Wk of Aug 17 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Weather report from Palm Harbor (about an hour north of where Angie is)

We had one rain band come through around dinner, it is clear now, but I just did my run for today outside and saw some clouds moving back in. Nothing too exciting yet. has anyone seen some of the forecast models that have it going into the atlantic and then back across westward??:confused3 :confused3

Anyhow, Fay is tracking due north now, so those of us on the west coast should be on the "good" side of the storm.

8Pm here now how are you guys all doing in FL????

I've been watching the radar, they're getting hit with heavy rains. Possibly their internet or electricity have gone down with the winds. I'm just guessing.

Oh, I'm here, I'm here. Just watching the Olympic Zone and now the Olympic coverage. Still getting alot of rain right now winds picking up a bit here in Broward County.

ooooo, just watched the Swiss Lady hit the first hurdle and fell, ugh!!

Hi guys, it appears that this is the thread where everyone is at today.

I'm also vegging now and watching the games. I did 10 miles and then 2 hours pushing the mower so I can be lazy now.

When I have a day like today with 4.5 hours of exercise I eat the rest of the day. That and drink a ton of water. Since that dehydration adventure I've keep a water bottle close.

We don't wear shoes in the house either, certainly not a red neck thang since people in this part of the country put on shoes as soon as they get out of bed. But we are transplants here and the Japanese custom of no shoes in the house is one we adhere to.

Hope the storms are just rain Fla buddies.

OK, I see what happens. I'm not here for a few days and BANG! Life goes on without me. I could end up keeling over in my three bean salad, with no one noticing me missing until the neighbors notice an odor or the mail filling up and overflowing from the mailbox. Thanks a lot, that brings me down a few rungs on the ladder. :rolleyes1

Friday was my rest day. Saturday and Sunday I spent volunteering at a summer camp for Special Olympics Delaware. I was a Camp Counselor (my second summer!) for 8 campers who mainly ranged in age from about 15 to 18. I had two genuinely nice Junior Counselors helping me out too. We had a great weekend. The campers left today after lunch. Unfortunately I had to leave last night after their dance at lights out. I didn't make it home and into bed until 1 AM. Ugh.

Today I was supposed to do XT. Since I missed mid-distance and long runs this weekend, I decided to run today. I managed 5 in the time I had allotted for it..... here are the results.

Miles: 5.04
Time: 45:30
Pace: 9:01

Splits:
9:47
9:00
8:52
8:53
8:36

Have a great night. Keep on training!

Just popping in to report DH and I just got back from a 13 mile bike ride! :faint: That is the longest distance yet traveled on our bikes. It would have been a bit shorter, but we were chased by dogs and decided to take a different route home that was a little out of the way. That meant also coming home in the dark. Didn't care for that too much, but we did have those bright flashing LED lights and people just about stopped until they could figure out what was heading their way! :thumbsup2 I actually felt safer than during the daytime. Though I do not plan to make riding at a habit!

Have a great night all and you guys down in FL stay safe!!!

Stacie

Checking in.

Glad that Fay doesn't seem to be as bad at this point on you guys. Stay safe!

I had an off day and then a sick day from running over the weekend. I was feeling better today so I managed to get in 3.25 miles in 27 minutes (8:30 ish) pace.

Hey there FL people how are you all today.

I heard Fay hit as a TS just around Fort Myers, haven't pulled up my tracking website. Hope you are all OK!!!!!! Please all be safe

Just a Fay Update...

I am in Palm Harbor on the west coast and we're dry here! We'll be getting some of the bands this afternoon, but it won't be any worse than our usual thunderstorms! Luckily, fay never strengthened to a hurricane. Unfortunately it has really slowed down, so it may be quite rainy in some places for awhile.

Checking in here from Southeast Florida. Woke up to lots of rain and wind. Not too bad. That is pretty much all we have had. There was a break last night for about 2 hours and then around 11pm the winds and rain kicked back up. We are under a Tornado Warning and Flood Watch. Here is a photo I snapped this morning when I went to let my dog out to show the weather. She was very good and just quickly went straight to the grass to tinkle and right back inside!!

