Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from non-running beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

Drive-by...we spent 12 hours at EPCOT/MK so no LR this week, but I'm betting I got in at least 6 miles walking ;) We got dream fast passes at EPCOT and Lenna got the Dream pixie dust pin...great day at the parks!

And I just have to say:

GO GATORS!!!!!!

Just a quick repost of the motivational video series in case people miss it in the other thread:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2gOF3obXbEQ&mode=related&search=

Make sure to watch all 10 segments, you can either do a search or most will be listed to the right of the one you're watching because they're similar.

Has me eyeballin the IM for a goal at some point in life...

Edit: and I love the fact that it actually made me listen to the lyrics of that song since it showed them captioned on the screen... It's funny how you can listen to something a million times without hearing it...

"In a world full of people only some want to fly isn't that crazy?"

WOW!! I'm on the first page of this week's thread! Wheee!!!!!!!

I had every intention of biking yesterday. I try to do that the day after a long run to keep my legs loose. But the time got away from me. I spent several hours cleaning up the gardens for spring then running yucky errands then fun errands that before I knew it, it was rather late in the day.

DH came home from the honors students retreat not feeling well. So we spent a quiet evening at home. Today I should be able to get to the gym this morning before hitting the grocery store.

I hope everyone did well or hit their goals in any races and workouts this weekend!!!

Rosy- You're getting a math workout in addition to a running workout trying to convert km to miles! :teacher: I think the conversions are harder!

Mel- So glad you guys got 2 of the Million Dreams!

Martha- I've got so much yard work to do. But it is raining today so none of that for me.

Matt-Thanks for the link to the videos. I watched the first 3 and will go back for more! Love seeing the 'little old ladies"! Maybe when I'm that old I'll have improved my swimming enough to consider IM. I just wish they had used the Seal version of that song.

Rest day today. Good thing because it's raining.

Good morning, happy Sunday everyone!

I did my LR of 5 miles yesterday. I ran it in 56:33 for a pace of 11:19 min/mi. My splits were 11:19/11:28/11:40/11:29/10:37. I was really mentally dragging in mile 3, not sure why. I managed to get back in the rhythm in mile 4, then I really kicked it into high gear in mile 5 which felt great. Unfortunately it was a lot cooler yesterday than the last few days I ran, now I'm looking out the window and seeing a few tiny flakes of snow swirling around. Apparently we are supposed to get 4 inches of the white stuff between now and Monday afternoon, then the rest of the week is supposed to stay in the 30s. Yuck.

Kristin - its funny - I think in metric a lot easier than in imperial - except when it comes to running. My pace per km is somewhat intangible, I have to think of it all in miles. I guess it just goes back to my elementary school days when I equate miles with laps around the track. Any folks I talk to that run around here are always quoting there distances in km which doesn't mean much to me!

Good luck to all those racing today. Can't wait to read more reports. I'm going to aim for some aerobics and/or weight training today. After I get started on laundry, cleaning the house, and grocery shopping though!

Oh, BTW - saw Meet the Robinsons last night - which I loved! Thought it was a super cute movie, and I loved the old Mickey/Donald/Goofy cartoon that they had as a trailer!!!

Take a look back and see how far everyone has come.

As I read through the last few days' posts, the recent race reports, and did some deep thinking during today's run, it struck me how far the members of this group have come in such a short time.

I found this group about 2 years ago when the Half Marathon was split from the Full, and I was desparate to find out more about the half marathon course. I found what I was looking for, and quite a bit more.

I'll not name any names, since I would be sure to omit some folks, and I don't want to do that. The key point is everyone who lives here has come a million miles in fitness, and ability to run distances either longer, faster, or both. When you read the recent posts and think back to the first time you read something by person x, you can't help but be impressed. So many of you are doing things you, and we thought highly unlikely just a short time ago. What a cool feeling.

20 years ago when we lived in Austin I had 3 really good running buddies. We ran together perhaps 2 or 3 times a month, but these group runs, plus running talk and support, allowed me to do things I never thought possible.

From time to time I have discussed my general unhappiness with the culture of Massachusetts, best represented by the fact that we have no, that's right zero, friends who are locals. All the friends we have came to this area from elsewhere, as no locals have ever reached out to us. In addition to this odd state of affairs which occasionally does bother me, in past years I've wished for a running buddy, who I could go out with.

Well, after thinking about this today, I realized I have lots and lots of running buddies. We run together once a year, and usually don't see each other on the course, but I have found my running buddies. We push and support each other. We do not compete, since our only true competition in all races is us, but the successes of others motivate us to get out there and stretch ourselves. It's impossible to not get excited about your own training when your friends are doing so well.

The only name I'll use here is the RedDragon, who has set a goal for May 6, a stretch of a goal but achievable, as is making amazing progress towards it. So many of the group have done and are doing the same, and it's pretty cool.

The weather here was especially fine, 55 degrees, dry, high sky, light breeze, and I wanted to push myself today, just so I could stay in the game with this group. I hit the high school track and used a easy/hard sequence, running 400 meters easy, 400 meters pretty hard, repeat.

I did 21 1/4 laps, 8500 meters, 5.28 miles in 47:30, barely breaking 9 minutes per mile, and I mean just barely, averaging 8:59 per mile. At first the easy laps were effortless and the fast laps were pretty darn easy too. As the laps went by the easy laps got a bit slower and I really had to concentrate and push the fast laps, but I made by planned distance and pace.

Looking back in my running log its nearly 2 years since I carried that kind of pace for that long of a distance. Just being in a group where everyone is making so much progress makes me want to keep up, so yes, I do have a bunch of running buddies who support a push me, just like back in Austin in the 1980's.

