WISH Away the Pounds -- Jolly June AND JULY Challenge -- Everyone Welcome!

Hi everyone!

I was on these threads for the first few months of the year but then I got busy with life and couldn't keep up and just stopped following. I've lost 42 lbs since January 1st but have stayed the same weight for the past month. So I need something to kick me in the butt and get me motivated again and I thought I'd try joining these threads again.

I've been working out 6 days a week every week since Jan 1st and have not missed a single workout, so I'm pretty proud of that. I did TurboFire for 5 months and am now on Jillian Michael's Body Revolution. When I finish that I will probably move on to Insanity. I was also doing C25K, however I just suck at running!! I couldn't progress past week 4 and I just found it disheartening and that it was making me feel badly about myself, so I decided to stop it for now and I'll probably try it out again in the Fall, or once I've lost another 20-30lbs.

My eating is where I've been struggling. I KNOW what the right choices are, and I don't keep junk in the house, but when I get the munchies I get very creative in what I eat... and too much of a healthy food is still bad. I'm not at a plateau, because i Know what I'm doing wrong. I just need to recommit to myself.
I'm also an emotional eater and while I was doing really well with that, we've had some very stressful times here lately (FIL's cancer is back and we think he has a matter of months left...waiting on word from his doc to know for sure how bad it is). Trying to help DH, deal with my own emotions about this, and taking care of all 3 little ones 24/7 to give DH some time to deal with this has been stressful and has led to me eating lots of things I shouldn't! But I have to learn to cope with life without stuffing my face.

So anyways, that was a REALLY long way of saying that I'm back, I'm excited to start answering some QOTDs and getting to know you all again, and start losing that weight again!! I have somewhere between 30-40 more pounds to go.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend, and happy Canada day to any fellow Canadians!!

Greenfield, welcome back! That is a fantastic achievement already to have lost so much since January. I am very sorry that you have such a stressful time right now and I hope we will be able to help you getting your eating under control!!

Helen, sounds like you had a great time camping!

That freezer sounds like a lot of work, Pam!

Jill, I am sorry that you did not have such a great year so far!! I hope July will be the month to restart your weight loss!

Welcome back to the new month!

I have changed the thread title and added the weigh in dates. Please, everyone who has not yet PMed me or posted on the thread, get in touch, send me your start weight!! Newcomers are always welcome and if you haven't been following along as much in June as you intended, now is the best way to restart.

I will update the final June results tonight (I am very happy with myself as I managed to get 140% of my goal - but I have to admit 3 pounds was a small goal) and add the new list of participants for July.

And since I have not yet figured out the coaches for the month (my fault as I need to get back to the volunteers who got in touch with me), I will start you off with the first QOTD for July:

A new month gives us an opportunity to restart our weight loss efforts. What are your goals this month - on the scale and otherwise?

A new month gives us an opportunity to restart our weight loss efforts. What are your goals this month - on the scale and otherwise?

I'm excited to be back this month and ready to get my eating back under control!!

My goal this month on the scale is to lose 6lbs. My overall goals are to keep up with my fitness routine, and to get my eating back on track. I need to find that motivation and commitment that I started the year off with. It is still there, but it's definitely diminished lately. So I need to remind myself that I'm doing this for me, and that by eating everything in the kitchen that is not going to help me, my DH, my kids, my FIL.... no one will benefit from it! It just makes me feel bad both physically and emotionally and I need to remember that before I start!

I hope we all have a great month!

Thank you for keeping the thread going for July!

My weight is actually up from January by a few pounds. It is disappointing. I am still struggling to lose those 3 pounds that I gained on my vacation at the beginning of June. I am hoping for a better July & August. I continue to do so well with exercise, but struggle with the Food part. I really need to start tracking every bite I take. I have been lax in that area.

