I always seem to have a pre-vacation slide, too, with my eating - I let things slip the week before we go away...we're eating out more (keeping the fridge clean), and I'm starting to get into that vacation mode of "ah, whatever!" I've tried to be mindful of it this week, and I think it was better than it would have been if I hadn't been this focused. So yay.
Oh, Lion King was amazing! We loved the production at the Kennedy Center last weekend. The kids were terrific, and the woman playing Rafiki was *insanely* good. I was less psyched with Scar, who seemed too bored the whole time - not enough evil. Maybe just too subtle a performance for the scale of the production. But we had a blast, and DDs loved being in that beautiful theater!

Happy Birthday to Lisah!!![]()
I missed two days of exercise this week because of weather. I am going to run today (my usual rest day) and I am going to get a run in tomorrow and do a cardio workout on Sunday to catch up.
Happy birthday to Lisah and Desiree!
Lisa!!! Hope you enjoy your
Have a great time Liz!
No special plans for eating healthy this weekend, just the usual stuff.
Our special event is we get DS2 back! His final concert is the great big finale of the entire Oregon Bach Festival and it'll be a huge choir singing (not just the kids). Should be fantastic. The kids alone are amazing. Can't wait to hear some professionals joining them. After the performance his 2 week camp will be over and he comes home. Today I need to mop his floor since there's no telling when I'll be able to see it again once he comes home Sunday!
DS1 is housesitting this weekend so it should be a very quiet weekend--except I'm sure he'll be home for meals! Boys are like that. I almost said teens but he's not a teen anymore.
DH has to replace the kitchen faucet because there is a teeny hole on the side and water either drips out or sprays out. It's the weirdest thing! Who knows how on earth it got a hole there?!
Our hot weather is supposed to continue. One of these years we're gonna have to get some AC!
Hope everybody has a lovely weekend. Thanks for coaching last week Rose, and thanks for doing it this week, Jill!
Happy birthday, ladies! May this be the best year yet! Hope you had/have an awesome celebration for your special day!![]()
QOTD~I usually don't like to post about my gains or losses, but I am super excited that I am down 3 pounds since the start of the challenge! So, I am going to continue with my eating plan this weekend. I have a 5 mile run scheduled for tomorrow morning. I will either be taking a rest day Sunday or I may thrown in a little yoga. No other plans for this weekend and I am glad to be able to get some house stuff done!
I guess everyone is enjoying the start to their weekend! I usually kill the thread, so I expected it
I'll be back later tonight or very early tomorrow to post Saturday's QOTD.
Jill
Happy Birthday Lisa![]()
Hi everyone, I already got a lot of PMs! Congratulations to those with losses, and encouragement to those who did not lose - or only a little. Keep in mind that your body is a living organism with its own mind about when it is prepared to shed those pounds!
Also a belated Happy Birthday to Lisa and Desiree!!!
QOTD:
My weekend is going to be a busy one, busy with work that is. Not pleased, but my project is in its final stages and I know that soon things will be much better. So, the plan is to now sit down and make a meal plan for the weekend that has a few treats, but is OP, then go shopping and after that head off to work for some hours. I guess on the way home from work I will take a detour and have a nice long walk through the city and get a cappuccino (skimmed milk) at Starbucks for 2 points... And the good thing about being at work is: no food temptations available there!!! But I will bring some fruit and carrots as a snack. I think with that I do have a very good plan for the weekend!!
How about a fun question for a Saturday?

