Ugh what a disappointing run this evening. I was set out to do 4 miles and only finished 3 and that was mostly walking
I am chalking it up to the fact that it is SO hot outside and I felt sort of sick after mile 2...but still not happy about it!

Am I too late to join in the fun??? Hope not! I've been following along and really enjoying it. And I feel especially at home with the other Tarheels here and others who've I've gotten to "know" on other threads!
By way of introduction, I'm really new to running-- I began at the end of this past June because I needed to exercise for weight loss and the thought of running a 5K through the Magic Kingdom was too much to resist! So I started the C25K program and am currently on Week 6/Day 1. Wanting something else to focus and motivate me after the Oct 2 5K, I'll begin training for the Princess Half when I get back home.
I've loved discovering the WISH boards and benefiting from such tremendous knowledge and inspiration that is so generously shared! But I've always known Disney people are some of the best people!
I have a couple of random thoughts on a team name... That is if ideas are still being accepted. How about Rock N Rollercoasters? (or Rock N Rollerrunners)I also thought of Big Thunder Mountain Runners. I obviously liked the earlier idea of using popular rides as inspiration!
Today was my long run day. I did 4.6 miles. I really need to find a local running partner. I need someone to push me when I feel like i need to walk. Since if i start walking in the second half of my run I have a hard time starting running again.
I had my first official 'race nightmare' last night. I dreamt I had made it down to the Myrtle Beach Half Marathon that I have scheduled in less than 2 months. I was there with a friend. For some reason, she was holding me back and we didn't get to the Expo to pick up our bibs until it was too late. I broke in anyway but ended up in the wrong line and was mortified. (Although I ended up in the line for fried chicken, so I guess it could have been worse).
Then, race morning, I couldn't get out and didn't make it to the start. I saw the runners go past, and I couldn't get there in time. I was so upset!
Talk about a case of the subconscious jitters! I didn't realize I was THAT nervous!![]()
I have been trying for weeks to get DH interested in losing weight with me. He has indirectly been losing weight since I don't keep any junk in the house anymore. This weekend while we were visiting Mickey's House I told him that we both could get 10 bucks for every pound we can lose between this week and when we go to WDW in December. I think I finally caught his attention.
Ate lots of junky food this weekend and WOW did it make me feel awful. Had an awesome time during our whirlwind trip, but I am so glad to be home and eating healthier food. Getting my sparkpeople tracking solid. If you want to find me on there I'm KRohrbachRN.
I have a 2.5 miles date with the treadmill tonight, too. Can't wait!

found a great quote for us all
"When you cross the finish line, no matter how slow or fast, it will change your life forever" (Dick Beardsley, Spirit of the Marathon movie)
LOVE LOVE LOVE that quote! Thanks for the inspiration.
Rough 2.5 tonight, but I finished and that was a big feat. I can't believe how I've deconditioned in just 6 days not running but since my breathing isn't quite up to par yet I am going to celebrate it. It's hard to be that tough on yourself when you're coughing. Shins are bothing me..... going to put ice on them.
Has anybody ever gotten one of those running analysis things done where they study your gait and help you find better shoes? I think this might help me but I was wondering what everyone else's experiences have been.

I did, back in April. I went to two different stores in Charlotte and they both basically told me the same thing (although I was more convinced the second time I heard it). They measured my arch on one of those pads and then measured my protonation by computer with me on the treadmill. The second place had me on camera on the treadmill, but just eyeballed it instead of using any computer. Basically, I learned I had a high arch (which I knew) and almost completely neutral protonation. I wasn't sure of that because I sure felt like my feet were turning, but both places said it and I saw the video, so it must be so.My issue at the time was that I was wearing shoes with a little bit of side stabilization in them, and was actually OVER stabilizing and killing my knees. Weird. I'm glad I went, because I definitely would have kept buying shoes with stabilizers thinking that I needed them!
Meredith, do you mind telling me which stores you went to? I'm actually starting to look for a place who can do this for me.
Yes! I went to TrySports on Rea Road first. They had the computer set up with the treadmill to measure your protonation better. I didn't find any shoes I liked there though even though they had a large selection, so I went to Run For Your Life. I think there are a few of those, but I went to the one in Piper Glen (way on the other end of Rea Road) and they had the treadmill with the video camera so you could watch your placement on the big TV. I ended up buying shoes there since they carried Nikes (which I am partial to anyway) and the salesgirl was REALLY nice and helpful.
I'd recommend both of those places and I'm sure some of the other Run For Your Life locations are nice too!
Don't know where everyone's cities are back east/down south, but I hope you are safe from the incoming hurricane!!![]()
I have problem feet (severe flat footedness) and have even gone to a ortho guy, but I decided against the surgery he recommended. So I know from him that I have extreme pronation, so the computer analysis probably isn't that important for me. We have a R4YL store in the University Area, so I may check them out. Thanks!
