Wk of April 27 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Michelle: Good job on getting back in there!

Frank: Wow you are flying out there! :thumbsup2

Debra: The grad program I am in is mostly populated with ladies who are currently teaching. Most of them just take a class or two in the evenings during the year and then do some summer school. So (a) I have to take night classes (3 hrs one day a week per class whew!), (b) I have to take summer classes, because some classes are only offered. It can be a challenge getting enough classes to be "full time", but this way I get my doc finished in 5 semesters and 2 summers. Most masters students are pushing their 4 year limit rule to finish! Yay on maybe finding a place to rent!

Jackie:  on your running revelation!

Ang: My undergrad was in Elementary Education with a minor in Special Education. I originally was going to get my masters in Gifted and Talented Education, but instead I decided to go all the way for my Doc in Children's Literature (still getting certified in gifted ed). I should finish in May 2010. Good job on the runs! You can handle 3 min runs :cool1:

Monte::dogdance: Doggie Day sounds fun! What a neat idea.

Stacie: Those shirts are awesome!

:earsboy:

I've had a good weekend. On Friday, I got my 8 miler in. I did get rather distracted by some blackberries along the trail though! So it was run.stop and eat berries.run.stop and eat berries. Perhaps not all that effective of a training strategy, but yummy nonetheless! On Saturday, while I was skating, I saw a fox! It was only about 6 feet away from me. It looked rather lonely, perhaps because it was in the middle of the city! For all you northerners up there I'll try to send our weather up your way. We just had a "cool front" come through--now it's down just below 60 degrees  .

Cecelia - Awesome cheer squad! You are so right about teh name. Why do I feel like I shouldn't put my name on my shirt because I'm not a newbie any more? :confused3 I lovecheering fro peole who have done it.

Stacie - Fun shirts!

Mel - No blog. Like I need another place to ramble. :rotfl: Thanks fro the link!

FOr those where it is still snowing. :grouphug: We're supposed to see some tonight :sad2:, but luckily not sticking.

Rough weekend with no sleep, so very little stuck in my brain. :guilty:

Did my 5-miler on Saturday. OMG was it windy. LUckily, dh did a good job of going into it on teh way out, so it was at out back coing home. The idff btween against and with teh wind? 1 MPM! Wow. Still, the with the wind splits rocked!

4 sleeps 'til Minnie!

Hey Team - Today is a rest day for me for my back (it feels a little better this morning). Yesterday I cross trained in the afternoon during DD5's b-day party. 12 4-5 year olds were enough to make me go crazy. And only one major meltdown, when a little girl gave DD the Barbie car she already has (You can never have too many Barbie cars). Oh and I only had to yell at her once for inappropriate behaviour.

Now I have had enough pizza and cake to last me a long time!!! Oh did I mention it is snowing this morning. Yup, I thought it was over and winter is back. Some areas may get accumulation!!! Temps are to be in the 50's tomorrow and the rest of the week tho!

Congrats to all the races ran over the weekend. I opted out of my 5K due to the weather... snow and wind gusts of 40+ miles per hour. A 5K was just not that worth it to me (I didn't sign up for it, so I wasn't out any $$).

Have a great day all!

Stacie - I love the shirts, they are so cute!

Jackie - Thanks for sharing the pictures, looks like everyone had a good time

We had approximately 120 dogs in the pool and it was so funny to see some of the larger dogs afraid of the water, while the little ones were swimming all over the place. We also had a big air contest where the dogs would run and jump off a big ramp into the pool. Some of the dogs were flying! lol:rotfl:
So now the pool is closed for 2 weeks for deep cleaning...too bad the entire club isn't as I would love a vacation. hee, hee.

Mel- I do not have a blog.

PireatesRock - Congratulations on your first marathon. The next one will be even better since you know what to expect now. It’s good to hear that you are going to hit the RFTT 10k. I am going to get down there and do it one of these days.

Leana- Congratulations on your PR.

Kira- The Poly is the resort I want to stay at the most. I usually just stay at Pop since I am one of those people who just sleep in the room and don’t hang around the resort but one of these days I will suck it up and do a weekend at the Poly.

