WISH Away The Pounds No Excuses in November Challenge - Everyone Welcome!

My go-to foods for trying to lose weight are:

My own special recipe veggie chilli....eating it for lunch all week usually guarantees me around a 4lb loss if I'm careful with the other meals

Ready washed bagged salads.......add cooked meat and it's a very quick meal, particularly on evenings where I don't get home until 9:00pm, which is currently twice a week.

Baked Bean Lasagne...another weird and wonderful recipe from my slimming club, but it's great to grab out of the freezer in a morning and zap in the microwave at lunchtime.

We don't get a lot of low carb pre-prepared or packaged stuff in the UK, we concentrate more on low fat in the supermarkets. There is a lot of prepackaged stuff around preclaiming to be that, but I prefer to make my own. That's been one of the joys of this diet plan for me......I've started cooking from scratch again and am really enjoying it.

Hi all, I hope you all have a great Monday and a great start to November so far! I am about to fix myself a smoothie and some eggs for breakfast! I moved up my calories from 1200 to 1500, hopefully this isn't too much! I read so much online how 1200 wasn't enough, so hopefully six small meals a day fills up and slims me out!
For QOTD- I love smoothies for breakfast! I've gotten to the point where that's the only thing I want! :rotfl:
I've always been a big chicken fan, but lately I've been trying tuna and it's not bad! So my lunches have either been chicken or tuna! I haven't figured out a good supper yet, still working on that! And snacks I love string cheese and a piece of ham, it's a really good filling protein!

If we still need coaching spots, I would love to try it out for the week! Just let me!

Good morning all! :goodvibes

Yup, Notch is here! He was on stage at the opening ceremony:). Got a picture of him. Now it has been just a looooong giant line waiting for a meet greet...line is moving!......bbl!....P

Sounds like you and DS had a great week-end! :cool2:

My goal this month is to lose 7 pounds, that will put me at a 25-pound loss again for this year. I want to lose it by Thanksgiving, since I'm flying on Thanksgiving morning to Los Angeles to spend a week with my brother. And we're going to Disneyland, my first time! I don't want to worry about any seatbelts not fitting or about me being uncomfortable on any rides. I'll keep logging in all my food, stick to the dietary changes I've made, and keep exercising 5-6 days a week.

Oooo, a first trip to Disneyland! I love that park!

I always stress about November and December, because (as some of you know) I love Christmas cookies :) I also love baking Christmas cookies, pies, and anything else that I think looks yummy. So, part of my plan is to try not to go overboard when I am baking. I'm off to a good start today, as I made sugar cookies for DSs and DH and I haven't even had a nibble!

Awesome willpower, Jill! :worship: Have a great week! :flower3:

Just in case anyone wants a look....here's a picture of the incredible Chocolate Overload Cake!!! I only had a small piece!!!

That was an amazing cake, Helen! :cake: Hope your Mom had a wonderful birthday. ::yes::

Had a successful day. Walked 11.07 miles total today with my 16-yr old daughter. We went for ice cream. It was great but now I'm sore. I have a goal each month to beat my last month's walking miles. September was 60. October, 66. This month's goal is 70 and I'm already 1/7 of the way there!!! I plan to walk an hour a day while on the cruise so that should add about 28 more miles.

:woohoo: Great walk today! Walking on deck 4 is a lot of fun. Plus the views are awesome! :cool2:

I hope to continue my weight loss thru November with staying on top of my portions, and logging everything that goes into my mouth! ;). I have another half marathon on Thanksgiving day, so my training will help burn a few extra holiday calories.
I am so glad I found these board the love and support you all share is wonderful! Hope everyone has a successful November and thanks for letting me share it with you guys!

Thanks for sharing your successes with us and inspiring us! :flower3:

Since we didn't have a coach for these first few days, I will post a QOTD for tomorrow! (we still have coaching slots open people :teeth:)

QOTD Mon November 4
I am sure we all those "go to" foods when we are watching what we eat, healthy things have incorporated into our everday diet. What are some of yours?

