Wk of April 6 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Thanks for the advice everybody. I've decided to take a week break from running and try to rest my legs.

Carrie I've done a 7-miler--which was the longest that my 15k plan called for. So mentally, I know I can do that much anyway. Plus, coursewise, 7 miles takes you to the path from DHS to the Boardwalk. Mentally, if I can make it that far, I know I can go the rest of the way!

Amy Fortunately, no aches/pain/tenderness when I'm not running. The best way to describe it is it feels like muscle fatigue. But I'm going to treat it like it is "early shin splints". So now anyone who walks by my office may see me with my legs up on a chair, ice on both shins, laptop in my....lap (how novel!)

Didn't work this hard for the last 3 months to blow it all now. And yes, while I appreciate how much I've accomplished so far.....I STILL WANT THE BLING!

Maura

TXAng -- OMG! He is soooo beautiful!! :lovestruc Yeah, uhm, I think if you take him mall-walking he's gonna have a fan club in the first 5 minutes and you wont' be able to move! ;) Then again, you may line up 10 or so babysitters and be able to do your running outside! :rotfl:

Good evening WISH team mates!

I've had a good day with few meetings and a good workout. It was a sun-shining day and the temp was 70 degrees when I left work. I had the top down and it was gorgeous! Why, or why does it have to get cold and rainy?

TXAng: what a little cutie!

angietuck2: I always start out slow. I'm afraid of overdoing in the first few miles so I like to take it easy. I've not done much in the speed training for this Minnie so I won't make the same time as last year but I'm gonna have fun.

Maura: so sorry to hear about your foot troubles. Hope it resolves itself soon!

Have a great evening everyone!

I grew up in Parma and my mom still lives there. Which 5K are you doing on the 19th? If by chance it is the Old Oak run I will be there.

Yep, that's the one! I figured it's a pretty flat course. Have you received your race packet yet? I signed up last month and still nothing; I'm getting worried (can you tell I've not done this before!)

Good Evening Team

OK so all good things have to come to an end.... or at least a halt, or a break. When will I ever learn :confused3 that's what I want to know? All week my back, calf, leg you name it has been bothering me and oh yeah.. I haven't been eating right again so... I was going to run tonight , yes three nights in a row -- bad runner. But I'm doing my LR Saturday instead of Sunday and I'm not going to run tomorrow and I didn't want to skip 2 days, ya da ya da ya da

So I barely ran .8 miles then turned around and walked home. Does anyone out there ever go out for a run (that they know they shouldn't be doing in the first place..that whole psychological side ) and you literally feel like EVERY step is a struggle. That your legs are so heavy you just can't possibly lift them for another step and you begin to wonder if you have just NEVER done this before. Was all that training a bad dream? Anyone? OK probably not I'm probably just completely crazy :scared1: Kidding. Just wanted to share that's what happened to me tonight. But it's ok, I will ice, I will rest, I WILL EAT and I will pick myself up and do 10 on Saturday, if I don't get stuck in a downpour ;)

Angie...you're not crazy. I find my brain being involved in the run is just as important as my legs. I went out for one a couple weeks ago after a particularly brutal day at work and just couldn't do it...turned around after about a half mile and walked home.

We're having some major LTO this year. I'm thinking this will be one of those years that we'll be glad to see ending. Jeff and I are both having some major issues at work, Kaley's got some personal things going on and my mom's just out of surgery after shattering her ankle and breaking her knee at school yesterday. My stepfather has post-polio syndrome and has recently gone on disability...his left side is weak and worsening so I'm concerned about him being able to help my mom while she heals. He fell in the house a week or so ago and just sat on the floor until Mom got home to help him up...she won't be able to do that while she's convalescing.

In an effort to keep my sanity, I'm now running 4 days a week. I still haven't gotten back up to pace since I was sick and we've found our heat/humidity. When I ran yesterday around 4pm it was 82 degrees. :scared1:

Jen...congrats on your speedy 3! I'm officially releasing you from having to run with me at Minnie. I'm still at R4/W2 and having a hard time getting back below a 12mpm pace.

Welcome to all our new folks! I promise I'm not always such a downer.

