Kimwim-- :yay: good job on the 2.2 miles!! When is your 5K?

Thanks! My 5K is on August 12th. I might (pretty unsure right now) try out a 4 mile run on July 4th as a test...but I don't know yet. I have to find out when registration is for that one to see when I have to commit! :teeth:

Thanks for all of the support, guys!

Just checking in quickly, as I know I won't be able to again before I'm out of here for vacation Satuday. You know how it is when you have to "clean up" a lot of stuff at work before you go away. Also, this is the first time in over two years that I haven't taken my laptop with me and done at least some of my own work while I'm on vacation...

Thanks for all the words of encouragement regarding my struggle on Monday. I felt much better by that evening. I have to attribute it to pre-vacation stress meltdown. :confused3

Best of luck to everyone on their LR/LW's this weekend. I hope everyone's training continues to go well. Welcome to any newcomers.

Dave - Love the green socks. I did post on the poll.

Nancy - Congrats on making a decision on the Minnie.

TiffJ - Glad to see you back.

Dave - Have lots of fun with the Garmin. I want to bring mine on the cruise

Claire - You go Goofy girl!!

I'll officially be sans computer for nearly 10 days, so I won't be around for a few weeks. Then I promise to come out of lurker mode, as I'll be knee-deep in Minnie training by then. I can't wait to see WISH'ers in May!! :cool1:

Had and ART appt last night for the achilles thing, have another today. I don't think its going to stop me for Boston, but I might not run again until then just to be sure. Only 11 days to go!! If I'm not ready now, I guess 10 days of pool running won't matter!

I have been deep water running my workouts instead, so here's hoping I don't lose much fitness.

I've considered Goofy, but I think I'm out. I have a couple of trips planned and honestly, my body needs some time with no mararthon training. By Memorial Day I'll have done 4 in a year and I think I need a year off of marathon training. Last time I waited that long I had a 24 minute PR.

DAVE: love the socks, but don't want any and what with blustery and cold? Where were you and what time? I'm trying to remember when it was blustery and cold yesterday!!!

KEVIN (and others with sunglasses): Why don't you just put them on the top of your head? I've never even considered carrying them anywhere else and was surprised that people put them in other places.

KERI: the run walk sounds great, its Galloway's method, so it probably works! Its going to be humid, be sure to drink plenty of replacement fluid and have some pretzels/chips the day before or even during the race. The salt will help.

JODI: can you run in the AM to get those 5 mile in? Soon it will be light enough to go at 7PM if you don't mind going late. Or maybe on your lunch? Sometime I run at work instead of waiting til I get home, it seems to make the transition to running faster. If I go home first I tend to dilly dally!

Well, I just wanted to check in and see how everyone was doing. I also wanted to update everyone on the things that have been going on with me and my family. Well, the baby has an appt iwth a specialist on May 2nd, then he will have his hernia surgery 4-6 weeks after that. I have been able to quit smoking yet, however I have cut down from 1 1/2 packs a day to 1/2 pack a day, and I WILL get there eventually. I am still not completely over this cold, but.... I am getting better. I am hoping that by Monday I will be feeling better and finally be able to get back to training. I am gonna have to make sure I take the time and start back slowly. Once I get back to runnin 30 minutes straight I plan on starting this plan, and I wanted to get you guys opinion on it... will some of you take a look at it and let me know what you think? :magnify: please?! Anywho, I am gonna stop rambling now, and I promise to check back in later.

Take Care,
Dana

HI everyone. I don't have time for personals, but wanted to post how I am doing. Last night it was gorgeous outside (for Wisconsin) and I went for a wog before dinner. Hubby was in charge of cooking. I did 2 miles with my dog in 27 minutes. I did walk a little of it. I have to keep this up so I am ready for my 5K in May!

