Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

Everyone's out running, walking, swimming, biking, etc...

I'm vegging out with a cold. Oh well, sleep is good.

Have a great week WISHers!:thumbsup2

Jeffff....:confused3 a cold??? wassup??

Big  to you all the way from S. FLA!!!! Hoping you chillax and feel better soon!

Tracy

A new week and a new opportunity to catch up with the weekly thread. I've been off it a couple of weeks. :sad2: A little LTO and I had to manage my time, which I didn't end up doing effectively. I'll try to be better this week.

Jeff: Sorry to hear about your cold. It doesn't seem like paradise would knock you down like that.... :rotfl2: How's the Mr. Mom thing going? Any adventures you care to share?

Tracy: WTG with your 7 miler!

Frank: I believe I owe you an answer about the Stars. I looked at the schedule and I don't think we can make any in May. June is out, because DOOD is out of town and would kill me if I went to a game without him. (Okay, not kill, unless I froze to death from the icy, silent treatment.) How do you feel about July? Speaking of how you feel about things football, how do you feel about FAA Chelsea v. Everton???

Swmr359: Rainy weather gear. A light rain? Just my regular gear, with maybe a jacket. I sweat a lot, so barely notice the difference. :rotfl2: And if I wear too much, I just get uncomfortable. It helps that I live in Pgh, where it rains all the time. I got used to it.

Megan: How's your foot pain, or lack thereof? (I hope.) I can't believe you do the "On Demand" Bollywood dancing, too! I do it in the privacy of my own home because there's no way I'm going clubbing anytime soon. :lmao:

Carol A: Good luck at CMM!

Sk8ingMom: One of the things I love about C25K is that after it's all done you have a real sense of how much you've improved and how quickly. It taught me the value of keeping a log so I can see my progress. And WTG on your pace, breaking 12mm and running for 3.75 miles!

Maura: How I've missed you! How's the training progressing? Naps are essential to them, you know.

Jennifer: Love the double dipping with the workouts, and I'm glad to know that you're confident--as you should be--of meeting your goals on the 1/2. And :worship: for volunteering at the Boston marathon.

Shan: I think you're doing wonderfully. And your endurance will bounce back quicker than you think. And I always find regaining the mental toughness is the really hard thing, if that helps.

Jackie: Congratulations on you 10-becomes-11 mile run on hills. Way to tough it out!

As for me: Not much of interest to report. Had an off week with WOs and running, although I managed to do some of both. Ate too much, none of it that delicious. Slept at odd hours. Saw State of Play and was lukewarm about it. (Reminder to self: just watch the BBC series.) Overall, a bleh week I guess. So somebody give me a kick in the posterior and help me get motivated again. In fact, if you can tell me what gets you motivated when you're hanging at the edge of the wagon, ready to tumble off, I'd appreciate it. :thumbsup2

Hi Team! I thought I'd stick my head in here while the week was still brand new...I always intend to post but somehow don't get around to it!

Debra, the only thing that keeps me motivated is having an event on the schedule. I really admire the people who consistently put in the steps just because. Me? I need that carrot (bling) dangling in front of me., otherwise it is so easy to let other things get in the way.

Deb, good luck with the motivation thing. Been struggling with that on and off. I think talking about it helps for the so so times and for the more serious mements when I say I wll, I feel I then must follow through.

So, Deb, when are you going out in it again?

I've been getting in some bicycling and short Kirby Dog walks. This weekend is CMM! I look forward to hill work! tee hee.

Howdy Wishers, I hope everyone has a great week. Less than a week til my 1/2 marathon in Louisville.

Stan:cool1:

:stitch: 'Ohana Monday Mixer :stitch:

And now for a bit of silliness, just because... :teeth: The mixer starts here.

This week's mixer theme is "Superpowers That Would Be More Trouble Than They're Worth," and your question:

What would be the superpower you would end up being granted?