I SO feel your pain my friend. Let's keep limping through this together and we'll get this done! :cool1:

Thank you for hosting again Mag! :love:

Goals for July - pull my head out of my proverbial you-know-where :faint: and start being more strict with my eating. I do pretty well during the day when I'm at work, but once I hit the couch at home (after working out), it's been falling apart. And weekends absolutely destroy me. So now, knowing what the problem is, I have to make a conscious effort to say no, when the DH asks if I want anything, (or at least say I want carrots instead of peanut butter cups!:scared1:) As long as I can keep myself focused on every Friday morning when I get on the scale, I should be okay. Here's to self-discipline and making this stubborn streak that I have work FOR me! :banana:

HI I'm here for July -- I have a 2lb goal which I hope I can do.. lots' of stuff happening this month - the 4th holiday, a weekend away for a LAX tournement, a week long stay-cation and a class reunion.. Happy Monday everyone..

Hi everyone, the first page ought to be up to date. So far we only have very few losers who signed up for July. Please have a look whether you find yourself, if not, send me a PM with your start weight and your goal for the month and I will add you to the list!

I hope we all have a successful July!!

I will have the daughter of friends visiting for some time in July, I guess that will make concentrating on weight loss a bit more difficult. But I am now so close to get to a weight that I last had in the last century and I just really want to get down there finally! About where I am now has been in the past when I lost momentum. So I really need to break to this barrier finally!

Well I'm definitely in for July. The eating seems to be pretty much under control, although I plan to try out a few new recipes from my Slimming Class to mix things up a bit.

I'm hoping to improve my running times..ran home from diet class tonight (for those who have stuck with me since Jan, I was on a Wednesday Weigh-In, but have moved to a Monday from this week) did 2.98km in 00:24:10, which I was really pleased with as I didn't know the route!! (new class location!)

Was supposed to be doing a charity 5K on Saturday but it has been cancelled, so I have signed up for our local ParkRun..free timed 5K in our local park every Saturday morning at 9:00am. Last week there were 247 entrants!!! Some people just walk it, but I aim to run as much as possible.

Well, I'm back from my holidays...have eaten really badly (or really well depending on how you look at it!!), fresh cream cakes, fish & chips, ginger cake, crisps.......well, I was on holiday!!

Only managed to get to the gym once during the week (we were only home for 1 night, then off on our second camping trip!!) but did manage my personal best on the treadmill of 43:54 for a 5K. I'm a bit bummed though as on getting home today, I found a message on the answering machne saying that the charity 5K I was entered for next Saturday has been cancelled!!!! However, I have managed to join our local parkrun...every saturday morning a timed 5K in the park for free, so will be doing that instead.

Weight-wise, not such a good month...started at 192, finished at 190, only 28% of June target......not happy!!! Magdalene, would you put me down for July please, starting at 190, and aiming to lose 7 in July.

Still 48lb lighter than I was at the beginning of January though!!

Great job on the 5k time! I cannot stand running on the treadmill, so more power to you. Sorry your race was cancelled...that's a bummer. Have fun running at the park, though. That's a cool concept that I don't have anywhere near me. And, you should be happy that you lost 2 pounds! It's a hard battle to fight and that's great!

First off, congrats on 42 pounds lost! That's huge! Second, good job on the workouts. Those are some tough choices and you are obviously doing great. Third, so sorry to hear about your family stress. Try to take care of yourself first, so you can help take care of the others the best you can. I know it can be hard, but I'm sure you can get that eating right back on track & kick some more pounds to the curb in July :)

A new month gives us an opportunity to restart our weight loss efforts. What are your goals this month - on the scale and otherwise?

My goals are to get my eating under control, continue to keep up the exercise, and lose 5 pounds (3 of which are stubborn vacation weight gain from June :upsidedow).