OMG – I am NEVER going to catch up! Let me just send pixiedust: to everyone who has been suffering pain or injury or athsma or loss. I am thinking of each of you, even if I don’t say so individually. And kudos to everyone who has been so disciplined about training. I think this month’s Runners World has an article on finding your mojo – how to get motivated. I may have to go read it – when I can find some energy, of course! :teeth:

I have been overwhelmed at work since my return very late Sunday night. I finally took the time to do a quick trip report on my first day of my trip, and it is here:

Trip Report -- Day One

WOW– I had such an awesome, awesome time. Thank you so much to Nancy and Barry for sharing my very first Moroccan dinner with me Saturday night at Restaurant Marakkesh (and not laughing when I showed you my surprise for Howard – shhhh! Our little secret!). And thank you, Mel and Jeff and Kaley and Lenna, so much for sharing your very precious family time with me at DTD for lunch. BTW, Mel, I also got violently ill with some intestinal thing in the middle of the night Sunday. If work weren’t going to be so insane, I would have had to call out Monday. Instead I just suffered through the day with much time away from my desk. UGH!

I was so excited to share phone time during my trip with Liz (thanks for sharing my wog with me and for “sharing breakfast” with me, Liz!) It was really exciting to get voicemails from Judy and Rhonda, too, but, alas, I had so little battery life on my phone (have to check the warranty) that I didn’t get to make personal calls to anyone but home and Jenn.

Let’s see – so much fabulous news to share – Jenn got into Univ. of Delaware. I hope she never knows how shocked (though thrilled) I was. I still don’t think it is the best choice for her and am worried sick that the competitive academic atmosphere and the enormous campus will overwhelm her, but I have to leave the decision to her, and she is absolutely positive it is where she wants to go.

Andrew’s show opens tomorrow night and he has been fabulous at rehearsals. Those kids (and adults) have been working like crazy since January and we are all so excited to see it come together. His “girlfriend” from performing arts camp last summer is traveling this weekend to stay with us and go to see the show – perhaps both Saturday night and Sunday afternoon, though we are still working on the details.

Howard is busily seeking a new job, but in the meantime, is making our lives so much easier by dealing with absolutely everything that needs to be done outside the craziness of my job, and frees up my mind to deal with work. His full marathon is about 6 ½ weeks away. I hope he is making time to train, especially since it sounds like he will be doing it alone because of medical issues his friend has.

Oh, one more thing – I did almost 3 miles both Friday and Saturday mornings, around the jogging trail at OKW and then the nature trail over to Saratoga Springs. My shuffle wasn’t working Saturday morning, so I really took the time to look around and enjoy the sights and sounds on the nature trail. My hip hurt terribly Friday morning, but I did a lot of hamstring stretching on Saturday before I went out and I think it helped a lot. So, now I am convinced I pulled the hamstring all the way at the top (is that physiologically correct?) and have been aggravating it. I am going to work on stretching it a lot more before each outing.

Dave – Congrats on the Garmin. Enjoy MfM – I think it is awesome! Oh, and I have to check out your sock thread. I definitely want a pair or 2 for when I am not wogging!

Thanks to everyone who missed me. I have really missed you guys! Gonna get back to training. I don’t want to be too much of a drag on Rhonda.

Sunny – so glad to hear work is getting under control. WISH I could say the same!

DAVE: love the socks, but don't want any and what with blustery and cold? Where were you and what time? I'm trying to remember when it was blustery and cold yesterday!!!
Kim - I was running in the Mt Hope Cemetery at 4:00p, it was windy with blowing snow in my face for the entire 3 mile run. Where were you? - because if it was sunny and nice where you were I want to go there. I'm trying to remember if it was still snowing at 5pm when I picked my daughter up. I'm thinking it might have stopped by then.

Started reading from the beginning yesterday morning (and made notes) but didn't get all the way through all the posts and then got busy before I replied so I haven't read all the messages but I wanted to update and send my well wishes. First I want to say congrats to all those who did the Columbus - you all did great. Must have been neat having so many Wisher's in one place!!

For me my first 5K is this Saturday. So I figured I would push myself this past Sat and I did 3 miles in 32:26. I pushed myself too hard the 1st mile (9:05) so I had to walk a bunch of the 2nd mile (12:53) and got a little better on the 3rd mile (10:25) So I know what I won't do on Saturday - LOL. I am happy with my time (since that is a first for me - well I have never had an official time) I also am happy that with that time I will be under Disney's time limit (that has been the main focus of my training - since I am a total newbie and wasn't sure if I could do a mile in under 15 mins.)

Mel - great job on your 5 miles over the weekend. You had some nice splits. Hope you had fun on your day trip to Disney. Sorry you weren't feeling well after.

