Wk of Apr 23--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

Morning Everyone,

Well, I went last night to the little get together - Time went by so fast, we (me and a couple of the other girls) left a half hour before the get together ended. I just wish that they would have done this on a Friday, instead of the middle of the week but everyone really enjoyed themselves.

Tonight, I hope to get in a run but don't know for sure. I am going to WW and I may be too tired to do it by the time that I get home. Thank god, I don't have to weigh in :goodvibes.

Well, have a great day everyone!

Jodi

MelR- Yeah for dual suspension! It will increase your technical riding skills greatly because you will be thinking that the suspension will soak it up and ride over alot more stuff than you would with a hardtail. At least that was my experience. Especially helpful on downhills. If EC heckles, just heckle her back:)

Been swimming, biking, running. Last weekend was the longest ride and run in prep for the May 21 Half Ironman race at the World. Did 81.97 miles on the bike on Friday and then ran 14 miles in the rain on Saturday. Leave tomorrow afternoon for Tampa/St Pete. My swim wave doesn't start until 0830 and the first pros are expected to finish at 0850. There are waves including all 4 TnT waves that are after mine too. I'm a little worried about the heat on the run. Maybe by racing this weekend in St Pete and the Minnie 15K the following weekend, I'll have a little heat acclimation when I hit the HIM which I'm actually training/tapering for.

Dave, hope you can make the commitment soon. You can always tell your DW what my DW did - she does not want to take DD and DS out of school for 2 days and she simply said, "I know how important this is for you so just go ahead and do it." At first I thought she was upset with me but she continued to reassure me that she is not and actually opened up the website for me to sign up. Not being one to look a gift horse in the mouth, I registered for the Goofy. Now my DW is actually talking about the possibility of joining me if she can find someone to watch the kids for the weekend.

Amy, I belong to a running club - since 1999 - and at first I was very intimidated by the speed of some of the runners. However, once I started running with them I found that I was actually a lot faster than more than half the club and there were people running everything from 6 minute pace up to 12 or 13 minute pace. The attitude is that as long as you are here we will support you - no one is looked down upon. It is a great motivator.

I also am an aluminus of TnT and most likely will be a mentor (director asked me on Monday) for the Disney marathon team this year. What do you want to know about the program?

I have a question for all the Garminites. Do any of you loose the signal if running on trails and then not have the milage made up once the signal is found again? I ask because last night - during my 6 mile club run - we were ruinning about 2 miles on trails and I kept looking at the Garmin and it was reading 3.1 miles for about 10 mins. I know I lost over a mile of training distance because the course has been measured at 6 miles and change but the Garmin said 4.99 miles.

goofyguy - If your trail had twists or turns, when the signal caught up, it would be straight line distance. That's all I can think of that would skew it

Rachel - Welcome! Good luck on that surgery! Yikes! That's an awful long wait!

MelR - I'm a slacker adn most certainly not SUnny, but it seems like a break every now and then would be really good for teh muscles. Thanks fro showing us you're human! ;)

Cam - Way tp get back at it. Doesn't it feel good?

Kristy - Cold irritating things makes sense to me, but have no actual knowledge of that. :wizard:

jodi - Glad you had a good time!

Connie - If it's a choice btwn Minnie and Marathon Weekend, I think you made the right choice. At least we can commisserate on teh Minnie. :p

Lynne - Good to see you! Sounds like you've been working hard! Fit any school in there? ;)

OK, my schedule was insane last night, but I fit Curves in anyway. I'll run again toninght and have 4 workouts in for the week. Good thing, as I'll be gone alllllll day Saturday again. Nice to at least be mostly in the groove again, though.

Judy - Where are you ???????????

Hello, hello everyone. Yes, I am still here. Minnie, you doll, thanks for noticing I haven't been around. Today was (and still is) Take Your Children To Work Day, and I am one of only three people on the planning commitee. We had 250 kids here today. Needless to say, this is pretty much all I've been working on all week.

Right now...I am just plain shot. I am exhausted! OMG, this was a lot of work! This is the 8th year I've helped organize it, and this was the hardest one yet!

But...now it is over.

I wish I had been posting because actually my training is going very well. I started doing some intervals, which is very exciting for me. I feel like I am starting to make some real progress. I feel like all my time doing my standard 45 min on the TM has paid off in that I have a pretty good foundation from which to train. So, I'm getting there. :teeth: I should be ready in...ohhh...eight months or so. :lmao:

I miss everyone so much! I feel so out of touch with you all.

I should be back to normal Monday. I'll need tomorrow to catch up on all the "real" work I haven't done.

