walked onto the deck around 8:30 this evening, just as it was getting dark. heard a noise in the hickory tree. turns out it was a raccoon climbing up the tree. the raccoon looked at me, but didn't run away. instead, he played peekaboo with me. he put himself on the side of the tree where I couldn't see him. he would climb a few feet up the tree, then poke his head around the tree and stare at me. then he'd pull his head back, climb a bit more, and poke his head around the tree to statre at me. this went on until he reached the point where the branches hid him.

cute as a button. and not afraid of being near a human. though I doubt very much he would hav eclimbed off that tree and joined me on the deck. or if I'd want him to, either.

Oh neat! They have such funny little personalities too. Keep the camera nearby, because I bet he'll be around more......

he's not the only one -- I've had a few come up to the deck up to the sliding glass doors. they look into the house. but they run away if you open the door.
