Wk of April 13 - WISH Walking/Running Club

GOOD MORNING TEAM!!!

I am SOOOOOOOOOO mad right now:mad: I have literally spent the last 2 hours in between working responding to everyone since Tuesday, I was ALMOST done, then I LOST IT!!!!!!!

So I want to say for now;

Patricia WELCOME!!! :welcome:

Training report:
Last night --- 5 miles 46.5 minutes and Body Pump

I miss being here on regular basis and I CAN NOT WAIT FOR MINNIE!!!!!

Everyone else Thanks for your encouraging words on my enforced rest--keep 'em coming! I went out today, after a week off, and ran 3 miles on the TM. I am unhappy to report that things don't seem to have improved too much. So now I am adjusting my goals for Minnie (meaning--throwing them out the window) and figuring out what I can do over the next two weeks that won't aggravate things, but will hopefully let me run the race.

Maura - Oh no, you are still having problems? Did you try getting a massage? It was your shin that was bothering you, right?

Well, I have vacation on the brain. I can't wait to leave for Vancouver this afternoon! I am all packed and ready to go, dinner reservations have been made, and a 4 mi route picked out and mapped for tomorrow. Yesterday I got in 4 mi around my neighborhood. The first mile was okay, but the second one was awful. Things improved slightly for the rest of the run. Here's hoping the low altitude and flat running surface in Vancouver does me some good!

Frank: I'm amazed--it's the same temp here. Tho our humidity is 77% Isn't it funny how we become loyal and devoted fans of "our" running store? I always thought :bride: was a bride. Speaking of weird smilies what do these things have on their heads? :dance3:

Morgan: Sounds like you might want to give your knees a day off there! Hmm yoga in 80 F during the summer? Sounds nice and cool!

Maura: Good job on getting the rest in. I think we need to create a "Rest Metal". What's more motivating than a little bling? :) Oh wait....Chocolate!  Don't hurt yourself during the race.

Patricia: :welcome: To answer your question: "W1D2 of the C25K" translates to "week one, day two of the couch to 5K program". It took me a while to figure out "C25K" when I first saw it b/c I kept seeing 25 as a number! It's a program that takes you from little/no running/walking experience to running your first 5K (about 3 miles, and one of the most common race distances).

TXAng: Roller blading around the lake paths (bringin it back babe bringing it back! :upsidedow ). I've actually a handful of people stop me to ask where to get skates and many comment "oh what a fun idea" or "i wanna do that" or such. I would love to do more ice skating but I live in Louisiana and there is one tiny rink only open part of the year here. If you don't mind my asking, do you have a name? Isn't it amazing how much harder it can be in the wind?

Debra: You should move down here for the never ending summers... *snorts*. I think I eat more ice cream during the "winter" though--summers are for snowballs (sno cones)! BTW anytime you utter the words "just the marathon" you are officially insane! And, yes, I'm following the HP Lexicon story. My mom found the site a few years back and loves it. She's been saying for years that he should publish it. She actually thought about printing it all out because she doesn't like having to read from a screen but there is so much there. I can see both sides of the story, but I think Rowling (fyi--rhymes with 'bowling' not 'howling')could still publish her encyclopedia even with this out there. And she brought a lot more attention to it by raising a stink. What all is in your protein bars? The NOVA show sounds really interesting!

Scott: I second the massage memo--I missed it and I want one! I love my rest days (that's when I skate), especially when there is a 5K going on (like every Saturday!) and I get to hear all the comments from runners, though more often it's from walkers! I've noticed more and more skaters recently on the paths and we also are having more people on these weird two footed squiggle things that I cant remember the name of. You swing your legs in a skating pattern and hold handlebars and it makes them go forward. They look fun and I want to try one! Thinking on WDW-- now that sounds like a good run!

Scott and Amy: ooo I wanna taste test too....I'm a connoisseur of cookie dough (actually I prefer it to cookies!)(most of the time).

Carrie: "we were a little nuts" *snorts* a "little"??? What all did DH catch on the NOVA show? and "Chocolate CHip COokie Ice Cream sanwiches" :stitch: --I'm there! ooo I've never seen the little paper bag smiley before, where is he?
bagovermyhead.gif

Liz: party: Congrats for you and your son! What an awesome place to go to school. How did he learn German and Japanese? He must be one of those people that languages come easier for! I think this calls for a celebratory trip to EPCOT so he can practice! And, of course, the predicted question: what is he planning on doing with with that (after college)?

Krista: mmm we have similar ice cream tastes! :mickeybar Except I don't like peanut butter so Chubby Hubby is all yours. And I see women all the time pushing a jogging stroller with dog jogging along, so it can be done!

Amy and Krista: Cookie Recipe?!?! :figment:

:stitch2:

Amazingly, I am not sore from riding/flying yesterday! I'm a little tight, but nothing compared with last week.

