I'll do another half marathon from Georgetown to Idaho Springs. These are all in Colorado, so if anyone wants to join me please do. :) I need to be prepared for the WDW marathon....26.2 miles...man that's alot of miles.

I saw an official Boston Marathon 100th (1996) jacket in perfect condition, size M for $3.99. I fawned over it for a moment and put it back on the rack. There's no way I could ever wear it, I'd feel like a poser...

For $3.99, I am glad it picked it up in the end, good for you! Is it something that you could run in? windproof?

Oh I wish I could do the Chicago race this year. Too close to DL. Maybe next year.

I forgot to tell you guys , at the expo yesterday for the Country Music Marathon they had some logo socks made up from "The Sock Guy" Isnt this who Dave is getting our socks from? They were very well made & looked like good running socks so I think we are all going to love them.

Kevin-congrats for getting done with finals. I remember what a big relief that is!

Minnie- :wizard: for your back. I used to have alot of back problems & they are the worst.

Have a great weekend everyone!!!!

:thumbsup2 for everyone that is getting out there and moving forward. :grouphug: for everyone that is working thru their bumps (physically and mentally).

I have only run a couple times in the last 2 weeks, since my pavement dive. They were short but did a good job sticking to the 8 run/2 walk. However, I think someone is trying to tell me something...this morning I got a back spasm so bad it dropped me to the floor. Needless to say I can't stand up straight or sit without pain. I'm sure it will take 4-5 days to let go. So I have had to face the fact that I will be walking the Indy Mini (1/2) on 5/7. It really helps to know there are others out their going thru their own trials during training. Glad we have 9 months to get everything worked out.

Have a great weekend. :cheer2:

Hey Guys! I have a question....

The weekend before the marathon is New Years. My extended family wants to do a weekend in Vermont for New Years and do a little skiing, relaxing etc. Do you think it's wise for me to go away that weekend...in terms of training and prep for the marathon? Since it's regular vacation time, it doesn't impact our ability to take off some days for Disney so that's not an issue. I'm just worried that it will throw off my schedule right before I run?!

The good news is the hotel has a fitness center with a treadmill! That's actually GREAT b/c I don't have a treadmill, meaning I usually have to run in the cold, windy weather that time of year. I'll be on taper so my runs won't be long. And I wouldn't go crazy skiing...maybe just take it easy and relax as much as possible. Anyway, I'm just worried. Please offer any advice! THANKS!!

Amy - The week before is fairly light. SHould not be a problem, as long as you get your rest oand do not eat too badly.

Wayyyy past bedtime. Bonus home day tomorrow. Going to try fo 7, but it will be solo, so we'll see how I hold up.

Good Morning Everyone: :surfweb:

Boy the weather's been beautiful here lately. A little cold, but very, very sunny. Feels good to get outside. Let's see, I had my appointment with the PT yesterday. He gave me some more exercises for strengthening my shins. I'll try to write a longer post later and describe some of the exercises (or see if I can find some links that describe them better than I can). I also ran at the end of the day. I picked up the princesses, DD5 princess: and DD8 princess:, and we went to a local park. We each get a "walkie talkie" communicator, and they play on the playground while I run the 0.8 mile crushed gravel loop around the perimeter. I ran 3.0 miles in 33 min (11mpm). I was doing about 9 min run/1 min walk intervals. It felt OK. I still have some aches in the shins, but I ice them down as soon as I can after the run and it's OK. This morning I'm going to run with my "Learn to Run" group. We'll see how I do. It's been 2 weeks since I've been able to run with them.

Cool! Yep ::yes::, "The Sock Guy" is the same company that's making our socks. Oh, I'm glad they looked like good socks to you. I've gotten a couple of pairs from them, and I'm happy with the socks.

Hi Amy :wave2:. I agree with what Carrie said. Not that I have any experience with it, but it seems like the week before the marathon is a big taper week and you would be cutting back on your running anyhow. I would want to make sure I got to bed early and got a lot of rest. And I probably wouldn't want to do too much skiing, but I guess if you're doing it all along and your muscles are used to it that wouldn't be that big of a deal either. And yeah, make sure you don't over indulge with your eating, but I guess that's going to go for all of us over the holidays too. But a trip to Vermont should be doable.

PD :wizard: :wizard: to everyone's bumps and bruises. Here's to everyone getting out and just putting one foot in front of the other.

Ya, but I would feel like such a poser!!!!!! The big question is who would part with such a thing??? My only theory is a disgruntled SO tossed it out! (no, I didn't say SOB!!!!! :lmao: )

I think I found the source of my hip pain. Duh! I've been taking DS out bike riding. He's still on training wheels and a bit too wobly on busy streets so I end up guiding his bike with my right hand on his handle bars while I run. So I'm running crooked over to the right side. Hmmmm, right hip pain starts simultaneously????? I guess I don't need Dr. Lynn to diagnose! :rotfl2:

Oh and Dave, you could try my MO for getting SO to the WDW marathon... I signed him up for the half and he doesn't even know it yet :rotfl: I hope he doesn't lurk here and discover my dark secret! I'm just hoping an opportunity arises sometime between now and oh say, October to smoothly slip it into a conversation!!!!!

Sunny-- Yeah, I totally would have picked up that jacket too. :teeth: That said, if someday I get the opportunity to run the Boston Marathon, you better believe I will never, ever get rid of my nice windbreaker. (Much like the Disney one I purchased.) ;)

Amy-- I am going to disagree slightly with the advice given to you so far. One of the things to be aware of during your taper is that you don't want to do anything in terms of training that you haven't done before, and the closer you get to the race, the more important that becomes. So, if you will be on the roads for your training in NJ, I think that hitting the treadmill the week before, if you haven't been using it up to that point, could be a mistake. For me personally, if I haven't been running on a treadmill regularly, I get weird little pangs in my shins, my knees, etc.... and you don't want to have that happen the week before. So my advice is: Go, have fun. If you can get outside and run or walk, great! If the weather or time doesn't permit, that's OK (After all, you are skiing and that is a fairly active pursuit.) Just relax, get in what you can and don't overdo it. (Just my .02 however....)

I want to shoot for seven miles today, but I won't be getting out until this afternoon. The house looks like a tornado hit it and I have to take care of that in addition to recovering from the Worst. Dinner. Party. Ever. last night.

OK, have a great day!
