Wk of April 13 - WISH Walking/Running Club

How do I join? I am new to exercising and want to commit to do more so hopefully I'll get some of this excess weight off. I'd want to be able to run with my daughter in some upcoming races.

Cecilia – Oh, no, I’m sorry about your son! Hope he has a quick recovery.

Krista – WTG on the 3 miles! I think that’s about 2 miles more than I did during my entire pregnancy  (ok, that’s an exaggeration…but not much of one!). Yup – Sean came with a full head of hair, but he’s starting to lose little patches along the back.

Amy – Glad to hear that you’re taking a rest day and getting a massage! I hope that helps you feel better. Also, all this cookie talk is making me hungry!

Judy – Sorry all the projects have got you feeling sore. I hate when that happens!

Jen – Aww, Kate is a cutie! That’s too funny.

Shan – Take some time to rest. Seriously, it’s not worth it to get even more injured.

Becky – I don’t know, a Half only two weeks after Goofy sounds like a lot to me. Maybe a 5K or 10K would be better?

Angie – Only a few more days to go! I can’t wait to hear all about your first day on Monday.

Claire – Ouch, sorry to hear about your unintentional dismount! Hope you’re not hurting too bad tomorrow. What kind of skating do you do?

Carrie – Sorry you’re having a crummy day.

Maura – Has it been a week already? Wow, time flies. Hope your 3-miler tomorrow goes well and that you have absolutely NO pain. And SIX tax returns? Goodness, you definitely deserved that chocolate!!

Patricia – :welcome: You'll love it here.

I got out today and did W1D2 of the C25K. It was crazy windy! Sean did really well - didn't seem too bothered by the wind, but I was tired by the end of it! 1.86 miles in 28:50.

II got out for a 7.5 miles, starting on an intended hill run, but bumped into a friend along the way. So we reversed course, and made it into a beach run down by the ocean. Life's rough, I know. :rotfl2:

That sounds SO nice! I can't wait to see the ocean again this summer!:beach:

Welcome! :cheer2: I am pretty new here too, just this year and people are very welcoming and encouraging. Just jump in!

Allyson

Fire Dancer (May I call you Fire?) Racing on Saturday & Sunday? You must be one of the "Goofy" types.

Maura: I have been called much, much worse...and that’s just by family members :goodvibes . I wish it just took 2 5K's to get the goofy...I am still a Donald.

Can I make an observation about this: :bride: smiley? I am not sure if it is supposed to be a blond girl or one of our founding fathers in those silly powdered wig things that were all the rage. Was this put in the list only to be used on the 4th of July perhaps?

Carrie: Summer ice cream...:goodvibes I someday hope to move to a place with year-long summers for just that reason. Probably not NC, though, huh? ;) Right now, however, I'm obsessed with Amy's cookies. They've been built up in my mind as the Holy Grail of baking.

Morgan: Your mom sounds great! And take those accolades, not only because you deserve them but before your mom gets all jaded with your many successes. My parents' reaction to my doing the Goofy (my first event)? "Oh, you didn't have a very good time, did you?" before asking me endless questions about DOOD's success. :sad2: And in case I haven't said it, I think you're doing fantastic!! :cheer2:

Leana: I think it's great that you have a favorite niece, and having just one makes it easier to choose, huh? Good luck on your race this weekend--give those legs a rest!!

Aloha Jeff: Who knows, maybe the monkeys were drunk, too. There was a lot of monkey talk in that lecture. It could have done with that video as a visual aid, though! I think your running into a friend and doing a beach run sounds a little like utopia! Now wonder you're always so upbeat! :)

CarolA: There was some other stuff in the lecture--bits on multinationalism, cosmopolitanism in Early Modern England, issues of deracinated representation, yada, yada--but I remember the monkeys most. Yay for your longest-ever TM run!

