Hi Everyone,

For the past week I have been experiencing pain in my lower left side. It was giving me wicked headaches and swollen gums. I went to the dentist yesterday (on my birthday) and he said that the tooth was breaking the bone!!! He didn't seemed to concerned and told me to take Advil. Has anyone else experienced this? The hygenist said that there wont be any room for the tooth to come up through the gum, so will the pain ever go away or will I have to get it removed? I'm kinda freaking out right now, because I have never had this much pain in regards to my wisdom teeth before! The headaches went away today but it feels like the same pain may be in one of my other teeth now!! Do I give it time or head back?

Thanks

I would call the dr. back and tell them you would like to have those teeth removed.....you don't need them and I can't imagine that your jaw breaking is a good thing or nothing to be concerned about..I can only imagine what that feels like...OUCH!!!!

>>> breaking your bone

Head back ASAP. That wisdom tooth is going to have to be taken out soon. Any of the other wisdom teeth that look like they won't emerge normally wil have to come out sooner or later also.

Do not just take Advil or Tylenol for the next few weeks let alone months.

If the wisdom tooth grows into and breaks the root of another tooth you would be in deep trouble. The X-rays should show if the others are about to grow into something.

Had all mine out, two on one side first, then the two on the other side.

Definitely sounds like a return trip to the dentist--or a different dentist--is in order. Breaking your jawbone! I would think that tooth has to come out. You will probably feel MUCH better once it does. Good luck!

I still have all of my wisdom teeth, so I'll speak from a different perspective. Mine hurt pretty bad when I was about 18-20 years old. Every time they tried to come in, I would have dull pain/headache for a few days. Now they have are all in and don't hurt anymore.

Your dentist sounds like a hack because he/she should have at least referred you to an oral surgeon about taking them out. I had similar problems with impacted wisdom teeth and went to have them taken out. Because of the nature of how my teeth were (like yours they were impacted, didn't have room to come in, and were fracturing the jaw) they said I'd have to have one side taken out at a time. Well, it was such an awful experience (not trying to scare you) that I decided to leave the other side in. That was a bad choice because one of the wisdom teeth abscessed and I needed to go to the hospital for treatment before removal. My advice is to go see an oral surgeon and get their advice on what to do. Don't rely on the family dentist to make that sort of decision for you.

My dentist explained that when your wisdom tooth is moving up it has to first break through the bone before it gets to the gum. This is the same thing a baby goes through. Once, it breaks through the bone it is a whole lot easier to remove, as well. I hoping the pain is getting better because as of right now I have only a slight pain. If I'm still experiencing pain by Monday am going to go back and get the referral for the oral surgeon.