Yeah!! No rain tonight after work.
I decided to go over to Mount Trashmore again for some hill work. I was good and took alittle different path tonight and walked more of the horse trails.
3.12 miles in 45min24sec. Not too bad and with hills!!
Take care everyone!!

Angie -- I am glad you were smart enough to go home, though sad that you had that experience.

Mel -- Oh, your poor Mom! I will keep her and your stepdad in my prayers. Please tell Kaley I am thinking of her and sending a hug.

ETA: I had a 7:30 meeting this morning, so no gym time then. I went tonight and just biked an hour while reading wedding magazines.

Hey team, here is Jen with another SNOW report. Yup, it's doing it again, with an expected 2-4 over the next 2 days. They initially said we would get mostly rain, but that isn't happening. North of us they are expected to get up to 10!! the kicker, the weather report said the average high is 56 degrees now. UGHHHHHHHHHHHH. The extended forcast does put us in the 60's for next week!!!!

So tonight I hit the TM at home for 45 minutes. The last couple of days I have felt a cold coming on, so I am not feeling so well. Wouldn't you think this junky weather would do me in.... or all the stress in my life.

Debra - I wish I had a funny story about my brother... but no can do. He has disowned my entire family and has set out to destroy us and our business. He was arrested for his involvement in the drug community... which is quite a problem here!

TXAng - Cute little guy!!!

Angie - CONGRATS on the job, I hope you love it.

Carrie - I keep forgetting congrats you on your PR. PR's are AWESOME. I plan to PR at Minnie, even with my terrible weather for training. Oh Wait, never ran a 15K before so no matter what it will be a PR. HA, take that nasty weather.

Mel - Sorry I missed your post. I totally know how LTO is, I have no end to it. Seriously, today I was telling myself that there is no way I can keep up with you during the Minnie. My speedy 3 was me really pushing it. My LR's are much slower with more walking. And I definitely know the humidity will not be good for me... heck it's still snowing here!!!!! So don't toss me aside yet, unless you really want to be solo... I'm totally OK with it. I know that I will not be speedy in the heat there.

Just thought I would share a photo taken with my cell phone today after work at my "Mount TrashMore". It's a converted landfill (but in FL it doesn't go down into the earth it piles up and makes hills) It was a very nice day and today was a high of 83. It doesn't really do it justice and the depth isn't that great.

Hope you enjoyed this moment of "Show and Tell" brought to you by your local Disney Fan!!

Did you run my run today? Sounds like mine. Oh it was awful! Sorry you had to go through a bad run too.

Jeff - I'm sorry you're having a tough time, but I have to admit I was glad to know that the weather isn't always beautiful there!

Cindy - I was a real slacker while the stress fracture was healing. I had a walking boot and crutches for 3-4 weeks and orders to do NOTHING, and although I could have done upper body I opted to really do nothing. Then it was just the boot for 2 weeks - a total of 8 weeks between the actual fracture and returning to running. I started back with a couple of miles, but by the end of 3 weeks I was running 10. Now that I read that in my log I'm wondering what I was thinking? But I'd run 18 the week before I got hurt, so I guess I was stubborn. Anyway, I truly did nothing the entire time I was healing - I was way too depressed! Do you have a diagnosis yet?

Maura - The week off will be good for you! And Leana's suggestion for a massage might do wonders - my chiro worked my shin area and I was amazed at the improvement.

TXAng - BEAUTIFUL!!!

Angie - Listen to your body!

Mel - :grouphug:

FireDancer - :welcome:

Claire - About that dog walk... we did go out for our walk, then after we got back DH noticed blood spots on the floor. Seems Mystic found something sharp and sliced the pad on her paw. At 10:00 Tuesday night we made a $200 trip to the emergency vet for them to give us pills and send us home (the alternative was a very expensive sedation and suturing procedure with no guarantees that it would hold when she walked on it!) So now she can't go for any long walks until the pad heals...

Lily - Hooray for a great run!

Everyone's doing so great... I keep waiting for the motivation to sink in. I wish I were doing Minnie so I'd have something to train for, but other than a 5K on the 27th there's nothing definite on the calendar - yet. Haven't decided whether I'm running with my group this weekend or not - obviously can't do the regular 10 since I haven't been out with them since early February!