I got back my scores from the Praxis test (teacher certification) in English and I passed the 7th-12th grade English test!!! :flower:

I'm off for a nice 6 miler, then back to the lit. review :sad2:

Happy running/resting/jogging/wogging/walking/XT! :cool1:

Krista - Here's my Minnie book. http://flickr.com/photos/18266525@N02/sets/72157604052230742/ I'll try to take a few pix of my favorite marathon layouts. I have about 10 pages of Garmin prints out from trianng the first year. Theya re a bit dry. :rotfl: I tend to be pretty simple with things, though.

Claire - Congrats on teh test. I stole teh
bagovermyhead.gif
from another board  It fits em so well so often, though, that I copied it to my photobucket.

Liz - COngratulations!!!

Holy speed reading batman...this thread is FLYING this week....are we excited for the Minnie and other upcoming races???

OK...gonna' try to catch up here..

Angie: Another fabulous run girl!!! And body pump right after...:worship: GREAT workout. How is your back? Oh...I found a studio for you btw...I'll pm you later. Not sure if their class schedule will be a good match for your work schedule though :(. But anyway, you can check them out if you get a chance. They are in Bradenton.

Patricia: WELCOME!

Krista: Please tell Stephen we're wishing him the best of luck on his Sprint Tri! I think I'm doing one in August...still kind of freaked out about the swim part though. Have him post his race report if he can this weekend . Have a nice walk tonight with Hines!!! :goodvibes

Allyson: Ohhh...I meant to congratulate you on your C25K training! It's coming along great :). Can't wait to hear your report on the Boston Marathon...how exciting!!!!

Maura:  Oh my....I'm sorry you are still dealing with an injury. During the '07 marathon training I was injured in November and never was able to run until marathon day. It was a struggle...but sometimes those races, where we perservere, are the sweetest in memory. Hang tough...I really think you're going to be ok despite missing some runs before the Minnie. You've got this! Just don't stress.

Liz: :cheer2: CONGRATS to your son! Fantastic news. He sounds like one bright kid!

Carrie: I had planned to take yoga this morning....I'm still on the couch ;). I'm taking my rest orders VERY seriously LOL!

Judy: Sounds like you're overtraining...in the housework/project department. I insist you take a rest from all things manual labor ;).

Jen: OMG...your children are just the cutest!!!

Debra:  You are the sweetest. Thanks for being such a ray of sunshine here! Honestly...you make me laugh and make me say "awwww" a lot. Thanks for that...it's greatly appreciated. And I had to go back and re-read the monkey post....:rotfl: sounds like an episode of "monkeys gone wild Spring Break 08". Thanks for the huge laugh on that one...missed it the first time around somehow.

Scott..the Scottster....Scottomatic....Great run (again...*snooze*). I'm getting bored with telling you how awesome your training is going. So....just once....you s*ck. LOL. KIDDING!!! OK...so maybe your help in the kitchen would be more detramental to the cookie baking process? I think I remember once reading something the tag fairy left you about "blowing up a mixer" or something along those lines. Yeah....how about you just be the taster! :thumbsup2 So when are you going for your sports massage with Inga...remember that joke? Trust me...it's not all it's cracked up to be. It is TORTURE!!!! OHHHH...and btw....you are anything but vanilla buddy! :goodvibes

COOKIES: OK ...I have a secret :rolleyes1 (and no...it's NOT slice and bake)....but almost as bad. Shhh...come closer.....it's just the Toll House Cookie Recipe. :rotfl: Sorry Scott...I know you thought it was some specially passed down, super secret recipe that exists only in one copy on parchment paper. But..ummm...no.... it's just the Toll House Recipe. :rotfl2: Sorry guys :). I do happen to have an amazing family recipe for the best peanut butter cookies EVER. Yumm-O as RaeRay would say. But unfortunately I don't have any new tricks for the chocolate chip version.

As for me....aside from pirating cookie recipes like David Cook singing Billy Jean (a little Idol reference ;) ). I rested, went to the torture chamber, errr, sports massage therapist yesterday. Today I do plan on running 5 Miles. Sooo wish me luck :). I also hope to take a pilates class later before teaching my class this evening. I may report back since you all will be waiting with bated breath on my report  . I know...this was one honkin' long post today. But whew...you guys are tough to keep up with! Have a great day everyone.

AMy - Ut oh, I must eb rubbing off on oyu! Good job on your rest. Love teh new avatar too!

PJ - Welcome!

Thanks for the welcome.

