Ugh what a disappointing run this evening. I was set out to do 4 miles and only finished 3 and that was mostly walking :sad2: I am chalking it up to the fact that it is SO hot outside and I felt sort of sick after mile 2...but still not happy about it!

Am I too late to join in the fun??? Hope not! I've been following along and really enjoying it. And I feel especially at home with the other Tarheels here and others who've I've gotten to "know" on other threads!

By way of introduction, I'm really new to running-- I began at the end of this past June because I needed to exercise for weight loss and the thought of running a 5K through the Magic Kingdom was too much to resist! So I started the C25K program and am currently on Week 6/Day 1. Wanting something else to focus and motivate me after the Oct 2 5K, I'll begin training for the Princess Half when I get back home.

I've loved discovering the WISH boards and benefiting from such tremendous knowledge and inspiration that is so generously shared! But I've always known Disney people are some of the best people!

I have a couple of random thoughts on a team name... That is if ideas are still being accepted. How about Rock N Rollercoasters? (or Rock N Rollerrunners) :) I also thought of Big Thunder Mountain Runners. I obviously liked the earlier idea of using popular rides as inspiration!

Welcome!!! I too am a graduate of the couch to 5K.. great program! I started it back in Jan and completed my 1st 5K in April.. My dh is currently on week 4 of the program.. and isn't running in Disney a great motivator!!

Today was my long run day. I did 4.6 miles. I really need to find a local running partner. I need someone to push me when I feel like i need to walk. Since if i start walking in the second half of my run I have a hard time starting running again.

great run! I did 4.5 on Sunday.. and I had to stop and walk 3 times for about 30s - a minute.. but you know what.. that little stop keeps me going longer.. I swear my legs feel so much better if I give them a little break once they really start to fatigue.

I had my first official 'race nightmare' last night. I dreamt I had made it down to the Myrtle Beach Half Marathon that I have scheduled in less than 2 months. I was there with a friend. For some reason, she was holding me back and we didn't get to the Expo to pick up our bibs until it was too late. I broke in anyway but ended up in the wrong line and was mortified. (Although I ended up in the line for fried chicken, so I guess it could have been worse :lmao: ).

Then, race morning, I couldn't get out and didn't make it to the start. I saw the runners go past, and I couldn't get there in time. I was so upset!

Talk about a case of the subconscious jitters! I didn't realize I was THAT nervous! :confused3

OH MY! :rotfl:thank goodness its only a dream right!!!

I have been trying for weeks to get DH interested in losing weight with me. He has indirectly been losing weight since I don't keep any junk in the house anymore. This weekend while we were visiting Mickey's House I told him that we both could get 10 bucks for every pound we can lose between this week and when we go to WDW in December. I think I finally caught his attention.

Ate lots of junky food this weekend and WOW did it make me feel awful. Had an awesome time during our whirlwind trip, but I am so glad to be home and eating healthier food. Getting my sparkpeople tracking solid. If you want to find me on there I'm KRohrbachRN.

I have a 2.5 miles date with the treadmill tonight, too. Can't wait!

great incentive!!!

LOVE LOVE LOVE that quote! Thanks for the inspiration.

Rough 2.5 tonight, but I finished and that was a big feat. I can't believe how I've deconditioned in just 6 days not running but since my breathing isn't quite up to par yet I am going to celebrate it. It's hard to be that tough on yourself when you're coughing. Shins are bothing me..... going to put ice on them.

Has anybody ever gotten one of those running analysis things done where they study your gait and help you find better shoes? I think this might help me but I was wondering what everyone else's experiences have been.

I couldn't agree more with this quote. When I crossed the finish line for the Princess 2010, my first thought was, when's the next one??

This coming from someone who had to be convinced to do the Princess in the first place!! I never expected to do even one half marathon, and would have laughed you clear out of my house if at this time last year you told me I would do 2 half marathons by Aug 2010, and have 2 more scheduled this year.

Welcome MamaCrush!!

I did, back in April. I went to two different stores in Charlotte and they both basically told me the same thing (although I was more convinced the second time I heard it). They measured my arch on one of those pads and then measured my protonation by computer with me on the treadmill. The second place had me on camera on the treadmill, but just eyeballed it instead of using any computer. Basically, I learned I had a high arch (which I knew) and almost completely neutral protonation. I wasn't sure of that because I sure felt like my feet were turning, but both places said it and I saw the video, so it must be so. :lmao: My issue at the time was that I was wearing shoes with a little bit of side stabilization in them, and was actually OVER stabilizing and killing my knees. Weird. I'm glad I went, because I definitely would have kept buying shoes with stabilizers thinking that I needed them!