Our errands/appointments yesterday kept us away from home all day! Didn't get back until nearly 5:30 pm and by the time I unloaded groceries and made dinner, it was nearly 8pm!
Dinner was cauliflower "fried rice" for the second time and it really is going to become a favorite..... the only down side is that it is rather time consuming. My food processor isn't large and it takes a while to grate all of the cauliflower, plus I have to chop the onions and carrots and garlic and bok choy.... definitely not a meal I will make on a busy day. Tonight is pizza stuffed zucchini! Mine will be vegetarian and the men's will be made with hamburger/pork ground meat mixture..... plus of course I'll be tossing in some mushrooms and onions. And tomorrow night are mywarm asian lettuce wraps which can be found here..........http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=45158699&postcount=99.
(And a shameless plug for our ENTIRE recipe thread here!! http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2447512 )
I'll post a picture of the treasures I bought separately, since the photos are on my phone and it will be easier to do it directly from there.
Off to start laundry and refill my coffee!.....................P
QOTD July 10, 2014
Do you think negative thinking impacts your weight loss or keeps you from reaching your goals? Example? Do you think any of the above tips will be useful?
Birthday supper went great. We ended up at Outback because Texas Roadhouse was packed. I had so many temptations and I passed on all of them which is huge for me because Outback is my FAVORITE restaurant. We usually get a full order of Aussie Fries with extra bacon and cheese. I usually eat at least 1 loaf of bread by myself with a ton of butter.
Last night, our friends ordered the bloomin onion and Aussie Fries for appetizers. I didn't eat any!!!! I only ate one small slice of the bread with no butter and shared half of that with Gabe. I ate a 8 oz. Victoria's Filet which is my favorite piece of steak but it tasted kind of funny and I was worried I would end up sick last night. I saw another woman taking her first bite of her Victoria's Filet as we were walking out and she made a funny face like it tasted funny so I'm not sure what was going on. I had salad as my sides....ok, I had two small house salads as my sides but I don't think that was too bad considering I passed on all the other stuff. Then we all went out for ice cream and I got a low fat frozen yogurt.
Weigh in's have been good to me so far this month. Lost 2.2 lbs this week for a total of 4.8 so far this month. A total of 13 lbs since June 1st.
My goal for next week is to get up a half an hour early and use the air walk machine that is just taking up space in my living room at the moment. The treadmill that is also taking up space is keeping it company. Just gotta make myself do it.
I have set small goals of 5 lbs the past two month only because I didn't want to lose motivation if I set it higher right at the beginning. However, I have made such great progress with changes in my diet and thinking that I think I will set my goal a little higher next month just to see if it can help get me to stick with my exercise plan.
51 days until Disney!!!!If I can keep up with this pace, I will have lost 30ish pounds by the trip. I know there will be ups and downs until then but I'm determined. My BIG goal in all of this is to start the new year at my goal weight of 120.
Happy Friday everyone!!!!
Drive by posting. I have gained a freakin pound since the first of the month, ergh.
Today is busy, pay bills, finish DS18's cosplay costume, take him to Connecticon, grocery store, take DS12 to sleep over, pack, take other 2 kids to RV. Wait for DH to come home, Dinner.
I would love to get some scrapbooking done too but I don't know if that will happen. We will see.

Isn't that the truth?!?![]()
I will stay on plan with my planned meals and plenty of exercise disguised as yard work!!
I would want to transport (like they used to on Bewitched or like Harry Potter does with flue powder)..... that way I could travel ANYWHERE in the world without having to buy an airline ticket!! I could literally travel around the world any time I wanted! I could visit friends and family without a 2 hour car ride.... I could pop down to see DD for lunch and pop back to pick up DS after school! Doesn't it sound delightful????????
It sounds wonderful! I had the same idea

Thank you for coaching for the next few days, Jill!
No problem
Yesterday was my birthday so there was cake and good food. Back OP for the rest of the week-end. I think I will run tomorrow as I'm hoping it might be a little cooler and a little less smoky. DH wants some yard work help today. Just a typical summer week-end here.
How was your run?
It is hot around here. Remember all those days it was cold and rainy and we longed for the heat?!?Hope it is not smoky in your neck of the woods too.
I remember whining about all the cold and snow here. I am enjoying summer very much!
And kudos to you on a great month so far!Keep up the good work!
Thanks!
If I could have a super power I think I would like to be able to fly! I could get all my stuff done quickly and pop over to a Disney park anytime I wanted.
QOTD: Well, I think I'd like to just travel super fast. Grocery shopping, done. Meeting across town, done. Visit parents, done. Visit DS college, done. Not sure how that would work getting gas for the car, but maybe I wouldn't need a car?![]()

