soooo guess what I bought! A jogging stroller! :cool1: I am sooo super excited!! and yes, I feel like a dork being this excited but I really am excited! :lmao: NOW, hopefully I can push my 38lb 3 year old in it!:lmao:
I don't want to do all my week runs on the treadmill.. so this way I will get out there more and he can come with me.. I am excited! I should get it tomorrow! :thumbsup2

After my horrible run Monday I had a wonderful run this evening!!! 4 miles and I only stopped once to grab a drink of water!!!! YAY!!!!:goodvibes

SEEEEEEEE! I told you! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:cool1:

I have a lot of catching up to do on the threads. But someone told me this the other day that I will share now:

As soon as you cross the STARTING line, congratulate yourself and give yourself a pat on the back because you've already gone farther than most people.
:thumbsup2 you got that right! I like that quote.. have to steal it!

So I had a great 7 miler yesterday and a nice easy 5 this morning. The sunrise was absolutely incredible. It was hitting the hills and the colors were amazing. You just gotta love the things you see running sometimes.

Gotta finish packing this morning and then wait a long 20 hours until we leave for Disneyland tomorrow morning!!! :yay: Then we pick my sister at the airport and on to the park we go!!

Saturday morning, got the 5K with my dad and sister. Nice and easy though, probably walking more than running. And then Sunday morning is the Disney 1/2 and hopefully a PR!

Don't know whether I am more excited for the races, DL, college football or the Halloween stores opening next week(my favorite holiday:cloud9:). Got my LSU purple and yellow nail polish on and hopefully, fingers crossed, we can get into ESPN Zone Saturday night for the game!

Hi to all the new people and I hope everyone has a great Labor Day weekend, and some good runs too!

:cheer2: Geaux Tigers!! :cheer2:
what a weekend you will have!! Have a fabulous time this weekend and have a great race!! I hope you are going to start the year out right and WATCH the game!! you can't DVR it at ESPN!!! :rotfl2:

I got the itch the other night. I felt a cool breeze while DH and I were out and about so I ran outside..... AWESOMENESS! I can't believe how great it was. I didn't have to look at the same corner of my living room AND I ran 12:30 min/mile for two miles which is absolutely unheard of in my running career. I was so psyched that after working an excessively stressful shift at work last night and getting to bed after midnight I got up at 0550 this AM so I could do my long run outside before DH went to work. Did 4 miles in 54:18. This pace is also unheard of me. So glad to be out again. Hope this cooler weather at night continues. I think there isn't going to be much treadmilling in the future.

WTG!!! :thumbsup2

I second the catching up...I go to work and am off the boards for 9 hours and feel overwhelmed with what I've missed.

I second the feelings on finishing. You finished and bask in that glory. You have to finish the first before you can think about coming back and setting a PR.

I hope all are safe from Earl. I was quite sore after my 5K {8/29} so I haven't done a lot this week, then I got sick so I am getting behind again. I am still very new to running and brand new to doing distance events - is there a recovery time after an event? Should I start over after the weekend, take off a few days, just walk? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I am sure I was super sore since I hardly trained at all the last two weeks before the event. Apparently this is going to be a constant struggle for me. I am hoping to get a treadmill in the next few months so that even if I cannot get away from the house to run, I won't miss out. Also thinking that with the winter weather, there will be many days, it will be dangerous to run outside. Icy, snowy, roads and sidewalks plus all the crazy drivers ;)

I am wishing everyone a safe and happy weekend!

Hope that everyone has a great labor day weekend and has time to get in some great runs as well :goodvibes

Hey everyone, sorry about being MIA, work called you know. Got a 5-6 miler in this morning. Gonna get 13 or so in tomorrow. Maybe more, we'll see. I'm going to be launching the new thread soon with the bio's/race goals. So keep a lookout. Obviously there's lots of copying and pasting from the bios you guys all originally posted, and change requests/updates/etc will be gladly accepted but I'll want to get something up there soon.

Ran my first 5k today! I couldn't have asked for a more beautiful morning. I have another picked out to do next month.

Have a great weekend!

I got in my scheduled 8 miles this morning and did it in 2hr4min. So, 15:25 per mile. That's good for me walking!

I got a pair of Nike LunarRacers in the other day and I was so excited to try them. They were touted on a Racewalking site as a good pair for walkers because they were responsive and easy to 'roll through' when you walk. I did my 3 miles in them the other night and I hated them! I was so disappointed. I was hoping they'd be exactly what I needed, and they really were cool shoes, literally had no weight at all. But, that meant no cushioning at all, and I felt like I was running hard on pavement with nothing on. I know there's a push for barefoot running and perhaps they'll work better as I get accustomed to them, but they weren't the perfect miracle shoes I was hoping for. :lmao: So, I went back to the Nike's I've been using. I'm still just hoping I'll come across that perfect shoe!

It's really too bad that they don't have sample shoes you can go out and do 5 miles or so in to really find out if they work for you or not. I hate only being able to put on a pair and jog around in the store. I honestly don't know what's going to work or not until after 3 miles in. *sigh*

So Meredith, are you walking or running or both? The thing with Lunars, or any other minimal -type shoe, is that you really have to have a light stride & preferably one that lands you on the mid to forefoot, where your foot and leg are going to provide the cushion. If you haven't done this already, try a tiny jog in barefeet--you'll see that you really have to control how hard you hit the ground. If you're walking, a minimal shoe probably isn't going to provide enough cushion, as you discovered.

