Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

Whoooooo Hooooooo!!! I'm first to post this week. Yaaaaaaay.:woohoo::cool1:

Go Greg Norman, win that British Open tomorrow, and shock not only the golfing world, but the entire sports world. Here's to you Shark.

On the local front, Michelle Wie. What can I say, forget to sign the scorecard gets you DQ'd. She can't catch a break. So much for taking the rest of the year off from Stanford to play golf. Nike's going to cut their losses very soon.

Racey Tracy, 14 this month, 16 next month. 18 in September, 20 in October, 22 in November, then taper for the December 14th, Honolulu Marathon. Same training plan each year.

I used to do 6 miles on Tuesday's and Thursday's, but this year I upped it to 8 miles due to Guru Les pushing me. In August I add a short 3 mile JOG on Saturday's, and stationary bike for 1 hour once or twice a week when I feel like it.

The Disneyland Half is really a fun run with friends for me. If it's hot this year, I'm taking my time again. If we luck out and get cooler weather, then I'll race my best.

Went to see Wall-E, very good. Also watched Hancock, pretty good as well.

Have a great Sunday Team WISH!

Morning team!

My 18 miler went really well yesterday! I had some company along the way which really helped. I think today is going to be a true, honest rest day though!

Carrie - My tri has a 500m pool swim, 20K bike and 5K run. I guess I should try a brick or too out over the next couple weeks...

Jeff - I won't be doing the DL 1/2. My airfare to Quebec City for my marathon never really went on sale, so with that I figured I'd be better off not going to DL a week later...

Jackie - Thanks for checking in on me!

VOLUNTEERING for WDW Marathon??

Just bumping this over from last week hoping whoever does the WISH volunteering sees it....-

"I just saw on the Disneyrunning.com forum that the volunteering is up.

I would love to do it if WISH does a water stop, maybe in the parking lot at TTC or the one at the endof the Magic kingdome or the one over by the AAA care care center or somewhere around there. That way if we want to get to the finish we would have time to do that, maybe hop on the monorail back over to EPCOT!!!

Let us know"

I just got back from my lovely 8 miler. I had my pinky pistols on the way out but not so much on the way back. When I left this morning at 6:40 there was no breeze whatsoever!! It started a bit on the way back so not so much drippage. (Pinky pistols is what happens when the the sweat that collects under the elbow and runs down your arm and pools at your hands and as you swing your arms it then flys out off the end of your pinky fingers. hehe :lmao: )

I am almost done watching my favorite Sunday morning show, CBS Sunday Morning. I love it.
No NASCAR today - yuk!

Hey everyone including Duckie, Jeff, Mel, Cam, Vic, Scojo, Amybeth, Debra and eveybody else. I may get back on here later to catch up more.

Have a good Sunday.

Good afternoon WISHers!

Hoping your Sunday is going well.

4 scheduled, 4 completed. Tried out my new Pearl Izumi's. Very comfortable!

Jeff - How was the marathon clinic this morning?

Leana - WTG with the 18 miler!

Tracy - WTG with the 8 miler! I agree, no NASCAR today, yuk!

:)

Well, just thought I would get on again and chat.

SInce no NASCAR today. I have done a few things. One is laundry :laundy: , not too exciting.
I was also having an issue with my laptop that whenever it restarted it would tell me that it couldn't recognize the battery and that it wouldn't be able to charge it. Of course that was silly because it was charging the battery and could run on the battery. I did some investigating and updated the bios and that took care of that.
I have caught an all day marathon of National Lampoon Vacation movies on TV Land after watching the Tour de France. Right now it's the European Vacation.
I also just called and made my reservation for Jan 09 marathon weekend. I am arriving Thursday evening and leaving Monday afternoon. 8th-12th. I got a code for the basic marathon package(-no tickets or dining) just ask for code "AEO" (Just think cAptain EO - hehe) My Mother and I will be staying at the POLY!!!!! We did this last year and it was fantastic. I decided to splurge and book now so I could make payments every month. We stayed there this January after not staying at the Poly in over 30 years. It will be my Mom's first official race (the 5K) so I wanted to do this to celebrate.
Oh, I almost forgot that I also went grocery shopping at Publix, "where shopping is a pleasure".
Hmmmmm, anything else.... not that I can think of at this moment.

C ya'll, Tracy

*** OH and about the volunteering for the water stop. I as just reminded that what I am thinking as certain water stops is different for the Half than the Full, SO whatever water stop you guys have done in the past is great. Just figured one that was early on would work so that things could get cleaned up and then peopl ecould move on to cheer or go to the finish and scream team.*****

Leanna - Great job on the 18 miler! :thumbsup2

Vic, Jeff and Tracy - way to go to you, too, for your runs! :)

Tracy - I love the Poly, too! I think it's my fave (after my DVC resorts).

Cam - WTG on your race. Sorry you didn't meet your goal, but there's always another chance. The heat was brutal, so better to play it safe.

I survived my relay yesterday! Boy was it HOT! We had a 5 woman team and each person had to complete the 8.4 mile loop. I had estimated about 2.5hours per person (I knew some would be faster and some slower), so I figured we'd be all finished around 10 PM (It started at 10AM). I was pretty close. I was the anchor leg and I got in at 10:05PM.

It was 97 degrees during the daylight part of the race. All, but one of my teammates had never done a race before and the one that did, had only done the 5K on marathon weekend. But they did great! I was very proud of them, since they don't normally do race training. The only problem we had was the #4 leg of our team. After I finished, I asked where she was and found out they had to take her to the hospital. She was dehydrated and had heat exhaustion. I kept remingiding her to drink the Gatorade and not just water. Plus I gave her some Clif bars and Cliff Shot blocks. She's a bigger girl and I don't think she took in enough to replenish what she was losing. We went over to wait with her and she was released around 1:30AM. They checked her out and gave her IV fluids. I spoke to her today and she was tired, but feeling ok otherwise.
Our time splits were as follows:

Leg 1: 1:54
Leg 2: 2:27
Leg 3: 2:40
Leg 4: 3:00
Leg 5 ME: 2:05

I was happy with my time, especially given the heat (even at 8PM) and that my training has been sporadic. I still have to work on increasing the run segments and try to do less walking. I'll work on that for the next month, as I have no more events until late Aug.

This event was a 24 hour event, as it had a Lone Ranger category (see how many laps you can do in 24 hrs.) They were giving out special awards for anyone completing the 50 (6 laps)and 100 (12 laps) mile marks. There was a guy they announced as the 1st to reach the 50 mile mark. He did it in a little over 6 hours. I can't even complete the marathon in 6 hours. And he kept going (I guess he was going for the 100 mile mark).

Terri: Congrats on the Relay!! Sounds like an interesting event. Sorry to hear about the hospitalization of one of the teammates. Heat and humidity is a BEAR!!!

Tracey made me feel welcome enough to try a quick post here on my training.

Yesterday 1 hour on my bike
Today 30minute power walk (first since I sprained my ankle a week and a half ago) which was 2 miles and kept below a 15 minute mile for both.
Today 30 minutes on the bike and 1 hour swimming upstream :)

Terri -- I thought of you so much yesterday and worried a LOT about the heat this weekend. So glad it went so well. Awesome finish time, too!

Cindy -- :welcome: Take it easy on that ankle. Awesome times! :thumbsup2

Today was a pure rest day for me except for my 100 crunches and 100 pushups. Tomorrow is all of that plus my strength training session with my personal trainer. I may try to get in 2 miles on the TM, but I have to be in court in the morning, so that might not happen.

Back soon to catch up. Happy training, all! :cool1:

Cindy: Hey :welcome: and glad to see you over on the weekly thread. DOn't get overwhelmed and try to respond to everyone. At first just keep it simple and let everyone know about you and your progress and anything else you may need help or encouragement with.
I also agree, great times!!

Our Marathon Clinic went well today, I say that because I didn't have to run :lmao:. I had table duty, which is basically a day off. Never fear, I did my 14 miles on Saturday.

The group was downsized due to people on vacation, and also the Tin Man Triathlon race on the other side of the park.

Our Girls Scout Blood Drive resulted in 26 donors, 9 deferrals, and about 5 no shows. We did have a few walk ups to help our numbers. Our girls thank the donors upon arrival, helped pass out refreshments afterwards, and cheer when donors exited the bus. It was a fun event.

Hey team - Just a quick post from me. This morning I got up and was going to run... it was really over cast and humid, so I didn't. DH got up and I was going to send him to the Kwik Trip for a paper and some milk.... on his bike (he is the biker in the family). So he decides milk is too heavy to carry in a backpack and was going to drive. I said no way and I took MY bike that was hooked to the trailer. So DD5 rode in the trailer and we treked out. She is getting way too heavy to pull around. She kept yelling FASTER MOMMY. It was a pleasant workout.

CAM - I just need to tell you... What do you mean you weren't close to your goal????? YOU DID AWESOME. And WOW on Mile 1!!! You met a goal, just not the one you thought you wanted!!!!!

CONGRATS TO ALL THE RACERS THIS WEEKEND! I am so very jealous as races are few and far between in my neck of the woods. It's no wonder I rarely have a race report for everyone!

Kristi - When you get ready to coordinate the water stops. I still would like to be in on it. Even tho my marathon weekend is iffy, I don't want to miss out on this if I am able to swing it.

Want to see what I have been busy doing?? We are going to WDW in 27 days and I have been making outfits like crazy. Here are a few....

HANNAH MONTANA SWIRL SKIRT to match her t-shirt

QUICKY SUNDRESSES

STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE OUTFIT (not for WDW, but thought I would share)

Hi guys! Just checking in to say HI. I'm updating my photobucket so I can post some pics of my 5K this weekend. It was too HOT and too humid and my time was the worst EVER! I am ok w/ this as I know I haven't been training like I should and the heat was just horrible.

Jen...Cute outfits!!!

Hope everyone is doing well!

Happy training!
Stacie

Hello all!

Jeff~ Every pint counts! Great job with your blood drive. I am sure the girls learned a great lesson in helping to pull it off.

Terri~ Great job on your relay! The heat around here has been brutal.

I just got back from a storm shortened run. I went out about 9:30 PM and had to head back when lighting and rain moved in. I managed the following:

Miles: 5.07
Time: 46:53
Pace: 9:19

Splits:
8:48
9:07
8:59
9:31
9:53

Before everyone jumps all over me for running at 9:30 PM, I ran on mostly deserted neighborhood streets, sidewalks and in parking lots that were lit. I also wore a yellow 3M Scotchbright waistbelt that firemen wear--- very reflective. I was very safe! :rolleyes1 Besides, I only had to run 6 miles. Not 10 or more... I would never do a really LR at night (unless it was the ToT). :rotfl:

I think my pace was a bit faster than it would have been given the thunder and lightening in the distance and it getting closer. I finished my run in the rain. The heavy stuff came 3 minutes after I was safely inside.

I only run at night if there was no way to get it in during the day.

Have a great week!

:grouphug:

Howard

Thanks for the congrats on the 18 miles all!

Tracey - We booked our hotel for marathon weekend today too! 1 bedroom at SSR, will be waiting on an AP rate. Reservations made at Chefs de France, Tutto Italia, Flying Fish, Germany, Le Cellier and the Brown Derby.

Yes folks, the Canadian is going to check out the restaurant at the Canadian pavilion! Gotta see how it measures up!

After a week battling a nasty summer cold...I'm back!

Jeff - I'll count on you to remind me at the DL 1/2 that it is a "fun run." It's my first 1/2 and I'm getting :scared:!! Oh...and BTW...where do people that live in HI go on vacation???
Tracy - "Pinky pistols"...I'll have to remember that one! Hope it's not as hot as last year at the DL 1/2 otherwise it will be quite the shootout! :lmao:
Terri - WTG on the relay! Sorry to hear about your teammate, but glad that she's ok!

I finally got in a run tonight after my week on inactivity...4 miles in 51 min.

Jeff - Oh...and BTW...where do people that live in HI go on vacation???

Michelle,

We vacation at Disneyland or Walt Disney World, of course.

"PUSH" the talking trash can even asked us that question in January at the Goofy. He cracked, "You know, there's a Disneyland in California? You didn't have to come all the way to Florida. But we have a real castle here." (i.e. Cinderella's vs. Sleeping Beauty's).

The crowd was laughing. :rotfl::laughing:

Of course the HALF is a fun run. One day out of the year you get to run down Main Street without a Cast Member or Security Guard telling you "NO RUNNING". NOW THAT'S FUN, LOL.

Cam - you rock!

I forget who is in charge of the volunteering for WDW Marathon weekend, Kristi or Diane???? Or maybe someone else.
I went to the web site and there is a number to call if a group of people wants to do something together.
I hope that whoever that person is calls soon to set something up. Again I think a water stop early on would be good or otherwise I would still volunteer for something during the Full.
Tracy - no worries, woman!
Judy & I (or rather Judy :rolleyes1 ) is all over it.
We did not want to post anything until we had all our ducks in a row, with questions answered from WDW Sports about putting together a WISH water stop.
Stay tuned, please.... ;)

(and I know Judy and I, as well as others, tend not to post on weekends, fyi.)

Thanks Kristi for that very important update.

I will definately be staying tuned for the details..........:rolleyes1
