard to switch days on a 3 run week and not have 3 runs in a row.

Happy training everyone!

Good luck everyone starting their marathon training! Sounds like you are all off to a great start, and your training inspires me to keep up my pre-training!

Escape and Pungo, this is such a great inspiring group! Improvement overall is what's important. Getting started is a huge step and you have both accomplished that!!

I haven't posted since my 5 mile run (TM) on Saturday, even though I said I would lurk less! Sunday was an off day, Monday I did XT (1 1/2 hours of tennis) and today I did 1 hour of weight training with a friend who is a trainer. I felt so good about the weight training, that I came home and decided to get in a run outside. Well, I started at 10AM which was a big mistake. The heat and humidity just killed me and I could only get two miles in, with as much walking as running, I'm afraid. My time was okay, not great (2 miles in 26 minutes), but I was so dissappointed in how hard it was! The treadmill is so much easier, especially this time of year. I am determined to get in a least a couple of runs outside per week though. My distance may suffer, but my legs will get used to the demands of running on pavement. So, I'm a little disappointed and frustrated right now, but I am determined to keep this up. I am so glad I will be running the DW half in JANUARY!!

:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: Jodi-- Congratulations on makeing WW LT! Our anniversaries are only 5 days apart, but I've got some work to do to get back down to mine (and then surpass it).

Sunny

Thanks Sunny! :goodvibes

I'm so glad that you are back posting regularly :cheer2: I'm glad you haven't given up on Marathon weekend.....Are you still attempting Goofy, I can't remember if you said (it's still in your signature).....Please remember though to take care of yourself.

My friend and I will be doing the Goofy and taking a bit slow if you'd like to meet up with us. We have a goal of 12 - 13 min/mil. Plus times when we will slow down for time with the characters.

I'm looking forward to hopefully meeting a lot of the WISH team :woohoo: :woohoo:

jodi - SO sorry. I missed that you made lifetime. IIRC, you were worried tha tyou would not. Way to go!!!!!!! :cool1:

I did my 30 min of xt today at Ctruves. Felt good to work my non-leg muscles for a change. ;)

Today was my first day training for the full. I did 40 min of w3/r1 which included a 4 min wu and cd. I covered 2.65 miles for a pace of 15:05. Need to get a little faster before October. The race I am doing then has a 15 mpm requirement.

Sunny - glad to see you posting. Hope your back continues to feel better and that you have the procedure to ease the pain. I ended up having 2 cervical nerve blocks to get rid of headaches caused by the arthritis in my neck. I was supposed to have 3 but the second one did not seem to do anything. The first one was amazing. I hope you have a similar experience.

Tomorrow I am going to do a straight walk. I have to be in Rochester for work on Thursday and then I get to pick Erin up from my mom in Geneseo. She is coming home for the weekend. Haven't seen her since May. She will fininsh her college program commitment on Jan 5 just in time for the races.

Everyone is doing great with their training. Keep up the good work.

Boy, gone for two days and already up to 90 posts. I'll apologize now for not getting everyone and hopefully I will do better but by history probably isn't too good. :rolleyes1

Lynne -- Sorry about your half ironman, but it is still much more than I could do. Lynnda was also impressed with it.

Sunny -- Hope you feel better after your walk. I hate it when my body says one thing and I say another.

Holly -- Good luck on getting the bike. I am still trying to get one but for some reason all these Disney trips keep getting in the way.

Krista -- I may have to question your math concerning the billion more days. After the past few days, I think I can only go for a million or so.

Rich -- Welcome. I use Power Gel on my long runs and will generally take some every 4 miles or so. As the distances get longer I may take it a little more often just to make sure I don't get too out of whack.

Judy -- Good job in getting out this morning. I totally understand the wanting to do more races. I just need to figure out how to pay for everything.

Sara -- Welcome back, hope you had a good trip. May your recovery go well.

After recovering from this weekend, I finally got out this evening. I went 5 miles with a pace of about 11:10. It was a little cooler tonight due to some afternoon shower so that helped a little. My legs didn't feel too bad afterwards so hopefully everything is recovering nicely.

I am on call for jury duty this week. After sitting most of the day and getting odd questions on Monday, I hope the rest of the week will be a little quiter. I have yet to figure out what th bumper stickers or lack thereof on my car have to do with me coming up with a decision.

I saw Dave and Sunny's PSA so I am checking in. I haven't been able to make the boards the last two weeks at all. So I am just catching up now.

I am way behind in training for DL half. The gallbladder surgery definately through me for a loop. The surgery went very well, and I felt so much better afterwards. However one of the incisions through the muscle in the upper abdomen is taking longer to heal than expected. (the surface incisions are fine). When I run, the movement from my arms tugs at the muscle. So still no running. My longest walk has been 8 1/2 miles....which took me just under 2 1/2 hours. So I will finish!

I am back at work at my part time job (Ikea) and I have had a couple of "runner" shifts. So when a customer gets to the cash lanes and finds they have forgotten something, or they have the display item etc etc, the cashier radios me and I run to get the item. Ever spent 5 hours running round Ikea? I think it counts as cross training.

