My kids play Wizard 101 and they are asking to "buy crowns."

I can't quite figure out (and they are not explaining it well!) what the crowns do and how long they will last.

They said if they are members (which they aren't) they don't need to purchase crowns, but the crowns let them in to places members can go.

How long do crowns last? If I purchase 60,000 crowns for $59 at the current discount, will that last at least a full year, or would the $79 yearly membership be a better deal?

My ds bought a Wizards 101 giftcard to use. He was quite happy with whatever it allowed him to do but unfortunately, we had to tell him he couldn't go on that site anymore as it was causing so many problems with our computer...slowing it down, viruses, etc.

My DS is a member and he still buys crowns. Crowns are basically currency in the game. They allow to buy all kinds of various things. Members get access to different areas and things that non-members can't get to, but it appears that you can purchase access to member areas. As for how long that lasts, idk. The crowns will stay in your bank til you use them.

We bought the one year membership for DS. He uses his own money to buy crowns.

I would ask my dd, but she isn't home right now. She is obsessed with the game. I bought her the membership, but I know she is still always asking for gift cards for bday and Christmas and using own money for crowns.

I am still not getting what crowns are used for once you have membership, maybe my boys don't know either.

I just purchased the special of 60,000 crowns for $59. That deal is good until midnight Monday, so I decided to jump on it.

After fiddling around the site and registering as a parent and then listing the kids' accounts I realized you are allowed (as the parents) to transfer crowns between your own family, so I gave each son 20,000 crowns.

I think that should last for a while. I am making them each pay 1/2, so $10 each.

If that isn't enough I can get a membership. More than one child is $6.95 each and I told them they would need to pay half if we do that as well.

My DS is also a member, we bought him the yearly one when it was on special at xmas. Crowns can be used to buy things for your house, improve your wardrobe, and to buy things like pets who help you out when your in a battle.

FYI 60k crowns for 59.99 isn't really "special" if you are a member, but it's great for non members. The gift cards you can buy at Target, Gamestop, etc work out to be 10k crowns for $10 (20K for $20) AND you get a free pet with them based on where the card was sold. If your not a member I think the gift cards are for months of membership, ie 1 $10 card equals 1 month of membership, I don't know if non members can use the gift cards towards crowns..

I see. Well, good to know about getting crowns for the same price later. I am fine with the purchase for now though.

You can buy monthly memberships with crowns? Interesting, although buying multiple memberships (3) is $6.95/month and not $10 each.
