Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

Not much to report for me this week. I may be registering for a duathlon as long as I don't have to buy any fancy clip on shoes or pedals or road bike.

Tracey...lots of band geeks around here. I was in guard, DH was a drummer and DD15 played tenor the past 4 years, but this year is in guard.

Hope everyone's doing well!

First time for me to post in here as I will have my first 5k one week from today. I am looking forward to this event. If for no other reason, to help with any nerves that I may have for the races at Disney in January.

(Another Bandie here too. I started on Trumpet but ended on Tuba. I was in there for 8 years. Lots of memories.)

I played trumpet from 3rd grade through high school. It was okay in elementary, awesome in middle school, and hated it by the end of high school.

I all depended on the teacher I had. First one was good, second terrific, and last one a jerk.

Jazz band was the easy A. Marching band was the worst. I hated being out on the field all afternoon freshman year, so I bailed on that class. Jazz was more my thing. Retired from playing after graduating.

Still I played the bugle for my Boy Scout troop for many years to come.

I have to admit I was a flute player - so yep part of the band. I played from 5th grade through 10th grade. I then moved on to flag corp and then my Senior year I was on the dance team. I can't remember how to play now but wish I did. Good luck to all in the marching band!!!

As far as my training - I met my marathon training group yesterday morning for the weekly long run at 6AM - I was scheuled to do 6 miles but since I had to walk for a mile straight I decided to go another mile (well 1/2 mile) and turn around so I did 7 miles in 1 hour 30 mins - and was soaking wet by time I was done - it was pretty humid even that early in the morning. Next week I am scheduled for another 7 miles and I am actually kinda looking forward to it. The view is awesome since the route is mostly on A1A in Boca Raton on the way out its still a little too dark to see a nice view but on the way back its awesome looking at the sunrise. I always have to stop and take at least one pic with my camera phone (but I don't want to look like a dork so I dont do it too often!! LOL) I find myself being more motivated to force myself to run more and walk less when I am with my group (even though I am usually the last one)

Good luck to all this week. Stay safe in this heat and stay hydrated. Good and safe training to all.

Hey everyone! I know I haven't been on the weekly thread in awhile. So sorry! I am currently tapering for the DL half and cannot wait for it!! I did a great 8.1 mile run this morning in 1:31. I cannot believe how far I have come since this time last year!

Also, I was shocked to realize that marathon weekend in January is only 5 months from now!! How crazy!!

I will definately be on here more in Sept when I start training for the marathon. I promise! ;)

Hello and Welcome All to Week of August 10th herer in WISH disboards land.

I am sitting here with my big glass of ice water watching USA versus CHINA in Basketball at the Olympics with my feet up.
I did my 13.10 miles this morning and as previously stated by Tricia - it is just too hot to be doing something so silly as that. Feel like temp when I got home at 9:45am was 92. No wonder why I felt like 1/2 of me had melted away.!! Definately had pinky pistols and I think I shot myself a few times.
Time was not pretty, but then again I made it back home in one piece and I wasn't crawling, so yeah for me!:cool1:
NOW IT'S TIME TO TAPER!!!!....... thank the lord - hallelujah!! :worship: I just know that I am not a great distance person and was thinking about that the last 2 miles before I got home.
Love hearing the stories of those that were band geeks or guard geeks. I have some videos of my high school on youtube if anyone is interested. I guess I need to add that to my sig.

GO USA and have a good Sunday WISHers!!

Hi All,

I'm going to jump in here before this thread gets too long. Since I haven't posted here in quite a while, I'll re-introduce myself. I'm currently training for the WDW full. I'm new to running - I just started in Jan. My DH & I turned 40 this year and decided we wanted to be fit 40 yr olds, so we're running the marathon (he has run a marathon before, but I've never run a race in my life :scared1: ). I am going to run a half marathon here in Boston in October, so at least the WDW marathon won't be my first race.

My longest run to date is 7 miles, although lately I've had to take some time off due to a hamstring injury. The injury is healed and I've been easing back into the running thing, so I was very happy to do 4.6 miles today with no problems. I'm hoping to increase my miles a bit each week.

Bryan - Congrats on your upcoming first 5K! I haven't run a race yet, so I have no words of wisdom. I'm sure you'll do great! :thumbsup2

Tricia - An awesome view during a long run must be great. :cool1: I just run around my neighborhood where there is no such scenery. That's probably better for me though. If I had a nice view to admire while running, I'd probably not pay attention to where I was going and fall. There's a reason my mother didn't name me Grace. :rotfl:

Tracy - 13.10 miles in the FL heat?! All I can say is - Wow! :worship:

Have a great week everyone. I hope to try to become more of a regular on this weekly thread. :goodvibes

Hi All!

I am back.. it's only been a month or so :lmao:

I kind of "fell off the wagon" after the Peachtree. I got very involved in the job search which has been succesful. I start my new job, August 25th! And then since I had a job, I decided I needed a vacation, traded in those Marriott rewards points, those DL skymiles and went to Paris!

So now it's time to get back on track. I joined the Galloway Half Group yesterday and am back on track. Only did 3 miles yesterday, but it was fun! They ware heading towards a November race so I may sign up for one. Fall is actually harder for me. It's "Football Time in Tennessee" and those games interfere with my Saturday training group!

