Wk of Apr 22--WISH Walking/Running Club

Krista - Yuck on teh humidity! I put my toes on teh wall, heel on teh floor and pull myself to the wall fro my claves. That's teh best one. Legs crossed andtouching your teos is food too. Yay fo SHari's bp boing down. Let us know when you hear how the surgery goes! Two thougths on her: 1. OSUnds liek she needs WISH. MAybe not this board yet, but the main one will give her the support she needs. If she chooses to r/w, I'd love to see her here. 2. She sounds iek a great Curves candidate. It's fun adn social and great to get started. Plus, they have 6-week weight loss classes that teach nutrition. Similar to South Beach. Just a thought. :grouphug:

Nancy - Yes, sunscreen is good. DOn't use anythign on your face that you have no used on a lr befor, though. Stinging eyes would stink! 4 miles ont eh TM in a hot gym? Ewww.... Good for you for getting those steps in anyway!

Just pulled up my Nike+ info from this morning.
I got my third session for the week in today cause I'm doing Field Day tomorrow at my daughters' school. Hopefully, it won't be a mud pit!

I had to run 3, walk 2 for a total of 45 minutes. I ended up going 3.62 miles with an average pace of 12:27. It was very humid, but I lucked out and the raindrops didn't start until I was cooling down. Overall, it wasn't too difficult for me - but my legs felt like lead or something when I first started. :confused3

Sooo, week 3 of 13 completed!
week 1 - 7.18 miles / 13:27 average pace
week 2 - 9.12 miles / 12:35 average pace
week 3 - 10.59 miles / 12:24 average pace

Good news is I woke up this morning with my headache gone! I'm praying it stays that way!

Hope everyone has a great day today! :goodvibes

Shan - Legs like lead typically mean they're tired. Not hydrating enough can cause that too. Water helps to wash away the lactic acid build up.

Good morning everyone!

10 3-minute rounds with the heavy bag last night. The bag won by a split decision.

Mike(Optimator) - Welcome back!

Stephanie, Jackie and Nancy - Great job with the 4 milers.

Andrew - Sounds like the training is going well. Sorry about the LTO deal.

Dave - Great job with both runs.

Carri - Take care of the leg.

Krista - Glad to hear your sister is doing better. Great job with the 6 miler. The boys are doing fine. Earnhardt is on a diet, the chunky butt, and he's not real happy about it. Dusty, the wild man, is well, Dusty. :) Hoping Hines is doing well.

The foot is getting better. It's always something. We'll see how it reacts to running a 5K this Saturday.

Lisa - Glad you got new batteries!

Shan - Great job with the 3+ miler!

Take care.

:)

Nancy and Jeanne--Good luck on your half on Saturday!!! I love both of your spirits and how support each other every step of the way. Definitely use sun screen and reapply every 2 hours. For the marathon, I filled a sandwich baggie with sun screen and a 2nd baggie with Body Glide and put both baggies in my running pouch so I had both on hand when I needed them. That was a life saver!!!

Nancy--Did you meet Jerome Bettis? I would love to meet him and Hines Ward. If I ever meet Hines Ward, we might have to use Kristi's GGD's Jail Fund!

Carrie--I will definitely suggest Curves and the Wish boards to Shari. I've thought about finding a half marathon with a very forgiving time and having all 4 of my sisters and me walk it together. Something next spring or summer might be nice.

Shan--You are on a roll!!! Seriously, the first few weeks are the hardest, but soon you'll get to the point where walking/running will be so ingrained to your schedule that you'll just do it. Doesn't mean that you want to do it, but you will because that's what you do. I'm glad that the headaches are easing up for you, when I go cold turkey off of caffeine, it's not a pretty sight! pirate:

As a matter of fact I have two MREs under my desk.

Vic, aren't you a married man???? :confused3

Now Judy, are you insinuating that Vic's DW is a lousy cook, or where you pulling an "OptiMike" and turning MRE into an "unDis-like" acronym?:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Dave-- There is no way I exerted more energy in my 80min swog than you did in you 30. The pool environment can vary dramatically depending on how crowded it is and how many people are slapping water instead of swimming. During my swog there were very few swimmers, all making tranquil trickle-like sounds with their strokes. To top it off, the life guard, who was very young and covered in tatoos (my assumption then being "tough") was playing some sort of Chinese bamboo flute music! I was zoning out and forgetting to exert any energy for many moments.

