Wk of April 13 - WISH Walking/Running Club

But I live with DOOD, and my inner-guy taps into his outer-guy....

Dude, you owe me a new laptop. I don't know if mine's gonna work anymore with the Diet Pepsi I just spit allover the screen :lmao:

Christa...:wizard: for your mom.

Amy...dude...two words...REST DAY. ;) Seriously, your schedule worries me a bit. I know your base fitness level is likely higher than anyone else's on the team, but you're putting a lot of hours on your body.

Zach...great race! Your mom and dad are pretty fab racers too!

Carrie...do you think the Chi techniques helped with your PR?

When is the San Antonio RnR? We're doing the Va Beach...isn't there a special medal if you do more than one?

I have a confession to make...I think I like running. :ssst: I remember Kevin asking awhile back if you liked the running or the feeling afterward...I was definitely someone who liked better how I felt after a run than during. Something recently has clicked for me and running just feels right. I hope it's not just the weather...my best runs have come at temp in the 60s. We're not likely to see much more of that after this week. Anyway, 4 miles tonight at 47:13. First mile was 11:25, not my fastest ever, but not bad for R4/W2. I may hit sub 11s consistently when I get back to R4/W1.

Wow, okay.. let's see if I can keep up with all this! :rotfl:

Allyson: Congrats on W3 of C25k! I swear that was the best program I've ever followed. You'll do great!

Carol, whatever gets you out the door! My Nike+ motivates me soo much because I love the instantaneous feedback. I crave it now!

Christa, GREEN? I may be rethinking my push to DBF to move to Charlotte. I don't know if my allergies could handle it!

Stephanie, can I come visit? I was on the tennis team in HS but I haven't played since. I am itching to get back into the game but I am sure my form is all over the place.

Kristi, go Zach! How adorable! I wish I was running at his age but even as a wee tike I was a couch potato. Good for him!

FireDancer, thanks for the luck! I am really looking forward to it! Was that the Run For Your Life that you did?

Leana, that is a LOT of people!! You could probably stand still in the crowd and just get moved to the finish!

Claire, I hope your test went well!

Liz, I am so jealous of your new bike! You must love it!! I've had my eye on a Trek hybrid for the last year and a half but other things keep stealing my bike money! Good rides to you!

Scott... *drool* I love cookies. LOVE!

Everyone, thank you SOOO much for the encouragement. Sometimes I get worried that the elitist types will look down on me for my 5k excitement, but then I realize that we all started somewhere and for the most part - every racer has been awesome!!

I went out for another 3mil run today. It hurt a little but successful for the most part. I know I am preaching to the choir, but what is it with dog owners sometimes? There was a guy with a very large, sleek doberman who was barking his head off and pulling at his chain to chase after me. And the guy starts telling me that he's a very sweet dog and I should come pet him - um, no, thanks. I love dogs, but I am in the ZONE and that thing looks ready to kill. This was four houses after I got chased by a pitbull who's yard leash was long enough for him to cross on to the tree lawn. Oy!

Maura: Whoa! Is your DH Mr. Incredible or something?

Liz: What kinda bike? Can we see pics?

Scott: So you beg the question: What IS the best cookie that can be consumed?

Scott and Firedancer: Which races are Elite races and what makes them so outstanding?

Carrie and Amy: When where what is Comet?

Amy:Sounds like you need some rest girl!

Debra: Hehe well the date certainly ended with me outta breath and my heart racing ;) . Busy yes, but I manage to crash early and get up late! XT rocks!

Christa: LP LOL! Whew that was quite the runs today! Good luck on helping out it sounds fun.

Mel: Aww there you go gettin all mushy on the runs! :lovestruc

Morgan: Yikes on the dogs! Perhaps a squirt pistol or mace would be a good carry-along?

:hyper2:

Burrrrr it's in the 50's here and rather blustery! Yeah, I know all you northerners would give a tank of gas or two for weather in the 50's, but it feels downright cold compared with our upper 60's to 80's that we've been having. I don't know who's weather we stole this year, but it has been amazing!

I made it through the exam today and even got some work done on the lit. review. Then I walked into Research Methods and was reminded that I had a presentation to do. :scared1: I had prepared the PowerPoint for it earlier in the week and then completely forgot! Oooops! It went okay anyway though. Whew!

I have discovered today that sugar free pudding kinda makes my tongue go numb! I think I'll be sticking with regular if I'm eating it plain from now on.