Scott- I am looking forward to VS coverage of the Tour de Georgia next week.

As for me: This weekend was the Hermes Cleveland 10 Miler. I wanted to finish at a pace that would be a 90 minute half which would be 1:08:42. I ended up at 1:05:50 which was pretty close. I was a minute up on the time until about mile 8.5 when it went from wind tunnel to hill back to wind tunnel. I’m happy with the time though. All I have now are 5K’s until I leave for Italy.

-Frank

Morning Team! I did 6 miles yesterday in 1:29. I am getting so excited about the Minnie this weekend! I can't wait to see all my friends! This is going to be great!

Mel - Yes...have a blog and the link is in my signature :)

Leana - CONGRATULATIONS!! Sweet PR!! That has to have you nice and motivated for this upcoming weekend :goodvibes: Hope to get a chance to say hello to you at the WISH meet on Saturday.

TX Ang
- cross week 2 off the list..nice work!! I know you'll be just fine for week 3...don't let those runs intimidate you :)

Kim U
- Congrats on your half marathon!! Way to go!! I'm an 'A' shoe subscriber myself...Asics :)

Allyson - Good luck with week 5 this week...hope the shoes work out well for your DH

Kim
- The blog looks great! It'll be fun tracking your journey to Goofy '10 :)

Monte
- Doggie Day sounds pretty cool! I never knew such a thing existed...mine would just go nuts over something like that

Morgan
- verbal diarrhea :rotfl: great blog btw!

Tracy - how did the relaxation and packing for Minnie go?

Jen
- Best wishes this weekend...I hope the back pain subsides enough for you to have a good time out there!

Kira - Poly!!! How cool is that??!! I'm HOPING to get to spend a few nights there for a little post Goofy RnR in January...you guys are gonna have a blast! Way to go on the 4 miler too!

Betsy
- 3 tri's this MONTH?? Holy smokes! I don't know how you do it! :worship:

Stacie
- Cool shirts! I bet you guys will get lots of fun attention wearing the anniversary ones around :goodvibes:

Lily
- Smart move choosing to be fresh for the Minnie as opposed to risking further injury to that quad

Jackie
- Congrats on beating last year's time and enjoy your rest day today!!

Claire
- Who needs GU or gel when you have berries!! I think you are on to something!

Carrie - Nice work with the negative splits :) Get some good rest this week!

FireDancer
- Hopefully the VS coverage will be a bit better than Sport South's coverage...they skipped so much of the action in their little 30 min recaps. Awesome pace on that 10 miler!

Heather
- Nice run!! Looks like you are all set for the Minnie!

Debra - How 'ya doing, buddy?

Amy - It's Monday...tomorrow is Tuesday...Wednesday is WDW!! Hope the potential 6 pilates classes between now and then go well for you...should have you all geared up to film your DVD :goodvibes:

Scott's World - Well I pretty much covered it yesterday, but I did the 6 miler, then watched the final stage of the bike race. Today I need to make up for my missed workout on Saturday. If the weather holds out, I'm gonna do a 10+ mile bike ride around the 'hood...if the rain continues, I'll just knock out 45 or so minutes on the elliptical. Other than that, just checking off the final to do list so that I can be up and out the door early Wednesday morning for my trip to WDW! :goodvibes:

Good morning, WISHer's!!! Happy Monday!!! I'm going to try to get caught up today, we were out of town Friday through last night, so I wasn't able to post. I did get to read as we had the laptop and a wireless card, having the Internet certainly made the 6.5 hour car ride go a lot faster!!

PiratesRock--:welcome:! And congrats on your first half marathon!!

Michelle--Congrats on your 3 mile run! I'm going to second Craig, please be careful not to push the pace or run too much and get injured. Slow and steady is the key to training! Also, from last week, I do not think that booking through a travel company is cheating at all! I admire people who run for charity, but I can't do it all, I just don't feel comfortable asking for and then collecting donations. If I signed up to run with a charity group, I would probably end up paying for my donations out of pocket! How is your wedding planning going? When is the big day?

Monica, Carrie, and Jen--Snow??? Are you guys serious??? Although tonight it's supposed to get down in the 30's again. Explain to me how you can go from 85/60 to 50/35 in a matter of 3 days??