Vic-- I'll have to tell my Dad you actually like his food. His was a thankless job. He poured his heart and soul into that Hooah bar and it never made it to the fields. It was sold off to become a commercial product. Have you ever had the "shelf-stable" deli sandwich? Let Subway try to make a sub that is shelf-stable for several decade!:rotfl:

Keeping consistent, I did 7.3 for my 8 miler last night.

Sunny

ETA: The life guard wasn't actually playing a bamboo flute, it was a CD!

for what it's worth, I RAN for .25 mile last night, my longest actual "run" so far...that's with no stopping, no gasping for air, and no pain in my legs...

I did a total of 3 miles, just so you dont think I'm a total loser...

Hi Everyone,

I ran an easy 3 miles yesterday and my quad was feeling much better. I guess the rest helped. One more run this week before my 10K on Sunday.

Cam, Dave and Krista: Thanks for sharing your Mickey pictures. I loved them.

Carrie: I think it's great you and DH can run together. I would never even try it with my DH, he's a sprinter and I'm there for the long haul. I hope your leg gets better soon.

Krista: Best wishes to your sister. Good job getting your LR done.

Andrew: Good job on the training. Glad your legs weren't sore.

Dave: I'm glad your run with DD6 was good.

Lisa: Good for you for getting back to training so soon after delivery, especially given the size of that baby!! He almost outweighed my twins combined (5lb10oz and 6lb1oz).

Nancy: Good job on the w/o despite the heat in the gym.

That's it for now. Have to get back to work.

Best Wishes to everyone.
Cindy

Hey all... DD is back at daycare today. All the nebulizer treatments finally kicked in and her wheezing is down dramatically. She was so excited to go because it is crazy hair day. I wish I would have taken a picture, she was so cute.

Today my cross training is walking around the Business Expo picking up freebies. Can't wait!!!

Krista - So glad that your sister is doing better. I agree with Carrie, Curves or the Weight Loss WISH board would be great for her. Also, our YMCA has a program called Commit To Fit where they do 6 or 8 weeks of training with you to get you going on a fitness/weight loss program.

My foot is still a little achey. I am hoping to tape it up and do my LR of at least 8 miles tomorrow night. I am a little nervous, but I figure I have to at least try.

I would love to meet him and Hines Ward. If I ever meet Hines Ward, we might have to use Kristi's GGD's Jail Fund!
Hey! Get your stinkin' hands of my GGDs Jail Fund, woman! ;) :rotfl:
I have at least 2 more shows on the horizon...

I am glad your sister is doing better! That prednisone works wonders, but makes you gain weight like crazy. Has your sister tried Weight Watchers? I swear by them and I know alot of WISHers do also.

HaHa!!!! I think I'm all caught up on reading posts.

Krista - Your sister is in my thoughts and prayers.

I did skim some, so I think I missed lots of funny stuff, which i'm bummed about!

I'm going to a big outdoor festival w/ the outdoor/bike shop where i work this weekend. Phil and i are putting on an orienteering race. I've been mapping again this week. I did mt. bike twice this week, but am foregoing the run today as I will get some exercise in this weekend and I'm getting this house ready for a dog we adopted from the shelter. She had to be spayed b/4 the let us bring her home, so we are getting her today! She seemed pretty playful and healthy at the shelter, so I'm hoping for a faithful running partner soon!

Cam - as for being calm about the spider, I have to admit i was quite proud of myself for being able to catch it and take it in!! I even forced all of phil's coworkers to acknowledge my bravery and calmness!!:rotfl2: My natural response in crisis is to slow down and be very calm! (that made me terrible at changing boys diapers when he was a screaming infant!)

As far as the spider bite update, I suppose either it was not poisionous to me or it was a "dry" bite, b/c I haven't had any noticable effects! The day it happened, i took it up to phil clinic to the dr. who is pretty much the spider dude. He told me he thought it would be ok, but if my finger started looking bad then we could send the spider up to the university. I asked him what that would do for me and my finger and he told me I would be contributing to medical science:confused3 :rotfl:

Christa - good luck on your fast 5k!

Stephanie - thanks for thinking of me when you ran over the BDB!!! I was telling someone yesterday at work about the mean girls tri this past summer and I'm thinking if you and Christa really come, it will be bigger and more fun!!!

OK - better go clean house to get it ready for the new dog. (I'm sure she'll appreciate it and will not contribute to the mess around here at all!! right??)

