Someone traveling in April asked Josh at Easy WDW this same question in his comments section recently. His response:
The Main Street Bypass is on the Tomorrowland side. So if you’re planning to leave after the fireworks, seeing the show on that side would it make it much easier to exit after the show because you wouldn’t have to deal with the Main Street crowds. I think the Tomorrowland side also offers a slightly better view than the Casey’s Corner side with Tinker Bell and where the fireworks are launched from.
Is there a way to know before the day of for this April? We would want to try this during the week of 4/22.If you are referring to "this year" April, the bypass does not always open each night. Depends on crowd levels. For 2016, the East bypass will (should) be completed.

Also, can you describe where it is? If I am passing the restrooms on the right past the plaza, where do I go next? And coming from the other direction, is it to the right of the Mickey meet & greet?
The walkway from tomorrowland takes you by the restaurant The terrace to Main street. Halfway between are restrooms the shortcut is before the restrooms. Its a lifesaver...you end up right near the candy store by Tony's restaurant.Main Street Bypass... Haven't heard about this before. Any specific details on location? Open year round?
CMs open this when it is necessary, there is no preplanned schedule that I know of--the busiest days have the highest chance.
Thanks for your reply! Do the CM's open it for the day on a busy day, or just almost as a safety valve after a wishes Show?
Robo, thank you for the excellent maps!