Some examples:
  • The ability to tell the future, but only one minute ahead of time.
  • Super-strength, but only in your thumbs.
  • The ability to read the minds of people whose language you don't understand.
  • The ability to see through one layer of clothes.
  • Super breath, strong enough to knock down your opponents. Unfortunately, it's because you're smells like garlic and you always have that power.

Of course, your superpower is unique to you. So feel free to tell us what you would do with your power or why you got so lucky as to be given it. :rolleyes1 Bonus points--again, they're worth nothing--for telling us what superpowers you think other WISHers might get. (Keep it DIS-friendly, though, folks!)

Howdy Wishers, I hope everyone has a great week. Less than a week til my 1/2 marathon in Louisville.

Stan:cool1:

oooh, the KY Derby mini-marathon?? That is on my list for next year, either that or Oklahoma City. My sister lives near Louisville, so I could combine the half with a family visit. Make sure you do a trip report!

Jennifer - Too Cool! Can't wait to hear the details!

Jeff - SO sorry you've been under the weather. Hope you'r edoing better soon!

Lily - Glad you are gettign out again! Baby steps are the key. Good luck at CMM! Can't believe it's here already!

Deb - SOrry you've had LTO, illness adn lack of motivation. Usually haveing races on teh schedule helps me, but not so lately. Hopiung the 2 weeks off has helped. That and the fact taht the 2 weeks off has put an end to my weight loss. :guilty:

Stan - Glld luck on your half!!!

Pat - Yes, much easier to keep up if you get in early. I'm hoping this will make it easier for me to get back here again.

DOn't forget teh SMileyK8 is doing Boston today! Go Kate!

Just finished a 2-week respite from mental runnig burn out. Starting training fro tri trianing today. SUpposed to bike/run, but it's raining and in teh 40s. :sad2: Going to see how much I've lost int eh swimming pool instead.

Have a great week everyone!

Just wondering, anyone have experience with Mizuno's? I'm looking at the new Wave, but the guy at the store didn't have much to say about them, so I'm not sure if he was steering me towards more expensive shoes or just doesn't have the knowledge...

Angie, I had the Mizuno Waves and had to return them. They killed my feet. I switched to the Saucony Ride and have had three pairs of them now. I tried something else before I bought my last pair of Rides and returned them that same day. Can't remember what they were... DH wears the Mizuno trail shoes and loves them, though. :confused3

Jennifer's Bill Rodger's story and Marathon Scream Tunnel Report

So last night I volunteered at the pre-race pasta party. Me and three non-runner friends. I have to admit we did it for the jackets. Any way so we're serving at the table closest to the steps/entrance. I'd mention to my friends jokingly that if Ryan Hall or Kara Goucher showed up, they may have to pull me off of them. Well, they didn't but at about 5:30 the mayor comes out to speak and announces that some former Boston champions are going to say a few words. Well, after the second guy is announced, I turn to my friend and go the guy three down on the steps (within 3 feet of us) is Bill Rodgers. "Who?" Me: "Boston Billy, the marathon legend" her: "Who?" me: "GO GET YOUR CAMERA!" She gives me her camera, when they break up from the earlier conversation, I tug on Bill Rodgers jacket and manage to squeak out "Can I please have picture?", and hand friend's camera to his handler. Bill Rodgers asks, "Are you one of the Wellesley girls?" and my response "Yeah, yeah, you're Bill Rodgers." I get a little starstruck.

As for today. My friend and I got out to the scream tunnel a little before 10. The Nike guy comes along and notice my homemade, "Kara, Bring Boston Home" sign and asks me if I'm a Kara fan. My friends laughs and says, "Oh Yeah," before I can say anything. He then gives me a Nike Kara Bring Boston Home T-shirt and gives us a bunch of signs, and tells us we have now become the unofficial-official Kara Bring Boston Home section of the Wellesley Scream tunnel.

At about 10:45 the pack of elite women come through with Kara, Tune, and a Russian at the front of it.