Have you received your race packet yet? I signed up last month and still nothing; I'm getting worried (can you tell I've not done this before!)
You will just pick it up there before the race. The only 5K I have ever done that sent the packets out early was the Race for the Cure. If the race is a support race for a marathon or half they sometimes send the packets out early. Some races have an early pickup at a local sponsor's location but you usually have to go get them. The vast majority of the time you just show up at the race a little ahead of time and get your stuff.

I have done this race the last 2 years and it is a very flat race so it is a good first try.

GOOD LUCK

Hey gang,

Nothing a good run won't fix. Thanks for the well WISHES. :lovestruc

Sending my own well wishes to those who have a family member or friend who's ailing, and to any of you who are still under the weather. :wizard:

I got out for a 5 1/2 HMO (Health Maintenance Outing). Vog and humidity still lingers, and the rains hit the big island, Maui, and Kauai, but avoided Oahu.

Good going to all who got out there and did their "homework." That's what our clinic calls putting in the miles and hours in roadwork. Keep up the good workouts, and the races will be easy. :thumbsup2 Remember to listen to your body. If your tired, go easy. If your injured, rest. Do what's right for the mind, body, and soul. DO NOT overdo it.

I received my Goofy race certificates in the mail today. Nice! ::yes::

Have a great Aloha Friday, and see you all at the waterstops...

If I'm not around this weekend, I'm busy watching The Masters golf tournament. :happytv:

Just a drive by before my swim...wish I hadn't skipped this thread for the last 3-4 days...I'm too far behind to say much!

Mike

Can you guys help me with a team name? We have a group of us doing the Rock N Race (for Cancer Care) and we need a team name...looking for something fun...so far our youngest runner is 14 and our oldest is 63, with a bunch in-between....males and females....any ideas?

TIA

Mel - :grouphug: :grouphug: OMG, when it rains, it pours. :wizard: :wizard: For everythign going on. Nothign like an upcoming WISH event to make things better. Oh, yikes. Does this mean your mom won't be abel to come thie tyear. :guilty:

PungoAngie - I liek ROckin through the ages!

TXAng - Great pic! Thanks for teh smile!

Tracey - COngrats on your run!

Mike - GOod luck on teh swim!

ANgieTuck - You need Helen's 10 minute rule. If, after 10 minutes, nothign gets better, you bag the run and go home. SOemtimes, you need ot listen to your body. Glad everything went well with current job. I am so happy foryou on teh new one!

Jackie - You need a race! I have been rockin' since marathon, only because I had races on teh schedule. That' sall that will do it for me.

Jeff - COngrats on teh Goofy cert!

CHrista - SOrry about the stonker!

Helen - WHere are you?

Jenn - :grouphug: Way to show that stinkin' weather who's boss! Hey, you know if you need to talk about the craziness, you can call. PM me if you don't have my number anymore.

Cam - I am so proud of you for getting your gym time in!

Me: Well, I had a solo trip to teh gym last night. Told meself that I could be as slow as I wanted and went with that. My foot hurt ike my shoe was too tight. Seeing as I have lock laces adn I ran 13 miles at that tightness and was fine, I was sure it was something I was doing wrong. SO hard to figure out on a TM, though. So, after 15 minutes of nothing working, I stopped and fixed my shoe. That helped. Starting agian was tough, though. Then, I was thinking about the fact that I'd do 5 miles in an hour at that pace. Well, that seemed slow, but at least I was moving. Then, I realized that our LR this weeekend was only 5 miles. So, that ws plenty. Then, I thougth about the fact that i coudl really quit early, as I should'n be going the same as my LR. OMG, that last 45 min was awful, but I made myself stya the whole 60 minutes. Yes, I am still patting mysel fon the back. ;) The great thing is that nothing hurt, so my half left me non teh worse for wear! Woo hoo!

Misc for teh Moms - WHile I was on teh TM last night, I saw teh coolest Volvo ocmmercial. Couldn't listen, but watching was cool. The mom ws in a bike race and teh family was her crew. Just made me think of the moms struggling with their workout time. I couldn't find a link to it, but keep and eye out for it. It reainforced doing what's good for you adn making it a fmaily thing to be rpoud of. :grouphug:

Have agreat weekend everyone. Happy LRs to all!
