Wk Of Aug 12 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Just a quick post - I'm at work

Colleen I'm still trying to decide between the full and the 1/2. We run for the AT Children's Project and I have until October to sign up for either with them. We were all set to do full, bobby and I , but he had back surgery and can't and I have been struggling with back issues and I am afraid to committ to a full and not be able to do it. Plus I'm scared to do it by myself. I'm afraid I will come to hate the training.

anyway, don't know what to do :confused3

No running for me tonight, 3 days in a row with 14 miles in 3 days is plenty on my back for now. DH is on duty tonight, so me and the kiddies are going out to eat!!!

Angie, oh, that is great you still have to option to run either race. Good luck with your decision and take care of yourself.

Hey all... just a quick post like always. No training to report from me, except packing for Disney... we leave on Saturday. Oh Wait, we are going to Ohio!!! Anyhoo, MY FOOT FEELS GREAT. I woke up this morning with no pain, and yesterday it barely hurt also. DH said I must have popped something (not likely, but no PF pain is a bonus in my book). So with 2 weeks off I think it will do my foot a world of good. Oh, but walking Disney may not!!! :lmao:

Just a word of warning... my PF hadn't bothered me at all, but after a week at Disney I was totally miserable. Wear shoes with as much support as you can - orthotics, whatever! I kept trying to wear Crocs in the afternoons and evenings, and I think that wasn't the best idea... PLEASE be careful!

Judy - Hooray that you're only a week away from training again!

Renee - Totally agree with you on the weather. I gave up the outside run last night in favor of the TM this morning inside. Just looked at the forecast for the rest of the week - think it may be another all-TM week!

Cam - I made it 45 consecutive days of crunches, then completely forgot them Saturday night. By the time I was snuggled into bed, decided it wasn't worth getting back up just to keep the streak going!

Ran 5 miles on the TM this morning. I actually ran a sub-10:00 mile for the first time! Okay, it was a 9:54, but it was still under 10:00. Did the 5 in 57:00.

Think I'm going to sneak off to Fleet Feet. Stick with the same shoes vs. try something new?

Jackie

Yaaa I finally have training to report, just did 5K in 45min, a little slower pace then we usually walk but since we haven't really done much in the last week I will take it.

Off to do my crunches and pushups!!!!!

HAve a great night everyone.

Kim

Well.. just stopping by to report todays training. I got in 4 miles. My pace was about 8:58 mpm, but my legs (especially my shins) were a little sore today and I wanted to take it slower. Tomorrow I am doing 3 miles at a slow easy pace, to try and rest them for my 9 miles on Friday!!

I'm a day late and a dollar short. Good thing Karla is taking care of the $16 million dollar membership fee. Be sure to add mine to hers, I think she won't notice.

I'm one of the friends walking the 1/2 with Karla and her daughter. I find myself thinking about the big day while I'm out walking. I wonder what it will be like that fine Saturday. Is there a big group of Saturday participants that go back to cheer for the Sunday full racers?

My walking assignments for this week are as follows: Monday 2.5, Thursday 2.5, Saturday 3, Sunday 2 - plus a cross training/weights video Today. :woohoo:

Have a great night!!

Welcome Rachael, glad you joined us.

Did 5 miles on TM yesterday, then 3 miles today. I tried doing speedwork instead of just steady drudgery (mostly because my iPod was about to die). I did the last mile in an average of 8.45 mi/min. I was pretty pleased, although have to keep in mind it was on the TM, with a fan, no elevation, a cup holder, etc.;)

Funny thing happened though. There's a row of TMs- I'm on one end and a woman is walking on the other. I'm kind of oblivious listening to my iPod when suddenly I see a blur- she's fallen off the back! So I'm trying to stop my iPod, stop the TM, etc. and help her (but without flying off the back myself!) By the time I get everything under control, I see she is smiling sheepishly and isn't hurt. She gets back on. Then I see that she is wearing mule keds type shoes with no backs and no socks! Then she took off both her shoes and started walking barefoot. It was so odd. I was happy for the distraction though and glad she wasn't hurt.

Loved reading trip reports from CDC. It sounds like the race had issues, but how cool that everyone seems to agree that WISHers made it worthwhile! The medal was pretty sweet too.:thumbsup2

Good morning,

I have nothing to report, been resting since the cdc. In just a few short minutes dh and I will wake our boys and tell them we are on the way to WDW!:thumbsup2 Oooh I can't wait to see there faces. I will be offline until Monday when we are back. I assume lots of walking between now and then.

Judy, congrats on the progress. I am sure it was frustrating not being able to train.

Cam, my dh picked up your model camera yesterday. It will get alot of use in the next few days. I played with it last night. I think I am going to like it!

Anne, I hope your doing okay. I know it was a rough walk with your foot.

Jen, glad you made it pain free after the race. Have fun safe trip.

Have a great week!
Maggie

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

OK, I've been out of it lately. I just got back last night from a trip to Delaware to visit my parents. The whole family was packed in the van for the drive. We left after my 14 mile run on Saturday, and I haven't really run since. I'm going to try to get out today to get back in the swing of it. I want to go back and read the thread though and see how the CDC went. I'll be back.

Good Morning Team: :surfweb:

Sunny- Hope you're doing well out there. WISHing you luck and good WISHes.

Welcome Karla- Always great to have new teammates. Welcome to the team. Keep us posted on your training.

nepatsfan73- Great job on your walk. WTG!!!

Ali- Welcome to the TEAM!!! I saw your thread on the budget board about the Disney Cool Wraps and that you made as a fundraiser for Team in Training. I'm glad you found your way over here. I think we might need a WISH Cool Wrap for the team. Great job on your 4 miler!