Monica--The doggie swim sounds like fun! Sorry you don't get a vacation for the next 2 weeks!

Carrie--YAY for your lr on Saturday!! You are so ready for Minnie!!

Jen--You had how many 5 year olds were at your house over the weekend? :faint: Did I read that you are running the half in January? We'll have to talk pacing the closer we get. That is if I'm able to get back in shape to run after the baby gets here. I may end up being a back of the packer, which is A-OKAY with me!

Leana--Congrats on your PR!! That is awesome!! I'm overwhelmed when I read your posts and see all that you do. I don't know how you have time for it all!

Scott--Haven't seen our neighbor or his dogs since that incident. Hopefully it opened the family's eyes to keep better tabs on their pets. But I doubt it. I watched some of the draft on Saturday, but I don't follow college football at all, so I didn't know any of the draft picks. Stephen's cousin how does follow college football was jealous with the Steelers picks, so I'm guessing it was a good draft! Did you pick a resort to stay at? I'm a big fan of the POP.

Kira--You're staying at the Poly?! I am green with envy! Have a great time!

Cecilia--How did CMM go? Was your's husband's IT band okay? Great idea about putting your name on your shirt. I know whenever I've watched an event that I wasn't running, I always call out people by name. As a runner, I know how huge that is in the middle of a race.

Jackie--I love that picture of Mystic! I know she and Hines would make great friends! How is your knee holding up? We were in your part of the world over the weekend, Asheville, NC.

Stacie--Awesome shirts!! You are so creative!!

Mel--Do you still need someone to start the thread this weekend? We'll be around if you do. Just let me know. Oh, and no I don't keep a blog, but we're trying to figure out which route to go with the baby. We've looked into doing a baby page through different website and starting our own website.

Judy--Keep resting that hammie!! :wizard:

Minnie Racers--Good luck this weekend! I'll be thinking about you as I watch the Flying Pig. (And speaking of Flying Pig, I got Hines the CUTEST pig costume to wear, can't wait to post pictures. :lmao: ) :wizard: :wizard: for safe travels this week and have lots of fun!!!! party:

Did anyone happen to catch the Disney on A Dime special on the Travel Channel? We Tivo'd it and watched it last night. There's a scene where a family is at Trails End and at the table behind them was guy wearing a marathon shirt and his Goofy medal! :thumbsup2

I don't have any training updates to share. I think I'm going to dig out my old Marathon for Mortals book and look at the walk half marathon plan, I was thinking I could probably do that now, it'll give me a schedule to follow and it shouldn't be too strenous. I'm just really nervous about bouncing back once the baby is born and not getting injured. And speaking of the baby, I do have baby news, Stephen finally "saw" the baby move and felt him move on Saturday, it's all becoming so real!!

Krista

I saw a sign at CMM this weekend that I think wins the best sign ever made for a marathon. It had a picture of two red glittered running shoes and said "click your heels." The other great sight were the three teens that had MOM spelled out on their chests. The two on the end kept doing handstands so that it flashed "WOW" then "MOM"

OK that has got to be the cutest thing I have ever heard. I literally LOL'ed when I got that picture in my head!!

I've had a good weekend. On Friday, I got my 8 miler in. I did get rather distracted by some blackberries along the trail though! So it was run.stop and eat berries.run.stop and eat berries. Perhaps not all that effective of a training strategy, but yummy nonetheless!

That sounds like my kind of run!! Yummy!!

As for me. We'll Saturday morning I got up and got my 8 miles in. I kept about an 8:47 pace for the entire run, but I was really sore Sunday and still a little today. I may slow my pace for Minnie down a little. I was planning about an 8mpm, but it will probably be more like an 8:15-8:30. Saturday we threw a BBQ/surprise birthday party for Michael. He was so shocked, and it was so much fun. I think I scared him with the sparkler candles though. We lit the candles and started singing "Happy Birthday" and he was saying, "Mom, they're flashing", "MOM, they're FLASHING", "They're not supposed to be doing THAT!!". It was so flippin' funny. We even got it on video!! Gosh it's hard to believe that he turned 7 today!! Right now I am cleaning, baking cupcakes to take to his class, and trying to get in a quick run. I'll let you know how it all works out later!! Hope everyone has a great day!!