I guess I'm feeling chit chatty tonight!

Off to the rock wall!

Zack, the next generation of WISHers. Way to go on your race! :thumbsup2

Kudos to everyone who posts back to individuals. I don't know how you do it?!? I can't keep up with everyone's comings and goings, so I'll just continue to post my "Good going everyone" notes.

My Princess #1 continues to train for her upcoming triathlon in May. She's enjoying it so much, I gave her a original WISH shirt to race in. A little big, but she'll definately grow into it soon.

My friend Mooshu ordered our Eye2Eye shirts with our Avatar names instead of our real names. Cool idea! So keep an eye out for Mooshu and Mkymsehi racing by. (Oops, I just found out she opted to use our real names, oh well, next order)

Have a great day (or evening) everyone! Welcome to any newbies to the WISH board.

Way to go! I think that your reasoned it well, but I think you've really clicked into this and have become strong enough to really have fun with it now. I'd say I definitely get that the cooler weather makes a difference for me too. Only I'm not that fast.

Went on the trail today and did 45 min. My mind was not in the game so I just put in the steps and made sure it was at least ahead of the sweepers. I did a 15 min pace for 3 miles. I did do some high knees, butt kicks and sideways stepping as I was moving just to push my luck a bit and keep it difficult for me.

Kristi, tell Zach GREAT JOB! I love that he did an event.

Oh, more SA R'n'R recruitees!!!

The Heavy Medal series (Must be completed in same calendar year)
http://www.eliteracing.com/heavy_medals.html

VA + SA 1/2 = 26.2 Musical Miles medal

Any R'n'R marathon + SA 1/2 Marathon (or other way around) = I Rocked 39.3 Miles medal

Pat and I are going for the Dynamic Duet (Liberty Bell) medal by doing Philadelphia 1/2 and then San Antonio. Do we get the musical miles one, too??
:cool1:  :lmao: :goodvibes Anne

Hey Anne,

I'm going for the Dynamic Duet, too! :) Just waiting for my boss to approve my vacation time for SA.

Terri

Amy

Mental and physical fatigue = recipe for disaster, and you got it. I am sorry, and understand your feeling discouraged, but don't toss the Minnie away just yet.

I've had my share of ups and downs in the past few weeks, and the downs were absolutely due to being just flat tired. You do more physically than anyone, so a rough one was predictable.

You and I are really alike for this 15K. I know if the stars are aligned I could come in just under 9 mpm. I also know if I go out too hard I could implode. Right now my goal is to hit 3 miles in 28 minutes, and see what's in the tank. If I feel it I may push the pace and shoot for that sub-9. If I don't I'll just bring it in.

Mel

"Hello, my name is Mel, and I have a problem. I actually like running." I'm proud of you.

Debra

What is your husband's field? Sometimes I'm bored to tears sitting through presentations in my own field. Sitting through one in another field may be cruel and unusual punishment.

Lily

Keep it up and don't worry about the sweeps. I'm looking forward to dining with you and the group.

Terri

Welcome back. I'm glad you enjoyed my home town and area of the country. It has changed so much over the years, but every time it still feels the same to me, which means the world to me when I go home.

Best to all
Craig

Okay, I need to get caught up with everyone, but I wanted to post the pictures of the baby's nursery while I was on the laptop at home. The room is pretty much finished with what we have so far, Stephen has 3 more bees he has to finish up on, I am so glad that I am banned from painting. :)

Hines loves being in the baby's room. :)

And finally, we got Race Ready shirts in the mail today. Somehow, I don't think mine is quite big enough. ;)

Sorry again that the post is all about me, I'll post something real tomorrow.

Krista

Krista, Carter's new home is adorable! You and Stephen did a great job. It won't be long before he is all snuggled in his beeutiful new digs. Oh, and you look great too!

Yay, Terri!! Oh, I hope it comes to pass!!! I hear there may be some others joining in, too. This is going to me a South Middle USA WISH meet. Chicago was the North Middle USA WISH Meet, we have the DL meet, the Philly meet..goodness, gang, we DO get around!!! :goodvibes

Krists!!!! You look so wonderful!! You and Stephen have done a FANTASTIC job on the baby's room!! Keep behaving yourself!! Thank you SO MUCH for sharing!! :goodvibes Anne

Oh my, another week and I am still behind. You would think that work would figure out there are things that are more important to do. :lmao:

We went to Disney Friday and celebrated Timmy's birthday with breakfast at Hollywood and Vine. Boy the meals there are getting expensive. We then enjoyed the rest of the day at Hollywood Studios. Timmy actually enjoyed the two shows we went to and was enthralled the whole time. That was definately a surprise for us.

