Wk of 20 July - WISH Walking/Running Club

Michelle:Oreo cupcakes: I used the "Lightning Cake" recipe from Joy of Cooking then crushed some oreos and mixed them in. Buttercream icing on top. So bad and yet tastes so good... And a Fudgesicle definitely counts as dairy! (at least in my book!) The cake is beautiful. What was in it? And Jeff --nothing is "too pretty to eat" ha!

Jeff:Gotta say I love your running group and their motto! How bout you bring one of those machines to the finish line??? :) Nice fish!

Duckie:What topics do you have class on in your "teacher camp"?

Tracy: Bummer on the bike--shopping time!

Scott: Good to have you back but YIKES! on the toe. PD :wizard: for it.

Mel: Glad you're back! Any pics from the trip?

Kristi: FitnessU looks like fun. What a great opportunity!

Kira: Philly humid??? You should come visit the sauna down here! Where is your 1/2?

popcorn::

I tried to decorate my cupcakes with lambs, but then I switched over to pigs instead. They turned out cute--and yummy! I managed to make another batch of rock candy rather than fondant but it was edible at least. Then I created a salvageable batch (completely botched but it'll do!). Fourth times the charm?:confused3 I was singing "Stick-to-it-ivity! If you've got that stuff called Stick-to-it-ivity! You're going to do all right".

I got in a nice short LR (8 miles) on Friday and was going to take Saturday as a nice rest day. Nice rest day--right! I had the 'Family and Consumer Science' (Home Ec) Praxis test at 7:30 at one of the local magnet high schools. Hopefully, I'll get my certification in that. Then I went over to my boyfriend's house. His parents came down to celebrate his b-day and we went out for chinese. Still a nice restful day... Then I went back over to the school to take my English Comp Pedagogy test (essays instead of multiple choice). The line always builds up around the building until they start letting us in so I figured I'd walk around the front grounds to do something (not to mention it was nice and shady under the oak trees vs hot in line). So la dee da I was walking along...passed a lady walking her dog...guy taking a nap on the bench...three girls sitting on the curb...and BAM! Something slams into my head. I kinda faded then I felt people behind me and I was being dragged by my purse along the ground. The girls were mugging me!!! My only thought was "scream like mad so someone hears you". And that I did. All of a sudden I looked up and the girls were out in front of me running like mad from two police officers!!!!!! They took down two of the girls, though the third got away. Ends up the officers were across the [side] street monitoring a wedding at a restaurant. They were in an unmarked car and thought the girls were suspicious looking. They saw the whole thing! :) They said though they were 40 yards away it sounded like a shotgun going off when the girl punched me. I have a nice bruise on my temple and on my arm and am rather sore but otherwise alright. I still went and took my test, but phew it was definitely NOT a rest day!

One more week of school then a short summer hiatus...:upsidedow

Claire,

Oh my, how terrible! We are so glad you survived to tell about it  . I take it you now have to go to court to put these girls in prison for assault and robbery. Take care of yourself, and be careful, OKAY???!!!

Aloha Jeff: You should definitely invest in ice-cream and beer stocks. I can see you know, convincing all your favorite races to hold a beer-and-pasta carbo load pre-race & to have ice-cream vendors to provide a variety of flavors at the finish. And then you'll lure us WISHers to these races. You'll make a fortune!

Howard: Okay, you've convinced me on the video bike. It's strange, but except for the lack of wind, you could have really convinced me I was outdoors on my bike. The other bikers, the pacer, the curves, and the ability to shift gears were all very realistic. And I swear the bike seat is just as uncomfortable as mine (w/o my bike shorts). I got more of a WO in on that bike than the others, too! I was sweating after 20 minutes in a way that I don't sweat until much longer on the other stationary bikes. Amazing! And I, too, felt competitive with the virtual cyclists. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to pass many of them, so that made me feel like a loser. :lmao: But I'm sure to get better, right? Right?

And thanks for donating blood. I really appreciate all that you (and Aloha Jeff, among others) do!

