WISH Away the Pounds -- Delightful December Challenge -- Everyone Welcome!

The necessary time off and entry fees to every single runDisney race! :cool1: (It's good to dream. :cloud9:) Oh! and knees that no longer hurt!! :headache:

Don't feel bad Amanda, I missed weigh in too. Doesn't matter as I didn't lose so much as an ounce. Better get the dupa :yay: again!!!

I stumbled across this challenge and thought it would be fun to unofficially try it (it's already 2/3 over). It's called the Elf for Health Challenge and includes something different every day. So until 12/22, see how much you can do:

12/12: take some YOU-time
12/13: walk/run/elliptical or whatever your fastest mile
12/14: closet cleanout day
12/15: plan your meals for the week
12/16: mediate
12/17: wall sit as long as you can
12/18: share your expertise and teach someone something
12/19: eat at least 3 different food groups at each meal today
12/20: list 6 things you love about yourself - 3 physical, 3 non-physical
12/21: set a new fitness goal
12/22: make a donation to your favorite charity

I think it will be fun to try this for the rest of the month. I just started Monday by paying it forward and making a donation to one of our local schools. I went to DonorsChoose.org and found a local school that was looking to purchase some kind of special camera. Later that day, I got a sweet note from the teacher thanking me for my donation. :grouphug:

Today is all about the healthy snack. Looks like carrots for me! :goodvibes

Love the race registration idea! :cool2:

Ooo, nice list, Kim. I'll try to do some of these things but honestly think my chances will be better for something like this in January. December is so busy. :santa:

Oh heavens....I can't even THINK of anything! How pathetic! How about a WDW Annual pass PLUS 24 roundtrip airline tickets! That way I could go to WDW once a month for a year AND take someone with me every time!! Who wants to be first??

Pick me!

The TARDY :rolleyes1 QOTD for Wednesday, December 11, 2013:

Finish the following statement with an ACTIVITY:

I have always wanted to try _____________________________.

Finish the following statement with a FOOD:

I have always wanted to taste ____________________________.

I have always wanted to try Zumba.

Finish the following statement with a FOOD:

I have always wanted to taste butternut squash soup.

I have the soup in my pantry and I can do Zumba at the Kroc so I will actually manage to get these done before the end of the month. Thanks for the idea!

Lisa, thank you for coaching!! And a big welcome to Pam to be our new coach for the next 5 days!!

Yesterday's QOTD:

Since it has to be tangible (so it can't be a 5-week trip to Hawaii) I will go for a new bike. I have set my eyes on one that two of my friends have:

http://velotraum.de/modelle/cross-7005-ex-td

It is called "Velotraum" which means more or less "biking dream" and is really light and comes in any colour you wish. I am thinking about going for bright pink! It is horribly expensive though...

Today has been a horrible day eating wise. Need to have a healthy dinner. Somehow I am really struggling this month and keep sabotaging myself. I am so glad to have this thread as I know otherwise things would be even worse...

Cool bike! ::yes::

I'm having a tough time staying OP myself. We can do this! :flower3:

Sorry

Bike looks really neat! Part of me keeps wishing for a bike for myself, but most of me knows I don't ride! :lmao:

Just keep pushing and trying and working toward your goal! You can do it. How about planning ahead for EVERYTHING (food-wise) for the next week? Plan 7 breakfasts, 7 lunches, 7 dinners, 7 snacks (or maybe 14 snacks). Tell yourself you have to pick ONE from the list every day at each meal, until they are all used up. If you are more/less hungry, you can adjust the portions and/or the veggies or add/subtract a snack...but you MUST stick with your list of HEALTHY, OP meals! If you think that would work for you, let me know and maybe I/we could help you with some meal ideas!

Ah, and I see thta today's qotd is up as well.

I always wanted to try getting a massage (a real one, not just a head of foot massage)

I always wanted to try quail.

Never had a massage.... I'm kind of freaked out by the idea of people touching my bare skin with their hands. But DH and my Mom both LOVE them! I think I've tried quail.... I know I tried ostrich and I think there was another "bird" along with that meal. DH and I went to a "fancy" dinner with friends one time and he ordered this "game lovers dinner" .... it was bison and ostrich and two other meats... I think quail and elk maybe?? I can't honestly remember. I'm guessing quail would taste like cornish game hen??

Good Questions!

Happy Hump Day!

Shoot...Your answers aren't here because it doesn't show the quote. You SHOULD go horseback riding some time. Go for a trail ride with friends in the spring. It really is fun and NOT SCARY!

Are you a fish eater? If so, the mahi-mahi is a MUST! We don't eat fish here any more (because of DD's beliefs) but I will admit that I miss it!

Pick me!

Lisa, my friend, you would definitely be IT! We would have SO MUCH FUN together!!

