We are taking our little girls wish trip dec 26 - jan 4. has anyone taken a wish trip during this time frame? i'm worried she might not get the as much attention due to the crowds..

I have not been on a WISH trip, but have been at WDW during that time period. Until January 1, the crowds will be so large that even at Epcot (the park with the widest and least congested walkways), you will literally not be able to put your arms out without touching someone else. At the smaller parks, I felt like a fish in a school of fish. We literally had to "go with the flow" at times and just go where the crowd was going. Since you are on a WISH trip, you will have expedited waits, but waits for things other than attraction (like bathrooms and counter service restaurants) will be long and congested.

January 1 was less busy because many people had been out late the night before and did not go to a park early. By January 2, most of the holiday crowds had left and we had a much more pleasant time.
That may not be the case this year; since New Years Eve is on a Thursday for 2009, I expect most guests would stay the whole weekend and leave either on Sunday, January 3rd or Monday, January 4th.

If you have not already seen it, I am going to suggest you look in post #3 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread. That thread is stuck near the top of this board, or you can follow the link in my signature to get there.
Post #3 of that thread has a lot of helpful information, including a section about WISH trips. That section includes a link to a long thread on the Community Board called WISH Trippers Unite. You will find a lot of people who have been on or are planning WISH trips hang out there. You may even be able to find someone who had a trip in the same time frame as you are planning.

I have taken a wish trip with my daughter but it was in august and to disneyland. The good thing is that the wish child will get a front of the line pass so the lines should be relatively short for you. Just go and enjoy the time with your family and the decorations there , you will have a great time regardless.

While the parks will be busier, I can almost guarantee you that she will still get special attention.

I think that the characters and the CMs will always make a little bit of extra time for a WISH child regardless of how bussy a park is. I hope that you have a great trip and be sure to pack extra patience to deal with the people in the crowds.

Hi there!

I just want to invite you to join us on the Wish Trippers thread! :goodvibes

We help plan trips to Disney and would love to help you guys plan.

I do think you guys are going to need a good plan to try to avoid as much of the crowds as you can.

But you will be able to split up your Disney time with Sea World and Universal.

General Tips: Have her wear a shirt that has a contrasting color to her special GKTW button - this will help make sure that the CM's see it. With crowds of people, it may be harder to spot.

Also...there are a lot of seasonal cast members there during that time...so some may not be as up to speed on how to recognize the button. If you get one CM that says something different than the other CM's have indicated...this could be the reason.

I hope you will join us on the Wish Trippers thread! :goodvibes

We were in DW last Christmas (Dec 23 to Jan 3) and it was busy, but I will tell you it was a lot of fun. We saw quiet a few Make a wish kids on our trip, and while waiting for Characters, they would let those kids go right in and it was so special for us to see! I am sure a lot of people go then due to vacation time from work. You will really enjoy all of the Christmas Decorations...it was beautiful!

Enjoy your trip!

Michelle

Oh yes...I forgot!

Technically the front of the line pass does not work for character lines - but many of our families have returned saying that the CM's really don't want them waiting in character lines. They will tell you at your Give Kids the World orientation that it won't work for character lines, but I think you will be pleasantly surprised if they see your button. :)

Have a great trip!! :thumbsup2