THANKS. This means a lot to me. I was so depressed after the disaster in the heat and humidity on January 7, 2007 that I considered not coming back for another try. Today I am highly motivated to run a strong and fast marathon on January 13, 2008 (not to mention 5 pounds lighter, which I sure can feel), and do myself and my training team proud. And just mentioning one more name, maybe keep up with that Gatorphipps.

Best to all.
Craig

Alright, I am jumping in this week before the thread is like 10 pages long!!

I have been doing my Minnie Training and for the first time I am really sticking to it!

Todays long run (5 miles) is the longest I have ever run--no walking breaks. I can not believe how far I have come--at the 1/2 in January I could not run more than 90 seconds at a time and today I ran for an hourparty: party:

I am still keeping up with this thread, but I am not finding the time to post much--I will try to do a bit better this week!

I would also like to join in Mel saying
GO GATORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Craig-- What an incredible post. I agree with the sentiment completely.

I can't believe that I didn't write on last week's thread AT ALL! And I was out there getting my runs in too....

OK, back to last week's thread to catch up and then I'll permit myself to post on here about my week..

OK, Matt I just went and downloaded Seal's "Crazy" covered by Alanis Morissette.

In a sky full of people, only some want to fly,
Isn't that crazy?
In a world full of people, only some want to fly,
Isn't that crazy?

I am listening to this as I read Craig's post!:grouphug:

Awesome, just awesome!!

Awe Craig, no fair bringing tears to my eyes on a Sunday afternoon. I love reading your posts and this one is, as usual, dead on. I am proud of this new obsession of mine and I am so blessed to be a part of such a wonderful group. Without you guys I would have never made it to my first 1/2 , much less my 3rd.....

Leanna-great job on your run. We just got back from Meet the Robinsons. I loved the Walt quote at the end. And I think it applies to this group especially "Keep Moving Forward" :goodvibes

Christy- WTG!!!!!!

I posted my LR from yesterday on the post yesterday but since we have switched over weeks & I am so thrilled with it, I am going to post it again: 6 miles 13:39 pace:dance3:

Hey everyone. I had to work yesterday, did a training class, so no running. Afterwards we gave the kids to the grandparents and went out. We scored some free tickets at the last minute to a Brett Butler show (comedian)... and she was awesome. It was really great to just sit back and laugh... I mean really gut bursting laugh. It made me feel good.

So then DH and I stayed out WAY TOO LATE and woke up way late this morning. We went and got the kids, had some lunch and didn't get home until 3pm. I then went to the Y to run my LR. It is very cold and rainy here, so I didn't want to risk getting sick over a LR. I did 7 miles on the treadmill. That is the longest I have ever ran on a TM and I survived. Thankfully the TV in front of me was on HGTV and there were some interesting shows on, so I watched. I managed a 12:45 average, I was going faster, but slowed down the last mile. I took a Hammergel at mile 5 and although it tasted wonderful (Raspberry), I ended up with a side stitch. I am wondering if I chugged too much water with it.

Craig - What a wonderful post. I always talk about my running team and seriously, there are a lot of people that don't even know my running team is all over the US/Canada/World. I talk about everyone like I see you every weekend for a LR. I would not still be running if it was not for this group.

Matt - I have to go check out the videos.

Mel -What a lucky trip. My girls almost received mickey ears when we were there in January, but they stopped handing them out to the line before they got to them.

OK, Have to finish dinner and get my kids bathed for bed. They are pooped out!

Wow, thanks guys for not being so chatty today--I had to work a full day today; 8hrs in the pharmacy counts as cross training right??? Especially since I haven't done that in a year or more! Other than working, it's been a rest day over here!

Craig--What a wonderful post! No one really understands my "running buddies" but DH--but if it weren't for all the WISHers worldwide I wouldn't push myself the way I do.

MelR--Did you run in any of the Hogeye events this weekend???

Well, since I've been gone all day I should go interact with the family! Have a great start to the week all!

I have a couple of extra moments so I can try to post pictures of the nursery provided I got everything resized correctly. :rolleyes1

Can anyone guess who's Lynnda's favorite character...

Excellent work there Bill. You look ready for the new arrival. How soon until the nursery is occupied?

So I officially don't feel like a runner anymore, this is the first time since last August that I did not run for exactly a week. But just as I am feeling horrible, I read Craig's post and realize how far I have come. I have not been on these posts no where near that long but I know that feeling of coming so far. Speaking of that..

KRISTY - That is awesome. I know that feeling of reaching goals and breaking through BARRIERS!!! :cool1: :cool1:

So I have 5 weeks left to get ready for the Minnie!! We will see what happens.

I love reading all of the posts!! You guys are awesome.

angie

P.S. == For those of you who are wondering I am sad :sad2: to say that my trip really was horrible!! But now I am home with my family and I am much better. I will chalk it up to a learning experince!!

Bill - The nursery looks great!

Angie - I'm sorry your trip wasn't good.

Christy/Jen/Tiffj/Leana - Great job on your runs.

Bill - Nursery looks great.

WOW Craig! That touched me!

Bill - NICE! You did a great job!

Angie - Don't be too hard on yourself for not running for a week. Sometimes this helps me in the LR...No pun!;)

I have been trying to do the last bit on my taxes tonight! B/4 DH takes over. OUT OF CONTROL! Is that Xtraining?:rotfl: LOVE being self employed!
Got ready to go and run/bike brick today...b/c I did not get to finish yesterday...but the bottom dropped out of the sky and it RAINED...so I took a nap. Had a children's show this morning so that is xtraining.:dance3: Here is a pic of me in full costume for todays show! Yes I am a dog...named Spot!:lmao: And I dance in that...it is not coolmax!:confused3
