Wk of April 19 - WISH Team Walkers and Runners

Swmr359 , Did you get fitted at a specialty store or just at a sporting good store? If the shoes aren't fitting right, I don't know any running store that won't refit them and return them for you, but I know general sporting stores have much different policies.

I did go to Zumba and Pilates in addition to my 4 miles yesterday. I'm dreading the start of taper on Monday. I can feel the pending madness.

Please tell my all about the "it band" symptoms, pain, recovery.

Almost 4 weeks ago I started have pain in the back of my knee after running. I'm now down to about 4 miles a week the last couple of weeks (I was running 25+ miles a week). The pain starts after about a mile or two and I just can't keep going. The pain is now more the outside of the knee and yes it is worse going down hill. I know, I know, I need to see a doctor and I have a physical scheduled in a couple of weeks and I don't see the point in going until then.

I can do the elliptical without pain so for now I will be happy that I can continue to get in cardio.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Kristi-- I love it :thumbsup2

Jennifer-- The Lexington 5 milers is a great race. Maybe we should run it next year! I've run it twice before. I wanted it to be my first "post back surgery" race because it was the last race I ran before starting the surgeries.

Speaking of running. I have none to speak of. :confused3 I did do a cardio kick-boxing class today that kicked my (_|_).

Joan - I struggled most of last summer with IT band problems. I'd be fine for a couple of miles, but by the end of 10 (or more) I'd be limping, and then for the next few days I could barely walk. I saw a massage therapist for a few sessions and she was able to offer some relief, plus give me some good stretches. Then I went to an orthopedist who prescribed PT, but I ended up taking a couple of months off instead just to let everything heal. I'd done so much damage by that point that it was easier to do that than to spend more time and money trying to fix things. I also switched back to my other shoes just in case the new shoes I'd bought were the culprit.

From what you're describing, it definitely sounds like IT band, so I'd suggest continuing to take it easy. Stretch (hopefully others can suggest the proper stretches, since I can't remember them ), and do as much XT as possible.

Good luck!

Jackie

Thanks Jackie
I was to get a massage a week ago, but she had something come up and then I was real busy this week so I'll see her next week. She did call and talk to me about some stretches. I have been on line to find stretches and using On demand exercise tv.