Jackie: So it sounds like I've gotten a free trip to NC. Too bad I don't remember it. :rotfl2: Are you sitting up straight (I ask, right after I straighten up)? That Chi Running stuff gets into your head, doesn't it? And your core work is just going to help you with your form even more. Now YOU'RE reminding me what I need to do. Welcome to Pgh! :goodvibes

TXAng: That's right--calorie-free ice cream! That's our claim, and I'm holding you to it! I know what you mean by ILs who aren't into Disney and I do think planning for that wouldn't be pleasant. But you mark that 2010 date in INK on your calendar, you hear? WTG with your C25K success in windy weather!

Amy: Awwww, girl! I would never say no to the cookies, but you already give us here so much. I think we're just darned lucky to have you! I'm so glad you're taking a rest day & one that involves you really getting taken care of. You deserve as many massages & chiro visits as you can find time to schedule (make time to schedule).

Cecilia: Ooooh, I'm so sorry to hear about DS & the broken arm. :scared1:  I think you get a GREAT MOM award, though, as your attention was obviously where it needed to be--on him. No need to be embarrassed at all, IMO.

Krista: Great WO for both you & Hines. I'm certain you're keeping up your fitness level. I can't take credit for the ice-cream/personality analysis. That belongs to Scott!! I'm wondering what his favorite flavor it, though... I notice you didn't confess as to what your favorite mix-ins are.... ;) No Goofy for me in '09. Just the marathon, a nod to the families & holidays. DOOD & and I are going Goofy in 2010, though. I'll get to root for you at the 1/2!!!

Claire: I know it's not directly related to academic studies in your field, but you must be following the Rowling brouhaha about the Lexicon pretty closely. I remember reading some articles about HP in library science journals that argued for its effectiveness in teaching children's lit...fascinating stuff. That's the lit. review I'd be interested in myself. P.S. My protein bars, btw, were pretty bland--but no numbing.

Judy: Ahem. Chunky Monkey. (Didn't want it to fade from your thoughts.) :rotfl: You DO need a break from the manual labor of household projects. Wow! Now, why do I want to buy a house again?

Jen: Too cute! DD Kate is ready to be a WW sponsor, I think, as long as the Coke people don't try & stop her from spreading the message. (Not that they're an evil corporation or anything.) for another trip to WDW!

Shan: I agree with DH that you need to take some serious recovery time, and I think your leg agrees. When you're recovered your body will remember all that you learned in training. But if you push it too soon, you'll run the risk of injuring yourself more severely & putting yourself out of commission for a much longer time. Don't compare yourself to DH--difficult, I know, as I tend to compare myself with DOOD--as he's not running with your body! (WEll, he might be, but you know what I mean.) Follow others' advice--give it at least 3 days & see what happens.

Becky: I think your pace is great, and that the Miami ING might be a great way to keep you in the training groove if that's what you want, especially if you're thinking about running one or the other of them for fun/training/maintenance instead of both for PRs. (I don't know your goals, sorry!)

Angie: I'm so glad you're thinking about your back & avoiding injury. I know it's hard for you because you're addicted to running (I mean that in a good way), but I'd hate for you to get injured before your Minnie.

Frank: Cool, you and Morgan will be representing the WISH team! :woohoo: I hope you had a fun trail bike ride. 20 miles! Whoa! (Thanks for the confirmation on the name.)

Tracy: Now that's the kind of rest day--massage, hair cut, even core work--that has "good day" written all over it. You can't help but feel good about all the good things you're doing for yourself after that kind of day, right? :thumbsup2 Of course, it doesn't have the appeal of saying Mount Trashmore but, then again, what does??

Maura: Oh, I like the rest cure, too. Craig's very good about counseling it, and I tend to follow his advice. What's the mantra: better to undertrain than overtrain? You want to go into the Minnie uninjured and being able to run afterwards, so I'm sure you're being wise. And easier advice given than taken for many of us, I know. So...your dog knew who he was vying with for attention? :lmao:

Patricia: Welcome! Keep posting, tell us what's going on. We love new blood, er, friends! :cheer2:

Allyson: How's W4 of C25K going?

