Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from non-running beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

:welcome: PiratesRock! Congrats on your first half marathon! Gotta love any sport that involves buying new shoes!

MouseDave...when will you hear about your interview? I have the same thing on May 9. I'm being considered for faculty at a new pharmacy school here in Bradenton.

Jen, Monica...snow?? When does that stuff usually stop?

Jackie...what race is your Galloway group training for? Do you start training for WDW this early?

MinnieMuffin...glad to see you'll be joining us for the Minnie! Who needs that stinkin' training? ;)

Vic...hope you're having fun at the race!

WWDave...I'm with you. Speakin' finance is like a foreign language to me ;)

Carrie...I love your Scott quote in your siggie!

Update on team stuff:
There is a steering committee of about 20 folks who are working on tweaking things around here to make the board a bit more user friendly. We've tried to make sure to have a good cross-section of folks to adequately represent all facets of the WISH team: walkers, runners, triathletes, newbies, veterans, etc. We will update the team and ask for feedback once we get a list of things to do together.

Is anyone available next weekend to post the weekly thread? I'm not sure I'll be bringing the laptop to WDW. TIA!!

Question: do you guys have blogs?

Yup, I have a blog! I find that in addition to the boards it really helps my motivation. I've had a chance to meet up with a few blogger buddies at races before too!

Mel, BTW, I'll try to make it to the WISH meet on Saturday, so if you can just bring my shirt then that would probably be easiest. Thanks so much and see you on Saturday...!!

MS Dave – Happy Birthday to your DW’s grandmother! And I hope you get the job. When do you find out?

Angie – Take care of that back and have FUN at the Minnie!

Allyson – Congrats on finishing W4! Sorry you were having a little ankle trouble. That’s no fun!

Craig – Somehow I missed the fact that you went to grad school at UT. That’s very cool! We love Austin.

Claire – What are you studying in school? How much longer until graduation?

Hockeychic Kim – W2D2 stands for Week 2, Day 2 of the Couch to 5K. Good to see you again!

Cam and Patty – Congrats on finishing Week 1! I found Week 2 to be only a little bit harder, not as bad as I thought it would be. Good luck this week!

Jen – So sorry to hear about the achy knees! :wizard:

Carrie – I keep threatening to chop all my hair off, but don’t think I actually have the guts to follow through. I’ve only had short hair twice, and didn’t care for it either time. Especially during the time when it’s too short to pull back!

Michelle – Congrats on the 3-miler! Bride Minnie ears – that’s a great idea!

Scott – Hmm, dipping hair in chocolatey goodness…you might be onto something! A new way to get carbs on the run! :rotfl:

Frank – 8.25 in under an hour? You ARE speedy! :worship:

Debra - Aww, aren’t rescue animals the best? Our two came from a shelter, too. Did you get out and run today? If so, how did you feel? Hope the rest helped out! :)

Tracy – Pilates for Dummies? How is that? I tried pilates exactly once, and felt like a bumbling idiot the whole time, so I never tried it again. Maybe that’s the video I need.

Jackie – WTG on the 3.77 miles!

Allie – Woohoo for your first 6-miler! Congrats!!

Amy – Glad you had a better run after that stonker the other day!

Carol – Hope you enjoy running with your Galloway group! Sorry to hear about the painful calf, though. :wizard:

PiratesRock – :welcome: Congrats on completing your first half marathon!

Mel – Yup, I’ve got a blog, but I talk about all sorts of random stuff, not just running.

Me - Finished Week 2 of the C25K today! :dance3: Day 3 was today: 2.23 miles in 31:24. Feeling a little nervous about next week's 3-minute runs.

:welcome: PiratesRock! Congrats on your first half marathon! Gotta love any sport that involves buying new shoes!

Seriously! I'm already planning my next pair. A doc I work with who runs said pretty much anything that starts with an A is going to be good and I noticed a LOT of Adidas out there yesterday. I wear New Balance to work in, and they're great, so they'll be on my list of possibilities too. I've never cared for Nike, they just aren't shaped like my feet... which has always been a bummer since they have such cute shoes!
I'm going to check out Runner'sWorld and see if I can get some good info, then find out where all the local runners go for their shoes.

TxAng way to go on finishing W2! I remember being very nervous about the 3 minute runs too but once I tried it and did it, it felt so rewarding! You CAN do it!