We went to a function at the local airport last weekend, and I won a four week bootcamp in the silent auction. It starts right after the DL half. An hour a day - 5 days a week for a month! That should get me fit, and then I will start training for the 2008 WDW marathon.

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

I went to the gym again this morning, and was on the elliptical by 6:00am. I did 40 min on the elliptical including a 5 min warm up and 5 min cool down. I modified my MfM training plan for today because I have my cross country race tomorrow. So I did another cross-training day today, and I'll run tomorrow.

Hi Kathy - great job getting going on your training. Your post triggered a thought in my mind. I'm doing a race in Geneseo on Sunday, September 3rd. There is a half marathon and a 5K. I'm going to do the 5K. It's sponsored by the group that runs the Fleet Feet here in Rochester where I've done my running group. After I completed my "AP Learn to Run" program, they started a "Distance Training Program" with the goal of running the Oak Tree Half Marathon in Geneseo on Sept. 3rd. I wasn't able to do that program because of my shins, but I thought I would run the 5K and catch up and cheer on some of the friends I met in my running group that will be doing the half marathon. The race description says it's mostly on packed dirt roads. I attached a link if you are interested.

Have fun here in Rochester tomorrow. Did you ever get my message about that good dessert place?

Hi Everyone-

The run was not good. My right knee felt funny (not pain just funny) the entire run. I had planned on running 4 miles but I knocked it down to 3 because of the knee. Can't get injured now. I ran on the treadmill and I even dropped the speed down to a 10 minute mile to baby myself. Usually I run much faster on the treadmill but I just wasn't up to it yesterday.

I did however keep my heart rate at the top of zone 3 and slighty into zone 4 so it wasn't a complete bust of run.

I am wondering if I am being paranoid about all the slight aches and pains I have when I run now. I seem to have something bother me every time I run lately. Its scaring me because the mileage is just now starting to climb. Anyone else experience this?

Crudemom - where are you on mileage now? I noticed last yr. that when i got into the long runs (i'm thinking like 17 and over) I had pains that showed up and stayed. Last yr. it was my right knee on the inside where the tendon inserts. Those went away after goofy, but then i did several marathons and my left booty started hurting. it hurts w/ runs of 10 miles or more. I think sometimes we do just have normal aches and pains w/ lots and lots of running! Good luck w/ your training!

Sara-- I hope you are recoverying and feeling better. I sent email to a colleague at work all doped up on perc and later read it   Oh my!

Kathy-- good to see you! Thanks for the encouragement.

Rachel-- Good to see you, too! I'm glad we didn't waste our advertisements for nothing :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Keep posting :goodvibes

You DL Halfers must be getting excited by now! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

My consultation left me very depressed yestereday. The dr came in knowing nothing of why I was there. There was a language barrier and we spent the first few minutes of me thinking she was asking if I've had a blood transfusion, but she thought I had already had the spinal fusion. She told me the shots probably won't work for me based on how my pain varies through the day. She said my pain was probably due to posture and body movement problems ontop of my condition. She asked why I haven't had PT. I was ready to scream. She's the 5th ns I've seen in the dept and the first 4 said nothing of PT for stenosis. :furious: :furious: :furious:

She went ahead and scheduled the shot and ordered PT but said it probably wouldn't be for about 4 weeks and teh shot would be wasted by then. She kept saying, "I just don't want you to have your hopes up".

I was so upset. I went to the Y and worked out for 2 1/2 hours, but only did things I'm allowed to do.

BUT GOOD NEWS!!!! They called this morning and scheduled all 3 of my PTs for the week of my shot. I will have my last PT the day before the shot. So, if the PT does help, the shot may have a chance. This will all take place my first week back to work (1st wk of Sept).

It's about time I learned how to move my body correctly.

Sunny

Oh, Sunny! Hang in there! I know how frustrating it is to have doctor number such & such mention something the previous ones haven't. :grouphug:

Quick drive-by post! :moped: Our internet is down at home & I am actually trying to get some personal stuff done here at work (rather than my usual reaching the end of the internet activities :teeth: )

I found my mp3 player! Made doing my 5 miles last night more bearable.

13:17
13:57
13:53
13:19
13:19
1:07:48

I think I sped up during the end since it was geting too dark to read the Garmin again. And do you think I remembered how to turn on the light? Overall, I did ok. I think it was a bit a harder than I expected since I hadn't done anything for the week after my 7 miler.

Chad is taking Zack up to the lake overnight - maybe I can get some things done around the house. Also, if weigh in goes ok at weight watchers tonight, I get lifetime! I am not happy with my weight still - but I'll be thrilled not to pay to go to meetings anymore!

Have a good day everyone!

Aaaaarggggh, so frustrating Sunny!!! Well, at least you got scheduled for the PT, hopefully that will be good, and maybe it will increase the chances of the shot having an effect. Good for you for getting a workout in to blow off steam. I hope you're feeling OK from it. Hang in there!!! :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:
