Hey, so 2 decent runs this weekend - one 7 mile yesterday, one ~11-12 mile today. Decent pace (7:15 or so). Towards the end of the run today things were just clicking in. I had hurt my knee a few months ago and it really messed up my ability to get into the groove. Hopefully by Oct 31 I'll be able to get right into my groove for MCM.

Sadly DisBoards isnt letting me update the poll, so I'll probably spawn us a new thread on Monday and include all of the other new names and we can have a real poll. I def like them, love the idea of intertwining some of the major rides.

Hi and Welcome Carmel, Jenna, Shannon, Beth, Allison, and Jen! :yay:

I look forward to getting to know you.

Matt, your 7:15 pace is the stuff of my dreams.

Ok, I'm going to show my ignorance here, but where is this? I might actually have the 14th free (what a novelty!)

ETA: Nevermind, that's the Outer Banks one, right? I wonder if I could get all the way there. Hmm...

ETA x2: Seriously? A 3:30pm finish time?? Wow. That is SERIOUSLY walker friendly. I wonder how I could convince DH to let me go up there so soon after the Myrtle Beach race weekend. That would be so cool. I've been wanting to go see Kitty Hawk and everything for a while anyway!

Let me know!! At least 3-4 of us from my running club are doing this together, as well as another friend of mine from out of town. My running club has over 450 people, goes by average pace and this is a popular one for us, so I can get you hooked up with whichever group you are comfortable with, if you want to run with others.

No long run for me this week. Recovery from the half last weekend, and I caught a cold while on a biz trip in San Antonio last week. I was gone from July 28th-Aug 7th, between the Chicago half and the work trip, and today I am resting on the couch and trying to kick this cold.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!!

Thanks Kat!

I think I'll wait and see how Myrtle Beach goes. If I survive, and OBX is still open for registration, I'll look and see if it still fits in with our calendar. My DH may start getting a little fussy if I start taking solo trips every other weekend! :lmao: And, I doubt he'd go for letting me drag him and the kids up there and then leaving them alone for a few hours while I do the half.

Sometimes it would be much more convenient to be single. :rotfl2:

It's definitely at the FRONT of the back of my mind though. I need to write it down. If that doesn't work out, I might be interested in the Half they have there in April. That one looks fun as well.

My long run this weekend was a 16 miler. Didn't finish strong, but at least I got the miles in, more walking than running at the end than I would have liked. The numbers just keep getting higher until DL Labor Day weekend. At least I should then be able to run a strong 1/2, maybe even a DL PR! :cool1: Matt- definitely jealous of your pace. :worship: I dream of getting down to a 10minute pace! Don't know about you guys back east, but out here, I am beginning to see changes in the time and sunrises. A month ago at 5:30, it was getting lighter, and this morningI was out and it wasn't like until like 6-6:15.

Hey Leigh, I saw a clip this morning of Tebow and the Broncos made him shave part of his head!! It was like Friar Tuck from Robin Hood. I felt so bad for him. I was looking at LSU's schedule today and d-day is 10/8 in the Swamp.! :woohoo:

Hi and welcome to all the new people!!

Feeling like a big ol slacker...my longest run this weekend was 4 miles...starting a new job on Tuesday too so that is going to be hard to get a new schedule down...plus I have been using the heat as an excuse not to run as well :headache: Hopefully I am not swept during the wine&dine half :rotfl: I need that medal!!!

Hi everyone -

Just got the link, that this is where I belong ;)

As far as an intro: I am married to the love of my life and we have four children 13, 11 and twins 7. I am 35 been married for 14 years but together for 20 this Jan 2011 (yes since I was 16-LOL)

I have a masters in counseling, and I am a college professor and also work for an aupair agency --- since without my aupair I would be a mess!

Needless to say last June I signed for the Princess knowing I was having surgical spine surgery on my neck. Bottom line I have a plate and 6 screws and cadavor bone in my neck. So 7 months post op I ran the princess and fell in love (((when I was on the plane home))) LOL --- finished in 2:46, had problems with my trap muscles which caused me to walk about 2 miles off and on.

Needless to say - I have been running off and on since and I am currently training for the DIVA Half in Long Island in NY in Oct. I have booked my hotel for the Princess again too.

Right now, I have some minor lower back issues and will have an MRI on Tue morning so I can not run hills until I am clear. I told my dr that even if something needs to be done with my back it has to wait until March -- unless of course it is so major it cant wait...........but clearly that is not my thought process I dont even have a follow up appt for the MRI results, told the dr if he needs me call other wise I will assume I have the all clear

I am a late runner, as I do my training on my TM until the heat wave passes in NJ. So tonight around 10 I will do my LR for week 2 of the Marathonrookie plan of 5 miles.

I am having shin issues so I have been wearing compression sleeves which really seem to be helping!!

Happy running :)

((DO I have to post my weekly miles somewhere or what do I need to do?)

/
swim-mom, I think I need to look into compression sleeves if they help with shins? I had a LOT of trouble with my shins at the Chicago RnR half last weekend.

Glad to see you here!

I've def heard good things about compression clothing for helping with recovery and performance. Havent really used it before (excluding the when I'm off cycle and my real clothing fits like compression clothing - but thats a whole other story).

swimmom - no you def dont have to post your weekly mileage or anything like that. I dont think we've really put together any kind of ground rules, but we seem to be a pretty laid back group of people. I'd say just making sure you hop on and say hi like once a week would be enough. as you can see from previous threads little sidebars def pop up and questions/comments are sent to the group. Some of us like posting mileage etc because we have the group to hold us accountable.