ETA: The life guard wasn't actually playing a bamboo flute, it was a CD!

Sunny-I must have missed this referrence but playing the bamboo flute sounds like a naughty Chinese euphamism!:rotfl:

Shan- Great job on your run/walks!

Lisa- I'm home/cyber schooling my DDs and they made some Phoenician cylinder seals earlier this year. They had a good time and enjoyed 'priniting' with them.

Krista- More :wizard: for your sister.

Dave- Glad your DD are still enjoying the running. I'm loving sharing something that I really enjoy w/ mine, too.

I'm going to do 4 miles on the TM today while DD is at her Girls on the Run this afternoon. I'm typing it now to make myself HAVE to do it later. Otherwise I would slack off.

Kiena

Melissa--Maybe you can change your name to Peter Parker!! :rotfl: Do you know what mix of breeds your new dog is? You'll have to post pictures of her! I can testify that dogs make GREAT running partners. :goodvibes

Kristi--:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: I'm not sure if Shari's done WW before, she probably has in the past. I wish she lived closer, it would be so much easier if she wasn't an hour away. I'd gladly get her body moving!! And Mom would help her figure out what to eat, my Mom's lost 40lbs on Jenny Craig since last fall. :woohoo:

Jen--I'm so glad your daughter is feeling better! I wish we had crazy hair day at work, how much fun would that be??

Angie/Pungo--:woohoo: :woohoo: That's fantastic!!! :woohoo:

Good job, Angie!!! A quarter mile is awesome! I'm so jealous you can run. I originally tried to incorporate a litle jogging in my training to vary the muscle group and speed up the pace, but after giving birth to 4 children, I could tell the "girls" and the bladder were not going to cooperate. So between trying to control the 2 sacks of potatoes in the front and the little trickle trail in the back, I decided to revert back to walking only.

Good morning Racing Team -

The Minnie excitement is getting crazy! :yay: Ohh this is so much fun! :dance3:

Did 45 @ 4.0 @ 1% this morning. Nothing to write home about but hey, at this point, I'm just glad to do something. Please note: nothing hurt and there was no abnormal heart racing or dizzyness. Well, no more dizzyness than usual.

Yay! Mike's back to his normal, witty, charming, hysterical self! :rotfl: Thanks Kathy! :goodvibes

Dave - Yay! Most excellent day yesterday for both you and DD. :thumbsup2 You truely are fast!

Shan - Oh I'm so glad to hear the headache is gone! And I hope it stays away! :goodvibes

Krista - I'm glad to hear Sheri is doing better. :wizard:

Now Judy, are you insinuating that Vic's DW is a lousy cook, or where you pulling an "OptiMike" and turning MRE into an "unDis-like" acronym

Sunny - Oh I would never say anthing bad about Mrs. Big Vic! And, umm, well....

AngiePD - YAY for you on the running! :woohoo: You GO girl!

Jen - I have "Crazy Hair Day" every day! Glad she's feeling better. I hope it goes well with your taped up foot. :wizard:

Melissa--I love my rescue puppy! But she was untrainable! As I"ve mentioned before--not a good running partner, too ADD for that!

Krista--yeah, I just chuck my hat in the wash after most workouts--it's beginning to shread around the bill. Guess I know what I need to look for at the Minnie expo! I did read an ad in the current Runner's World for a new detergent specifically for getting those icky sweaty smells out of workout gear. Might give that a try

Sunny--lol about the bamboo flute playing!

jeanneg--sacks of potatoes and trickle trail! OMG!:rotfl2:

Angie--no one will ever think you are a loser--don't even begin to think that! WTG on the run!!!

Lisa--WTG getting on the bike!

Went to my class this morning--hoping for mostly yoga--yeah right, today was that hard circuit training stuff-Ugh! Now for my running clinic tonight--hhopefully my quads and hammies will cooperate after this morning's workout!

Oh, and as an aside, I thought of our WISH military members this morning--We are in the flight training patteren of the C130s from the LR Air Force base--the kids think they're totally cool! Gotta run--need to fix some lunch!

Vic, is that what you used to do?

And um, yea...look under your desk.

I have to Google "Hooah". I keep reading is as "Hoohah". :confused3

Hoohah!? You ain't right. :lmao:

I was enlisted aircrew (Radio Operator) on select C-130s for 16 years.

This was my favorite. An MC-130E Combat Talon. I flew on these for 8 years.

Wow....:worship:...and mostly, thanks.
