WK of 14 December - WISH Walking/Running Club

Hey everyone-

I haven't posted on the main board in forever!

Laughing at all the decisions to only go with the half distance. That's how I felt after the Goofy- I said the half was the perfect distance for me. I'm doing the half this year and doing the Twizzler thing for the full. But, would you believe I'm starting to sort of think about Goofy for next year??;)

Just out of curiousity, am I the only dork who when faced with a choice of colors goes with WISH green? I wanted a sportswatch in blue for my birthday, but then I saw it comes in lime green and thought that one was far better... Is that ridiculous or what? Now do I trust Ted to order it or do I just get it and hand him the box to wrap??;)

Can't wait to see everyone soon! (And does anyone have any idea where I put my APs? :rolleyes1 )

Jen in GA

Hi, everyone!

Yesterday was my first day out walking again since I hurt my back. I am still taking aleve regularly, but I can tell I'm getting stronger each day.

I had planned on a 6-miler. It was weirdly balmy here yesterday--65 degrees. It was windier than I thought it would be, though, and I didn't bring my inhaler. DH decided 4 miles was better for my first day back (I could have done two more! I swear!). He's worried that I'll push too hard and hurt myself. I understand. I just wanted to be able to say that I did it. :-) I'm a little sore today, but not the bad kind of sore. I'm planning to do six later this week, ten next week and taper, with fours in between as a base mileage. The exciting part for me was that I maintained my 15-minute pace for the four miles. Woohoo!

I'm so excited! :yay:

Anyway, I wanted to say hi (and now, in no particular order:):

Jeff, I love your attitude. Way to go finishing. Sorry about the walk back. :( I love how you always put things in the best light. So much of this is mental. :)

Tracey, glad you had fun with Mickey. Woohoo! Nice score. I can never find the secret score thingie. :( DH was asking about you and your mom yesterday--we are looking forward to January. Will you be doing the 5k, too?

Jackie, at least you made good use of the energy burst. Sorry you are still not back to where you want to be. Hope Mystic is feeling better soon!

Tricia, wow--18 miles on the treadmill! Way to go! And I don't blame you--I would be afraid to go that far from my house alone, too (of course, I'm such a goof I would probably make 18 laps around the local park!).

Stacie, nice job on the pace! Woohoo!

CarolA, don't make Jeff scare us! I'm scared enough already! :rolleyes1

Terri, terrible training weather today, isn't it? :sad2: Too cold, icy, snowy, rainy, yucky. My goal is also to feel great when I finish the race! We'll get through it. :)

Cecilia, hope your xrays are clear and you are back to your regularly-training self soon! Breathing is important!

Carrie, I can't imagine how bad the weather is there! And so cold! It's inspiring when you see people who don't look like stereotypical athletes out there getting the job done, isn't it? Take it easy--and good job getting those miles in this weekend!

Jen, that is too funny you said that about the WISH green--I hate green and find myself drawn to it lately! I'm doing the half, too, and I can't imagine doing a longer distance right now--it's crazy trying to get ready for the holidays and train, too!

Jen (duckie) Mom and I are doing well. Yes, she and I are doing the 5K together. I plan on starting in the very back and letting her go ahead so she is sure to finish!!

How is everyone's training coming along. Mine is going well. Finally had to turn on the A/C on Sunday here in South FL when it started creeping into the 80s in the afternoons. It rained on me a bit tonight, but not too bad.

Saw WALL-E finally last night. Very cute movie!!

Tracy

I'm back from WDW! I expected to get several run/walks but was not feeling well enough to do it justice. So walked a lot at least.

Terri, hope that things go ok for you. I know it has been tough.

Jeff, great job on that "training run." Sorry about the cramping. I hope that stonker is out of your way and January is much better for you.

Tracy, good score there!

Cecilia, hope the doc gives you clearance.

Jackie, hope the meds kick in for you and that all works out. i like the 1/2 distance much better too.