I'm definately seeing changes in the sunrise. I row so thats obviously super early in the morning. We have to have lights on our boats again because its dark when launching now.

I also really need to learn to consolidate postings - another one of my fatal flaws.

Have to tell you it felt AWESOME running outside today.. I am a stay at home mom with a 7 year old and a 3 year old so my weekday runs consist of me running on the treadmill watching my sons play wii! :rotfl: But its okay, I actually don't mind the treadmill.. but I do my longer runs on the weekend outside.. and it was nice hitting the trail today.

Anyone post their miles on Dailymile? its a pretty cool site to track your workouts.. if you do, here's my link to add me as a friend! :thumbsup2

Decent pace?!? :lmao: I would kill for your pace!! :lmao: ;) Great runs though.. I really can't wait to get up there.

Fabulous run Kim!! remind me again, are you running the 1/2 in Jan or the princess?

and yes.. :rotfl: I saw what they did to my poor Tebow.. but he took it well.. he's such a good sport and an all around great guy.. ;) BRING IT on the 8th!!!;):thumbsup2

you are not a slacker!! you ran longer than me! but you have probably been at it longer than me too! you won't be swept and I know what you mean about the medal.. I am running the 1/2 so I will get the Donald.. but I want the Mickey!!! :lmao: I guess I may have to train for the full in 2012!

WELCOME Swim-mom! :wave2:

I do daily mile, and just added you. :)

Treadmill is my venue of choice during the summer for short runs. Just too hot out there!

I went running this evening. I have been "stuck" running 2 miles for about 6 weeks. I am very comfortable running that distance and for some odd reason was scared to increase it at all. Tonight I went running with a friend and she had a 3.5 mile loop she likes to run - I ran 3.5 miles tonight and kept a 12.52 pace. I was so happy to finally break that 2 mile barrier. I know I can run longer than 2 miles and tonight I finally did it. I ran with my new garmin for the 1st time and it was great to have - it was fun to plug it in afterward and see all of my information.

I woke up early with the intention of running 10 miles. However, my kids would not get up. They have been riding their bikes ahead of me (my hubby is military and often away). Hopefully I will figure out how to get that run back in this week. Tomorrow is stretch and strengthen day :)

Thanks for the warm welcome! ;)

I did my LR to end week 2 of the marathonrookie plan - 5 miles in 58 minutes!! For me, I did it under an hour even if it was just 2 minutes short of an hour it was still under and hour :) Poor hubby was up until midnight, because I got off the TM at 11:58pm

Not sure if I could keep that pace up, but god willing I am going to try :rotfl2::rotfl2:

To think next weeks LR is 6, is hard to swallow ---- then again I know I can do it because I did it before when I was training for the Princess. But to be honest..............that seems like it never happened!!:laughing:

Up in 6 hours, assuming I can get my body to relax and be asleep by 1am.

***********QUESTION****************

I have a couple of friends who are marathon runners and are telling me to start doing a Recovery drink?????

TO be honest, I have only ever used chocolate milk after 4 miles or Carniation Instant Breakfast -- depends on what I want to drink.

Is anyone familiar with WHEY PROTEIN and using that as a recovery drink?

I am going to post on the main board too ---- but honestly I have no clue.

Help.............

swim-mom, I think I need to look into compression sleeves if they help with shins? I had a LOT of trouble with my shins at the Chicago RnR half last weekend.

Glad to see you here!

Kat please look into them!!!! They truly make an amazing differance, without them I dont think I could run at all. For example, I ran tonight took them off to get in the shower and then put them back on to ICE and then will sleep in them. Then I will put them back on when I am done for the day and again sleep with them to provide the extra support. So when Tue am is here - I wont wear them until I run again either Tue or Wed night.

I also started to use my roller, not a foam roller, and that too took the knot out of the shin today too.

I do suggest not getting the flaming yellow ones like mine, the neighbors give me dirty looks -:laughing::laughing: I think a simple white or black is a better idea.

I'm a huge fan of chocolate milk as a recovery drink. I never really did anything else, but after the Washington DC Triathlon, they had this Pom Smoothie Bar set up (they're new recovery product). It was like 95 degrees at the finish so anything blended and frozen was right up my alley. But I was seriously not sore at all the next day, and I did it at a pretty decent clip (if we forget about that whole swim leg that is).

Basically a recovery drink is designed to replace what you lost and to promote healing and recovery by providing protein, vitamins, etc. There are several products out there that cater to different tastes, Muscle Milk, the Pom drink, Gatorade G3. Chocolate Milk is also an excellent one as it has the proteins and sugars.

I would love to join your Wish Team

My name Is Jo, I'm in Illinois, married, working mom of 2 girls. My girls are my whole world.
I set my sights on the 2011 Princess in Nov last year when my father (57) had a 3x bypass as well as lots more issue. I knew then that I do not want me kids to worry about me the way I worry about him.

I was on DIS before that planning our trip to WDW for my girls in the fall of 09, while on DIS I found this amazing thread of women who were training for the 1/2 this year and I was hooked. I have done a 5K and a 4 mile race, my short runs have been 2.5 miles and my long 3.5-4.5 I hope to step that up soon. Planing for a 15K in the fall. (crossing my fingers)

As far as a team name suggestion. (don't laugh).. Team Wishing the Distance???? Not great, but I had to post something.