Thanks again, Minnie! :flower:

Judy

I have missed you guys so much! I am reassured by Judy's post that I am not the only one that's been MIA. :smooth: Work has kept me way too busy lately. Here's a quick summary of my past month:

work, more work, travel for work, more work, no time to train for MS150 bike ride, no time to run/walk, soccer games, work, not able to participate in MS150 bike ride because of work (but raised $900 for MS Society), stomach virus for DDs, 2 speeches to 140+ people, and, you guessed it, more work

On Monday I finally returned to the gym and did run3/walk2 for 30 minutes. I have scheduled my training for the DL 1/2 marathon and the WDW full marathon. I am going to do the run/walk program from Marathoning for Mortals. I have a relay marathon on May 20th. My leg of the marathon is only 4 miles. I returned to the gym on Tuesday and did WL and the elliptical machine for 25 minutes. Yesterday was a rest day. I had to work this morning, but I hope to get in a run/walk tonight. We are having unseasonably cool temps here. All you northerners will get a kick out of my DD's comment this morning when we walked outside and it was 60 degrees: "Mom, it's freezing!"

Hopefully I will be able to read back a bit and get caught up. At least I finally had a minute to post. Keep training everyone! :yay:

Hi guys- I had midterms last week and I am not going to attempt to read the thread from last week. I am finally able to start working out again after the mass chaos that the test caused.

Please let me know if I missed anything major. I will be reading this weeks thread tomorrow morning. (working today & I am at lunch)

Greetings All: I just called the information number for the WDW Marathon, and they said they were just under 40% capacity for the Full Marathon.

Carrie- I'm in denial about school ;) From Monday until the end of the systems portion of the school year, there are 8 class days. We have exams on 6 of them: the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 8th, and 10th. We then do ACLS(Advanced Cardiac Life Support) for 2 days(no problem- done it before as a paramedic) and then it's 3 weeks of Capstone/Clinical Decision Making. That's only 18 hours of commitment over 3 weeks so plenty of time to study and train. Study- why do that? The school year is over, isn't it? Ahhh, but we physician wannabee types have these little exams we refer to as the Boards. Their full names are things like US Medical Licensing Exam Step 1. I'm taking both the osteopathic Boards(COMLEX- June 28) and the USMLE(July 3). So school=denial right now.

Judy- glad to have you back and to hear that training is going well again.

Heather- Too bad about your MS150. Maybe you can do one later in the year? Yes, I would have made fun of your daughters for their cold comment. It was 50 when we went riding today.

Since I've worked out today, it must be time to participate in activities related to that thing that shall not be mentioned. We're doing endocrine- i should get Mel/chimera to take the exam for me:)

Lynne - Wow. You've got my head spinning. I can see where denial comes in handy. Good luck on those peices of wood. ;) ;) ;)

Judy, Cleste and Heather - Good to se you all back!!!!!

I did 40 minutes tonight. Neither dh or me felt overly spectacular but had teh best pace of the week. We'll call this a gift and enjoy! :teeth:

Have a great weekend everyone!

Carrie - thanks for giving me a guilt free no weights pass!

Lynn - Best wishes on your boards and the races coming up. did you consider my offer to meet me in s. arkansas in AUGUST for a 1/2 ironman???? I would like some company! You could consider it a training event

I was planning on a ride followed by a run. I went to the Nat. Military pk and after I got all ready to ride, I realized I forgot my running shoes. I ended up riding the whole time. I got in 32.66 miles and would have liked to do more, but I ran out of time.

Hi guys - long time no type, wish I could tell you I"d been off on my travels, but no, just swamped with work and something had to give...

Glad to see everyone is still doing so well, I'm still getting out there though I haven't run for over an hour for weeks, I'm enjoying the break - but know that in about a month I have to start cranking things up ready to train for DL. I'll start checking in a bit more readily then too, it's hard when you don't have anything specific to train for when everyone else is so motivated, you feel really lazy!!

Also, has everyone has got their certificates yet cos I haven't and I want it (cue tantrum face). Well that's my lot, it's the first time I've been able to finish work at 5pm in three weeks and so I'm heading away from the computer and up to the sofa (gym was this morning so have already moved today). Helen

Calling all Atlanta area DISers!!!! Did you know there is going to be an innaugural Georgia Marathon(and 1/2) next March?!?!?!? It is starting & finishing at Underground and I talked to the lady & no, "cardiac hill" that is in the Peachtree RR is not in this route :thumbsup2 Me & mom are from ATL so I am thinking we will be doing this one, she wanted to do Peachtree next year, but I would much rather do this "smaller" event. (only 15,000 compared to 55,000 at Peachtree RR :lmao: ) It's March 25th and looks to be a really cool event.

We went to the expo last night in Nashville for the Country Music Marathon (DS is doing the kids marathon) and it was pretty good. That's how I found out about the GA Mary. I was there in the race atmosphere wishing I was doing this event. Although there's no way 1 week before the Minnie but it is a really well done event. There are tons of bands along the route & cheerleaders. DS is very excited to be getting his marathon medal tomorrow.

Heather-so sorry you wont be able to do the MS150 I know you were really wanting to do that. I'm not sure I'm going to be able to do the tri I was planning on , I'll have to see how it is after I get back from the Minnie. Not much time off before I have to start back training for DL

Helen-good to "see" you again

Lynne-good luck with all those "little quizes" you have coming up :goodvibes I'm sure you'll ace them :wizard: And you have St. Pete, Minnie & IM almost all in a row too- you rock!

