Wk of April 20 - WISH Walking/Running Club

HI All,
My name is Kim and I'm new to the DIS. I finished the '07 Disneyworld 1/2 when I was pregnat with my now 7 month old son. I am going to participate again this year and was looking for inspiration. I have enjoyed lurking on your board and just thought I would say hello!
So thanks for all of your inspiration and fun, and who knows maybe I'll become one of you lime green WISH t-shirt wearing runner/walkers.

Hi Kim
Welcome aboard and MAJOR kudos to you for RWP...(racing while pregnant). :worship:

Hi, Erica!!! :wave2: Go and read Cecilia's post..you ARE training!! :thumbsup2 You are giving those areas time to properly heal so they can make you go FASTER!!! Keep up the great work!

:welcome: Cosi Bella! How absolutely awesome to have a Disney wedding! It'll be fun reading about your training in between wedding plans!

Shan, :grouphug: I do hope you find out what the problem is.
Leana, you are too kind. :flower3: So glad you had a successful chiro visit!!
Davis'Mom/Kim, :welcome: (you and I posted at the same time!!)

:goodvibes Anne

Woohoo!!! :woohoo: Keg party at Vic's! :cool1: Hey, Vic, Does this mean we all get to see your tattoo in person? :faint:

Yep! And you don't even have to get me drunk. :thumbsup2 :cool1:

Amy and Scott - Beers up!

Cosi Bella - :welcome:

Anne - Wa'suuuuuuupppp!?

GARMIN 305 Users:

When I set up my Garmin, I accidentally answered NO to the question about the HR option, where it would set my Maximum based on my User Profile. Am I able to go back in and do a redo, or do I just set a Max based on 220-my age? If so, I am running in Zone 4 & 5 all the time. Is that ok? :confused3

Also, I would like to chime in on my WISH experience. My young DD and I came to our first WISH event in Jan. I didn't "know" any WISH members except for Sandy321. I bought my WISH shirt from CafePress, and wore it to the Pop meet on Friday. We didn't exactly match all the rest of the WISHERS, but they didn't care. We were welcomed with OPEN ARMS, and even given a few treats for FREE! :thumbsup2 We even had folks cheering for us on Friday morning BEFORE we ever met any of these WISHERS. They welcomed me because of my shirt. I felt a part of something bigger than just a group of lime green shirt wearing folks. I have to say on behalf of me and my daughter THANK YOU WISH for welcoming us! :grouphug: I can't wait until I can get back down there for another event now that I "know" more of you now. Good luck to all the Minnie participants next week! :cheer2: :cheer2: We'll be sending you speedy pixiedust: !!

Ok, back to business.

I'm going out for a 6 mile run after work (yeah, I'm still here slaving away). Today is a WISH dedicated run to everyone. I'll be sure to take in the sunset, ocean, and beach sights for all of you. Sigh, someone's gotta do it, so I'll sacrafice for all of you. :rotfl2: Darn, I forgot the camera at home.

Have a great evening everyone, see ya'll on the flip side.

I'm coordinating this Thursday's post run BBQ, in case Vic wants to show up with his keg. Vic, I'll bring the cups! :drinking1

Yikes! Gone most of the day and came home to several pages of... :confused3

Hugs to all my fellow WISHers! :grouphug:
This group has helped me so much!

Here's a funny story. I got DH the Race Ready shirt when I ordered mine. He never posts on here, but loves his shirt. Got compliments on the back from another runner and has already worn it several times. (BTW, it held up great in the wash! Even the disboards correction. I just made sure to wash it inside out and hang it dry.)
Sunday he was coming back home from a run and our neighbors stopped him and asked why his shirt was so bright. He told them it was so nobody would run over him. :lmao: Then they asked if it was bright at night and he told them it is when he turns on the batteries. :thumbsup2

Going to Doc at 11:30 tomorrow. Knee has been hurting all day. A very bad thing cause before it didn't hurt after I ran. I hope I didn't make the injury worse. :scared:

Someone asked (Sorry, I now can't remember who?) if my doc was an athlete. He used to run marathons when he was younger and gave me alot of sympathy and antibiotics when I had the flu before my half so I think he'll help. If not, Cecilia gave me the number of a doc and it turns out DH knows him so I'll just wait and see tomorrow and go from there...

Fellow Atlanta WISHers - isn't this weather BEAUTIFUL?!? I hope you're getting some great runs in! :woohoo:

Has anyone thought about Make A Wish??? Kinda combines WISH with Disney...