DH and I are starting W5 this week. Last night we went to PR Running, a store about an hour from us, and he was fitted for shoes. They spent a lot of time with him, had him run outside several times, and he ended up with a pair of New Balance. He isn't thrilled with the way they look (I like them, they have sort of a yellowy/orange N on them)but he said they felt good. We'll see when he gets out there today to really try them out.

I have a blog too but it is very random. I talk mostly about whatever is on my mind, which can be anything from parenting to American Idol to what's for dinner, and I just started doing this Pay Per Post thing so now the posts are getting even more random! It's all for the Disney jar though so if they want me to write about sites that sell workboots, I'll do it! LOL!

Have a great week everyone!

Allyson

Carol- would you mind sharing the instructions to do the Garmin that way? I would like to try it. Either PM me or share it here for others that might be interested. :)

Here is what I posted last week about setting the garmin 305 for intervals. The other versions will be pretty close as well.

Interval training - There are different options that you can choose and I think they have do with combinations of distance and time. I generally use run for a set distance and rest for a set distance or run for a set time and rest for a set time. To get there hit the mode button for the main menu then select Training>Workouts>Interval. From there select the type of interval you want (run time or distance / rest time or distance). Then you put in the values for the run and rest spots and how many intervals you want. You can also choose if you want a warm up and cool down time (I haven't used this so I don't quite know how it works). If you want to end an interval early, just hit the lap button.

It has been a while since I use the interval function but I think you need to enter in a number one higher than actual number of intervals if you are trying to run for a specific time or distance. For example, a 30 minute workout with a 3 min/2 min interval would need to have 7 reps. This may have been fixed but in the 305 but I can't remember. It is usually the opposite of what I choose so you might want to play with it a little.

I don't have a blog or a spaceface or whatever the latest and greatest is. I'm so motor mouth on here and DisneyRunning.com that I don't have any other time. I often can't find the time to say things on here I want to. I do try to find the time to keep up with the friends I have made since friends are our greatest treasures.

I'm wishing I was going to Minnie with those of you who are going. Everyone going have some extra fun for those of us who can't.

My lady is healing nicely and it's been a huge motivation for her that people have donated miles for her. She said the other day that she was going to be very dedicated to her training when she can start again. She said she was not going to let everyone who believes in her down and she is going to pay back those miles when others are down for injury or recovery from medical procedures.

I'm trying to be the poster child for "You need to stretch". I have always used my exercise time for doing my sport, first running then walking and not much time on the crosstraining and stretching. Everyone I ever met who was faster than me would give the advice, "If you want to get faster you need to stretch". I'm determined this is the year I get my head out of the sand and do everything right.

See I told you I get motor mouth. Slinking off now......

Walking Panda:hippie:

:thumbsup2 Thanks, I printed out your instructions for a guide when I set up my Garmin.

Good Morning!

Today is Doggie Day at work, so we'll have about 100 dogs here throughout the morning. Doggie Day is where they open the pool up to the local pooches to swim before we drain it tonight. We do this annually then close the pool for cleaning for 2 weeks. It's alot of fun, but boy does it get hectic!

Anyhoot, I rode the stationary bike yesterday and did weights...it was a great workout! Enjoy you Sunday.:goodvibes

Welcome, PiratesRock!! You'll have fun here!

Mel, thank you for all that you and the team do to keep these boards welcoming for everyone. You all are the BEST!!

Ang,way to go on finishing W2!! I remember being soo intimidated all through C25k and look at me now! I am proof that YOU can do it, too!

Allyson, good luck with W5!! yay for DH getting new shoes!

HockeyKim, good luck at the mall! ;)

WWDave, I never thought about stretching making you faster. That is something I need to work on more as well. I am good post-run but not any other time. Good luck!!

Monte, that sounds soo cute! But all that wet dog smell, eek!

Me.. yep, I've got a blog. It allows me to have verbal diarrhea about running without driving the rest of the world (namely Jeff) totally insane. :rotfl:

Good Morning all you WISHers!!
I got out and did a 7mile LW this morning with temps at about 76. (I was out the door at 6:45am). Humidity was a bit high, so sweat was abundant. aKept pace at a pretty even keel not wanted to push anything - average pace was 14:32. This was a taper LW since I did my "Minnie 15k" last Sunday.

I do not have a blog, not sure if people would want to read what I have to say. I doing this is enough for me. :)

Panda: Glad to hear your DW is healing well, can't be easy with both feet having bunion surgery. I had something similar to my right big toe (chilectomy), but they reshaped the joint mostly on the top and not the side like a bunion. I have degenerative osteoarthritis in that toe. It's been 2years since and I'm still doing good. Right after the surgery was when I started training for my first Half Marathon. I did have to go for PT for my toe, which sounds kinda weird, but I really needed it and it helped tremendously!!