I've always thought reading mind. I dunno why.
Hmmm...interesting! I've always thought of NOT being able to do that
I'm down 1 pound from my last weigh in.Thinking it is great considering TOM for me. I was feeling a bit down I didn't go camping with my good friends. The truck was packed already and I would not have afforded the fuel to take my car. But then TOM started and I was so glad I didn't go.
We are planning to go to South Dakota in August and hope TOM doesn't fall during that. I hate traveling with it not to mention my poor daughter got hers last month so she may get it again next week. Last month is wasn't long after mine. I feel horrible no 10 year old needs that hassle. I was 13 and even then its kinda uncalled for. I get that it make us women and able to conceive babies but why at 10 or even 13. It makes me wonder if there is some truth behind the hormones in food but I know even generations ago young girls have been getting them.
Congrats on the loss. And, I agree. Poor DD shouldn't have to go through all that hassle at such a young age.
Month is getting closer to half done and I wanted to see 310 by end of it. So 2lbs a week would be needed so time to get more serious with exercise. Maybe I'll talk Zoe into swimming with me in a couple hours if pool isn't too packed. If its packed we don't really get to do much lap swimming that we like to do for a bit then just general fun.
Hope you made it swimming and had fun!
I hate how fast bread seems to go bad. I bought some small sub type rolls to make subs this weekend and it has mold. I guess I did buy them on Tuesday but the sell by was 9th. I would make my own breads but our oven is propane and it would cost a fortune to use the oven that long. I must learn this crock pot breadmaking I have read about or think about finding a breadmaker. I just think in this house we don't eat bread fast enough. Then there are time we need it and we are out. LOL I'm going to eat a leftover hamburger even though we have sliced bread because I know the hamburger buns will join them in a few days if we don't use them up. lol I wouldn't even have much use for them if it was just Zoe and I as we'd probably eat more beans than meat since neither of us really like it much.
Wow, I'm so far behind! I thought about quoting and responding, but I wouldn't know how far to go backI have been reading, though! Everyone has so much going on, birthdays, projects at work, awesome vacations...
Me? I'm stuck at home with a headcold. I don't know whether I have 'manflu', even though I'm a woman, but I always feel like my colds are always more disgusting than most other people. Possible TMI, but my goo production when I get a cold seems to turn up to 11 every single time, blegh...
Hope you are feeling better soon!
So, if I could pick a super power, right now my answer would be an immune system of steel!
That's a new one! But, it would definitely be awesome to never be sick!
Food wise I've been doing ok, although I'm quickly realising that I don't really have enough knowledge. I'm ok with meals, but snacks?If I get hungry in the afternoon, I don't really know what to do. Don't eat sugar, eat protein, but don't eat fat. And it all becomes too confusing and I eat chocolate lol. So I am trying a few new things this week, I ordered more fruit and vegies in this week's groceries, and some plain yoghurt and cottage cheese. I'll just experiment a bit for a while. I need to go have a look at that recipe thread, I think
I think you gave me an idea for tomorrow's QOTD
Exercise wise hasn't been that great. It has been so incredibly cold here all this week, one of the coldest weeks we've had this winter, and so even getting out of the office at lunch for a bit of a walk is seriously unappealing. I did get to the gym on Tuesday night, which went well, but I could feel the cold already coming on then. So I knew going in that it would be the last time I go for at least a week. Fingers crossed my head clears enough that i can get back this Tuesday.
Weightloss this week was ok, nothing special. I'm really trying to keep my thoughts in check. Trying not to think 'look how much I could away with and still lose a little weight'and more trying to think 'think about how much I could lose if I really committed'

I've noticed our bread goes bad faster when it's more humid. We don't eat much bread in the summer, but do use hamburger and hot dog buns. Fresh bakery breads always seem to go bad in a few days compared to commercially prepared things. Do you refrigerate your breads? We don't, but maybe I should during the humid summer.
Yes for sure it impacts weight loss because of doubts. Also negative thinking tends to make exercise irrationally hard. I think a lot of the tips are something I could implement to fight off doubts. Especially the meditation, yoga and listing gratefulness. And I admit I'm very guilty of playing victim at times. I use singing to combat negative thoughts while driving related to my anxiety. Some of you may recall the troubles I've had with that. Its been a long journey but I've been med free and panic attack free since early this year.
That is WONDERFUL!!

SO GLAD you are down 1 pound! Sorry you missed out on visiting with friends, but you will definitely be more comfortable closer to home this week, right?? Sorry that DD is "afflicted" at such a young age.

How about some water walking/jogging if the pool is crowded? You don't need a whole lane.

DEFINITELY have protein if you are snacking.... nuts and nut butters in small quantities, light cheeses, lowfat/fat free yogurt. DEFINITELY watch the sugars (causes insulin spikes which are the enemy of losing weight) and while I admit to being very "fat phobic", a small amount of healthy fats will help keep you fuller longer (avocado, coconut oil, etc).