DisneyGirl - too bad about the hotel with the screaming cheerleaders - we had an experience like that @ CBR in Feb - but it was mainly on the bus (R-O-M-E-O - was all we could hear on that bus ride. I guess they thought it was their personal bus.)

Jodi - I think 11 min miles is good especially considering the distance you did. Hope that ankle feels better soon.

Krista - Wow Hines sounds like a big boy!! Hope he is feeling better. That is great that you walked 8 miles. I am dying with run/walking 3 miles!!

Dave - your girls sound like real cuties!! Glad they had fun at the race.

Judy - Have fun on your cruise.

Kristi - Hope you are feeling better soon.

Jackie - Take it easy on your leg so that you don't hurt yourself worse. Sorry that you are not being able to do the 5k this weekend but you want to be fresh for the Minnie!!

Clair - Great job on your long run Friday and how nice of you to help out in NOLA. Trust me I am still not liking this time change. I was used to getting up @ 6AM and running by 6:30 and now I am dragging to get up by 6:45 - and I tried running after work but its just to darn hot!! I did make progress this AM and got up right at 6:45 and made it out the door for my run this morning - so much cooler!!

Dana - wishing the baby well with his surgery. I will be praying for him. Good for you that you have been able to cut back on the cigs. Slow and steady and you will have it kicked!!

Oh I just wanted to add on more bit of EXCITING news - I am booked at Wilderness Lodge for our trip in May (couldn't find anything the weekend of the Minnie so we are going the weekend after - really the 12th through the 14th since DH's SAP ends on the 15th.) I can finally get started on my overcompulsive planning!! YEAH

Cam- one thing I noticed when running on the OKW and SSR trails last time we were there in March is that the surfaces are predominantly concrete. Ummm- that's the worst possible surface to run on according to the article in Runner's World. I ended up w/ the bad knee being swollen from the increased pounding. Now, the amazing thing is that I did 30 miles on those same trails in December and then another 15 on this past trip and it wasn't until the second run of 6 miles that I paid attention to the surface and had my aha moment about the surface. Anyway, the point is that it may have contributed to your hip hurting. I know the swelling in my knee went away when I returned to running on asphalt.

Thanks for the idea, Lynne. The interesting thing is that the paths I was on were paved -- it really helped distinguish them from other roads, so you'd know what to follow. I did notice that the paths along the golf course had yard markers (small metal triangles) sticking up in the middle of the path, so that golfers could determine the length of their drives. I was thinking how dangerous those would be to joggers who might be distracted. I actually thought my hip would hurt worse walking around the parks all day, but I think once the hamstring gets stretched a bit, it gets better. I definitely need to work on this before the Minnie. :cool1:

I think we are going to be there then too :cool1: Our date are 5/13-5/15. We too checked on the Minnie weekend but room are basically gone for that.
We still do not know where we are staying yet. When we go in July we are doing a BC/WL split stay. I'm sure you will  the WL!!! It is our favorite :thumbsup2

Hi WISH Team!

Eek! I don't believe that the week is almost over and I am just posting on this thread. It can't be true.

I've managed to read, but as has already been said by many b4 me. I cannot possibly respond to all.

I'm in "recovery" mode this week. I am enjoying that all too much--not doing a durn thing.
:teeth:
It is a nice day here sunny and 50's so I might stroll after work, might.

Oh, I can't pass up the opportunity though to respond to anyone about Garmin vs MP3. Garmin baby all the way! Congrats to all the new owners.

Enjoy your work out everyone. You can do it!

Hi guys!

Wow...I've been away too long. Sorry I can't get to everyone.

Cam.....Yeah :cheer2: for your DD that she got in U of D. My alma mater :teeth: . Glad you had a good time at WDW!!!

Kim....A belated welcome  . I'm so glad you have joined us here on the thread. You really are doing great girl! :cheer2: Can't wait to run the 5K with you in August :grouphug: .

Dana....PD for your baby's operation! And congrats on working on the smoking. I know it's tough...especially now. But good for you!!!

Everyone else...soooo sorry if I missed you. My life has been crazy busy this week and I've been sick (still). But I'm back on meds for this nasty sinus infection. Haven't trained in.....THREE DAYS....it's killing me!!! I want to get out there so badly...I feel like a lazy bum  . I feel like I've lost so much in these three days. I know that isn't true...but I'll only run one day this week :(. Bummer.