TSFay.jpg

Wind blowing out palm trees around.
Supposed to pass over Florida from where it came on shore just South of Naples go diagonally Northeast and out the the Atlantic and then curve back in the hit somewhere in Southeast Georgia. That might be good for them, they are having draught conditions there.

Waiting for a break at some point to get out and do my 4 miles that are on schedule for today. Might be later in the day or early evening.

****Disneyworld is to open today at 8am for the 4 main parks to allow guests to enjoy the parks before weather gets any worse.******

Staying Safe Tracy

GOOD MORNING

My response would be the same as the last two. In fact we haven't even had rain since yesterday around 5, it is getting a little windy but as aykab said, not expecting anything worse than the usual thunderstorms.

If I had been around I would have noticed your super speedy numbers were not being put up but I have not been around in a week either:rolleyes1 Once again awesome job on the run

Speaking of super speedy, ran with DH last night ended up with a 9.5 pace for 4. Would be excited except knee and hamstring hurting a little today. Good news is rest of my body wanted to go faster and longer. Bad news is leg is not cooperating with rest of body ;) It's ok at least I can run at all

Stacy Awesome job on the bike ride!!!

Going to gym tonight for step and pump. Will check in later

Fay Update here...

Right now just loads and loads of rain. It's pretty much light rain nonstop with occasional rain squalls. Last night things really picked up about 1:00am... and was woken up three times with the rain pounding on the house... but no wind damage and haven't lost power at all.

We've had about 5 inches of rain with the storm so far and looks like maybe another three inches or so...

Speaking of which.... did you all see the video of the NITWIT kiteboarder get carried off of Fort Lauderdale beach yesterday?!?!? I know it's a "small" storm, but SHEESH dude!!

ETA: Here's the link... http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/weather/2008/08/19/florida.kite.boarder.wfor

Guess we'll be back to running tomorrow....
Be safe all!
Kevin :earsboy:

Glad you are all safe. Sorry had my info wrong it was near Naples, not Fort Myers....maybe they are close together I am not sure but just glad it wasn't packing the punch they where expecting.

Glad to hear our FL contingent is doing well in spite of Fay. Now, can ya'll hold off anymore storms for a couple weeks--we'll be down there in a week!

Got a nice speed workout today
0.5mile warm-up
6 X 0.25 at 8mpm alternating with 2 min walk breaks
0.5 mile cool down

Think I got 3.5 miles in around 35 minutes

Kevin - :scared1: Whay do poeple think????

OK, I did 6 miles on teh bike to/from teh ice cream shopp yesterday. Brownie batter, yum!

Too bad bike shopping doesn't count as XT. We've speant at least 3 hours in the bike shop and probably have another hour to go Thursday.

Wanna' see teh bike I'm getting? :cheer2:

Glad to read Tropical Storm Fay didn't do much to Team WISH.

Carrie, nice bike, I'm jealous!

Nice bike Carrie.

Are you doing more Triathalons?

We're looking at one fro the weekend of Sept 6. Another sprint, very similar to teh first one. Hoping the new bikes will make a big difference. :)

Wow that is awesome!!!! Good for you. I would love to do one but that isn't in the immediate future thats' for sure.

GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!!!

Carrie: Looks like a nice bike, good luck.

All you Florida people stay safe. I lived down there in 2004 for that lovely hurricane season so I do remember what it is like checking the storm path every 5 minutes. The question is though: if you go do an LR with the wind at your back can you count it as a new PR or is that cheating?

I had a nice weekend of camping but between the tent and then a triple header of softball on Sunday my legs are a bit sore. It was like 3 hours of speed work. I took yesterday off to do some yard work and let the legs feel better. Tonight it is the gym then the street.

I'm glad that all the Floridians seem to be holding up OK. Stay safe and dry!

Glad to hear our FL contingent is doing well in spite of Fay. Now, can ya'll hold off anymore storms for a couple weeks--we'll be down there in a week!

Stephanie - Where are you staying? We're flying down to WDW next Tuesday (just me and the kids for this trip), and I can hardly wait! It's great to be getting one more trip in before school starts.

I fit in 45 minutes/3.8 miles today. It was hot, but not too humid and I felt pretty good. Lately I have been struggling more on my shorter runs than my LRs - what's up with that? Anyway, it was nice to do a shorter one that didn't make me feel like giving up halfway through!