As for me: Bleh run today, but got through 5K. I need to check my journal, but I think I have more problems with the Wednesday runs than others. Not sure why--food maybe? :confused3 The midweek crunch? (As opposed to crunches. :rotfl2:)

I did catch Nova: Marathon Challenge on our local PBS station last night. Did anyone else see it. It was pretty interesting, I thought.

Here's the blurb and website: In the summer of 2006, an assortment of very different individuals came together to form a quirky sports team. Not one of them was a hard-core runner; some couldn't even make it through a mile, yet all were determined to train for the Boston Marathon. Fortunately, they had the guidance of veteran coach Don Megerle of Tufts University and superstar marathoner Uta Pippig.

Fire: I really don't get the :bride: and I kinda giggle to myself about it.

Also I think that :snooty: is weird also.

Just putting my 2cents in.

She's a bride :bride:

I am going to watch the Boston Marathon Monday! You know almost my whole life I lived about 2 towns over from Hopkinton where it starts and I have NEVER gone to see it! So Monday the kids and I are going with my friend and her kids. I now live an hour from the start but her Dad lives there and we'll park at his place. I'm excited, I've never seen the start of a marathon!

Allyson :)

Frank it is. 2nd Sole is nice. I actually prefer the Fleet Feet in Northfield. It is a trek but I have just had good experiences with them.
Love the Northfield Fleet Feet too. Owners are really nice. I've NEVER had a bad experience there.

Patricia, Welcome to the WISH Team! All ya gotta do is post up and share your training and other tidbits. Glad you've joined in with us!

I've made it outside three evenings already. I'm so loving this weather. Even trained in my skirtsports skirt tonight. Such a girly thing.

Going to read things I've missed this week.

Debra - Nice to see you've got the cookies on the mind, and let me tell you they are every bit as good as you dream them to be :goodvibes: As for the ice cream analysis, I decided to start with myself...vanilla...but all I could come up with was bland, boring and lacking fun and variety...so I scrapped the project. :rotfl: Oh, and I saw the Nova special last year...thought it was pretty interesting...I loved the stuff in the beginning with the machine assessment of the people. I think it just proves that size & shape mean nothing, for some it comes easier than others and there is no real prerequisite. Wow, long shout out to you here...good thing DIS doesn't charge for space used!! BTW, good to have you back!! (oh and thanks for posting in my blog!)

Frank
- Welcome aboard! Super fast times there buddy!!

TXAng - good job getting out there despite the wind...i can take heat, cold, rain and snow, but that wind is the worst!

PJ - Welcome!

Maura - Whew, I'm glad I don't have the only dog in the world that loves to snag personal belongings and turn it into a game of chase the pup.

Tracy
- massage and a hair cut, now that's the way to spend a rest day!! (um, what about the cookies and/or ice cream??)

Morgan
- Hope the massage went well today!!

Shout out break - Geeze!! How many people got massages today and why did I not get this memo?? Ugh...communication, people, communication!!

Claire
- "a skate"...rollerblading? I see a lot of people doing that on the trail down here and they always look like they are having a blast! (unlike the runners who seem to always be out of breath and in pain...why did we choose this sport again?)

Angie - Please take care of your back. Definitely check out the core thread as Amy's pilates advice can really help those lower back muscles...I had back issues as well and she gives great advice on what to do and what not to do :goodvibes:

Krista - how are you feeling?? Gotta say once again that i LOVE the room and LOVE the terrible toddler towel. Great job getting out there for those walks!! Tell Mr. "too busy with work and baby prep" that we said hello. :rotfl:

Becky
- Sweet runs! Gotta be feeling good about the Minnie! I think we're supposed to be slouches after the Goofy...I honestly don't think that doing a full marathon two weeks after the Goofy is a good idea. They recommend a few weeks off after each marathon (let alone a half and full back to back)...but I will say that they medal they offer is so cool!!

Carrie
- :rotfl: your license plate story had me cracking up, good idea to scrap that one!!