Tricia, ugh 18 miles on TM. You did it though! Whooo hooo!

Carrie, no. I need those days to help me here. I vote Christmas.

Duckie, sorry about feeling that you wanted to do more. Smart that you listened to your DH though. You are right. No injuries now.

So I'm going to follow in Jen's footsteps since I haven't posted on the main thread in ages either....

Jeff-- Great job on the PR!!

Cecilia-- Hope you feel better soon!!

Jackie-- Hope the pup is feeling better soon!

Carrie-- I'm with you... let's just get to January already. Although I have been ridiculously organized for the holidays this year... the tree is up, the presents are bought, the cards are out, family stuff is shipped to Maryland, parties RSVP'd to.... only thing I really have to do are those pesky runs between now and then. :rotfl:

Tracey-- Nice score on Buzz!

Lily-- Walking around WDW totally counts as training! And course research!!

As for me... well, we're gonna make it through another Goofy, I think. My training has been OK, if a bit incosistant getting long runs in (darn working weekends) and with my pacing. I figure that some training is better than last year's NO training, so if nothing else I'll be able to stop walking around like John Wayne a few days earlier this year. I'm really really really going to try and have a quality 20 miler this weekend which would make me feel MUCH better about the Goofy. I'd love to do better than last year... but we'll just see what the race days bring. Everything is a go... arriving Wednesday afternoon and departing either Monday night or Tuesday. CAN'T WAIT!!!

Happy training all!
Kevin :earsboy:

You're not alone. This is my first Half, but my training has been hit or miss. I hit the Long mileage on Sundays, but miss my weekly shorter sessions... :sad2:

DH is not training at all though... Good thing for him we're mostly walking and taking run breaks. Hopefully he can keep up! :goodvibes

Stacie

Kevin - If you're so organized, come help us, PLEASE!!!! Except for Xmas gifts I got in the mail(and I don't think those count0, we don't have one christmas decoration up inside. :guilty: Of cousre, I want to come run with you this weekend, so maybe you can't coem help. :sad2: Big snowstorm due Thursday. Entire state. We're sunk. Airfare is $$$$$$, though.

Lily - SOrry, I must disaggree. The calendar must skip to January. :rotfl:

Duckie! SO good to see you!!! Glad you did so well!!!

Tracy - My training rocks due to all teh bad conditions. Wish we didn't have to add teh extra snow, cold and ice endurance. :sad2:

Jen in GA- I keep a folder by teh computer. It is a plastic one from WDW (OK,s et of 3). I print out plane tix, room confirmation, race confirmation and stick it in there. When I get home from WDW, tix go into the folder fro teh nex WDW trip. WOrks really well. I'd never find my tix if it were'n't for teh folders.

Did 3.5 mile sin 40 min last night. I was a bit sore forom Monday, so just glad to be done. Did teh TM for a multitude of reasons. Make sme appreciate teh 1/12 mile track!

Hello All!

I am at Disney! YEAH!

I am working while I am here. Right now I am on a conference call.... (can you tell it's exciting!)

Got up and did some running around OKW today. Took the path over to SSR and saw the new tree houses. COOL! I think I ran about 3.5 miles based on time. I forgot my Garmin :(

I have not been as good as I should be on the weekday runs. However I am trying to do better!

And updating Jeff

22 days to 5K
23 days to half
24 days to Full.

Hopefully we get weather as nice as todays. Low humidity, sunny, not too hot!!!!

Carrie - I'm all for skipping Christmas. My dream is to spend the entire holiday period at WDW and forgo all the hoopla at home, but my money tree hasn't sprouted yet. :confused3

Jen - Not only do we have the WISH green, but DD's soccer team is the same color. Everything in our world is lime green! There is no other option.

Duckie - I so understand about wanting to do more when you're starting over, but be careful and listen to DH. Overdoing it is not the way to get back in shape!