Boiled eggs or egg white cooked in the microwave for breakfast

Yoplait Greek 100 yogurt

Salad in a bag (actually organic salad with herbs in a plastic box ;))

Creamy salad dressing made with yogurt like Bolthouse Farms or Litehouse

Thanks for hostessing this month, Amanda! :thanks:

Breakfast - gluten-free toast with almond butter

Lunch - Salad with grilled chicken or salmon and lots of veggies

Dinner - Trader Joe's frozen brown rice, and frozen stir-fry veggies make fixing a stir-fry dish very easy - just add in some protein.

Snack - organic light string cheese with an apple or pear

Also, I eat A LOT of cucumbers and grape tomatoes!

Sounds very yummy and healthy! :thumbsup2

Your veggie chili sounds delicious! Is it on the recipe thread? :flower3:

Thanks for volunteering to coach! :thanks: It's a lot of fun. Pick out a week and send Amanda (araes2102) a PM and you will be in. Don't forget the QOTD archive that is a stickie at the top of the WISH boards if you need inspiration for the QOTD. :goodvibes

Have a great Monday all!

Hi! Is it too late for me to join? I'm new to this, but really excited. Who do I need to pm, and what info is needed? Thanks!

You will need to get a few more posts before you can PM -- I believe you need ten posts so start chatting away and you will be there in no time. :goodvibes:

Good Nov NO EXCUSE Monday to everyone ::yes::

quickly read posts to catch up - like reading your bio's & goals -I've been a WISHer lots of years ago, ohMom is my DD who said in Oct - get back to the WISH board - great group of folks over there :wave2: Been married 46 years - DH is a focused kind of guy, most recent, he backpacked a portion of the AT for 2 weeks in Sept -180 mi - he has been to the Y this morning, just stopped by to let me know he is off to hike 4-5 mi! No way can I keep up with him, I like being accountable in smaller groups of friends but I can say it makes it much easier for me to be prompted to exercise with a guy like him around!

QOTD - go to foods for me when I am really trying to lose - is not really a healthy "food" but it is my sugar fix that helps me stay on track - a tootsie roll pop!

I'm off to get in those 8k steps for the day - takes me a few days to get my body to match the clock when we turn back for DST- so I am a bit earlier this morning but have lots on the list of stuff to do today so here I go!

Since we don't have a coach yet for the first part of the challenge I'll post a QOTD for this week-end.

QOTD Saturday, November 2 and Sunday, November 3, 2013: Please do a quick intro and share what your plan is to meet your goal for November.

Hi Everyone - I am Michelle - Mom to DD almost 20 and DS 17, Wife to the Hubs of almost 5 yrs and currently petless :( (I see a kitty in our near future however!) been heavy forever, In 4/2010 they put me on diabetes meds and in early 2012 they added a shot as well (not insulin but a reactor call bydurieon) well that really stunk so I decided it was time to do something - I started Atkins lost 20ish quickly however my "Summer of Bread, Chips and Ice Cream" gave them all back to me! sooo on 10/18 after getting on the DR scales and seeing all the lbs just looking back at me yet again, I'm here again to see if if I can't get rid of them for once and all by restarting Atkins.. I have a Tuesday night Zumba class and am starting a Thursday night Jump Rope/Hula Hoop class and will do some other Ab training during the week and taking Sunday's off..

My go to foods are - Salad with Chicken, yogurt with raspberries and Egg Beaters.. oh and nuts for a snack..

Got here a little late but I'm in for the month! hope to lose 5 lbs even with thanksgiving and vacation coming! I'd like to dress up a bit for my 5 yr anniversary dinner with the Hubs on 11/30 and the skirt is snug..

Good luck Everyone!!

my go to food right now is Green giant boxed vegetables -- especially the Heallthy Weight blend. I really like it and if fills me up

Just popping in to say hi. Busy day at work. Actually the whole week will be crazy. But I keep reminding myself that even if I don't get caught up at work I am getting on a plane Friday morning. :) The following week is a weekend away too. So lots to look forward to.

