Lexxie, good luck convincing him!! :goodvibes

Jennifer, I just couldn't do C25K. Something about the way I am wired seems to work better with the run/walk intervals. Oh, and thanks!! :)

After the Princess, I transitioned into a local Galloway training program, and have been training with them since mid-May. I am with a pace group that does 2/1 intervals (run 2, walk 1).

I have lost another 15 lbs in the process, and my Chicago RnR half time was 2:49.

I can definitely attest to weight loss = easier running.

So I did it. I signed up for the WDW half in January!

YAY!!

I haven't completed a disney race yet (doing the wine and dine half) but they all sound so much fun!!

I started a new job with the state here in VA and I just have put running on the backburner right now...I need to start getting out there asap, because there is only a little over a month left until I have to complete my first half ever! And it will NOT be magical to not finish :rotfl:

Be careful about the Disney races! They are totally addicting! :goodvibes I do the DL 1/2 every Labor Day weekend, and if WDW wasn't so far away/expensive to get there, I would run every race in WDW too!:cloud9::love:

I forget who was looking for 1/2 marathons, but I just got an email from RNR that they are adding Savannah next November. It is a 1/2 and a full. They added Providence, RI in August, but that one is just a 1/2. Not like just a 1/2, but a 1/2 only.

Tomorrow I have a 5 mile run and then Friday is rest day cause Saturday is my first 10K. It's kinda funny cause it's called the Hotter than Hell - typically we have tons of 100 + degree days in August, but so far it has been upper 80's-low 90's. It should be a great morning run!:yay:

You can do it! At least that's what I am hearing, even if you do walk/run the whole way. You will have soooo much company from us...looks from reading all these posts there are a lot of us in the same shape, Just starting and slow and wondering if we can do it. Won't know till you try, and for me this is the year and WDW is the place! Where magic happens....

Well Said!

YAY!! :yay:

Yay! DH says I can register tomorrow for the Grand Rapids 1/2 - I am so excited!!

:)

Glad he said Yes, now you will have to work on him for the princess!princess:

Good Luck on your 10K Hope the weather stays nice!

I like the ideas I've read about so far. The Sorcerer's Apprentice's relates well with me because like the "Brooms" gave Mickey some trouble, I fear the "sweepers"! Ha ha..

Here is another idea: Roger Rabbit's Racers.

Congratulations on registering! I am registered for the Columbus Marathon (doing the 1/2) on Oct 17th as well. I don't really feel like I am ready. (Never done a half before.) But I am doing if for the experience - no matter how I do. My goal is to finish in the alloted time. That is all. :) I am viewing it as a trial run for the Princess 1/2, so I will know better what I might need to change for next February.

I too Fear the Sweepers.

Sweepers, No Sweeping. (sounding like Dora) :rotfl2::lmao:

Ah...apparently we all have a deep fear of the dreaded sweepers. :lmao: Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one!

Okay - I am embarrassed to say this but I flaked on the GR 1/2. I am just not going to be ready - I have been reading books and I am further behind than even I thought I was.

That being said, I did register for the local 5K that is on August 28th so I am not giving up, just being cautious. :( I feel disappointed in a way but I think it is better now than signing up and not being able to finish within the time limit. That would derail me totally.

:(

What is CHI running?
I haven't run at all since the Aug 1 half. I've been totally in the weeds at work (with the unexpected trip), been eating poorly, and have a head cold.

However, I have a 10 miler scheduled with my running club this weekend. Should I go? Should I try a short run on Thurs first? My shin is still sort of bothering me from the half...

how are your shins feeling now?? are you still going to run the 10 miler? if so good luck!!

Hello! I am new to the unnamed team! I have been reading this thread though and feel like I am getting to know you all already.

I am doing my first 5K on Aug 28 and planning to do a couple more events before it gets so cold and snowy that they all going into hiding.

I am 37 and married to a non-runner {power lifter} and have two kids DS is 3 and DD will be 9 next month. I am brand new to running. I didn't get out yesterday - and now I am a bit achy from this morning.

I am planning on the Princess 1/2 as my first Disney event and my first solo trip to WDW.
I have to get ready for a meeting I have at 9 but I wanted to say hello first!

Thanks for heading this group up Matt!

Hello and welcome! :)

((I am doing the Diva Half in Long Island, NY on Oct 3 --- my goal is to reduce my time by something because like many people who do their first half I did walk some too))
I have a friend who is doing that too!

So I did it. I signed up for the WDW half in January!
:thumbsup2:cool1:

:rotfl::rotfl: oh yes.. I feel the sweepers too!

DO NOT be disappointed in yourself! you still have a plan and I think your plan is actually quite smart.. try to go a 5K a month and maybe throw in a 10K in the fall and I think you will be fine for the Princess! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

for those running in January.. have you guys made hotel reservations yet? we can now make room only reservations and I am still trying to decide if I want to stay at POR or save some cash and stay at a value... I've only stayed at POP.. but how are the all stars?? or are they pretty much all the same?

Ah...apparently we all have a deep fear of the dreaded sweepers. :lmao: Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one!

Oh, me too. After my Princess time I was pretty sure I would finish the RnR, but I still feared the sweepers.

When I was training for Princess 2010 and was telling the people around me that I was taking up running, I got a lot of "I only run when chased" comments. My response was always, I *am* being chased... I am running from the sweepers!!

how are your shins feeling now?? are you still going to run the 10 miler? if so good luck!!

I am going to play it by ear. Still a little sore but I have been putting a pain patch on the last day or so which is helping.

Tonight I visited an old friend of mine... 5K. Ah felt good. It's been a stressful week at work and needed to get the energy out somewhere. Anyway....
My name's Katie I'm and ER nurse in Charleston, SC. I'm married (to someone on the boards) for 3 years and have a beautiful daughter who just turned 13 months. In an attempt to get in better shape last winter I trained for the Royal Family 5K. After seeing how much fun a Disney race is and after being prodded by my friends who are much more experienced runners I decided to do the Princess next year.

It's HOT as heck here so I've been running on the treadmill.

Heard from a friend that RnR is coming to Savannah! Haven't told DH yet but we'll be going. :cool1:

Welcome Katie!

Wow, we sure have a lot of Carolina representation in this group so far! I'm glad! I might actually run into some of you!

I made my 2 1/2 mile goal last night. It was humid, but not as bad as Tuesday. Next week it's supposed to be in the 80's here, no 90's so I think I will do even better.

I'm not signed up for any races yet, my birthday trip is taking up a chunk of my budget. I'll just have to cheer you all on.:goodvibes

I'll be finished with c25k in 2 weeks, still trying to decide what to do next.