Amy
- I'm SO THERE to help you bake!! Warning: Baking for Dummies is WAY advanced for me, maybe I'd be better off as a taste tester? :) I'm really proud of you for taking some time off, I know how very difficult it is for you to force rest upon yourself but I really think it's gonna do you a lot of good. Only two weeks left until we get some stress free fun in WDW so just hang in there...dinner and a massage is on me ;) (extra long massage if you bring cookies...LOL!)

To everyone I missed - I'm sorry!! This is the most active I've seen this thread in a long time...so great though to have so many nice people around! Take care of the injuries, get lots of rest and happy training to all!

Scott's World
- *singing theme song from Wayne's World "Scott's World...Scott's World...party time...excellent..."* Ok, ok, last night I opted for the FC and a ride on the elliptical for 30 minutes. I just was not feeling the run and I think I made the right choice. My legs felt fresh and good to go today, and that resulted in a really nice 6.7 mile run through my 'hood. The weather was beautiful so I just maintained a nice pace and zoned out thinking about how much fun WDW is gonna be in two weeks!!

I hope everyone has a great night!!

Jeff – Love the screen names on the shirt!

My friend Mooshu ordered our Eye2Eye shirts with our Avatar names instead of our real names. Cool idea! So keep an eye out for Mooshu and Mkymsehi racing by. (Oops, I just found out she opted to use our real names, oh well, next order)

That was a great idea!

Cecilia No more injuries/bad stuff allowed in your house. We are going to enlist a few Disney fairies to cast some happy spells. Hope your son feels better soon.

Patricia Welcome--to the "happiest running/walking group on earth" (to paraphrase)

Everyone else Thanks for your encouraging words on my enforced rest--keep 'em coming! I went out today, after a week off, and ran 3 miles on the TM. I am unhappy to report that things don't seem to have improved too much. So now I am adjusting my goals for Minnie (meaning--throwing them out the window) and figuring out what I can do over the next two weeks that won't aggravate things, but will hopefully let me run the race.

The "injury" (still in denial) isn't so bad that I can't run, and I will probably give it all I have at Minnie and suffer the consequences after. I'm feeling slightly bummed about putting in months of good, hard work and then not feeling 100% for my very first race. This was a personal challenge for me, and while I can be proud of the "journey", what I really want is the "destination" (and the bling).

End of feeling sorry for myself. Need to keep things in perspective--some of you are going through worse things personally.

Maura

PJ - You just joined! Welcome to WISH Team!!!! Manyu of us started right where you are. Be carful, though, thsi can become addiciting! So, WHere are you in training? DO you have a schedule? My dh and I started with 20 mintes od walk 4 min, run 1 min adn that seemed like the longest minute in teh world. In less than a year, though, we ran, yes ran, our first marathon. While I don't recommend such an intense plan as that, we were a little nuts. Just wanted to let you know that we all had to atart at the beginning. Look forward to hearing how things go for oyu!

Frank - lol. I woudl have gone fro a founding father too! :bride:

Maura - I've been following the "rest cure". Oh, wait, that was suposed to be for the people injured? :rolleyes1 Glad you rescued your shirt!

Debra - lol. Dh watched part of that and was horrified. He won't watch again. He saw so many things that people were doign wrong and no one corrected them. Not sure when he became the expert. Here's a better one. Chocolate CHip COokie Ice Cream sanwiches. Talk about combining the best things in life!

TXAng - Thanks for teh  BTW, I haven't seen a percentage full counter on teh SN RnR website. I guess I just assumed I would. I see fro another RnR that it's not full and they just listed a registration closing date. I think I saw that registration fees fro SA go go up at some point. August?

Made the mistake of laying down on teh couch when I got home yesterday. Yeah, didn't move much from there.

Morning everyone!

Wow, pretty busy here yesterday. Will catch up later but if you'd indulge me for a moment...:goodvibes

DS (19) applied to Manchester Univ (yes in Manchester UK) and got his offer letter! He's majoring in Modern European Languages. He's fluent in German, will second major in Italian and minor in Japanese (already been studying that). Will also get to spend one semester attending school in each of the countries. Going to be a great experience for him and of course as Mom, I will have to go along in Sept to check things out, be sure all is right and then visit from time to time.