Kevin - Can I hire you? The tree is up, but it only has lights, no ornaments. No presents are bought (but then, we're doing this low-budget so there aren't going to be many). Cards have not being mailed (think I'm going to do the e-thing?). I am going to do the 20 miler this weekend, but other than that...

Stacie - We have the same story. Long runs okay, short runs not so much, and DH has not trained at all. His longest run so far is 6 miles - and we're doing the full! :scared1:

Carol - Keep that weather there!

Cecilia - Any news from the doctor?

:dog: Mystic update... back to the vet this AM for IV fluids. Hadn't eaten or drunk since Monday night's trip to the vet. Am supposed to pick her up in a few minutes. Doc said she ate 1/2 can of food after she got fluid this morning, but we still don't know what's causing the problem. May be liver related - cross your fingers that it's just an infection! The remainder of my training rests on how things go with the dog...

Oh Jackie, I hear ya!
We all need to win the lottery and spend Christmas in WDW.
My friend Jen and her family are headed down to WDW today (I think) for 2 weeks! Their kids have never been. They are going to have so much fun! I am a wee bit jealous.

I am determined to do my Christmas cards tomorrow at work.
It's the only time I have down time to get anything done. :rotfl:

I did manage 2.5 miles on the indoor track today.
Had to leave it at that so we could get home and out for dinner for my Dad's birthday tonight. :goodvibes

Hi everyone! Just a quick drive by tonight ... I ran 3 miles yesterday and 4.4 miles on the TM tonight. We had a big snowfall last night so I decided to stay inside. The sidewalks are sort of clear but I'm really parnoid about slipping - especially since we're so close to January. Saturday is my LR day and that should be interesting since we're expecting a snow storm on Friday. I'm planning on going for 9 miles :) I may just run 3x around my 3 mile route since that's mostly residential and I can go on the roads.

Hope everyone is doing well! I'll catch up on everyone's posts tomorrow!

Kristi - Christmas cards? I think mine are stil lin a box in teh attic. Not that I have time for those either. Yup, I'm scrooge this year. :sad2:

Jackie - :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: for Mystic! :grouphug:

Rest night last night. Worked on Xmas gifts. Was thirlled not to have to run, though. Bad sign.

Jackie Hope Mystic is ok soon. So hard to have a patient that can't tell you what's wrong. BTW, if you tell us where you planted your money tree, we'll help you get it to sprout for just a small share of the profits!

Carrie Don't worry about not wanting to run. You are always so well prepared that I'm sure it'll be fine to miss the occasional run. Heck, I have blown my training plan out the window lately for the half, but I am strangely unworried--stupidly perhaps, but I figure I'll get in what I need between now and 3 (gulp) weeks from now! Are you ready for the snow storm (where is the little sitck out your tongue and thumb your nose icon when you need it?)

Short workout today..going to try and do my 10 miler tomorrow, although indoors and with a somewhat strained hamstring. We shall see.

Maura

Hey guys. This will be a run by post. I hope everyone is doing well. Things are so crazy! Today I think I came close to a complete holiday nervous breakdown. :lmao:

Caught a small cold this week, had to skip one short run after a brutal 3 miler the day before. The humidity is insane this week! Today I squeezed in a 6 mile run and it hurt. Left arch was killing me about half way in, I turned to go back home and it magically started easing up. I managed to complete the run with a pace of 11:07. I'm gonna take off the next couple of days and give my cold, foot and knee a break. Next week is a 12 miler for me so I probably need the rest. It will be my last long run before the half! :woohoo:

I think I need to go ahead and buy those new shoes... When I'll get over there is a mystery to me. Tomorrow I have signed myself up for two class parties. Why do I do this?!? (Cause I love em!) I'm just glad school will be out for a couple weeks. Surprisingly, though my oldest is still having swim practices all week!!! Even Christmas Eve! Wow, they weren't kidding when they said swim team was a major time commitment.

OK, I really gotta go start dinner and finish my Christmas cards. Yes, I'm that behind.