Steve- Thanks for posting from Chicago. Glad you had a good time over the weekend for the CDC. This is unrelated to the CDC, but I read an article on MarathonGuide that Pittsburgh is trying to start up their marathon again. Guess what date they're looking at? Yup, May 4, 2008 - Same as the Flying Pig. I might have a conflict.

Sara- I'm glad to hear you took it easy this weekend. Rest up that groin injury. I'm hoping to run with you and Colleen at the MCM in DC. A pain free 4:30 goal sounds like a good one to me.

Mel- Thanks for posting the picture with John Bingham. Man, I'm jealous. Nice race report. Sounds like you had a lot of fun with Jen. You got a dog? Wow, that sounds like fun.

Krista- Thanks for the race report. Sounds like you had a fun weekend in Chicago with the WISH team. The architectual boat tour sounds like a lot of fun. Too bad the race wasn't better for you though. Glad you had a good run with Steve. So it was better running with him this time than the 5K? So what made you sick? Did you have a flu bug or something? Thanks for posting pictures of the medals. They are nice.

Hi Judy- We'll have to find some other race to do together so we can meet.

Colleen- Great job on your 16 miles this past weekend, and congrats for entering the Disney Full marathon. WISH I could run with you again, but I'm looking forward to running with you and Sara at the MCM.

Meghan- Congrats on the CDC!

Stephanie- I'm sorry to hear you're getting into a rut in your training. I bet being a team captain for the Race for the Cure will get you out of your slump.

Jackie- Congrats on deciding to do the Raleigh full marathon!!! You know I've been wearing my Crocs alot lately when I was at Delaware, and I think they are not giving me enough support either.

Cam- Sounds like you had a great time at the CDC. Since I can't make Disney this year, I need to make sure I make it to another WISH race sometime.

Christa- Great to see you back. Nice outfit for the MS ride.

Kristi- Hello, I signed up to volunteer at the Disney marathon too, but alas, I need to cancel now.

Jen- I need to make my way over to the other thread to read the race reports. Sounds like you had a good time with Mel though. Sorry, I won't be with you guys at Disney this year. Have fun on your trip to OHIO!!! ;)

Carrie- I'm glad the heat didn't get to you too much at the CDC. I'm glad your new job is going well too.

Howard- Thanks for the race report. Wow, I'm impressed with your pace. WTG!!!

Rachael- Welcome to the team!

WWDave- Greetings!

OK, I skimmed through the thread, and think I'm caught up now.

Hey Team!!!!!!

Got a 4K on tap for tonight!!!!

Today is my 20th wedding anniversary   so out to dinner but I will get my walk in!! I have missed enough training.

At lunch today the Stanley Cup will be going through the middle of the town that I work in. Brad May who plays for the Ducks is from Stouffville so he is bringing the cup to town today and the parade will go right by my office at 1PM which is my lunch time, so I will bring my lawn chair, grab lunch at the Tim Hortons across the street and watch the cup go by....OK it doesn't sound that exciting but for a hockey freak like me this is a biggie....

Have a great day all.

Kim

Good Morning Team

I just found out that they just released passholder rates for hotels up through October or November. I'm still trying to get hotel for RFTT, but our AP's just expired. Normally whatever deals they release to AP holders not too long after they release to FL residents. If anyone is an AP and knows what rates they are offering, could you please let me know.

Thanks

angie

Good morning, team!!!!! Happy Hump Day! (That's for you, Stephanie ;) ) I got in 3 miles last night, it was a pretty good run, I waited until 8:45 to go out, a little cooler, but still muggy. I have 7 tonight which I may be forced to run on the treadmill at Gold's. I hate running at Gold's--the treadmills are great there, but it is so HOT in there. I don't notice it when I bike or do the elliptical, but running is a different story. When I leave there after a run my hair is soaking wet (I have very thick hair, it takes a lot to get it all wet) and I have sweat running off my elbows. It's gross. But we're supposed to be having thunderstorms and temps in the mid 90's today, so I'm stuck with sweating at Gold's.

Dave--Um, excuse me, where do your loyalties lie? I expect to see you in Cincinnati on May 3. Great job on your 14 miler. How sore were your legs after the run and then sitting in a car for hours? I am NOT looking forward to the drive from Columbus to Cincinnati after the marathon in October. And why was I sick Sunday morning? It could have been the deep dish pepperoni pizza and carrot cake from room service at 11:30 Saturday night. :rolleyes1

Carrie--Have a good day at work today! I'm so happy you have found the perfect job. (Knock on wood!)

Rachel--Welcome!!! I'll e-mail you our bank routing number for your 16 million dollar check. ;)

Kim--Happy Anniversary!!!!!! Congrats on 20 years!

Maggie--How exciting that you are leaving for WDW today! Have a great time!!! I have the same camera that Cam has and I LOVE it. It takes great pictures.

Sara--Have you been able to run yet? Hope you are feeling better! :wizard:

Jackie--What kind of shoes did ya get?

Judy--Have a great time in Canada!!!!!

I better get off here and get to work, of course I said that yesterday and how many times did I post on the volunteer thread? Good thing my boss is on vacation this week! :)

Does anyone know if the One More Mile Running Skirt has shorts with it? The pic shows a pair next to it, however the description doesn't list shorts. Mel??? You bought one at the expo didn't you?

No training to report except for packing for Ohio! When I return I have been told I need to re-route my outdoor running patterns/paths due to the issues here. I am not to happy about that because it means I will have to drive somewhere to run. Think happy thoughts is all I can say to myself!!