I have gotten back to running after the sickness interruption. Saturday was my first long run in a while and it looks like I can be ready for Minnie. I think I am doing an accelerated training schedule for that and hopefully it doesn't bite me later.

For all the Minnie people, it has been really nice here in the mornings but they say that will change soon. I think we have been flirting with record lows around 46 for the past couple of days. Apparently the order for cool weather got mixed up and happened a few weeks early. ;)

Krista - Lynnda had the same comments when it came to painting rooms. Afterwards I figured it was a conspiricy to make the hubby's paint everything. The room looks good and remember what it looks like now all nice and clean. In a few months it will never look that way again. :lmao:

Terri - Hope you are able to make it to SA for the race.

Lily - Good for getting the steps in. Hope it gets easier for you later this week.

Claire - Good job on the test and presentation. I hate when I am told that I have a presentation to give at the last moment. It is even more fun when someone else does the slides you are supposed to present. The Elite races are the Rock and Roll Series with a couple of others. It is another company that sponsors them and they are generally well run.

Morgan - You must look like you are having so much fun, the dogs just want to join you. :rolleyes1

Mel - The cool people were at Disney Friday. ;) We ran into Rhonda and her family at HS. Glad you had a good trip and hope that things are able to calm down at your house for a little bit.

TxAng - Do SA with the rest of us. I would think it will sell out this year since it is the first race. However I don't know what their limits are either.

Christa - Helping with a running clinic, doing shows every week, training for a tri or some other long race, going to work, dealing with kids, boy you are making me tired just looking at your schedule. You really need to market that energy for all the adults out here that need it. :lmao:

Debra - Hope the lecture went well and you didn't snore too loudly. Ice cream is definately a good incentive to behave for a couple of hours. There are several Wish kids that did the kids race this year at Disney and a few others have done longer races during the year. Billy is quite proud of his dino dash 3k shirt he has. Now if we can just convince him it doesn't need to be worn all the time. :lmao:

Amy - Bad run and 9mpm average generally don't go together in the same sentence. Sorry the runs haven't been what you want but that is not a bad time.

Scott - I like your version of rest days although I like the chocolate chip cookies the best.

Judy - Great job on the 6 miles. I figured you would be the ice bath expert by now but make sure you don't lick your hands when the ice is still on it. Bad things happen, not that I would know or anything. :rolleyes1 Although it is easier just to fall in the snow that you had all winter.

Kristi - Great job with Zack running. He is getting alot bigger since I last saw him.

Vic - Nice looking screen. I know of a couple of kids and probably a couple of adults that will be glad to help remove all the dust from the cars. ;) Although you can't comment on any contemporary techniques that are used. For some reason the cars and stuff here don't collect much dust.

Time for work so hope everyone's day goes quickly.

Bill

Krista

You and Steve has done a very nice job indeed preparing for the arrival of Carter. Thank you for posting the pictures, they took me back a few years to when Martha and I were doing the same thing. It's such a wonderful and exciting time, and you'll have so many rewarding moments and years to come as you two share your life with your son. You will be very fortunate to have him come to live with you, and he will be very fortunate indeed to have 2 such kind and loving parents.

Well I gotta go, I cannot walk into class all misty-eyed.

Craig

Krista--Thanks for sharing the pics. The nursery looks wonderful; well, all except the terrible towel bit! And you look awesome! Congrats to you and Steve again!

Soooo for me...:sad2: . I've officially decided to lower my expectations for the 15K. I'm having lots of training related aches and pains.
Rest Amy - I think you are just training too hard. 21 days without a rest day?! I would take a couple of serious rest days and see if it helps. I bet if you look back on your Goofy training you were taking a few more rest days than you have been in the past couple months.

Cecilia:[/B] Once again, you (and Anne) are one of our voices of wisdom, helping keep everything in perspective! :) I can't imagine you not being a marathoner--I kind of assumed you were born that way.
awww :goodvibes Nope, I am a reformed couch potato. hmm, I think computer potato would be a better term. I was a computer junkie before they even had an internet. I was a lot like the Jodie Foster charactor in Nim's Island.
I have a confession to make...I think I like running.
:goodvibes Awww, that is awesome.

