Wish I had bought all my points at AKV

I have 160 AKV points and 113 BLT points. I wish they were all AKV; I wish I could always have my 11-month window at AKV and it would also be less confusing for me to keep track of my points.

Anything I can do short of having to sell my BLT points through a resale and buy AKV points instead. Since BLT is selling for more than AKV would DVC be able to do anything for us-----without us having to sign a bunch of papers and pay a bunch of closing costs......

I'm sure the answer is probably no, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask.....

Thanks,
Erin

Sorry, but no. Disney will not help you in this case. You would have to sell the BLT contract and purchase another AKV contract to get all your points at AKV. You would certainly lose money doing so.

Have you considered using banking and borrowing and then alternating your vacations between AKV & BLT? That way you would have the 11 month window for both resorts/

Another option is to do split stays. Book the first portion of your stay at AKV and the second portion at BLT. Again, you would have the 11 month window at both resorts, but you would of course, have to move in the middle of your stay. Some members enjoy split stays, though.

A third option would be to rent or transfer your BLT points and then use the proceeds to get AKV points transferred into your account. This could be a lot of work/hassle and may not work perfectly every year.

Sorry for your situation. Good luck!

Thanks, Carol! That's kind of what I thought......

What we were planning on doing is staying every third year at BLT with banking and borrowing to where we have zero points for two years and then 339 for the year we stay there. While I love the convenience of walking to the MK, I just really, really love AKV much more....and MS screwed things up for us this year and next year by using the wrong points when we segmented our reservation for different dining plans. So we have to modify our plans a little bit for the time being.

I used to rent points before I was a member- and I rented out a few points when we first became members. I have never transferred points- is that pretty easy? And do they have a 11-month advantage or do transferred points automatically become 7-months only?

Thanks,
Erin

IMO you should take your time and stay at all of the DVC resorts before you start changing contracts.

You thought that you wanted BLT and it turns out that you like AKV better. What if you end up liking VWL better than AKV?

It takes a few years before you really see what WDW and DVD is all about. In the beginning you have pixie dust in your eyes and you make emotional Disney decisions, later you see the resorts for what they really are and you are in a better frame of mind to make informed purchase decisions.

We also bought BLT without really getting a good feel for the resort. Due to theming and other issues, it is our least favorite. The great thing about Disney, and I hope that they don't screw it up, is that there are other great differently themed resorts to choose from.

Yeah, it was just kind of wishful thinking. I don't think I'll change contracts since I really hate the thought of spending a lot of money on just fixing something I wish I had done differently. We have stayed at SSR, AKV twice, and BLT. I really am not interested in OKW. I would like to stay at BCV one day. Oh, and when we rented points, we stayed at BWV. We love WL, but have not stayed at VWL. AKV has been my very favorite. We're not going to make any more rash decisions----at least not with DVC :rotfl2:

Why not just sell your BLT points, and buy more AKV points? BLT points are still selling for around $100, and AKV points are alot less - you could end up with more points at AVK than you had at BLT.

MS has messed up our points before on reservations by using the wrong points. If you call back, a supervisor can fix it - just explain what happened - if you haven't already taken the trip.

Went through the same thing when we first bought. We decided to buy VWL, what we thought was our 2nd choice resort, to get our foot in the door. We knew BLT was the resort for us, but figured it would work out best this way.

After two months, I knew it was a mistake so I sold it and re-bought BLT points. It was only a 50 point contract so the loss I took was bearable--around $400.

We have since found that we also love BWV and want home resort advantage at that resort as well. We couldnt' find a 100 point contract so I went with 150 with the understanding from DH that I sell the 30 point BLT I added on last year to offset the cost.

I decided it was worth it--even though I would be losing on the BLT points--to own what I really wanted. Because BLT sold for much higher than I bought BWV, in the end, the end result was the same of just buying 100 BWV at the price point we wanted.