Jackie: I'm so glad you've started your deep and long-lasting love affair with a foam roller. I know you've also made your ITB very happy with what I hope will be regular sports massages--the start to a very beautiful friendship with the practitioner? It does sound like the massage helped with your LR this past weekend. I certainly hope you decide to do the full--you're right, that'll cure your Disney-missing ills! :thumbsup2

Ms. Duckie: Summer teacher's camp must be almost over! :woohoo: It sounds intense and you must form some pretty tight relationships. I'm sure exposing some underwear on a flagpole wouldn't be considered bad form. (Depending on the underwear, of course.) It's too bad about the lack of Dole Whip on your trip, but the romantic getaway sounds nice. P.S. I deserve to be adopted by as many people as possible, as I've always wanted to be part of a large family. Don't let Jeff's warning deter you!

Racey Tracy: Congrats on your fabulously fast times over the past week! That's great training news and well worth of massages! Keep up the ice-cream/chocolate chip research. If they're not producing them, I think there's a proposition (of the G-rated kind) to be made to Disney. I'm sorry about your biking experience/explosion, and hope you get a lot of good recommendations.

Stephanie: WTG with the Zumba, you Dancing Queen you. Oh, and have I told you that you have a "Sexyback"?

Kristi: I've been reading up on the volunteer thread. Looks like I need to find me some cowbells!!!

Jennifer: I missed wishing you good luck with the weekend's race--:sad1:. Congratulations on 1st in your AG!!! You have some fabulous short- and long-term goals. And the golden ring of Boston, too! I'm impressed with all your progress and determination.

Liz: Annie Get Your Gun was all right--but I don't know if it's a play that ages very well (racist subplot). I really liked hearing the songs "There's No Business Like Show Business" and "Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better" in context, though, and the performances were solid. I should see more musicals. In BIGGER news--I didn't realize it was your FIRST half coming up. You're going to do great with all your training, and that hill work is really going to pay off! :woohoo:

Angie: A steak? Never, says the vegetarian. I try to get a lot of protein in during the week before a race, with my heaviest protein the day before being during lunch, with a carb-centered meal for dinner. After a race, I pretty much try to get some protein/carbs in shortly after I finish. But for the meal? I let my taste buds be my guide, usually a protein/carb meal. I'm not that experienced/knowledgeable in terms of fueling, but this is what works for me. Terri's suggestion seems particularly sound.

Terri: I hope you managed some good WOs over this weekend. WOs are much better than WTOs, don't you think?

MB Michelle: I suppose the BR Peanut Butter 'n' Chocolate is now gone, too, since I waited too long to reply? Do you make ice-cream cakes that I could stare at longingly? (Btw, I'd eat it--cake is meant to be eaten. Mmmm :cloud9: ) And Jeff definitely owes you a fudgesicle.

Cam: Your 5K time rocks! I'm so happy for you and all that you've finding to love about running. You're an inspiration!!! :cheer2:

AngieT: Good to hear that DH is doing well and planning on January. You're so supportive of each other that it's a joy to read. I've started my training for the marathon right now, which will get me to about 24 miles before taper. I used MfM last year, with a base of about 6 miles before I started and hitting 20 miles before taper.

Leana: WTG with your 14 miler on a tough route. That's got to feel like quite an accomplishment. Road rage is something that really worries me about urban biking. :scared1: You're tough and brave.

Shan: Great news about the recovery and return to running! :woohoo: And it's good to know you're still on for the 1/2. I hope that once you're fully recovered you'll be happy with the results of the surgery & with all you'll have accomplished in getting up to racing form. :thumbsup2

Scott: What do you mean you're no longer doing the Goofy?? Um, don't you know you'll be missed? What does Vegas have with their half that Disney doesn't--or is that some secret that needs to stay in Vegas?:rotfl2: Seriously, I bummed (or is that seriously bummed) that you got injured and that you and Amy aren't going Goofy. But I hope to see you around these parts soon, to nag you into coming down for marathon weekend anyway, and to just get the chance to keep up-to-date with your training and lives!

Claire: OMG! I'm so sorry to hear about the mugging and your injuries. I'm just glad your injuries weren't worse and the police were right there. I can't imagine the stress it put you under, in addition to all your schoolwork and everything. Take care of yourself!

As for me: Busy entertainment weekend. Annie Get Your Gun, Wall-E, Carnegie Science Center, Westworld (in Schenley Park), and a staged reading of Troilus and Cressida last night. That a Saturday's LR, XT, and Monday's run. I've missed DISing consistently, but what can I say? LTO.