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, I was all set to hang out here for awhile, but we just decided to go to the park and do the fitness trail as a family. So, I'm off and probably won't be back on again until tomorrow. See you then!
Jill
Welcome back to the new month!
A new month gives us an opportunity to restart our weight loss efforts. What are your goals this month - on the scale and otherwise?
I would love to join in and when I weighed this morning it's obvious that I need to. My goal on the scale is 7 pounds for the month. My overall goal is to log all food on myfitnesspal and to do some sort of exercise 4 times per week. My disney vacation in June really through my eating off track, and I have been eating like I was on vacation since I've been home. :confused3
I'm hoping joining this challenge will help me stay motivated and accountable.
Good Tuesday morning
I will be your coach for the next week.
I am a school teacher who is off for the next couple of weeks before I go in and teach 3 weeks of prep classes for kids taking AP Calc classes in the fall. My dh just retired last week but we won't really feel it until Sept when he doesn't go back to school.
Question of the Day
Have you ever gone to celebrate something special? DO you get the pins? Have you ever gotten anything special?
Our first trip to DL was on our honeymoon. We spent one day. Since we live on the east coast we have been many times to DW. We went on our 10th anniversary, our 25th, our 30th. We just last month booked a trip for our 35th next month. No one knows about it. It has been our secret for the last couple of weeks. We will tell our sons after our anniversary next month.
When we were there around our 30th we got to go on the Jungle Cruise fast pass line. We were wearing our buttons and when the guy found out how long we were married he let our group go through fast pass instead of th 30 minute line.
Of to get some things done. It is cloudy and damp here. I guess the tree guy isn't coming today. He was here until the rain started around 1 yesterday.
Have a happy and healthy day.
My overall goal is to log all food on myfitnesspal and to do some sort of exercise 4 times per week.
I find the MyFitnessPal app is indispensable when I'm trying to lose weight. Trying being the key word there because when I slack off MFP is the first thing to go. But when I hunker down and get serious, that little app keeps me from eating so much. The first thing I think isn't "Oh that's bad for me! It's: Ugh I have to add that to the foods eaten today? I don't THINK so!"
Has anyone here set up a thread for people to connect as Friends in the MyFitnessPal app? I only have two (both of which don't use it!)... if you're interested in friending for the support there my name is Intrinsicat, send me a friend request! I love to see the goals attained thread on the front page.
Have you ever gone to celebrate something special? DO you get the pins? Have you ever gotten anything special?
Yes! We went for my DD's 8th birthday years ago. Best Disney memory ever: walking through AK on her actual bday - she was wearing the pin. Suddenly we heard someone shouting her name over and over... then the crowd parted and this yellow trash can drives up to her all on it's own and starts singing her happy birthday. I think the can character's name is Push? Or there are two and I'm confusing the names... but she was elated!
We're going back in December for DD's 16th bday. This time a few days in the park and then board the Dream on her actual birthday. Can't wait!! Although we all sort of regret not going at Halloween this year, our usual time to go - especially now that we've heard Universal's HHN is using The Cabin in the Woods movie as one of their haunted house themes!!! :faint:
35 years! That's amazing!! Congratulations!! We always tell the kids they can buy one souvenir on the trip and we always seem to be going for one special reason or another so we buy one pin to commemorate it that we use as a push pin on the kids bulletin board when we get home.
Hi Magdalene
I had an awful month and gained back all of the weight I lost in May. It was a highly stressful one and I didn't run at all and I am nursing so I always felt starving no matter what I ate. But I'm ready to try again, harder this time and this time I mean it. I can still do it. 8 pounds a month to meet my goal in 98 days!!!
Wow that sounds like a busy month! Sounds like a reasonable goal with all you've got going on. Have fun with all your activites!
Congrats to your DH on retirement and congrats to both of you on your 35th anniversary!
the only time we've been to WDW while celebrating was on our honeymoon. We wore the buttons and bought the bride and groom ears and wore them all week long. We got lots of special little things like extra desserts, congratulations from every CM we came across, and we got picked to participate in the Backlot Tours. All those little extras really helped to make our honeymoon just that much more special :)
Ugh, when I was nursing I could NOT stop eating! I was always ravenous. I was one of the only people on the planet who DON'T lose weight by nursing. Everyone says the weight just drops off... pft, not for me! 8 lbs a month is a lot, but you can definitely do it! Just keep focused on yourself :)
Good afternoon friends - busy at work right now.. coworker out and everyone wants everything on their desk wrapped up by tomorrow so I feel like I am getting slammed and I have my own stuff to get wrapped up by Friday :scared1: .. glad to be here on my lunch break!!!