So, if you really want to own AKV and not BLT, I say consider selling and re-buying the resale market. Just remember, resale points come with restrictions so that needs to be considered if you care about that.

I know my thinking is probably in the minority but for us, owning what we want so we can book what we want, when we want, without worry, is the most important part of owning DVC. At the end of the day, the small losses we incurred are outweighed by my peace of mind that I can book exactly where I want to be at 11 months.

Good luck with your decision!

We have our points at SSR, but this will be the 4th trip we stay at AKV. We go in October every year, and have had no problem making ressies at the 7 month window.

We have thought about an add-on, but I am concerned about the future of our travel plans. This will probably be the last year we can take our DD out of school, which means we either have to be more clever with our planning, or go during school breaks. I would prefer to not go during the busiest times, so this is one of the reasons I wont add-on until we figure out something.

I also have no problem if we had to stay at SSR because of booking windows, we love the resort. The funny thing is, each time I think about where would I buy, most of the resorts have something very appealing that would make me want to buy there

AKV & VWL - Our two favorite themes

BC / BWV - Location for EPCOT, (pool & beach at BC)

BLT - Love being able to walk to the monorail or MK.

I honestly dont think there is a bad choice. We love the SSR/OKW area, peaceful, walk over to DTD in the evenings. Each resort has a strong appeal, it would be a tough decision on where to add-on

I don't know I'd worry about taking a loss on the BLT points if you can get more AKV points than you sold the BLT points for. The end result is the points. So if you paid $110 for 20 BLT points and you sell them for $90, then buy 25 AKV points for $90, sounds like you still have more points. Obviously, depending on any financing this may not be possible since you'd have to pay off the loan.

Though, I'd heed DisneyNutz advice and take your time. It seems like BLT points will sell for more than AKV points for a while longer. That'll give you some time to check out other resorts.

Last, be sure to check online after to making a ressie to make sure the points came from the right contracts. That way you can call MS and get a supervisor to correct it (hopefully).

Enjoy!!

LOL! Well, first of all, you are again making a snap judgement much like you did when you purchased the BLT contract. NEVER assume you wont like a resort. You might think you have no interest in OKW, but so did a lot of other folks until they stayed there once.

My advice would be to spend a little time at each DVC resort before making any decisions. You will find you have definite likes and dislikes, and they might be different than what you first thought they would be.

FYI, we own most of our points at OKW in two contracts and a few at AKV in one small contract. We have used OKW points at AKV and and AKV points at OKW, but for the most part we use them as home resort points by booking at the 11 month window. In the case of AKV, we use 3 years worth at once, and then still sometimes add on with OKW points at the 7 month window. This year is our AKV year, and we are staying for 8 nights in a 1 bedroom at Kidani using 3 years of AKV points plus a few OKW points and even some one time purchase rental points from DVC.

Back when we added on our second contract, we knew it was best to have all our points at one place. Not only for the ease of bookkeeping, but also to make it easier to book longer stays at one place. I find I can make the 7 month window work just fine for me because I know when and where I can book at the 7 month window easily. The only reason I have a few points at AKV is so I have an opportunity to book CL sometimes. We stayed CL twice and loved it, but it was impossible to get this time even at 9:00 on the 11 month window. It seems when DVC changed the booking rule, it caused a lot of problems for those hard to get rooms. I finally gave up this time and just got a savanna view Kidani unit instead.

I have AKV points I would happily trade you for BLT points!
That sounds nice but it would mean an actual buying and selling of points. There's no operation for transferring points for good to another member.

What you COULD do is arrange a point transfer each and every year with a member in a reciprocal relationship. You give me X AKV points and I'll give you X BLT points. But you would need to adjust for value I think. For example a BLT point is more valuable than a AKV point.

Unfortunately that wouldn't work either due to the restriction of 1 transfer per year. If both owners had 2 UY's and could transfer from one and receive into the other it could work but I don't think that is the case here.