Kim - aha, now you'd think that would be the most logical sunglass storage place now wouldn't you, so did I - until a particularly interesting point about 8 miles into a half where I tried to pull them down over my eyes only to find that the last 90 mins of running had caused about 20 hairs to wrap themselves in tiny, tiny circles around the nosebuddy bits - and would not untangle. I squinted my way through the next 5 miles, then spent about 10 minutes with running buddy pulling my hair to get them off. Heaven knows what the marathon would have done so down the sports bra they go. Helen

ICK - I had the most discouraging run!!! I still don't know if I'm going to sign up for the 50miler. I have to make a decision by monday. Anyway, I've basically done 2 marathons and one ultra (50k) to train. I have been training a lot for the adventure races as well, so i've done a lot of mountain biking and just basically being out in the woods w/ a map and compass, but I have not had many opportunities to do any single track trail running. I have done lots of gravel road. Anyway, today i had a little time, so i tried to get some in. I covered about 4.5 miles at around a 13.17mpm pace. To finish the 50miler, i have to maintain a pace of 15:37. I just don't know if i can do it. Granted, i will have tapered and i went into todays adventure totally sore from tromping around in the woods and kayaking on tuesday. I'm feeling pretty discouraged about it. I guess i could just sign up (if it works out) and just be happy I get a nice coolmax t-shirt and say i tried. Any ideas????????

Judy - i was thinking aobut you on the trails today (they are multi use trails and someone had been there b/4 me on their horse) I thought, I wish judy were here to keep me company, i'll bet she'd like riding these. Then i thought, i wouldn't want to run behind the horse!!!

Well, if nothing else you've got a good story to tell! My sunglasses don't have those nose parts, just a rubber piece embedded in the plastic. It doesn't stick up enough to get my hair in it. I know exactly what you mean though, and I won't buy sunglasses with those nose things because I can't store them on top of my head! Its not perfect place, they do fog up while up there, but usually they clear up. I'll have to reconsider my sports bra storage options. :cool1:

Good evening all!!

Helen-- With your storage idea, I could run the Minnie with no funny looks!! ;)

Lynne-- My best 100 SCY fly time was 47.43... so hopefully that redeems me in your eyes. ;) I totally hear you about how disconcerting it is to loose all that speed so quickly.

Krista-- I can vouch that Tim and Scott are two different people. At least, I think they were in the same room at the same time..... :confused3

Kim-- Re my sunglass storage needs, it's partically personal preference and partially necessity. First, they drive me BONKERS if up there for too long. Secondly, in Michigan in the late fall/winter a hat is a necessity for an early morning run, so they tend to fall off my head then. Or maybe that's just me... :teeth:

Cam-- Good for you for keeping up your training during your trip!! That's great!! I am loving your trip report too!!

I did 5K in about 28 flat today. The weather turned out beautiful so it was a nice break from my day. I need to come up with a plan for this weekend to make sure I get some quality runs in. Maybe 4 miles Saturday, 5 miles Sunday??

OK, I'm off to bed-
Kevin (Solotraveler) :earsboy:

Warning: this is a vent!

I am conflicted right now! I am registered for the DL 1/2 on Sept. 17th and have been excited to do it. I planned to just go out for the race (leave Fri. morning, take red-eye flight home Sunday night). Can't stay longer because I'm leaving for DW on Oct. 1st.

So what happens: the NFL releases the schedule and the home opener for the Eagles is on Sept. 17th (I have season tix). Plus, they're playing the NY Giants! I HATE to miss a home opener. They are so much fun!

The 2nd home game is a Monday night game against Green Bay and I'll be in Orlando. At least I can go watch that game at ESPN Zone!

So now I don't know if I'm going to go to DL. I keep having arguments with myself, making a case for going or not-going.

Sorry to ramble. I know this probably is no big deal if you're not a football fan, but I bleed Eagle green! Maybe Krista will understand (being a PA football fan, even if it is from the other side of the state :teeth: ).

Ugh! I just don't know what to do!

Terri

Terri, I'm looking at this way. There will always be another home game, there will never be another first ever DL half marathon. Nuff said?