Nike has an unbelievably cushioned shoe that's super light. Nike Zoom Vomero +5. I mean this shoe is like running on a memory foam cloud. It was actually too cushioned for me, but I'm leaning more toward barefoot most of the time now, mainly because I couldn't find a shoe I was comfy in for the long runs. I still haven't done barefoot for anything over 5, so I'm still on the search for a longer-run shoe myself.

Good luck!!:goodvibes

I hope everyone is having a nice holiday weekend! I had to work today, but managed to get off a little early, so I'm home now. I'm contemplating either doing 3 miles on the treadmill or taking a nap. I haven't decided yet. :lmao: (In my defense, I was up with a sick little one the last two nights, so I probably NEED a nap more at this point :lmao: )

So, I gave in and did my 5K on the treadmill while the kids attempted to entertain themselves. :lmao: I did it in 46 minutes though, which is really good for me! I'm hoping to get two more 5K distances in this week before I do my 5K at the beach this weekend. I'm hoping to have some nice chat time with my sister during the 5K on Saturday. I'm really looking forward to it!

Hope everyone had a great weekend!!!
I got my 5 miles in on Sunday while pushing my 38lb son in his jogging stroller :thumbsup2 do I get extra brownie points for that? ;) well I think I do so I rewarded my self with a nice big ol ice cream cone!:lmao:

I watched part of the game. I got really sick on Saturday, so I watched a little on and off. Had to change at the end though, they almost lost it! Good luck on your 5K this weekend! :cheer2:

The race itself was perfect! Me, not so much. There were tons of cheer groups/spectators along the way and we had coastal fog the entire time. I got sick though on Saturday night, so I had low energy Sunday morning. But I got there and I finished it, I think my time was 3:10, almost 3:09. I was hoping to break 2:40, but being sick, I think I did great. Went to the park a little bit yesterday afternoon and walked around after so that was fun. Legs a little sore today, but not that bad. I'm going to do a couple tomorrow morning, and then going up to my parents cabin with my sister for a couple of days, so hopefully will get in a 7-8 miler with hills and altitude.

Good luck on runs this week!!

Sounds like you did great, sick or not, that still sounds like great time!

BIG brownie points from me! I've done 3 w/ a stroller & it's so much more difficult!

Just wanting to check in! I'm doing C25K Wk 8/Day2 tonight. 2.75 miles :scared1: I'm 23 days away from the Mickey 5K (and my very 1st!), and I'm starting to have nightmares. :guilty: And of course, training isn't going nearly as strong as it was a week or so go. Nonetheless, onward and upward!!

Anyone from here doing Mickey's Halloween 5K on Oct 2nd??

I am doing the Halloween 5K! I'm really looking forward to it and trying to decide if I should dress up or not. :)

How are you doing with your training? Are you close to the 16 Min/Mile pace requirement? It sounds like you are close to the mileage at 2.75 miles!

You shouldn't have any nightmares! The Royal Family 5K I did last March was a great experience! It was my first race ever and I had just started "running" about 6-7 weeks prior to the race! I traveled solo and enjoyed everything from check-in to the expo to the race! The only thing I would have done differently would have been to bring my camera to the race. (Oh and to bring some cash - I would have liked to have purchased a hot drink at the race because it was in the 30's that morning!)

Fortunately, I had a better run tonight! I'm on Wk8/Day2. I did the 2.75 miles, with an average pace of 15:03. I was happy with that! I used 5 run/2.5 walk intervals. I started the program at the end of June, but I started out in such a de-conditioned state, I will seriously be thrilled to finish and not be swept!

I've decided not to dress up, but I can't wait to see what everyone else wears. It should entertain me for the 3+ miles! :thumbsup2:

Thanks for the encouragement and sharing your experience. Nightmares aside, I'm really looking forward to this! (My DH just says this just proves I'll do anything for a trip to Disney! :rotfl:)

That is wonderful! It sounds like you are definitely on track with your training. :thumbsup2

Don't worry about being swept or anything else about the race. Just keep focused on your training, and I'm sure you will be just fine. Disney may bend the rules a little on pace with the fun runs too...so I have heard...though for my 5K, I really didn't want to chance anything. I kept going and didn't stop for any pictures with characters. I only paused a bit a the water stops. :)

There is so much going on and so much to look at - other runners, characters, the wonderful volunteers cheering you on, on course music that Disney pipes in, etc. The run really was over before I was ready for it to be over. The time went by very quickly. You will want a longer race when finished with the 5K! I surely did! And don't miss the photographer for pictures at the end of the race. They are also positioned along the race too. So keep your head up and smile. Especially at the finish line!

Congratulations everyone with your good progress! It has been a busy couple of weeks and difficult to keep up with all of your posts!

I decided to give myself a little break this week and take an easy week with training before I go for 11 next weekend. When I get into the upper mileage, it has really been getting difficult. Even when taking walking breaks. I get so fatigued after about mile 7 or 8, I wonder how I am going to finish out the last several miles in a half marathon! I guess I will just trust in the training plan (or my modified version of it) and hope the race day excitement will carry me through, as claimed in the book! :) Probably go at a slower pace too (a planned slower pace :) ).

Recently, however, I was in a race that gave me a pace fast enough to be able to submit proof of time. I had 2 hours of sleep the night before the race, wasn't feeling so great the morning of the race either. I don't know where the "speed" came from. I started in the back of the pack behind all of the pace groups. I had to confirm with my fellow runners that this race was "walker friendly" because the last pace group was 13 min/mile! (Where were the 15 min/milers???) I don't know how I did it, but I finished and got my proof of time! Unbelievable! No one was more surprised than I was. DH almost missed me finishing the race because I was so much faster than my estimated time. I thought the race mileage must have been miscalculated! LOL... :)