Ok, thanks for that and now back to your regularly scheduled posts....

Welcome! :cheer2: I am pretty new here too, just this year and people are very welcoming and encouraging. Just jump in!

Allyson

Allyson,

Thanks for the warm welcome. I already feel good about joining.

Patricia: Welcome! Keep posting, tell us what's going on. We love new blood, er, friends! :cheer2:

Thanks for making me feel welcome! :goodvibes

Patricia – :welcome: You'll love it here.

I got out today and did W1D2 of the C25K. It was crazy windy! Sean did really well - didn't seem too bothered by the wind, but I was tired by the end of it! 1.86 miles in 28:50.

Thanks for the welcome. Can you tell me what the part right above means? W1D2 of the C25K?

Hey, everybody!!! Spring has finally found it's way to Cincinnati--70 today and 75 tomorrow. :woohoo: :woohoo: Rain and in the 60's on Saturday, but we won't think about that right now.

Debra--I forgot to congratulate you on going to a straight run. That's awesome!!! I still do r/w (well, I did), before I got pregnant I was doing like r7/w1. For the record, my favorite ice cream is cookies and cream, if we're talking specific brands: Ben and Jerry's NY Super Fudge Crunch or Chubby Hubby and Cold Stone Creamery Birthday Cake Remix. Ice cream is my favorite food. :)

Scott--I'm glad you had rested legs for your run. It's amazing how much of a difference that can make. I'm still really jealous that everyone is going to WDW and we have to stay home. :sad1: Have a Grand Marnier slush for me!!!! Thanks for everything you've said about the baby's room, I love it too! I insisted on framing the Terrible Towel, I couldn't stand the thought of the towel just pinned up on the wall. There has to be some class, you know? ;)

TX Ang--So Sean is already your training partner?? We have to invest in a jogging stroller, although we won't be able to use it until the spring. I wonder how much fun it's going to be to run with the stroller in one hand and Hines' leash in the other? Sounds like an accident waiting to happen! Have you ventured to the mall yet? I wonder how many times you and Sean will get attacked by the little old ladies while trying to get your walk in.

Angie--I am so excited for you and your new job. I know you're going to love it. Good luck on your last 2 days at work, I know it's going to be hard for you to leave.

Frank--I don't think I ever welcomed you! Sorry!! :welcome: I think OH has the strongest presence on the Wish board with you and Morgan here now. Off the top of my head we have 5 Buckeyes now :goodvibes

Amy--Did I miss the cookie recipe?? I didn't see it posted anywhere. ;)

Maura--Do you have a Lab too? That sounds just like Hines, everything is a game to him. Great job resting, believe me it will make a difference for Minnie.

Patricia--:welcome:

I don't have any training to report from last night, I was just so tired. It's so weird how some days I'm   and other days I'm fighting sleep. I already promised Hines a walk when I get home for work, so I'm definitely doing 3 miles tonight. :thumbsup2

I guess I'll post for Stephen since he is apparently too busy for us. :snooty: He is doing his first sprint distance tri on Saturday, he's done other tri's with running, biking, and canoeing, but this one is a real tri with running, biking, swimming. I'll be sure to take pictures to share with everyone!

Oh, one more thing, Carrie and all other scrapbookers have you guys scrapped any marathons yet? I haven't worked on my scrapbook in probably 3 years, but with the baby coming, I've been bitten by the bug again. I replinished all of my supplies last weekend and my pics for the marathon 2007 should be ready today. I'm wondering if you could share your layout ideas, either on this thread or PM me or we can start another thread. I have 3 die casts, one I ordered (Marathon 26.2) and 2 I had custom made on a scrapbooking website (Half Marathon 13.1 and Goofy Challenge 39.3). I'm just trying to figure out how to put it all together and could use some good ideas!

I'll be back in a little bit, I love that our team is coming back together again. :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes
