Wk of 20 July - WISH Walking/Running Club

Stacie: My first "walking a half marathon" training program was a 16week plan and I have used it ever since, sometimes having to change it a bit. It does call for doing 13 miles 2 weeks before the event and then tapering. I like it and I love doing the 13 before so my body knows what it feels like and I don't mentally hit a wall at mile 11 or 12.
It is what ever you feel is best for you.

Ang - I know you already got a few...but here's another "kick" for you! You can do it! Oh and very cute pic of the DS...
Angie - WTG on all the mileage and workouts...glad you have found something that works and that you are pain free.
Tracy - Lets just turn all your nicknames into a suffix... sign off with
"Tracy, RT.MTG.DG.PPG.NLE" Can you remember all that?? :rotfl:
Krista & Steve - Congrats! :flower3: Carter is soooooo cute!
Claire - Oreo cupcakes??? Mmmmmmmm... Wanna share your recipe?
Stacie - Question: "Ice cream or drinks?" Answer: BOTH!! :lmao:
Jeff - So funny that you would post that article...I instantly thought of you and Debra as I was reading the magazine the other day! And stop encouraging me to get a Blizzard! It's bad enough that I bought Mocha Almond Fudge ice cream the other day knowing full well that I'm the only one in the house that likes it! When is the Meadowgold race?? I'll have to let my running coach know about that one...he is the RD for some races here...maybe I can talk him into a new one! We were talking about frozen yogurt after our group run last night and even the coach says "Why didn't you guys say something an hour ago? We could've just gone there!" I love it! Your influence is spreading...

Got in 3.5 last night with the running group. Now to hit my LR for the week...

1) Don't blame me for the Blizzard consumption, it's DQ's fault, not mine. :rotfl:

2) The Ford Island Bridge 10K is in April. Here's us enjoying the post race treats.

You run past the USS Arizona & USS Missouri Memorials, where the December 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor took place.

3) My running group's motto is "Live to Run, Run to Eat." Honestly, I have it on my RoadId that I wear on my shoe.

We BBQ after our last Thursday run of every month.

We hit every free scoop of ice cream day offered by Ben & Jerry's, Haagen Daas, and Baskin Robbins. Those other guys, Cold Stone Creamery, and Dairy Queen haven't caught on yet. :rolleyes1

Stephanie: Oooh, so you mean the music I picked out for you is the music you like? Are you sure you're not a figment of my imagination? Maybe I've made all of WISH up??? :lmao: Oh, and Jeff's such a bad influence on us, isn't he? My brother and I fought like cats and dogs growing up--I think moms need serious refereeing skills. :thumbsup2

Aloha Jeff: I used to think you owned stock in Dairy Queen or BR, now I know it's Tucker's. (Which is very holiday-in-paradise picturesque.) I have to admit, we do buy Ben & Jerry's in quantity, even if I try to restrict the portion sizes. No DQ for me, not locally. I do have Rita's Ice around here, although I'm not sure of the appeal. It seems to be a local favorite. Fort Island Bridge run. Brilliant idea, just brilliant! (Tasty, too.)

Sorry about your Stonker run. Maybe I should break out in a chorus of "Tomorrow" from Annie? I'd feel sorrier for your run, but 1) you always have such an upbeat attitude, 2) you've now moved to taunting us with the "Coast to Coast" medal, and 3) you live and run in HI. :rotfl2:

Howard: Okay, you've convinced me. Tomorrow I try the cool video bike. What's the worst that will happen? I gain another addiction and some sore muscles. Eh, I've done worse. I can't imagine rolling out of bed for a 6 miler without fueling first. I suppose that ability comes with time and experience, huh? (Not that it's necessarily good, just that I'd like to know I could do it if I had to.)

Ang: Cute, cute, cute photo of DS. A real heart-breaker and ladies man in the future, I'm sure. But the picture didn't distract me from asking my real question: Did you run today?! :flower3:

Angie: Nice, nice variety with the WOs. How is your running program progressing? And let me know what DS thinks of The Dark Knight. It's a sad but true fact that I probably have more in common with his pop-culture tastes than with many adults'.

Racey Tracy: How did I possibly miss you in my last post?? :scared1: I must have had problems thinking of the appropriately clever, slightly Trashy thing to say. Let's see if I can make up for it... Oh, I agree with the green a WISH ice cream. Are there Mickey chocolate chunks available? Would it include something nutty. Just sayin'.....:rolleyes1 I hope your next work week is relaxing and stress-free, to give you time to train, maybe work on an ice-cream recipe. Thanks for volunteering for the full, and I'll expect to see you out there...dancing. :dance3: I'm doing the 1/2 and just waiting to hear from my ILs to figure out if waterstops #2/#9 will work for them. Jury's still out...

Jennifer: Perky morning runners. Ooooh, we hates them. :rotfl2: Morning runner? Yes, I am. Caffeinated, even overly caffeinated? Yes, I am? Perky? Nope, nothing on this body can be described as such. I'll just have to live vicariously through you. And your great runs! :thumbsup2

Claire: Not one for the green ice cream generally, aside from mint? I wish I could say I was choosy... Maybe something with crushed oreos to represent how we crush the pavement? (Just looking at your oreo cupcake with buttercream icing post and thinking, "Now why am I hungry?" You folks are going to force me to take an extra few laps every day, just to offset the thoughts of such goodies.) Good luck with your fondant, your classes, and your speedwork/runs!

Cam: Regarding post-run ice cream and alcohol. To coin a phrase, it's post-run somewhere, right? Bring on the margaritas! I'm so happy for you that you're loving the running and finding yourself looking for hilly challenges. That's great! :thumbsup2 My MfM book is by my nightstand. It helps ward away that "what am I thinking" nightmares.

Judy: How's the ice-cream and alcohol fueling plan for WISHers coming? I'm in need of a quick shot of running inspiration! :lmao:

Kayci: I don't know quite what the pain could be, but it sounds like you're doing a good job following RICE. Are you doing a full warm up and stretching consistently? Yay for deciding to do the Princess 1/2 and with a friend and running partner. Does it get any better than that? :yay:

Steve and Krista: I already posted in the other thread, but Carter's birth is worthy of a big woohoo and congratulations over here! :woohoo: :cheer2: Give him (and Hines, and you two) hugs from us!

Maura: And how was Traverse City, Blizzard notwithstanding? What's this year's cherry crop like? (Go Tigers!)

Kristi: Awww, mom stories! How does Zack feel about the hugging and kissing these days?

Ms. Duckie: I hope you enjoyed your time at Disney and WL, the lack of Dole Whip notwithstanding. How on earth did that happen? :confused3 I'm not sure Tracey and Jeff should be teasing you about your many, many trips to Disney, despite being on Mickey restriction. That's MY job! (And will you and DH adopt me--I'm young...at heart.) And you have to go to DL--it's fantastic! So what happens at teacher's camp? Whose bra do they run up the flagpole? (Ah, the traumatic stories of my youth...).

Stacie: I'm actually starting my marathon training this weekend. I'm a bit prone to injury and want to use the extra time to add mileage. I ran smack into the 20 mile wall last year and thought, "That's it, I'm done. Where are the margaritas?" So I'm planning on doing more miles over a longer training period to build physical strength and overcome my mental weaknesses. (At least one of them--there are so many to choose from.) So I agree with Tracy on this one.

Leana: Total Body Endurance....sounds promising. As does the Edmonton tri. I think you just have to do it--after all, it's the last one of the season. You have to have something to tide you over, right?

MB Michelle: I blame Jeff for my eating ice cream (and DOOD, of course). But mostly Jeff. It's the only area in which I can keep up with him. :lmao: Now, your running coach sounds very reasonable in his approach--and your appreciation of Mocha Almond Fudge speaks very highly of your good taste. I could definitely hang with you--near your freezer, I think. Yay for offsetting the sweet, cool goodness of ice cream with a good LR. That's an unbeatable combo. :cheer2:

As for me: Lots of little things going on. Signing up as a waterstop volunteer at the 1/2 (ILs are on the fence). Starting marathon training this weekend with my first LR. Going to see Annie Get Your Gun tonight--pinky-pistol-packing mamas make me happy. (How's that for a shout-out, Tracy?)

Speaking of shout-outs, here's a couple. Yoo hoo? AmyBeth, Scott? I know you're not still in Vegas......

Deb,

I only own stock in Disney, but you're giving me a great idea, buy up all the different ice cream stocks out there! You, Michelle, and Tracy will make it possible to retire early.

Deb & Jen : OMG, I have a friend I run Sunday's with. She's this tiny little Pixie (think Tink), and she says "Good Morning" to every single person whom we cross paths with. It must be in the hundreds each morning I run with her. I tease her about it, but that's just the way she is.

I run mornings, preferably at 5 am, but I'm not that PERKY. Maybe I'll give a wave or a head nod, but I don't open my mouth unless someone is sticking ice cream or a beer in it. :mickeybar :drinking1

Now if the WISH team could get either SubZero or Fridgedaire as sponsors, and we could get all the brewery's and ice cream parlors to make a generous donation... strictly for carbo loading purposes. REALLY!

Debra~ I want a full report on the video bike experience. Really get into it. I actually feel like I am competing with those video bikers and try to pass every one of them to the finish line. (I might be a bit strange) :confused3

I have to post quickly and go hose myself down. I am just getting in from a run and in the "cooling off stage". I ran one extra tonight, I was scheduled for 3.

Miles: 4
Time: 35:26
Pace: 8:51

Splits:

Have a great evening everyone!

Ang - DS is absolutely adorable! Have you run yet?

Angie - Still pain free? Are we taking it easy?

Cam - You're more than welcome to drop in any time and use our hills. They're not too bad, just enough to prepare you for those nasty overpasses!

Duckie - Did you at least get a Mickey bar? :mickeybar Glad you liked WL!

Jeff - DD17 did the year-round thing from K-8. We loved it. The transition to a regular calendar for high school was hard - mostly because we were used to going to WDW in September and December when she was on break! We had to go in June last year for the first time - it was quite an adjustment. :scared1:

Stacie - I'm another one who believes in doing the distance before the race. Galloway has you run 14 before a half. One of the reasons I like running with the Galloway program in Raleigh is starting so early in the spring I have plenty of time to prepare - we've already done 14, so from here on I'm preparing for any distance I choose to run this fall.

Other than 1 day of strength training and Pilates, I've done nothing since Saturday's LR. I limped around and whimpered so much that DH suggested I stop running for a while, which got him a look of "are you crazy?" from me. I decided to try a massage and see if that might work out some of the kinks and knots, which I was pretty sure are all inter-related. I went today, and WOW! I've just started having lots of pain in my knees, which I suspected was IT band - I had NO IDEA how much was sore until she started working it. The foam roller has been on my list to buy for a few weeks - it is now a MUST! I suspect that this weekend's run may be much improved, although she said I probably need at least one more session before we get everything worked out. Anyway, I highly recommend a good sports massage for anyone who's struggling with IT band issues.

DH and I are still trying to decide if I/we want to do the full in January. We've been holding out to make sure my job is stable (lots of layoffs in my company), but that seems to be okay; now I want to be absolutely sure my body is capable of running 26 miles before I fork over $125! But we're suffering from Disneyitis too, and as Jeff said, there's only one cure...::MickeyMo

Jackie

Ack! I need to read a bizillion pages for my class next week. I'll be by for more time tomorrow (I know I'll need a reading break!).

Aloha Jeff:
I thought we had a good shot at DL until DH freaked out on the flight home.

Deb:
I'll check with DH on the adoption bit. He seems eager to have a family, so if you promise to keep in touch and have dinners with him and stuff, it could be a go. ;) I think I'm not supposed to go back until Marathon weekend, but I remain optimistic that a Food&Wine trip is in my future. :D And "teacher camp" is what I call my residential graduate class that I take every summer. It's only for teachers, and between Sunday evening and Friday morning, we do every bit of a full 3-credit grad class. But it's only $100 all-inclusive, and if you do your work, you get the money back. They feed us 5 times a day (7-8 am: hot breakfast buffet; 8-10:15: class; 10:15-10:30: morning snack; 10:30-noon: class; noon-1: lunch; 1-2:30: class; 2:20-2:45, afternoon snack; 2:45-5 pm: class; 5-6 pm: "free time"; 6-7 p.m: dinner; 7 pm-10pm: class, often a movie or a guest speaker). This year, a Broadway show is included (woohoo!). It's a great way to get on the other side of a desk, remember what it's like to be a student, recharge and energize with cool ideas for the coming year, and meet teachers from all over the state. I'm excited about going. This is my fourth year. No bras up the flagpole, but I'll bring it up at the social on Sunday night and see if there are any takers. :)

No Dole Whip because we were having a romantic getaway and I wasn't stressing out about seeing everything. Then DH saw Statler and Waldorf pins ONLY available at DHS, so the last morning which should have been at MK was moved to DHS, and a severe lightning storm prevented a trip over to the Poly instead. Crazy.

Jackie:
No Mickey bar, but I did have a fabulous cupcake with sprinkles, several brownies, and a Mickey head rice krispie treat. :) And a sundae at Ghirardellis (with dark chocolate hot fudge).

Duckie

Deb: I'll check with DH on the adoption bit.
Duckie

Duckie, BEWARE, someone by the avatar Deekaypee tried to get me to adopt her a few months ago. :rotfl2: Must be some evil ploy to invade your home for your frozen treats and cold beverages. Run the other way, and don't look back!!!

DH and I are still trying to decide if I/we want to do the full in January. We've been holding out to make sure my job is stable (lots of layoffs in my company), but that seems to be okay; now I want to be absolutely sure my body is capable of running 26 miles before I fork over $125!

 Jackie, you could always find another WISHER to wear your chip at the start line, and meet up with them just outside the Grand Floridian, and exchange your chip.

That way you get to sleep in, and then run a half marathon back to the finish line. WISH teammates stick together, right? :lmao:

Hey ya'all, wassup??

I was out at my place, you know, Mount Trashmore after work today!!! I did my fastest time today at the specific location!!! :woohoo: Had a nice breeze towards the end and on my last mile or so when I turned to go west up the hill to the other side I found out why. I looked up in the sky and this is what it looked like...

IMG_2541-1.jpg

Nice big thunderstorm cloud heading my way. I was done anyway.

Debra: Thanks for the inclusion!!! I'll have to work on the mickey mouse shaped chocolate chips for the WISH ice cream:lmao: .

Tomorrow is my official day off. I have a massage scheduled for 9am and Mickey dog has a vet appointment at 11am.

Take care all you wishers,
Tracy RT,MTG,DG,PPG,NLE.

Training report.

Yea, I made up for Tuesday's stonker run.

5 miles at 8:30 pace, and 3 1/2 miles between 8:40 to 9 minute pace. After chasing Guru Les and Speedy Tim today, I let them loose at mile 5, and trailed them back to our starting point. Total 8 1/2 miles of pure sweating.

Have a great Aloha Friday everyone.