B/c my profession as a therapist has all the drama I can handle right now, I choose not to get involved in this heated discussion.

Vic - Can we make that a ROOT Beer :lmao: I will take 1

Debra - You hear voices...now that I can help with. REST GIRL! Do as I say, not as I do...;) ;)

Scott - Are you sure you want me to bore you with my WOs? I just try to keep up with you.:worship:

Shan - I am praying for your Dr appointment and the pain you are in. I am so sorry.

Had a show today. With the set up, show, take down, ect, I "WOed" about 4 hours. I do count it b/c the sets are heavy and hard to move. Then I heard WWdave tell me (in my head) to do ab work..so I did my ab stuff....Thanks Dave!:lovestruc

I start counseling tomorrow at 0730 and end at 1900. I have a "lunch break" so I will tri to WO then.

Yes even Evil Queens of Running must do ab work.:)

Vic, I'll have one of those Beers if you have some left. We are way overdue some beer laps around Epcot.

Thirsty Panda:hippie:

I thought this meant Bill ran the Flying Pig Marathon, and was running really fast. :rotfl:

Fortunately, I had no beverages in hand (or mouth) when I read this. :lmao:

No, Vic...I'm not an engineer. I was not invited to the pork smokin' party either. :sad1:

Debra...my favorite ice cream is one we make at home...cinnamon with mini choc chips and a touch of red pepper.

:welcome: Kim!

:welcome: Cosi Bella!

Okay Idol fans...David Cook gave me goosebumps tonight!

I think I'm going to change my screen name to Instigator or TroubleMaker for this year ;) Just to clarify my position, I see a lot of potential but would not in anyway sacrifice the integrity, message or welcoming, nurturing nature of the Team. The Team list now includes 174 names and contains folks in 5 countries. That's just the folks that have posted..we've no idea how many lurkers are out there (hey y'all...jump in and get to know us :thumbsup2 ) We have grown in ways I don't think any of us really imagined. If this goes no further than bouncing some ideas off of each other, that's cool.

And I did run today...4 miles 48:28 :thumbsup2

Regarding how do you qualify at age 85 for the Boston Marathon? I have no idea, I'm new to this running stuff and that was the first time I had ever even attended the marathon to watch! However I did find this stat on the BAA website and found it really inspriring, pretty good finish rate for the over 70 runners! Way to go for them! The first number is number entered, number started, number finished and percentage.

70 & Over
all 137 122 110 90.2%
male 124 110 100 90.9%
female 13 12 10 83.3%

And I am a newbie here. I found WISH in January and it has been great. I love the support I get from people who really are just getting to know me. Yet they still have a moment to give advice or say Good Job when I just was able to run 5 straight minutes. Which is an accomplishment for someone like me who has done about ZERO exercise in her 38 years. Now since January I have been exercising consistantly, am working through the Couch25K and am registered for the Half in January. I have 2 WISH shirts which I was SO excited to get. Why? Because they do make me feel like I am a part of something so much bigger. A part of a wonderful group of supportive, inspriring people and I love, love, love the message on the back. It keeps me going! I am really thankful for what I have found here because it makes me feel like I really am not on this journey alone.

Allyson :)

Hey all you guys...you left me in the dust!!:confused3
I think my last post was about 20 pages ago.:rotfl2:

Wow......I would also say to move the "future plans of WISH" to another thread. JM2cents.

**Warning - some of these replys maybe from about 5 pages ago, I was trying to keep up but has a brain fart somewhere along the way.**

Scot: (In my best Scotty voice) Captain, I just can't hold it any longer - You must head south!!!

Leana: Your out in -8 and snow?? What are you insane?? ( I wonder if that means that Eye2eye will be able to get our shirts out in time??)

CarolA: I also LOVE the trails at AK!! - I'm so jealous you were visiting "The World"!!

Carrie: I also like your 10min rule. I need to find lots of ways to use it!!

Cosi Bella and Kim: Hi!! I am pretty new here also, but just jump on in - it's like taking off a bandaid the faster you do it the better - kinda.

Debra: I want to call you out and say - Are you RESTING right now? huh, huh? are you??

Jeff: just wanted to say that I play well with others. Also wanted to make a list of things that FL and HI have in common. Hurricanes, Palm Trees, Ocean, Sunburn, Pina Colodas, coconuts, swimming in the winter and other things that I can't think of just now.

