I posted this thread on the main WISH board yesterday and someone suggested visiting Events/Competition and joining in here. So here I am.

I have been an on-again off-again runner for about 2 years now and have only ever run in 5Ks. I have a goal to run a half-marathon - the Princess Half Marathon, to be exact. I am a healthy and fairly fit 38 year old wife and mother of 2. Unfortunately, I let fear, doubt and a busy daily schedule stop me from sticking with any training routine. I heard Dave Parfit (sp?) talk about the WISH forum on a DIS unplugged podcast. He said this is the place for motivation and support, so here I am. I am interested in becoming a part of the WISH team and connecting with others with similar goals.

Two questions, is it too late to begin training for the WDW Princess Half Marathon in February 2012? and How do I go about becoming part of a WISH team?

It is definitely not too late to start training for the Princess Half for February 2012. My daughter talked me into running the Princess Half this year, and I am much older than you (57). It was October of last year when she came up with the idea and although I always spent time at a gym and kept fit, running was never a part of my fitness regime. So.....the next day I ran three slow miles (10 minute mile pace) on the treadmill and thought I would die. But....I perservered and followed an online program for beginning runners. We finished the race and I will run my second 1/2 marathon next week at Disneyland. You will love the atmosphere at the Princess race....so encouraging and fun.

I am not sure how you become a member of the WISH team, but I spend alot of time on these boards finding out more information about running etc. I am hoping to find a WISH pace group at the Disneyland half next week, but not sure how that will work out.

Happy Running!
Pam

Like Pam said, your not too late to start training for the Princess. If your goal is just to finish it, you just need to find a plan that fits with your lifestyle. For my first 2 halves, I used John Bingham/Jenny Hadfield's "Marathoning for Mortals" plan. I liked that it featured frequent cut back weeks to give your body a break every so often. I'm currently using one of Jeff Galloway's plans. I do run/walk where I run for a while then walk for a while.

Pam - I'm not sure logistically about trying to put together a WISH pace group. We all have different paces and starting corrals so it may be difficult. For example, you sould significantly faster than me. My current goal is to finish right around 3 hours.

Jeremy,
My goal is around 2:10. I have trained with that finish time in mind, but will wait to see how I feel on race day and what the conditions are. Training in the heat this summer has been a challenge, but most of all, I am looking forward to two medals at the end of the race.

Hope to see you in Disneyland!
Pam

You definitely have enough time to train for the Princess Half! I started training for the 2010 Disneyland Half Marathon about 5-6 months out and very early on hurt my knee. I worked with a physical therapist and got through it, and finished it (and didn't come in DFL).

So yes, I whole heartedly believe that you can do the Princess Half! :thumbsup2 Good luck! And have fun training!:cheer2:

If you need anymore inspiration specifically for the Princess Half, we do have a thread posted for questions and training updates. Official 2012 Princess Half Marathon Thread!

Thanks for the information. My goal is to finish. I am not going to focus on time this go round, just crossing the finish line in the time required to receive a medal. Thanks for the tip on the training plan. I am definitely going to check it out. I look forward to learning more about Disney races here. Now I just have to get my feet moving again. :)

Welcome to the Wish Team! By posting and chatting about your training and upcoming events you ate part of the Wish Team! It is great to have you here. You can get some idea of things from the Welcome Thread sticky at the top of this forum.

As for the Princess, yes! You have time, but you don't want to waste it. I would definitely look for some program to follow ex. John Bingham-I use this one, Jeff Galoway, or most any that you feel comfortable using. You might look online or at your library for examples.

Happy training! Come here to discuss your progress on WISH. We love to share that.