Morning all. Did my 45 min Zumba class last night. Thinking about hopping on the treadmill in a bit before taking the kidlets to the waterpark. Can't even bear to be outside w/o being in the pool. It's already 85 degrees, and it's, oh, 7:45! The weatherman said last night to be prepared for our "return to summer" this weekend, b/c it's gonna get hotter. Hmmmm, I must've missed those days when we left summer behind. As far as I can remember it's been hotter than you know where. Why, oh, why did we leave Wisconsin? Oh, yeah, maybe it was the 6 months of winter I couldn't deal with!

Debra--Yep, you pegged me with the soundtrack. And as much as I would like to be, nope, no figment of the imagination here. You got the real deal. Oh, and could you add some Justin Timberlake to my soundtrack too?:lovestruc

Okay, finished the morning granola and should decide whether or not to TM this morning. Leaning toward yes, can you believe it?

Hey guys, if you haven't noticed, Judy & myself are trying to entice as many WISHers as possible to voluntEAR as Sports Enthusiasts for Marathon Weekend.

It will be lots of fun, and what a great way to support others WISHers (and all the athletes) if you are not participating! :thumbsup2

Nevermind, you receive a one-day park ticket, jacket and a snack for your troubles!

I know that we had a blast doing this last year and we hope to have much more particpation this year. :woohoo:

Here's a link to the thread:

Come on guys, you know you wanna.... :cheer2:

Hey all!

Tomorrow is race day (again). Our local running club sponsors race such that there will be a race every weekend between memorial day and thanksgiving. Stupid me is running just about every one between July 4th and Labor Day.

I did my typical pre-race workout of 5k throughout the neighborhood. I personal bested on this route (27:41). I also ran in a skirt for the first time. Best. Thing. EVER.

I also officially refistered for my first 10k. It's the Tufts Health Plan 10k for women in October. I know I won't be competitive but it's another stepping stone on my way. I've never run 6.2 miles, but then again less than 3 months ago I'd never run 3.1 miles. I don't think I've discussed my goals before (other than for specific races). My medium term goal is to run the Princess 1/2 marathon in March and my long term goal is the Disney full in January 2010 (and if you want to really unrealistic to Boston Qualify).

I also got a pedicure yesterday. Amazing! I highly reccomend it to any runners. The foot massage alone is worth it.

Steve and Krista, Congrats on little Carter! I bet it's not long before he's out running with you two. But here is the real question which will come first for him Disney or running?

Stephanie, Do you like Zumba? Do you think it helps with your running? They offer free classes of it at my college and I did them once or twice, but not while I was running as well.

Hi everyone!

Duckie - tell Noah Liz & Pat are going to F&W so obviously you two must as well. :thumbsup2

Tracy - good thing you were done! Looks like how sky gets during summer storms.

Jeff - WTG! Think at this point all of us are sweaty messes during runs. Yet another reason for ice cream!

Debra - how was the show?

I got in another 3 mile hilly walk last night. Actually starting to like this trail - crushed limestone, nice scenery and know that the hill work can only help (as soon as it stops hurting). Tonight will be core/upper body work as have 8 mile walk tomorrow and 32 mile bike Sunday. Seeing Monday as definite rest day.

Only 16 days until my first 1/2! I've been training but still nervous. No goal time - just finishing will make me happy.

Have a great day!!

So, say I had been being really good about food choices and training, and had a reason to celebrate too, so I was going to have a steak and potato dinner (which I NEVER do anymore)...would my best choice be to have it the night before a long run (long for me...7 miles) or the night after said run?

welleslyprincess--I  Zumba! It's just so much fun and a departure from sometimes torturous treadmill workouts. I don't know if it helps my running much, but it does help me keep from getting bored. I got really burned out with running after the marathon last year--I trained for 3 marathons practically back to back--and the last thing I wanted to do was keep on running. So, I decided to branch out--Zumba is the furthest from anything I ever thought I would be doing, but I'm there every Thursday night getting my groove on!

Didn't make it on the TM this morning. DD requested I actually make her breakfast this morning. I guess the Cheerios aren't cutting it anymore. Then we headed out to the waterpark, fun fun!