Can't wait to see what you picked up!
Oooopps... forgot to post yesterday as the day got busy. Will do it this morning.
DS11 and I always talk about how we wish we could just teleport anywhere instantly. When I get stressed, I could just take a break at a beach for an hour. When I need some extra activity, I can land on a fabulous hiking trail in Tennessee or the Grand Canyon. I can visit exotic places and not have to pay!!
I could climb the Eiffel tower for exercise on Monday and hike the Grand Tetons for exercise on Tuesday... and pop into Disneyland for the 3pm parade and still be home for dinner!!.... wouldn't that be great!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm so glad to see so many people around today! I had 5 miles planned for today. I ran the first 3.1 for a time for a virtual 5k I signed up for. So, my last 1.9 miles was a little slower and I actually felt a tad sick. But, I was pleased with my over time and glad I got it done.
Good for you!
I actually didn't do a whole lot else! I went to JCPenneys to grab a couple new shirts and dress pants and a skirt. Well, I went for a new dressy top and ended up with all the other stuff![]()
Retail therapy is fun too!
Laundry is done, dishes are done, I finished a book I was reading, and I did some research on the Grand Canyon for a possible trip next year. We know places book up fast so we are starting to research now. Not sure what to do though, because places are pretty expensive. We are now thinking of getting a weekly rental in Flagstaff and driving to the South Rim, Sedona, and maybe the Four Points from there. Any insights would be lovely if you have them!
I'm heading to Pittsburgh for a bit in the morning with my mom and sister, so I'll post the QOTD in the morning. DSs are going to a vacation bible school at a friend's church from 6-8:30 so I'll be back on after that! Have a great night![]()
What are your favorite go to healthy snacks at home and on the go?
I'll be back tonight with replies. Have a great day!
Jill
We only did one day at the GC on our big trip out west in 2005 and the only thing I remember is that there are so few hotels within an hour's drive of the canyon, unless you are staying IN the canyon. We stayed at a VERY DATED Day's Inn about an hour's drive from the canyon (to the East) and I am very glad we didn't plan to stay longer. While it was clean, it was very remote and very old! But the canyon itself.... SPECTACULAR!
Thanks!
100 calorie packs of nuts (for both home and away).... easy to bring along, super portable, shelf-stable, portion controlled, and healthy protein. That is definitely a WINNER!
Carrots/celery, etc with Laughing Cow cheese wedges and/or hummus (can be kept out of the fridge for a short period of time).
Apples and string cheese or peanut butter.
Whole wheat pretzels with hummus, LC cheese, 100 calorie pack of guacamole, or nut butter.
Green tea (hot or iced).
Yogurt (your choice of fat-free or low fat), sweetened at home with stevia with fruit added if desired.
Frozen banana "ice cream".
Hard boiled egg (whole or just the whites).... or remove the yolk and replace with a teaspoon of hummus
Laughing Cow cheese wedge smeared on a high fiber cracker (Wasa or similar) and topped with a slice of sun-ripened beefsteak tomato.
Few ounces of cold chicken or turkey.... very filling.
Pretty much ANY fruit is fair game for a snack as well! Just watch the sugar and portion sizes.
***********************
Morning all! Up and moving, but headachy due to neck pain. Guess I'll be calling the chiro again tomorrow. I did a lot of moving, bending, squatting, lifting yesterday (weeding, cleaning, and helping DH with a lot of heavy lumber), so not unexpected. Got my sweat on in a good way though! And will repeat today.
I've been really enjoying my Vitamix and have had a smoothie for breakfast for the past many days, but I definitely need to work on my recipes, as they weren't all exactly "taste sensations"!But I drank them anyhow because they were full of expensive produce and I am not going to waste that! I'm pretty much out of my smoothie ingredients today, so I may just make a small green smoothie and round out my breakfast with some yogurt and berries.
Off to start breakfast, refill my coffee, start laundry, and post those pictures I promised!...............P
A trip to the Grand Canyon would be fun, Jill. Using Flagstaff as a base is a great idea for the places you want to go. You might want to think about flying into Vegas -- you could stay a night there and see the lights -- and visit Hoover Dam. The Grand Canyon is breath taking and Sedona is very interesting. There are even things to do in Flagstaff. Four Corners is fun because you are in four places at once but be aware that it is a long, long drive through some of the poorest parts of the indian reservations for about 15 minutes of fun. We moved to AZ in 1973 and although I only lived there for a total of 13 years I've been going there for the last 30 years.
Thanks for all the info! I'm just starting the research so I'll probably be asking more general questions. I never thought of flying into Vegas. We thought we'd just go through Phoenix. I'll look into Vegas as well.
Lots of good snack suggestions already. Definitely try to get a protein with the snack to make it last longer. I love nuts, babybel or swiss cow cheeses, turkey sandwich slices, or hummus for a snack. Pairing one of these with a fruit or vegetable makes a great snack. Soup and salad is also a good choice. A nice cup of miso soup or tea would work.
Have a great day all!![]()
Good morning.
Hope everyone is having a great Sunday.
We ran 7 miles this morning--which is my longest run in a very long time. I am hoping to finish w&d around 12 min miles so I guess I need to actually train for it.It was really warm here and we did 6:2 intervals and ended around 12:05 average, so not too bad. It was probably our warmest morning so far this year.
Mike and I booked a last minute stress relieving weekend away for Sat-Mon so I will be getting ready for that this week and working very hard to be on plan so I can relax a little bit this weekend.
Hope everyone has a great day!
For snack I usually grab a yogurt or apple and string cheese. I also love nuts so have been known to count them out--as opposed to reaching in and taking out a fistful!
Thunder is really rolling here so suppose I will turn off my computer!
I forget that not everyone here is in my weather zone/time zone/country! Chuckling as you talk about being cold while most of us are experiencing a hot summer!! And make that devil go away and stick with the angel! Sure, slow weight loss is healthy, but no reason to go down that slippery slope of "how much can I get away with and still lose??".
How about a fun question for a Saturday?
QOTD Saturday, July 12
If you could possess any super power, which would it be?
