I know a lot of people are suffering with injuries including myself. I have only managed a longest distance of 13 miles in my training for the full marathon. I keep active and do around 1.5-2 hours of cardio/strength training most days a week to keep up my aerobic fitness. I am not saying it is smart that I intend to do the full marathon....but it is what it is and I am not quitting before I even get to start.

I was wondering if anyone had any stories of undertraining/injuries (in the long run department) that ended well. Either you finished or you got further than you thought you would in a race.

Thanks!

I don't have any stories to share, positive or negative. I feel undertrained myself going into this. I will be one, nervous person at the starting line for sure! Not sure what to expect, but at least I will be at one of my favorite places! However, just like any race, big or small, I always learn something from it that I can take with me to the next one. If things don't go as well as I would like this marathon, I'll just try to correct it next time out. If I only make it part of the way, I will consider it a great experience and watch for the 2014 race registration to open up. :-)

2011 was my first Marathon and my longest run was 16. While it's more than 13, it's only more by 3. I also kept up my cardio and mid-week runs and was confident I could finish. And of course I did - in 6:07! I'm quite sure you can too, even with 13 being your longest. ::yes::

My mum did a half ironman the year before last. It's only a half-marathon distance run, but after a 2k swim and a 90k bike ride. She had terrible leg problems while in training, got stress fractures in one leg and soft tissue damage in the other leg. Her longest run in the lead-up was only 16k. On the day she was able to run the whole 21k (after the swim and the bike ride) without too many problems.