Big Vic: Where's the Margaritas??????? (not quite a beer drinker)

I am really sorry if I missed other, but hope all is going well, but I have a headache from this thread from today and I need a rest.

Take care all and have a great evening.:thumbsup2

OH...

I forgot I wanted to post a photo of what my legs look like when I get back from Mount Trashmore. The mulch gravel trails and wind makes the sand and dirt fly around a bit.

(Sorry my leg/ankles are the best looking around and won't win any awards)

The line is wear my sock ended and my skin begins. (Also you can see the my horrible blister thats been healing on my right heal from about 5 weeks ago)

Boy, I really enjoyed the shower! Great weather here in SE FL today, High of 87 but with 10%humidity. Not too bad.

Later.....

You ladies are trying to balance training, and a pending 15K with tired bodies and injuries that range from nagging to potentially serious (I'm talking to you Angie).

Remember the most important thing you can do for May 4 is to step into the starting area (I understand no corrals this time) fresh and completely healthy. The race is 11 days away, and pushing your training now will not help you at all in the race. Pushing the training now, however, can put you on IR. I know you would like better results, and I know you are ready and willing to push for a few more days, but right now treat your body. Easy stuff, not too long, lightish weight work, stretch lots, ice the hurting parts, take the anti-inflammatories and treat your body.

We all have a number in mind which we are capable of hitting if trained to the edge on a cool and dry day. The problem is upping the intensity of training also ups the probability of injury. Paraphrasing the Sphynx in Mystery Men, "asking too much of your body in training only trains your body to ask too much of you." Or something like that. Work with me here.

Bill

Kindergarten, oh yes, do I remember that. Good luck in August. By the way, you are far too kind about your perception of my age. My parental kindergarten experience was some time ago. If you think I'm actually youthful, bless you my son. And since you made Lynnda pick up her own birthday cake, I suspect you need all the blessings you can get.

About that Philiosphical Question:

What is this group of people about? I would answer with one word:

Friendship.

I've always been a bit like Groucho Marx, I would never belong to a club that would have me as a member ;) . I think of myself as a bit of a free spirit (my inciteful Spouse calls it being my own person), so I'm always reluctant to jump full into a group, any group. I don't wear the colors because I feel like I'm more of a peripheral member of the group, particularly compared to the icons of the team like Lily, Anne and Mel, and in spite of that no one gives me any grief. Everyone lets me come and go as I like, is nice to me when I'm around, and understands my disappearances. Hey that's more than I get from my own Mother.

This Friendship manifests itself in many ways. With people like Steve, Colleen, Stephanie, Scott (both Scotts) and Amy it is as a virtual training partner. I really don't have anyone here to run with, so I train with my group partners in my mind. I know what they are doing, when I'll race with them next, and what type of result they are likely to get. This drives me to train so I can keep up with them and maintain their respect on the race course.

With my Friends like Cam and Carrie, it is support, totally unquestioned support. I respect them so much, and it makes me feel pretty darn good that they return the feeling. Earning the respect of people that you think highly of, man that's the most important thing in the world.

With so many others, and sorry but I cannot possibly list 50 names without an omission, it's about humor, understanding, laughter and presence. Bumping into Friends on the course is a total trip. Seeing those damn fools, I mean Friends, at mile 2 at 6:20 a.m., at mile 9 at 7:30 (still going strong here), at mile 20 on the Sun's anvil after I've died out there, and at mile 24.5 by the Beach Club when rigor mortis is in the legs means so much.

And to see Carrie and Scott bring the girl I married, injured and in pain, safely across the finish line at mile 26.22, heck that makes me cry. Well, not cry, per se, since obviously I'm a man and men don't cry, how about "get misty-eyed?" That sounds better.

I'll see many of you in a few days. Happy and safe training.

Craig

Craig: THANK YOU for what you just posted. Sparing everyone the details...suffice it to say that I was feeling down on myself for missing a cardio session today. Managing my own and my kids schedules, by myself, has been very stressful and is causing me to miss many workouts lately. Mind you, my job keeps me doing core work incessently but I really need the runs and cardio. But anyway I *almost* went downstairs tonight at 10 pm to get on the ski machine for some cardio tonight....because I felt GUILTY...I chose not to and instead eat my dinner. What you said Craig helps me to see that working out at 10 pm JUST to say "i did it" would do me absolutely no good at the Minnie. Eating....resting....that was smart. So now I feel much less guilty ;). THANK YOU! :goodvibes

Scott: Yes..I know you said that too. But You KNOW I NEVER listen to you .