Meredith, do you mind telling me which stores you went to? I'm actually starting to look for a place who can do this for me.

Thanks NCrunner, DisneyBound and Kat! So good to be here! :)

Tonight my DTM (dear treadmill....) and I will be doing 25 mins continuous running (W7D2). At Coach's suggestion I'm going to just run for the time this week instead of running the distance of 2.5 miles.

Hope everyone is training well these days!

Yes! I went to TrySports on Rea Road first. They had the computer set up with the treadmill to measure your protonation better. I didn't find any shoes I liked there though even though they had a large selection, so I went to Run For Your Life. I think there are a few of those, but I went to the one in Piper Glen (way on the other end of Rea Road) and they had the treadmill with the video camera so you could watch your placement on the big TV. I ended up buying shoes there since they carried Nikes (which I am partial to anyway) and the salesgirl was REALLY nice and helpful.

I'd recommend both of those places and I'm sure some of the other Run For Your Life locations are nice too!

I have problem feet (severe flat footedness) and have even gone to a ortho guy, but I decided against the surgery he recommended. So I know from him that I have extreme pronation, so the computer analysis probably isn't that important for me. We have a R4YL store in the University Area, so I may check them out. Thanks!

Don't know where everyone's cities are back east/down south, but I hope you are safe from the incoming hurricane!!:grouphug:

Thanks Kim!!

I am about 3 hours east of where it should hit (Outer Banks), so should be fine. I doubt we will even get any of the outer bands.

Now to hope that Fiona doesn't cause me grief at WDW next week!

I'm definitely hoping that it continues on it's projected path and doesn't stall much (so it won't hit us either!). Ah, you've gotta love hurricane season. Especially in the Carolinas. It seems like most of the projections aim right for us. It looks like it's going to be an especially active year too. I suppose it should have been expected since we've had a few quiet years in a row...

After my horrible run Monday I had a wonderful run this evening!!! 4 miles and I only stopped once to grab a drink of water!!!! YAY!!!!:goodvibes

Wow, I wish we had a similar store here in southern NJ! I did go to the local "experts" who put me in stabilizing shoes & I wound up with the same problem w/ my kness. Then went to another "expert" who said I was neutral. Then went to a sports medicine doc who said I should wear orthodics or quit running. So you know what I did??? Ditched em all & now I'm wearing Vibrams! :goodvibes HA! I will say I still have lower leg pain, but it really seems to be mostly from fatigue, rather than an injury type thing. As long as I let em rest they're ok.

I would really love to find a good shoe that's a match for me though for long runs. I'm just not in that good of shape yet to wear the VFFs on long runs, especially on pavement.

And btw, I LOVE this!:

I have a lot of catching up to do on the threads. But someone told me this the other day that I will share now:

As soon as you cross the STARTING line, congratulate yourself and give yourself a pat on the back because you've already gone farther than most people.

So I had a great 7 miler yesterday and a nice easy 5 this morning. The sunrise was absolutely incredible. It was hitting the hills and the colors were amazing. You just gotta love the things you see running sometimes.

Gotta finish packing this morning and then wait a long 20 hours until we leave for Disneyland tomorrow morning!!! :yay: Then we pick my sister at the airport and on to the park we go!!

Saturday morning, got the 5K with my dad and sister. Nice and easy though, probably walking more than running. And then Sunday morning is the Disney 1/2 and hopefully a PR!

Don't know whether I am more excited for the races, DL, college football or the Halloween stores opening next week(my favorite holiday:cloud9:). Got my LSU purple and yellow nail polish on and hopefully, fingers crossed, we can get into ESPN Zone Saturday night for the game!

Hi to all the new people and I hope everyone has a great Labor Day weekend, and some good runs too!

:cheer2: Geaux Tigers!! :cheer2:

I got the itch the other night. I felt a cool breeze while DH and I were out and about so I ran outside..... AWESOMENESS! I can't believe how great it was. I didn't have to look at the same corner of my living room AND I ran 12:30 min/mile for two miles which is absolutely unheard of in my running career. I was so psyched that after working an excessively stressful shift at work last night and getting to bed after midnight I got up at 0550 this AM so I could do my long run outside before DH went to work. Did 4 miles in 54:18. This pace is also unheard of me. So glad to be out again. Hope this cooler weather at night continues. I think there isn't going to be much treadmilling in the future.