PiratesRock: I like New Balance alot and that is because they fit the shape of my foot very well. I like that they have different thing for different people, stability shoes, cushioning, shoes for overpronators, shoes for neutral gaits, running, walking, trail etc. Just my opinion of course!!

Well, I am off to do some laundry, relax , watch some Nascar (go KK #9) and start packing for the Minnie.!!

Good Morning WISH Team.

Just wanted to WISH any Orthodox team members a Happy Easter. Cristos Anesti!

Hey Team - Well I did my last LR before the Minnie. Nothing spectacular. I have a back injury that has been really good to me the last year... but the last month it is really aggravated. I dropped to r3/w1 (thanks Jackie) and kept a decent pace (while in pain). I had to run on the TM because of the cold weather here. But I noticed the sun did come out finally. I am not resting my back like crazy!

Today I will also have cross training. DD7 has her piano recital and then we run off to DD5's b-day party. I have to pick up the cake and balloons yet and then we are DONE!

WWDAVE - please share your stretches. I never know what to do, so I always do the same thing.

Mel - I have a Jen blog that is ramblings about me and all the stuff I do, running included. I don't have lots of time to post to it, but I am trying to do it more regularly. I also do a blog for work. Blogs seem to be the HOT thing right now.

Just a quick note before I shower and head out for a bike ride, but I PR'd my 5K this morning!!!

I was hoping to go sub 30:00 but I started out too fast and the uphill in the last half of the race killed me. Oh well, something to shoot for next weekend at the Go Red for Women 5K.

30:22.....my new PR!!!!!

Hi everyone! I am getting in on this thread early this week so I can respond before I get too far behind!

Mel - Thanks for everything you are doing to have WISH evolve to the next level, and make it even better than it already is. I love, love, love this team, and am excited about what the future could bring. I am a total newbie, but if you ever need someone else to participate with your steering committee I would be to step in. And I totally trust the process as well.

Leana - I checked out your blog, and it's really great! I don't have a blog and I don't see myself having the space for that in the near future. And GREAT JOB on the PR!

TXAng - Great job on the C25K. I love that program - it's really what got me started on this journey.

Kevin - I haven't yet gotten a chance to tell you CONGRATULATIONS on being so close to coming home. My brother was in the first Gulf War, so I know something about what it's like to have a constant low-level concern and worry for your loved ones. I'll check out your blog in the next few days.

PiratesRock - A somewhat belated :welcome: to you! It's great to have you here!

Allyson - If you post the link I'd love to look at your blog as well! They are so much fun (and random doesn't bother me - it sounds like my life!).

Bill - I haven't really tried those types of features on my Garmin yet. I think I need to fool around with it more. Thanks for the tips!

Kim - Have fun at the mall! ;) I'm taking my 10-year-old today - it's her birthday and she's getting her ears pierced!

Panda - I wish I was going to Minnie too! :sad1: Add me to the list of people you need to have extra fun for!

SamSam - Hello to a fellow Triple D!

Carol - Thanks for the further Garmin instructions!

Monte - "Doggie Day" sounds like a hoot! Great work on the training.

Morgan - Your blog is a hoot! Thanks for sharing it with us (and Mel, thanks for asking!).

DsnyFan21 - Great work getting out there so early! To me, Sundays are for sleeping in!

Nepatsfan - Good morning to you! (well, good afternoon at this point!)

Jen - Take care of that back! Can't have you injured right now.

Wow - and it's only 2pm on Sunday!

As for me - I am struggling with myself today about getting out and doing my four miles. I am juggling a bunch of stuff and it might just fall by the wayside. I am going to try to fit it in between the mall, the phone call I have to do, and taking my daughter out for her birthday dinner.

One more thing I have to share with you guys, since I am so excited! We are going to WDW at the end of August for free dining, and I just upgraded us from POR to the Poly!!!! Staying at the Poly has been my dream for years, and usually it is completely out of the questions since there are 6 of us and we would need 2 rooms - try pricing that out, yikes  ! But since my husband is staying home we can all fit in one room, so I get to stay at my dream resort! I'm planning on keeping the upgrade a secret from the kids until we get there, if I can stand it!

That's it for now! Off to the mall (woo-hoo!).
