Wish to buy a small contract in 07- suggestions!

I am planning to make the plunge in 2007. I can't find any info here about buying a small contract (50 points) at one resort like BWV and possibly later another somewhere else. Can you combine points from your contracts? How does this affect booking trips?

You can combine points for reservations once you are within the 7 month window if you have more than one contract at different resorts. It is the easiest if they are the same use year and even easier if they are the same resort.

You can not combine contracts to get the 11 month home resort booking advantage.

Your best bet is to contact the re-sellers and let them know what you need and want. The site sponsor is very good and I'm sure could help you. But you also need to be checking listings daily on line and call immediately if you see a contract you like.

Just wanted to add that it seems like Disney is agressively ROFR'ing the small contracts if you aren't a DVC member, so make sure you offer a very competitive price...won't make too much difference in the overall cost with 50 points, but may help you pass ROFR...

We bought a small OKW contract last Spring and we are SO glad we did! We have loved the flexibility it offers as well as being able to add on directly through Disney now and enjoy all of the DVC perks. I also love being able to have points tranferred in and keep control of them versus renting.

You bring up a point I have not heard discussed here previously. If you buy a resale contract, you can not add on points through Disney?? Is that what you mean?

NO, that's completely wrong. Once you are in - no matter how you get in - you can buy direct from Disney if you choose. We did.

We have bought 3 resales, 2 100 points and 1 50 point contracts. They are harder to find, but we had good success with each and perserverence paid off. They are at VWL and BWV. Keep your eyes peeled on the major reseller's websites when you are ready. You can call and ask to be put on a call/email list and this helped us a little bit, but as I recall, we stumbled upon each and every one of our contracts ourselves. I mean...check every day...several times a day!!!

HBC is right...

this is exactly what we did. It also helps to have multiple family members checking frequently when you can not. Make sure you are always a phone call away. These small contracts go fast.

I have run into this scenario and assume it is because of two CONTRACTS, not because they are at two different resorts. Is the following accurate?

You can use points from only one contract for each NIGHT but, obviously, you can then add other nights during the same stay using another contract's points, assuming you are within the proper booking window. For instance, if you have 20 points left on a contract use year and your first two night's would cost you 16 points, you can't then use the remaining 4 points of THAT contract and add them to points from another contract to get the third night . You would have to book that third night using points entirely from one contract or the other (or, you could use your 4 remaining points and add borrowed points FROM THAT SAME CONTRACT).

In other words, you can't use points from two different contracts to "pay" for ONE night...can't split a night's points between two contracts although you can use points from more than one contract to pay for a multi-night stay and the reservations will be "linked.". True?

We did this by transferring the leftover points to the other contract- We then used the transferred points plus the additional from the second contract. This was within the 7 month window and of course then could not transfer points out of the one we had transferred into but it really didn't matter for us.

We are considering buying a contract for about 60 points. Can you buy them for 60 points? The reason is that is taking 60 points for our reservation in January. So far we have only stayed at SSR and OKW, but we have reservations for VWL in Oct. and BCV in Jan. At that time, I think we might have a clearer picture of WHERE we want to buy the add-on. What would be the best thing to do? Contact our guide for the add on or the resale store? I am thinking that the prices are not that much different, that Disney has the inventory, and that with Disney there are no closing costs. Am I correct? What would be the advantage of contacting a resale store for a small contract?

disney doesn't have alot of BCV either - there is a waiting list. so if you see a contract that you like go for it....

but also put your name on the BCV waiting list too...

VWL I think you get from DVC now - I think? may be wrong and you might need a wait list for this one too.

the thing about DVC is that they don't like you to change your use year. So if your use is June - but they have a contract for Sept - you might not even be notificied..... so it is best if you can get your guide to agree to any small contract no matter what the use year.....

About three years ago, we bought a 100 point BWV contract. However we have been borrowing every year since we bought!

So - I finally got hubby to agree to an add on. I tried Disney first and am on the waiting list. But, just Friday, I noticed a 50 point contract with BCV with our use year. (we love BCV too) It was already sale pending and I was so sad. But, for whatever reason, I checked back that afternoon - and it was available. I called, told them I wanted it and sent in my deposit and signed first batch of papers on Monday. Yeah!

However, I will note that I paid $74 per point for my BWV contract with 100 banked points three years ago. For this new contract, I am paying $96 per point without any banked points - so big price increase - but worth it to me! I think it should pass ROFR at that price, but we will see.

So the advice remains, if you see a contract you want - especially a smaller one - jump on it ASAP. They go fast. Also, be willing to pay the asking price.

Funny... I believe I am on the waitlist for BWV points at $92 each (price locked for 30 days I was told - and I went on the wait list in late June) and no closing costs... but I didn't want to wait it out. Not very bright I suppose, but for a couple hundred dollars, I saved some stress and at least will know in 30 days if I pass ROFR and will have points shortly after that!

SSR points were lower - I believe $90 per point - actually, $98 - but you get an $8 credit - so they ended up being $90. Yes, SSR looks lovely, but I am completely and totally addicted to the Epcot area. Love seeing the high Illuminations fireworks without being in the park. Love being able to walk to Epcot and MGM. Love strolling over to Epcot when ever I feel like it... so for me and my family, that area is just my favorite and I was willing to pay more for it.

Even our 6 year old daughter loves it there. Given a choice between MK and Epcot, 8 times out of 10 she will pick Epcot (unless she is in the mood for a roller coaster ride). She loves the music. She loves the Japanese drums. She loves the candy lady (in fact, she has asked to see the candy lady first thing when we get to Disney next time!) She loves the sushi in Japan and fish in chips in England. She loves the kidCot stations and getting passports stamped. That's my

BCV points on the resale market are higher than BWV - so I think you got a good deal if DVC lets it pass ROFR.....

I think whatever works for you is a good deal and anytime you can reduce stress it's an added bonus.

Good points. We love both resorts for their own reasons - but overall love the location. I am excited to potentially have points at both. So - given the contract is smaller - a few dollars more per point was not that big of a deal to get what I wanted.

My use year is August and although I could have gotten some other use year as a re-sale, I decided to keep it simple and find one with my use year. It will save some stress... and as you can see - I am all about reducing stress!

As for wait time - she could not tell me. She said it just varies. I am afraid to take myself off of the wait list until my BCV contract works out - but murphy's law tells me that BWV points will then become available - and that will be very hard to turn down - so who knows, I may end up with add ons at both! Not sure hubby will agree to that unless he gets his Harley too...