PJ - You just joined! Welcome to WISH Team!!!! Manyu of us started right where you are. Be carful, though, thsi can become addiciting! So, WHere are you in training? DO you have a schedule? My dh and I started with 20 mintes od walk 4 min, run 1 min adn that seemed like the longest minute in teh world. In less than a year, though, we ran, yes ran, our first marathon. While I don't recommend such an intense plan as that, we were a little nuts. Just wanted to let you know that we all had to atart at the beginning. Look forward to hearing how things go for oyu!

Wow you worked up to a marathon in a year, thats amazing. Here I was thinkning I could jump right in and do a 5K next week. I figured out this am that I was really kidding my self, lol. I have a great Dis friend who I work out with four mornings a week and she does the disney races and shes going to help me work up to the 5k. (who knows maybe a bigger race later, lol).

Oh my goodness, I cannot believe how welcome I feel here! Thanks to all of you. I was trying to reply to each, but it has become overwhelming. I can't wait to learn more about you and to let you know how I am doing.

PJ - Yes, we were up to a marathon in a year, but we have no kids and dedicated our lives to running that year. That being said, it was 4 months before we ran 2 miles without walking. Don't feel bad about needing more than a week to get ready for a 5k!

I'm baaaack...I promise this will be a more condensed version. But in the process of creating my epic post....two of my girls posted and I need to shout out! ;)

Claire: :yay: :cheer2: :cool1: For passing the Praxis!!! WTG!!! The roller blading looks like SOOO much fun. But after an unfortunate meeting with the ice last year during an ice skating party, I'm best off sticking with the shoes that don't move on their own. And WHAT are these guys...they TOTALLY creep me out???? :dance3: I won't EVEN mention this ----> :clown: !!!

Leana: Have a GREAT vacation in Vancouver!!!! :goodvibes And it's good luck to have a bad run before a race. I swear!!!

Good morning Team.

Just wanted to check in and let you all know I am around lurking.

I know this is kind of generic, but sending my best to all of those with injuries and illnesses that you recover quickly.

Congrats to all who have been participating in events and getting in your workouts in. Know that you are an inspiration to those of us who are trying.

Welcome to all the new WISHers.

I also wanted to thank those who respond to and summarize others' posts (like Original Bill, Amy, Scott, DKP, Claire and others). The Cliff Notes versions of posts are helpful when I'm short on time and trying to catch up.

Things have been up and down lately for me and I am still trying to formulate a consistant training plan between walking, core work and some stregnth training while keeping the body functional. Of course, this job stuff tends to get in the way some and running the four kids around does take some time too. Luckily swimming has ended, basketball has ended (2 DD on the undefeated, championship rec league team) and gymnastics meets have ended (although DD gymnast had to scratch from the state meet due to a back injury a few days before (she is starting to recover already)-but she still went to support her team even though it was 4 hours from home (I couldn't tell her not to be a good teammate after she said she wanted to be there)). The bad news, soccer starts this week and swimming starts again in a couple of weeks (they have a break of about 5 weeks between the winter season and the summer season). DS also has become a hockey fanatic, so I may have to look into adding that to the mix next winter.

As difficult as it may be, its looking more and more like I may have to become an early morning workout person. Does anyone have suggestions on how to convert from a night owl to a morning person without too much pain?

Take care all.

Bill - I am a nigth owl who has been living like a morning person for a while. not fro work outs, but I get to work by 7:30 am every mnorning. To some extent, you just have to do it. Get up early and you will be tired earlier. When you're tired, go to bed. As a night owl, if you stay up longer, you will get a second wind and will never get to bed. ZThe more you get up early, teh more your body will change it's sleep schedule. There is pain in that alram going of, not way around it. It gets better, though.

But unfortunately I don't have any new tricks for the chocolate chip version.

Anybody else reminded of the Friends episode when Phoebe's grandma died and Phoebe was upset because her grandma never wrote down her cookie recipe? It ended up being the Nestle Tollhouse recipe. :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Amy--Oh, how much do you love David Cook? He is by far my favorite idol ever, with Chris Daughtry coming in 2nd. I'm glad you are getting some rest in!

Claire--Congrats on passing your Praxis!!!!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: Like I said, I have a sister who has a degree in ele ed and I lived with 3 education majors in college, so I know what a big deal that is. :thumbsup2

Liz--That is awesome about your son! You must be so proud of him. I can't even imagine how excited he must be right now.

Carrie--Thanks for the Minnie pages. I wish I had some marathon paper, that is pretty sweet!! I know I saved the course map, some of the stuff in the goody bags, and our mylar blankets, I'll find that stuff and put it in the mix. I am so excited to get started again!

NE Bill--If you find the secret, let me know. I have a feeling once Lil' Bit gets here, my night owl days are over! Good to see you again!

Leana--Have a great trip! Can't wait to read your race report.

Krista

So I'm back (eating lunch) and I've wrapped up my pity-party.