Dana

Kim

Cecilia--How did CMM go? Was your's husband's IT band okay? Great idea about putting your name on your shirt. I know whenever I've watched an event that I wasn't running, I always call out people by name. As a runner, I know how huge that is in the middle of a race.

Krista - Thanks for asking! I posted a report on the race report thread. (I am trying to follow rule #1 and not whine.)
Dh had NO ITband problems and had an awesome race. He is so excited! I take all the credit as his coach. :lmao:
I think we really need to stress to ALL our racers how huge it is to the crowd to know your name so they can cheer for you. Not because you need the cheers but because they want to cheer for you.

Cecilia

Morning team!

TxAng - Yay, you finished week 2! Congratulations!

Kevin - Thanks for the link to your blog. Safe travels back home!

Kim U - Welcome to the boards and congratulations on your race! I'd definitely recommend finding a good running store and getting fitted for shoes. Ultimately brand and colour don't matter, it just depends what works best for your feet. Good luck shopping!

Allyson - Good luck with week 5!

Hockey Kim - Yes, it has finally stopped snowing here!!! We reached 18 yesterday, 20 today. The weather is definitely looking up! How was the trip to the mall?

PandaDave - So sorry you guys won't be at the final Minnie. Best wishes to Erica as she continues to recover!

Monica - Doggie Day sounded like a hoot!

Tracey - Great job on you 7 mi walk this weekend. It sounds like you'll be great for the Minnie this weekend!

Jen - Fingers crossed your back will be just fine for the Minnie!

Kira - Thanks for the kudos and checking out the blog! Congrats on getting that run in even though your day was busy.

Jeff - Gorgeous pictures!

Craig - Thanks so much for the advice, I'll definitely have to give that plan a whirl.

Stacie - Love the shirts! See you at the world next weekend!

disneyluv - Thanks!

Lily - You've been working hard so it sounds like the rest was a great way to go. See you in a few days!

Jackie - Congratulations on your race!

SamSam - 10 miles?! Good job!

Cecilia - Terrific idea. Once again, congratulations on your race this weekend.

Claire - Good job on your 8 miler!

Carrie - Oh no, snow?! I've seen enough of that white stuff to last me several months now.

Frank - Congrats on your race! When are you off to Italy? Where in Italy are you going? I love it over there and can't wait to get back one year.

Heather - Great job on your 6 miler!

Scott - Thanks! Good luck on the bike or elliptical today. I can't believe the Minnie is so close already!

Krista - Thanks so much! How great the Stephen got to see the baby move!

Dana - Great job on your 8 miler - sorry to hear it was painful afterwards though. Glad to hear the surprise birthday party was a hit!

As for me, after my race yesterday I went out for a nice bike ride. Rode towards a trendy part of town, Marda Loop, for about 10 miles. We stopped at a pub for some wings, then rode back. The hills on the way back...killed me! After the last little incline I was so glad to almost be done because my legs were finished. 19.15 mi when it was all said and done. Had a scary moment though - a woman not paying attention almost made a left turn into me as I was going through an intersection. She started her turn just as I entered the intersection so there was no way I could stop. Luckily she did stop in time, but it was still pretty scary.

Otherwise, the weather here is amazing! I'm going to aim for 3 mi over lunch today. Tomorrow night I have boot camp, then I leave on a red eye for Orlando that night. I'm hoping to get a run in around SSR-DTD on Thursday. Hopefully the warm weather and Thursday's run will help me to aclimatize in time for the races this weekend!

Greetings Race Team -

Just a quick "It's all about me" post because I have a thousand things to do at work today.

I did 6 miles on Saturday morning. I took it a little easy. The hamstring let me know it was there within the first half mile and kept reminding me the entire time, but it was very slight. Certainly nothing to stop me. This morning I did 30 on the TM. I'll do the same Wed and Fri morning...then I am done! Bring on the Minnie! :woohoo:

Good Morning WISHers! Well, I guess it's more noonish...LUNCH TIME! ;)

Hope everyone had a good weekend!