QotD : Yes when we went last May we celebrated our 4 yr anniversary late (really we have Nov anniversary) and my Hubs first trip.. we did wear a button everyday and got little things like congrats and cupcakes! I think button helped my Hubs get picked for the Laugh Floor show (Ella - from Sam-n-Ella - sang him a love song haa) He also got asked to do the pre show for the backlot tour but he declined (silly man!)
Never been to Disney to celebrate anything!! All of our birthdays and anniversaries are around Christmas time and we try to visit WDW in either May or September as I prefer the weather then.
I'm not really one for pins either, but OH does have a rather impressive WDW Baseball Cap collection!!
Question of the Day
Have you ever gone to celebrate something special? DO you get the pins? Have you ever gotten anything special?
I've been to celebrate my birthday but that was before they started the whole pin and celebration thing. We went for a quick couple of days for our honeymoon a couple of years ago, but we didn't say anything, so no one knew (the DH only tolerates my Disney Dorkness because he loves me. :goodvibes) I don't collect the pins per se, but have a few that kind of fell into my lap, literally. I had one they were giving away for MVMCP years ago that I loved, as it had all the characters on it. I kept it on the jacket I only wear at WDW (as it really doesn't get cold enough to wear it where I live). A few years ago when we were at the World again, I went to put on the coat and found the pin had fallen off! TOTALLY bummed! :rolleyes2 The second pin is Steamboat Willie that I found on a bus at the Fort Wilderness when I accidentally sat on it (OUCH! :eek:), and the third, and probably my fave, is Mickey dressed like a police officer with Pluto, and they're both attached to a badge. How appropriate for this police wife! ::yes::
The most special thing I ever got was the certificates they would give to the owners who kenneled their dogs at Fort Wilderness for being good campers (before the pricey, fancy kennel they have now.) My first two Labs, Ocean and Aspen, went with me every time I visited Mickey. They loved going for walks by the corrals and exchanging sniffs with the horses. They used to have an open field in the back where I would let them off leash and play fetch with them. Both my girls have long passed on, but I still cherish those certificates as it reminds me of all the fun we all had! :love:
I'm going to try to join in this month, if that's ok with you all. I really need to get serious about dumping the 15 that I've been carrying around for the last 5 years and if I'm successful at that, maybe another 15 or so. Losing the extra is like a fantasy, that i just recently came up with to try to become a better runner, but I like to dream big. :)
My official goal for July is 5 pounds. I have a vacation to Hershey of all places right in the middle of the month so I'm really going to try to be as "perfect" as possible for the other 26 days of the month! So far I'm about 2 for 2 (days).
I recently started tracking my calories again and this time I'm also incorporating something I read in a book called "the runners diet." It says to aim for 50% of calories from carbs, 25% protein, 25% fat. I started last Wednesday and it really seems like it will work. I have lost about 1.5 pounds and the best part is that I haven't felt hungry or the low blood sugar swings i used to feel when dieting even though I'm staying within my amount of calories. It's really tedious to enter everything into my app but thankfully it calculates those three % for me so I can play with the components of my meals and adjust it until I find the right balance. I was way over estimating the calories that I ate from fat and underestimating carbs. I think tracking fat has been the key for me because I need to eat carbs, but they have to be carbs that can't add too much fat so I'm mostly eating high water content fruits and veggies or whole grain carbs to meet my goals, along with lean proteins. So I guess that's my "real" goal for the month- tracking my food. Along with sticking to my running plan and adding back in my pt and core exercises.
Thanks for letting me join! I'm hoping to check in each day and let y'all know if I stayed within my calorie goals. Hope that's ok!
QotD: yep! DH and I went to wdw for our honeymoon, our 3rd anniversary, 5th and 6th anniversary, 10th, our sons 3rd bday, 4th bday...... :) it's our go-to celebration whenever possible! We also celebrated our family's "20th anniversary of our first disney trip!" We even go when we r sad: I've gone when going through rough time in life. And last year, we celebrated a recovery of sorts, by running the wine and dine half marathon!
Hapy Wednesday and Happy July friends! As I'm sure you suspected by my absence these last many days, things have been right-out-straight crazy busy for me! No time for chatting even now, but I wanted to at least come on and say hello. We are heading to Cape Cod today and I'm sure I will have time chat while sitting in traffic to get over the bridge later. We were going to leave last night, but didn't... and were going to get up early to leave today.... but so far I'm the only one up! We have nothing packed and I'm not even sure that DH made us a hotel reservation yet! Oh well... we usually stay with family, but have decided not to this year and I'm sure it will be just fine.
I'll pop on later, I promise!..........................P