I was supposed to go to the gym for strength class today, but between work chaos and my back spasming last night, I decided to actually taper :thumbsup2 and just walk with Mike when he gets home so I get in at least a mile today. I am not very good at tapering, but in the long run if I take it a little easier this week, I will probably have a better race.

Helen--what is in the baked bean lasagna?

Ok, Mike is home so time to walk before it gets too dark. :)

Forgot to tell you what's for dinner: spaghetti squash with spinach cashew pesto. Yum!

Just in case anyone wants a look....here's a picture of the incredible Chocolate Overload Cake!!! I only had a small piece!!!

Holy smokes! That looks heavenly :cloud9:

Some choices I make are yogurt with granola, hard boiled eggs, string cheese, fruit, salads with grilled chicken, soups, and my mom recently introduced me to Atkins bars. I love those when I need a chocolate fix. I don't know what they are called, but the ones that are like candy bars are yummy. I like the on that's like a Payday and the one that's like a Mounds.

If anyone needs recipe suggestions, I suggest the SkinnyTaste website. She has awesome recipes and if you do WW, the points are on there.

Good evening :goodvibes

This time change has me all screwed up. I was awake this morning at 5:00. :headache: I am hoping that I can get back in a groove and sleep a little later tomorrow and each day this week until I'm back to 6:00.

I have been feeling a little off today. Since Friday, I have been watching my carbs (mainly avoiding white breads, pastas, and sugar) and don't know if that's why. So, I did eat a sugar cookie and a bite size dark chocolate Milky Way today :)

I ended up not joining a new gym yet. Today was 50 degrees (yay!) and I wanted to get outside to walk with the dog. A nice 55 minute walk to the park, through the park, and back home was perfect. It was almost 4 miles and I had one happy dog! Tomorrow I have a pto meeting at 4:00 and Wednesday I workout where DS7 takes gymnastics. So, I think I'll join later this week.

DH took DS10 to his drum lesson, so I am going to run and get some laundry done. Have a great night.

Jill

Good morning. :)
I am going into work early and then yoga and walk my mile this evening. I skipped a yoga workout last week (to go into work extra) so I am going to go this evening and tomorrow. Not a huge yoga fan, but my back is tweaking and I think I really need to get a good stretch or two before the weekend.

I hope everyone has a good day.

We are having pumpkin "ricotta" (uses tofu) over spaghetti squash for dinner.

I made a single cookie yesterday. It was ok, but I am going to try a different recipe next time. The oven was already on, so I don't feel guilty for making it. And it was pretty easy.

Happy Tuesday!

My apologies AGAIN for being so MIA! With it being just a few days until the Wine and Dine Half, it seems like chaos has become the norm in my house. :rotfl2: I just wanted to stop by and check in. :wave2: Between work taking me into super-high-stress mode, suddenly developing a last minute earache (REALLY??),trying to get packed, and the dog ready to go to the neighbors, it feels like my head is going to explode. :crazy2: I won't have much opportunity to check in, so have a great week, keep those legs moving and the good food choices coming, and I'll see you all after the madness subsides! And Rose, I'll see you this weekend! :cheer2:

I am sure we all those "go to" foods when we are watching what we eat, healthy things have incorporated into our everday diet. What are some of yours?

My go-to foods.....

egg whites

salad greens

any/all veggies (these are my basics/must haves: carrots, celery, cukes, tomatoes, spinach, squash -all types, broccoli, cauliflower, mushrooms, red bell peppers, onions)

low carb tortillas and "Sandwich Thins" type rolls

apples

low fat cheese (cheddar, stick cheese, cottage cheese)

organic all-natural SF peanut butter

green tea

quinoa

beans (fat-free refried, black, kidney, etc)

That is the short list of things I really couldn't go without.

My go-to foods for trying to lose weight are:

The single cookie recipe sounds like a great idea. Hopefully you can tweak it and make it delicious!

One of the healthy food blogs that I follow posted that she is offering a "treats" cookbook now that includes lots of "free" (gluten-free, dairy-free, etc). Here is a link....

Also, I just got an email that the South Beach diet is now offering a GF cookbook. Here is the link for that, as well.....