Mel..I don't have a blog. No time. Thanks for the posting the Running Rules. :thumbsup2

Angie...How's the back??? Treating you ok?

TXAng--Congrats on completing Week 2!!! Way to go. You can do week 3. No problem! :)

Priates Rock Kim... WELCOME! Have fun shoe shopping! I went to Fleet Feet and I think I tried on every pair in the store! I was in there well-over 2 hours. I ended up w/ 2 pair. One is my every day wearer. I wear them to work and around town--New Balance. I've good success w/ New Balance and my running shoes are Saucony's. Saucony Hurricane 9 to be exact. :goodvibes They have done well for me. I need a good stability shoe.

Allyson...Good luck on Week 5! You guys will do awesome!

Monte...Doggie Day. Sounds fun. Great job on the biking and the weights!

Jen...Glad to hear you back is feeling better.

Leana...Yay for the PR!!! :cheer2: Congrats! Glad to hear your close call on the bike was not too close. Scarry!

Kira G. Did you get your 4 miler in? The Poly!!! How nice. I would LOVE to stay there, but my pocketbook disagrees!

Jeff...Nice hiking. Looks beautiful.

Scott...Yay for getting your 6 miler in. What discipline you have to make up your workout today! Hope you had fun at Six Flags. Sounds awesome. My brother and I went years ago when we went to visit Susan. It's probably been almost 10 years! It is so not fair you leave Wednesday! ugh. I have to wait til Friday! :goodvibes

Amy...Hi! How are ya chick? :wave2:

Krista...we didn't get Disney on a Dime. We have regular cable and they moved that channel to Digital Cable. :headache: I love the travel channel, but never get to watch anymore. I can't justify the cost difference for one channel though.

For me...I got my 8 miler in on Friday. I was SLOW!!! I'm not sure how I feel about it. Am irritated, discouraged? 1.30+ behind pace. or am I ok with it because I took it easy, got in the miles, uninjured. I can't decide. I wasn't sore after, feel good, but my pace sucked which makes me doubt myself for the Minnie 15K and worry about the possibility of getting swept. I will definately be getting to the starting line undertrained and healthy vs. overtrained and injured though. That's about it. I hope to get a 30 min walk tonight and Wed night.

I got most of our packing done yesterday. My new camera came in. Yippe! Now we just need to learn how to use it. We fly out Friday Morning. I can hardly wait!

Stacie

Hi everyone! Nice to "meet" all of you! :flower3: I am new to the WISH team and have just been put on Walt's Warriors (Go Warriors! and thanks WWDave!) So to jump in on the action, I got in 3.5 miles both on Saturday and Sunday. Sunday's run was tough as it was 92 degrees HOT here! I don't have a blog, but I do keep a journal on my desktop. I titled it "Running to Disney" (real original, huh?) and make entries whenever I work out. It's funny to go back and read my entries as sometimes I inspire myself :rotfl: while other times I have no idea what I was talking about :confused3 ! I plan to print it out after I complete the DL 1/2 in August for my scrapbook!

Michelle – Congrats on the 3-miler! Bride Minnie ears – that’s a great idea!

Thanks! I told my mom and dad this weekend that I was planning on wearing the bride minnie ears and they loved it!! they are eating up this wedding!!

Michelle: Good job on getting back in there!

Thanks! I really can't wait to get back out there and build up some miles!!

Thanks so much Krista!! Unfortunately I was forced to take it easy this weekend with the running, as I had sooo much going on that it was virtually impossible to fit anything in. The wedding planning is going GREAT! My sister, (maid of honor) came to visit me this weekend and we went dress shopping which was SO much fun... And best of all, I just may have found "the dress". It is gorgeous! I didn't want to take it off, it was so much fun wearing it, and I truly felt like Cinderella in it!!! Our BIG day is (hopefully) May 17th, 2009. We just have to wait for May 17th of this year and our wedding coordinator will put us in for that day on Disney's calendar. As long as no other bride wants that day, location, and time, we've got it! Its killing me with anticipation!!! Thanks for asking, I love talking about the wedding!