Judy-good to "see" you again too. It feels good when your training is getting you somewhere doesn't it. WTG!!!! :cool1:

I'm doing my LR today. A whopping 4 miles  Don't ya love the taper!

Morning Everyone,

TGIF!!! :thumbsup2

Nothing new to report - I will be running tonight when I get home.....I'm looking forward to it.

I just realized this morning.......My first 5k is not too far away! I just hope I can improve on my time a little bit. I should be able to :goodvibes .

Well, I will check in with all of you later - I just wanted to drop by and say "Hello"

Jodi

Good morning! :wave2: It's finally Friday! I did 30 minutes of run3/walk2 last night. It was tough, but I managed to do 2 miles in 30:48. Not a bad time for just starting on the run/walk. It is frustrating that I can actually go faster doing a walk3/run2, but I know that over time my speed will pick up as my body adjusts to running for a longer period of time. I just have to keep reminding myself that this is about endurance, not speed. I already have the speed to avoid the sweepers, now I just have to build the endurance to run/walk for 26.2 miles. I am going to try a long run of 3 miles tomorrow. Maybe I better re-read John Bingham's book "No Need for Speed" to remind myself that speed is not important.

Lynne - Just because I know you understand I have to say - I have one whole week off of classes!!!!!!!!!! My program allows for 4 week off a year so I enjoy them whole heartedly when I get them :cool1:

First week off in a long time and just what I need before starting grad level Stats. Anyone good with math here? I'm very scared

My back has been giving me fits again so I have a chiro apt for this afternoon. We are supposed to have crappy weather all weekend but will try to get back on the dreadmill.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!!!!!

Good morning all!! I'm b-a-a-a-a-c-k!

Helen-- Glad to see you back!!!

Paul-- I will PM you about ABQ soon. I have a list of questions, all of which are at home right now....

Lynne-- Yikes. I will never complain about my school schedule again. (Ok, maybe I will.... but a lot less. Ok, slightly less... :teeth: )

It sounds like everyone else is doing just wonderfully with their training. Don't feel guilty about those days off. If you've been training, you earned them!

In personal news, I'm DONE   with exams!!
I feel like I did well-- which makes the whole waiting game for grades to come out that much tougher. We'll just have to see how things shake out when all is said and done.

Strangely enough, this has been one of my best weeks of training so far since the marathon. I've done nearly ten miles between Monday, Tuesday and Thursday (somewhere around 9:30/mile pace overall) and even a crosstraining day Wednesday. I think it actually helped matters-- it certainly relaxed me when I needed it. I'm hoping to do 6 or 7 miles tomorrow and then we'll see about Sunday.

I should catch up on some work...
Happy training all!
Kevin (Solotraveler) :earsboy:

I’ve been wanting to say and keep forgetting, Mel—thank you so much for starting our weekly threads and keeping up with the links AND the DIS names in alpha order. That is so helpful to me!

MelR and DH enjoy your teaching. You have a lot of experience to share.

Judy, Heather, Celeste, Helen! Hi!

Judy, I am proud of your progress. It is great to read.

Heather, great to see you have planned out your training to get you to the marathon in January. It is a sound plan. Oh and for sure :lmao: at your daughter’s comment. It is going to BE 60º here and I am thrilled and will be in shorts/t-shirt wogging my way. :jump:

Helen, sorry you’ve been so busy with all work stuff. I haven’t heard of anyone else complaining that they have not received their certificate this late. Hope yours comes soon.

Lynne, good luck with all that is on your plate. I know you will do great!

Suzy, hope that you can get the aches under control. I “feel” some of your pain. ;(

Yay! for all on school breaks. Enjoy whatever time you have.

DH and I might go for a bike ride and then dinner stop along the way. The ride for us is not a race pace thing. I plan on another “easy” time of it. My first easy ride this season with my GF was 22 miles…let’s see what we can do today—no time for 22 for sure.

ETA: I just posted a question to the "Garmin" thread. I'm looking for assistance from any "Garmin-ite" that can give me a push.

MelR-- looks like Carrie got you off the hook, I'm gonna have to talk to her about that ;) :rotfl2: JK, rest is good sometimes.

Who's got hip pain? I do, too, big time. I can't quite figure out where it is, its more a med. glute pain. Sometimes I can't lift my right leg enough to put on pants. If I drop my kneck down (looking down to the ground) it pulls something awful.

Dr. Lynn?????? Please advise! Sorry to hear you school sched. is sooo busy!

Colleen-- Congrats on signing up for Chicago. I wish I could join you and your 40K friends ;)

I did something really silly yesterday. I went to a thrift shop (that part isn't silly, its my new smart idea). I saw an official Boston Marathon 100th (1996) jacket in perfect condition, size M for $3.99. I fawned over it for a moment and put it back on the rack. There's no way I could ever wear it, I'd feel like a poser... But at the end of my shopping trip, I rushed back over and scooped it up. Now I have a BM jacket in my closet that I can never wear!!!! :rotfl2: Maybe I will wear it to bed and it will bring me there one day!!!!