Love you guys! Cheers!

Christmas cards? Does it count if you actually have them addressed, but can't find stamps?? ;)

So, lately I've been daydreaming about which half I want to do after the Donald. There are a few within about 100-200 miles of where I live, but none of them are in particularily appealing places for the rest of the family. So brilliant me thinks maybe the Princess is the best solution. After all, who isn't happy at Disneyworld?! And we can drive and have APs so it's not that expensive... actually, another trip to Disney might be the responsible thing to do since we want to get more use out of our APs. Am I good or what?! :rolleyes1

Oh, and I couldn't get the WISH green watch because it was backordered and I'm all about instant gratification... I did get a WISH green toothbrush though.;)

Jen in GA

Oh the weather outside is frightful, but the treadmill is so delightful.....(well, not really, but I'm trying to stay CHristmasy)

Since I'm spending 14+ hours driving east tomorrow, and since we have about 10+" of snow so far outside, I took it to the gym this morning and ran my 10-miler. This was my longest distance ever, and the longest of my training program. It was a real mental battle--even accounting for the fact that I broke it into 3 pieces with a short break in between. But I got it done--yeah! Of course, treadmill miles are physically easier than outdoor miles, so I will run 10-11 outdoors before the 1/2.

Anyway, thankfully my latest vehicle is 4-wheel drive, and the library finally had my copy of Wall-E (I was 26th on the wait list!) so I am set to veg this afternoon, pack and do whatever else I feel like.

Happy Friday!

Maura

Maura - COngrats on your longest ever. Too cool! WHile teh TM is physically easier, I feel that the mental aspect more than makes up fro it. We did our 10-miler on it last year adn Scott swears it was at least our 15-miler. :-p Safe travels!!!! BTW, it's nice to know that you got as much snow as us for a change. ;)

Jen - DOes it ocunt if you think oyou have CHristmas cards in your atiic somewhere? :rotfl2:

Quick run by everyone.

I got in my 8 1/2 miles last night, post marathon. Worked out some kinks in the legs, and got a knot out of the calf that cramped the worst on Sunday. It was hot and humid, and I almost jumped in the ocean afterwards to get all the sweat off.

Princess #2 awoke to birthday presents & singing from her family. She's 6 years old, and it's so hard to believe! :lovestruc

Happy Aloha Friday everyone!

Tricia: I don't know how you can stand doing long runs on a TM. Outside moving is bad enough...more power to ya!

Jeff: You PRed with nearly half being at a walk?! You must have been bookin' it the first half! Happy B-day to your princess:

Tracy: You are so lucky gettin to see the Mouse! Nice PR on Buzz btw.

Jen in GA: I'm not a big fan of green unless it's for running--then it's WISH green every time! WISH dorks UNITE!!! :upsidedow

Jackie: :wizard: PD for Mystic

AFM:
I did my 20 miler and promptly took an ice bath. I even did one yesterday after my 10 miler. It isn't pleasant, but it makes such a difference on soreness that it's worth it.

It's amazing the difference in weather here. A week and a day ago I was running through snow (sooooo cool!) and yesterday it was muggy humid wet and a bit hot. I swear I was swimming, not running!

Somehow my 20 miler today was so much easier than my 18 miler. Must be a mental thing. I have decided that in the future I will include two 16 mile cycles (long runs: 14 miles, 8 miles, 16 miles, 8 miles, 16 miles, 8 miles, 18 miles) as I think that would make it easier. Wow...now I just assume that I will be doing this again. :upsidedow

I'm still working on Christmas gifts *sigH* did yall know it is nearly impossible to find VCR machines (not with DVD) at a reasonable price any more (if at all)?!

Question: Do yall think it's worth it to bring two pairs of [broken in] shoes if you are doing Goofy? I didn't last time and I didn't have a problem with them being wet or tired or anything, but now I'm wondering....

Happy Running!