Around 11 elite men come through about 10 Kenyans and Ryan Hall. One of my other signs said Ryan Hall and Brian Sell are my type of men! Ryan was way to in to the race but Brian Sell winked at me (I'm guessing because he wasn't in the leader pack).

At 11:55 I took a break inside to watch a heartbroken Kara come in 3rd by about 15 seconds. Poor girl looked completely torn. For those of you that don't know Ryan Hall also finished 3rd this year.

We grabbed lunch at abou 12:30, so I think I may have missed Kate.

All in all it was a wonderful experience and really got me pumped for my own 1/2 marathon in just under two weeks.

Today is supposed to be my cross training but after watching all of this, I really want to run!

Best,
Jennifer

Jennifer - That is jsut amazing!!!!!! wow. :scared1:

Angie - DH has used Mizuno Wave Riders for over 4 years now. He wears by them. It's been so long, I don't recall why they were supposed to work for him, but he loves them. WIsh I coudl tell you more.

Carrie, yeah it was amazing! What was even more amazing was watching my friends who have no clue why I'm freaking out over half of this stuff.

Debra, Thanks once again! When I do doubles I have to laugh at myself because I like to pretend that I'm Kara Goucher or Anna Willard or Shalene Flannagan or whoever my running role model of the moment is.

I'm posting again because, my friends started a guess Jennifer's race time challenge today (they call it challenge rather than pool as there is no prize lol) so far they are:
Jen: 1:45:55 (Jen is an athletic trainer/future sports medicine doc, so probably has a better idea than even me, but it is faster than I think)
Kyla: 1:47:59 (I think my friends think I'm faster than I am)
Jessy: (who "knows nothing about running, but thinks I'm really fast): 1:40:00 (yeah, right)
Jodie:1:52:00 (probably the closest in my opinion)

Oh and my current thought is 1:50:00 (but I work like the Boston marathon plus or minus 59 seconds) and at least under 2 hours. The goal-which-must-not-be-named won't be named until 48 hours before the race.

13 days left til my first half (maybe I should say 13.1 days)

Jennifer

Jennifer, I was cheering at Boston today too! We were out near the beginning though, in Ashland, around mile 4 I think? Anyway I had my WISH shirt and did see who had to be Kate! I was so excited to find her! It was so cool screaming for all those runners, so amazing!

GL with your first Half coming up! I did my first in January and it is such a cool experience!

Allyson

Angie- I've had the Mizuno Wave, I thought they were pretty good shoes. It all depends on you though, did they feel good on your feet? I actually just got a new pair of shoes, Nike but if they don't work out I'm getting Mizuno's again as they were my second choice at the store.

Since I just bought new shoes I have to run on the treadmill for a couple days. I hate treadmills so I've put of running for 4 days now.... My goal today is to run:rolleyes:

Jeff: Get well, I woke up Friday with a little cold so this weekend I downed Vitamin C like it was crack and I was Whitney Houston. It screwed up my plans for tapering for Nashville but I am all better and will adjust.

Deb: I think July will work. Pick a date and let me know, we'll work it out. I wanted Man U to win all before them but I guess if you have to sacrifice a trophy I would rather sacrifice the FA Cup than the league or Champions League. I love that everyone is down on Sir Alex for sending out the kids when those kids took Everton to penalties...not bad for a bunch of squad players and teenagers.

Angie: 2 of my last 3 running shoes have been Mizzuno Wave Riders. If they are the ones that feel best go with them and if you are going to a running store you think is steering you away from the shoes that feel best to the ones with the biggest profit find a new store. Your feet will thank you.

I had been taking it easy for a couple days to get this cold out of me and I think I am back to 100%. I'll be doing a short diagnostic run to make sure there are no pending problems for Nashville. Other than that I am just watching the calendar and waiting for Thursday because we are heading down after work. Of course this has turned into a busy week until then because I have a couple of training presentations and have to meet with an Avaya and Nortel rep to decide on a new phone system for one of our new branches.