TnT's Party, I played the Flute too! I actually liked marching band. I however have no talent. We had something like 25 flute players and I was 24th! LOL! Still glad I did band! (Our band was huge. Music started in 4th grade and by the time we got to high school there were a lot of us. Somewhere around 200)

Wow, there are lots of us here that are former band members. :)

I played clarinet all through middle and high school, and also picked up flute (just for grins) and tenor sax in the jazz band. I was THE band geek. Even majored in music for about 2 seconds in college until I realized that I didn't want to become a starving artist!

I'm supposed to be starting my training plan for my Half this week!!! :scared1:

Ang: Musical instruments I can play, All Mallet Percussion (bell, xylophone, chimes, etc.) Tympani, bass drum -most percussion stuff, Alto Sax, Tenor Sax, Flute and a bit of clarinet.
So much fun and kept me "busy" in school so I didn't get into trouble.
Marching Band was a big contributor to my decent racewalking technique!!!!
Don't freek out about starting training, you can do it and you know you can!!

Think I'll do well with the cowbell thing during Scream Teaming! :lmao: (now all I need is a cowbell)

Having a bit of a headache and I think I need to get rehydrated, off to get some H2O.

Who tapers for a half marathon??? :lmao: Just kidding Racey Tracy.

I got out there and did my 16 miles. Small group joined me this week. The post Jamba Juice hit the spot.

Off to watch some super athletes do their thing at the Olympics. Go team USA, but some of those athletes from other countries are pretty awesome themselves. :thumbsup2

hhhhmmmmmmmmmmm...... Very Funny Mr. Miles Aloha Jeff!!!! I am more of a 10mile walker. Don't like longer than that, especially in HOT weather!!

Hi everyone!

I haven't been on the weekly thread in a LONG time! Just doesn't seem like there is enough time anymore to get everything in. I have been really busy with planning my wedding, and that seems to consume all my time lately, and there is still a year left!

Unfortunately, I am not doing the WDW marathon this January, and I don't really have any races planned right now. I had applied for the NYC marathon lottery but did not get in..oh well! I think I am going to try to find some local races in the fall to keep me motivated.

I recently joined a brand new 24 hour fitness center...the place is AWESOME!!! That being said, I have been working out a lot, including swimming, cardio, and strenght exercises. Now I just have to get back into a running routine!

I will try to keep up with the weekly thread a little more this week!

BTW-I was in the band as well...I played the trumpet and my senior year of high school, I was the drum major of the marching band!

Another flute player here. I really was the worst, also like last chair. :lmao:

Hey Carol, you'll have to tell me how the Galloway thing goes. I looked into it, but they really don't meet anywhere convenient to me. Bummer.

Tomorrow I move on to week two of my program. My neighbor across the street says she is gonna join me. I don't know if she will blow me away or not since I'm kinda like a newbie all over again. They are a very athletic family, but she doesn't run. I am sticking to my program, though cause I gotta get back in the groove for the Donald.

I had no idea we had so many talented people on our team! Maybe we can form a music group like the Partridge Family or something! I sing in the church choir, but I'm not claiming to be a good singer!! ;)

Just sitting on the couch watching the swimming in the Olympics. Is anyone else as addicted to the Olympics as I am? I keep channel surfing between the 7 channels the Olympics are on, I'm trying to watch everything!! :happytv:

Mel--You know you want to do that duathlon!

Tracy--Congrats on getting your 13.1 miles in this morning!!! Enjoy the taper and get hydrated today.

Laurie and Becky--Welcome back!!

Carol--Congrats on the new job!! That's awesome that you were able to find one so quickly, especially in this economy.

TX Ang--I am a little concerned about half marathon training too! I figure I'll do my best and what happens, happens. So, Sean is 7 months old now, right? What kind of new stuff is he doing now?

Bryan--:wizard: for your 5K next Sunday! I know you are going to do great!

Amy Beth--Are you out there? I heard My Chemical Romance this morning and I thought of you! How are you doing? Did your daughter have a happy birthday?

Scott--Just checking to see if you are still alive too. I haven't talked to you and Amy in ages. Hope all is going well.

As For Me--Carter and I started walking this past week. We got in 5.54 miles, hoping to get in more mileage this coming week. I can't start running or do any core workouts until my post-partum doctor's appointment the first week in September, so I am biding my time until then. I think tomorrow I'm going to add light leg weights and toning for my arms to the walking. I am anxious to get this baby weight off! My "old" shirts fit again, my pants, not so much, but I am getting closer! ;)

I hope everyone has a great week and good luck training!!

Krista

Oh, Stephen says

Hello Athletes! I hope your weekend is going well. I played chicken off and on with thunderstorms today.

I ran two miles earlier in the day and made it home to witness a hail storm with hail 1/4 to 1/2" in size and smaller. Then it cleared up and now it is threatening again in the early evening. I ran 2 miles early on and 6 this evening. Here are my stats:

Miles: 8.01
Time: 1:11:20
Pace: 8:54

Splits:
9:08
8:35
9:09
9:22
8:37
8:49
8:41
8:55

I think the Hip Flexor strain is behind me for now. I was cautious today and stretched it out before and during the run. I felt pretty good overall and I think my splits are evidence of that.

I hope everyone has a great week!

He is such a cutie! Congrats!

As for musical instruments, I don't play any. I feel so untalented. :sad1: I did take piano lessons for a summer when I was 8, does that count? If you guys form a Partridge Family type band, maybe I can drive the bus?