Liz Yeah for your son. My DD (also brilliant-like your son must be!) is now a freshman and I'm sure will be overseas studying as soon as she gets a chance. Now you can scope out races internationally!

Leana I hadn't tried massage, but now have a call in to get an appointment with the massage group affiliated with my local running store. Only problem--they are all serious runners and one of the massage therapists is running in the Olympic trials this weekend, so no appointments til next week!

Amy Your cookie recipe reminds me of the episode of Friends (my guilty evening pleasure, even though I have now seen every episode at least 5 times) where Phoebe was going to give Monica her grandmother's secret recipe, which was from her French relative "Nestle Tollhouse"--pronounced Nes-LAY To-LOUZ Krista Just saw your post! Great minds (or at least Friends-watchers) think alike! And yes, my dog Buddy is mostly Lab.

Bill I'm one of those trained morning people who gets up at 5 am to get to the gym by 5:30 and then to work by 7. My idea of sleeping in is 7:30 am. It took awhile and it's not because I necessarily want to get up that early, it's just that LTO otherwise. I do go to bed by 9:30 (okay, if I can stay awake that long--sometimes it's 9 or on really bad days-8:30!) No real secrets to pass along other than preparing things you need the night before (eliminates excuses for getting out of bed) Hope you find what works for you, just don't shortchange your sleep.

Anyway, time to finish eating!

Maura

Krista - For my first marathon, one page was just covered in a cut out of the mylar. The mickey logo fit pretty well on a 12x12.

I am glad I am not the only one who thought of Nestlay Toulouse! :lmao: Friends has also ruined me for trifles.. "What's not to like? Custard.. good. Jam.. good. Meat? GOOOOOOD" :lmao:

PJ - Yes, we were up to a marathon in a year, but we have no kids and dedicated our lives to running that year. That being said, it was 4 months before we ran 2 miles without walking. Don't feel bad about needing more than a week to get ready for a 5k!

Thanks Carrie, I am going to start tomorrow on the couch to 5k info. Hopefully since I've been working out (for the first time in my life) for the past five weeks, faithfully, I hope that the first week or two isnt' too bad and soon I'll be 'running/jogging/walking fast', something more than I can do.

Oh goodie, I am starting that tomorrow!!!! yippe, I'll have 'numbers to post' LOL. thansk for explaining this.

Debra – “Oh, you didn’t have a very good time?” What?? That’s not right. :sad1: 2010 in ink. Got it. Sorry you had a yucky 5K – I think it definitely has something to do with it being Wednesday.

Allyson – How cool! Hope y’all have a great time!

Lily – Yay for nice weather! Glad you’ve been able to get out and enjoy it.

Scott – What is your new avatar? Also, now I have the Wayne’s World theme running through my head over and over. Thanks a lot.

Maura – Oh, no! I was so hoping that you’d be feeling better.

Carrie – Yes, I think it does increase after August. We’ll probably sign up within the next month or so I think. Hey, sometimes you just need a night to crash on the couch! I LOVE your Minnie scrapbook!

Liz – Congrats to your DS!! That’s so exciting!!

Patricia – I see that Claire already answered your question: C25K is the Couch to 5K plan. Best of luck to you as you start tomorrow! Can't wait to hear how it goes.

Krista – We found a travel system where the car seat can snap into the jog stroller, so you can use it pretty much right away. Of course, Sean hasn’t really been too happy about being stuck in the stroller for more than about 10 minutes until about two or three weeks ago, but it’s still way better than waiting until he’s 6 months old to use a regular jogger (which this stroller is – you just pop the car seat off and there you go).
I didn’t know you were into scrapping! I’ve got a couple of pages from our first (and only, so far) 5K last year. I’ll try to get them scanned in for you.

Leana – Have a great trip to Vancouver! Take lots of photos!

Claire – Ooh, rollerblading. DH and I used to rollerblade a little bit, but I was never that great at it. I’d have to run into things to stop. Oh, my name is Ang. I keep meaning to add it to my sig line!

Bill – Hi! I’ve got no advice on the night owl thing. I’ve TRIED to be a morning person for years now, and it just never works. Left to my own devices, I always end up reverting back to night owl-ness.

Oh goodie, I am starting that tomorrow!!!! yippe, I'll have 'numbers to post' LOL. thansk for explaining this.

You can do it! Best of luck tomorrow! I am on W4, did D2W4 today. I started a while ago and did W1,2,and 3 each for two weeks. I needed to as I didn't feel ready to move on. You do what feels best for you! I will say I was so stinkin' proud of myself today for doing it without stopping. Something I *never* could have a done a few months ago.

I use a podcast that I discovered via this board. It is at http://www.ullreys.com/robert/Podcasts/index.html and I love them. There is one for each week and he'll tell you when it time to run, when it is time to walk and offer encouragement along the way.

Allyson :)