Sometimes I get worried that the elitist types will look down on me for my 5k excitement, but then I realize that we all started somewhere and for the most part - every racer has been awesome!!
Some of the runners here are more experienced, but everyone here is aware that we are only runners if we keep stepping out the door. I am thrilled that you are excited about your 5k & I am thrilled that you are here sharing that excitement. It helps me get out the door.

I gotta go run now...

Krista--Love your nursery! It looks so adorable! I remember those days of preparing a nursery, ahhhh how sweet! Enjoy this time!

Mel--I guess there is hope than that someday I too can love running! LOL! I think it is great that it has evolved to something you are truly enjoying! Good for you! And when you write R4/W2 does that mean throughout your run you run for 4 minutes and walk for 2 and alternate?

Morgan--Yes the dogs can be scary. I love dogs and am a dog owner myself but when it is an unfamiliar dog barking in that "I want to eat you" not the "Come play with me" tone, well I'm not liking that!

Lily---Good job out on the trail!

Debra---How was the lecture, or more importantly the ice cream after?

As for me....

I DID WEEK FOUR TODAY! I DID IT!

DH and I went out and I can't believe I did the whole thing, without stopping OR dying! I had my WISH shirt on for the first time (the original T) and I think it gave me the energy to do it. I had the vibes of all these people who have been where I am before (way at the beginning) and I just stuck with it, my ankles were hurting and 5 minutes of running seemed v-e-r-y long but I am PROUD to say I did it!

On the last 5 minutes DH was gone, I mean way ahead of me, on the next street but I just said that was okay. I have to run at the pace I can, which is not at the pace he can, and that is OKAY.

I'm going to go have a good day now! Truly, thank you all for being so encouraging to new folks like me. You barely know me yet your words really do inspire and help me think I can do this. It means alot.

Allyson

Bill

How funny how age changes things...as a child I was thought of as hyper:yay: now I am energetic...:rotfl:
Looking back and knowing what I know now, I may have had ADHD!:confused3 I think I still do..but I call it JRT mode! (named after my running partner who is a JRT dog.)

I will tri to catch up later...gotta run now...really, I'm going for a run.:woohoo:

Good morning!

Krista - love the nursery!

Debra - so how was the lecture?

Mel - DH has reached that point recently and never thought he would. I love walking and hope to become "addicted" as well soon.

Claire - good job on the test and getting thru the oops presentation.

Morgan - Yeah, "come pet the dog" while it's straining at the leash not the brightest idea. Love dogs but it is scary when they act like that.

To everyone - HEY!!!

Can't remember who I first read mentioning the Chi Walking/Running but to anyone who did - THANK YOU!! :flower3:

Did 4.22 miles yesterday w/o stopping, no shin pain and my best time so far! First 2.11 were at 15.8 mpm; second 2.11 at 15.0 mpm! I was soo thrilled. The entire 4 miles at right around the 15 mark and w/o pain. That for me is a big deal. The Chi technique seems to be the form best for me and yesterday was the first time using it and it shows. Believe me....I noticed....

Sorry to run on about it, but I was really excited last night and am now looking forward to Saturday's 10K and the Minnie even more!

Mel: I like your pace! Perhaps we could chit chat a bit during the half?!

Jeff: What does [who is?]"Mkymsehi" mean? Is this DD's first tri? How long is each leg [of the tri, not of DD!]?

Lily: Hehe are you one of the people who are entertaining to watch? (kicking your bum, walking like a crab, marching...) I'm definitely too embarrassed to do anything beyond speed intervals. Might have something to do with falling whenever I try to do the fancy stuff!

Krista: Aww I love the room! What does the towel in the frame say? (terrible toddler towel) Hines looks like he has found his protective niche there. Now be sure not to pull a Lady and the Tramp on him. :) And you are so cute in your shirt!

Bill: Hollywood and Vine getting expensive! It already qualified! But it's Disney. Any special stuff for the birthday boy at the Studios?

Allyson: Alright!!! :cheer2: Great job on stepping it up. Definitely the WISH shirt makes a difference!

princess:

We need a Goofy '09 for our siggies! How on earth do you make those things?

I'm off for some speed play before I settle in to read long stuffy research reports--bleh!