Debra: pine nuts? really? hmmmm...interesting my dear. And core work YAY! You goooo girl! :thumbsup2 So proud of you for resting!!!

Christa: :worship: I aspire to be you! Super girl! ;)

Stacie:  TOUGH RUNS MAKE TOUGH RUNNERS. You rocked the 7 miler baby. Said it before...gonna' say it again...cannot WAIT to see you cross that line at the Minnie!!!!

Everyone else...SOOO sorry but I'm wiped out and have some Idol to catch up on. Esp since my fave David Cook gave Mel goose bumps. Sign of good things to come! :goodvibes

Leana: Your out in -8 and snow?? What are you insane?? ( I wonder if that means that Eye2eye will be able to get our shirts out in time??)

Eye2Eye is in the eastern part of Canada where they are currently experiencing summer-like temperatures. Not that I'm jealous or anything! Really, truly, -8 didn't feel that bad yesterday, but boot camp today in -3 was a bit tougher! Fingers crossed spring comes back here soon (hopefully in time for my 5K race on Sunday)!

Okay Idol fans...David Cook gave me goosebumps tonight!

I know!!! Honestly, last week's performance was probably my all time favourite. He's definitely a talented guy.

Yup, so boot camp happened today, outside...in a snow covered field. It was a total body workout - lower body, upper body, abs and bits and pieces of running. Luckily the shin felt pretty good the whole way through so the ART worked (at least to begin with). I'm going for a follow up appointment with my chiro on Friday and will probably get another session in next week before leaving for the Minnie to make sure that it doesn't flare up in Orlando.

Is anyone else excited about the Minnie? I can't believe it is next weekend already! I'm so looking forward to meeting/seeing everyone there. In a week at this time I'll be heading to the airport....!!!!:yay:

Okay, I lied about the 6 miler. :rotfl2:

I ended up doing 8.5, at an average pace of 9 minutes. One of my groups running guru showed up, and had me flying down the roads. I was huffing and puffing. I should have taken a gel, powerbar, or sports beans with me, but I totally forgot when I left my car. Ooops.

So to celebrate the end of a day, I took Vic's advice.

Tracy: good list, I wasn't thinking of those similarities of Florida and Hawaii.

Jeff,

You have good taste in beer as I had one a GB today as well :)

My goodness gracious, there was some interesting conversations going on yesterday. It will take a while to get through everything but here are some quick comments that I can safely make.

I don't remember being invited.

Mel, were you invited?

:confused3 :lmao:

This wasn't an engineer slumber party was it? ;)

Vic:[/B] I don't think I was invited to Bill's smoking pork soiree either. Do you think that I should be offended that he overlooked the vegetarian? :rotfl2:

Fortunately, I had no beverages in hand (or mouth) when I read this. :lmao:

No, Vic...I'm not an engineer. I was not invited to the pork smokin' party either. :sad1:

What do you mean you didn't get the invitations. :confused3 Maybe that is why no one showed up and we had all the leftovers (8+ pounds sitting in the freezer for some nice dinners sometime). I guess I will just have to make an open invitation to come over and partake. Just give me a day's notice so that I can make sure there is some pork or beef to smoke. :thumbsup2

Debra - you won't have to smoke it since it actually melts in your mouth without any effort. ;)

GARMIN 305 Users:

You are able to change the HR option later if you want to. It is under one of the menus. I don't have mine with me right now so I can't give detailed instructions but I will look later.

Bill:[/B] What's funnier, that you said that your weekend included smoking some pork or that this vegetarian didn't think to question it until I saw others' reactions? Billy, kindergarten. Already? (I must be channeling Lynnda. OH, and Happy Birthday, Lynnda!) As for the size of the single scoop, I have to say that I don't dictate it; that I MAY have chosen the local store that offers the biggest single size was completely a coincidence unrelated to my shoddy run. :rotfl: Now tell us, what did you get Lynnda for the big day?

The boys got her games for her Nintendo DS and I got her some CD's and a DVD of a band that she likes. They were actually on Fox's America's Top Band and made it to the finals.

Bill

For someone who has as much energy and runs as fast as you do, yes I would call you youthful. Mid to early 40's would be what I would guess if you hadn't said you were older (of course that puts Martha in her 30's since you obviously robbed the cradle ;) ). Lynnda seems appeased since she ate her cake with the frosting she likes. However it was one way that she could exactly what she wanted and not have someone (namely me) screw it up.