And since I'm still trying to get to know everyone and keep up with everyone, I just wanted to say HI!!!! to everyone! and to keep up the Great work!!!

As for my weekend, I ended up only being able to run Friday night! I was a bit sore from thursday, but decided to go really slow and easy. I did about 3 miles, and once I got going my legs felt really good. I stretched for a long time before after jogging, and felt fine saturday morning! just a bit sore... Score!

Sat. and Sun. were days devoted to working outside on the garden/yard. We recently moved into our house (late last year) and have neglected to do much with the backyard (although the front yard, and inside are really coming along!). So Sat. and Sun. my parents, sister and aunt came up for a visit, and we spent all weekend digging, rotatilling, raking, planting, shoveling, dumping heavy loads of dirt and rocks, and all of that glorious stuff that goes along with making a flower garden in your backyard. Our soil is just horrible! It was touch, it was rocky, it didn't want to come up! We basically had to pick axe the soil to break it up and shovel it out for all of the areas where we planted something! We are just so sore today from two days of that! We planted two trees (japanese maples!!! my favorite!), some hydrangeas, roses and a few lilies. AND we have SO much more to do! Mixed in the middle of the yard work was, as I mentioned before, Wedding dress shopping, which was a HUGE sucesss!!:woohoo: I think I found "the one." We also looked for BM's dresses, and found one that was really nice, but I am not as sure about this one as I am my dress. My mom also wanted to run to Michael's at some point to use a 25% off coupon, and if any of you shop at Michaels, JoAnn's or A.C.MOore, you MUST know how AWESOME this coupon is! :thumbsup2 the sale was only from 4pm -8 pm yesterday, so we also made a trip out there. I got a lot of nice stuff including a book on flowers for weddings.

OK back to running, My plan: I'd really like to get out there today since I have had two days off from actual "running" (although the amount of work we did outside sat. and sun. were probably enough to make up for it!). IT is pouring outside today though! I hate that! I am hopping it will lighten up by the time I get home and then I can go for a jog, but it doesn't look good. If it doesn't, I'm going to try the new pilates tapes I got off ebay for .... .99c!!! Freakin fantastic! :yay:

That's all that is new with me! Thanks for listening to my weekend of horror! (just kidding, it was great!)

Michelle

Frank - Congrats on your race! When are you off to Italy? Where in Italy are you going? I love it over there and can't wait to get back one year.

I am leaving on Wednesday May 14th and coming back on the Tuesday after Memorial Day. I am doing Venice and Florence on Thurs, Fri, and Sat and then meeting with Vermont Bike Tours to do a week of biking Tuscany. Afterwards I'll be in Rome for a couple of days.

I am looking forward to it. I mean it isn't Disney World but it will do. I just hope they managed to Imangineer their country to match the Epcot pavilion.

Michelle - :welcome:

Hi WISHers,

Sorry I have been MIA for so long. I have been lurking/skimming when I can, but just haven’t had any time to post. I have so wanted to catch up with everyone, but if I wait until I have the time to do that, I may never get to post. :lmao: Just lots of LTO.

:welcome: to all the Newbies! It’s great to have you here.

Krista & Steve – I love the baby’s room. It is adorable. Very cool that Steve finally got to feel the baby move. :thumbsup2

I know I am missing so many (ok…..everybody :sad2: ) but I just wanted to get on here & say HI  I really miss you guys.

As for me…..Like I said, lots of LTO. Been getting in most of my training, but unfortunately have missed way more runs than I would have liked, including this weekends LR/W. We spent the weekend helping friends move their DD to a new house. Wouldn’t be a big deal, except that their DD lives in Georgia & we’re in New Jersey. :lmao: We left Thursday afternoon, taking turns between 4 of us driving through the night. Packed & moved everything on Friday & spent Saturday un-packing. Sunday was another 14 hours in the truck driving home. Needless to say…I am exhausted today. :faint: I will get in some training tonight though at the gym. Probably take it easy. Maybe some easy peddling on the recumbent just to stretch the legs & get them moving. :upsidedow

I should not read things like this while I am "suppose" to be working!

(And I think they got it backwards!)