MORNING ALL! Here I am, back from Minecon 2013! And of course, DS is sick...:sad2: Probably mostly just over-tired, but he did feel a bit warm to me and has been complaining about a headache for about 24 hours now, so I let him stay home today.

Wow, that weekend went by quickly!! I can say here that I am PROUD of most of the food choices I made..... but we did have a big pizza splurge on Sunday night. We were tired and just didn't feel like making our way to DTD to hit a restaurant there. DS really wanted to buy a pizza and get comfy at the hotel with our dinner.... so that is what we did! And I had another small splurge yesterday with a few TB of cookie dough (darn that DH for buying it for DS!). But honestly, overall, I had a great weekend. Plus I got lots of walking in around the convention center and at IOA!

But of course, we did get our bit of "Disney Magic" with a monorail round trip around Epcot and the MK.... plus we got off the monorail at the MK and walked down to the entrance to just take in a bit of the sights, sounds, and smells. But it was SUPER WEIRD and a bit anti-climactic knowing that we weren't actually going IN the park.

We had contemplated dinner at Chef Mickey's.... and they actually had an opening when we stopped at about 7pm.... but we didn't commit to it and when we returned later about 8:30, they didn't have anything left. So we decided it wasn't meant to be.... plus I was hesitant to spend the $80 plus tip it would have cost! We did catch a glimpse of Mickey though!:goodvibes

Our last morning was spent at DTD (really just an hour or so) and that was really nice. The weather was nice and there was a bit of fall decor around, which I've never experienced before (I've only ever visited Orlando in January, April, May, and December). Part of the plan to visit DTD included some Christmas shopping for DD. She would like one of the new Vera Bradley Disney wristlets for Christmas.... and of course, they were sold out of those. :confused3 Another thing that wasn't meant to be I suppose.

Home today to catch up on laundry and my WW work. I have my meeting tonight so I need to get ready for that. Plus I will take a walk outside today before I hit the shower.

TTYL........................P

I noticed that we are still without a coach until tomorrow, so if no one minds, I will post a QOTD for today......

QOTD for Tuesday, November 5, 2013:

What is one little change you can commit to for this week that could add up to a BIG change on the scale?? Be sure it is something that you can really accomplish and hopefully stick with! Give it some thought!

.........................P

The little change I have committed to this week is that I will eat more non-starchy veggies this week because my consumption of potatoes, sweet potatoes and squash has really crept up over the last few weeks. More cabbage, brocolli, carrots etc needed this week. I need a 2.5lb loss to get my next sticker at class, and it would be nice to get it before my birthday (a week Friday) if at all possible.

For those of you that want my veg chilli and baked bean lasagne recipes......I have them both as pdf files....anyone know if I can attach them in that format?? I also have them in word and publisher too!!!! Otherwise I can just cut and paste them.

Enjoying catching up with everyone at the moment as I was a bit out of it last month with work being so busy.

Good luck to everyone running this coming weekend...I'm going for a new PB in my weekly 5K, need a boost before my 1st ever 10K a week Sunday.

I have been working really hard on drinking water. It's more challenging at work, but I am getting in at least 32 ounces during the work day.

P--thanks for the links! :)

QOTD: for me this will have to be to get back on the healthy food kick. Since the refrigerator died, and we had an 8 day gap in coolant, we've been making more pastas, pizzas and sandwiches to get by. And now that we've had the fridge for 5 days, we haven't really gotten back to the meat and veggies meals like we should. SOOOOO, I'm focusing especially on healthy meals this week. Gotta get ready for the calorie-laden cruise I'll be on in 11 days!

I think I could stop eating all that left over Halloween candy! :lmao:
I could really stop snacking in general!

I'm having a TERRIBLE week! I'm a stress eater and I've been stressed out dealing with some medical issues with my daughter. She is home this week from college due to being sick and needing to have some medical tests done. Not only am I worried about her being sick, but I'm worried about her getting behind! When I worry, I eat! Needless to say, I will probably be up in weight for the next weigh in! :(