I have always wanted to try Zumba.

Finish the following statement with a FOOD:

YEAH!!! Zumba is fun, but I feel like a silly old lady when I try it now... I have lost all semblance of coordination in my old age!! I am actually making myself some butternut squash soup for dinner! Wish I could share it with you!

I'm having a tough time staying OP myself. We can do this! :flower3:

YES WE CAN! One day at a time.... one food decision at a time!! We will end this year of WISH challenges like the Marines.... the few, the proud, the strong!! ANd in January we will be ready to welcome all kind of "new recruits" who want to change their lives like we are changing ours, for the better!

Okay friends.... off to lurk on the Budget Board and see what kinds of Christmas deals this thrifty folks are sharing!...................P

Things are certainly quiet here!

Dinner is done and mostly cleaned up. DH is away tonight, so I'm going to move the laundry along and do some Christmas wrapping while I watch a movie or something with DS. Working tomorrow and Friday, so I need to pick out my outfits as well. Breakfast and lunch for tomorrow are planned, but not packed up yet.

I'll pop on in the morning to post the QOTD and then be back later in the day, as work allows, to chat! TTYL........................P

Wow.... REALLY quiet here! We didn't even get any West Coast action later last night!

I"m off to work in 5 minutes, so I'll post the QOTD and then plan to chat with you all later. Not sure if I will get any computer time/access at school, but it is an early release day, so I will be home and able to pop on earlier than usual.

Other than weight-loss related, are you making any New Year's Resolutions? Have you made these same resolutions before? What is going to be DIFFERENT this time? Share your resolutions if you would like!

Thanks for the encouragement!! I very much appreciate your idea of planning 7 days of meals and your offer of help in doing so. The planning really isn't my problem so much - it is the sticking to a plan. I am a stress eater and at the moment I have a million things to do at work and at home. So I might have the best plans as to what to eat for a day, but then end up eating something different. The only way to prevent that is to not have the unhealthy stuff available. However, this is the season when there is so much sweet stuff around... In general I just try not to have too many things in stock. For example one of my problems this week was that I got some nice cheese. The plan was to have a small bit with some bread and a salad as an OP dinner. What is it that I do the day before yesterday? I get home totally hungry and end up eating half of the chunk of cheese while I am making my healthy pumpkin soup. And then after dinner I find some white chocolate that was left over from some baking I did. I KNOW that eating those things is not good for me, but it takes so much effort to not eat them and at the moment I feel far too tired and exhausted to come up with the effort.

Sorry for venting - but it does help to talk about it. I feel that it makes it easier to withstand those temptations!!

Oh - and the number on my scale this morning does add motivation, too. My bad eating seems to start to show! :crazy2: Need to stop it ASAP!! Of course on Sunday I am invited to a birthday coffee and cake afternoon...

Yep, it sure is quiet here but we need to keep strong-- it's almost two more weeks until Christmas. :santa: I don't want to spend all of January working off pounds I could gain in the next couple of weeks if I don't stay on track. :sad2:
We can do this! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

I'm sure that we can ALL relate to that feeling of being so hungry that we over eat and/or eat the wrong thing ! I know that I can, for sure! I think you need to have a snack planned for that time of day when you are SO hungry that you can't really wait until dinner. Tell yourself that you will eat a whole apple, cut into pieces to make it slower.... or 20 baby carrots and a full glass of water or cup of tea... BEFORE you make another food decision. Then, if you still want to eat a half a block of cheese, at least you are making a DECISION rather than just having a REACTION to your hunger.

Get busy with something fun or holiday-related while you are waiting for dinner to cook.... put on some holiday music and do some wrapping or clean out a drawer. The dinner timer will be chiming before you know it!

You can finish the year STRONG and PROUD!!

AMEN!! I don't mind a tiny gain right at Christmas and having a splurge on Christmas Eve and Christmas day..... but I have determined that I will NOT use the entire month of December as an excuse to drink peppermint lattes, eat sugar cookies and Christmas Crack (if you don't know what that is, don't even ask!).

I've got the "food thing" under control (for the most part), but it is the exercise aspect that I struggle with.... wish we could help each other out more! Any suggestions to help with the exercise excuses??

Other than weight-loss related, are you making any New Year's Resolutions? Have you made these same resolutions before? What is going to be DIFFERENT this time? Share your resolutions if you would like!

For my weight loss related resolution- at least 1 10K every month (12 total)

For my non weight loss resolution- Habitat for Humanity. I'm looking at 3 weeks in July (Vietnam). Just something I want to do for me, for other people and step outside my comfort zone for a change.

Thanks Pam and Lisa for your encouragement!! It realls means a lot and I know I am stronger for just coming here and talking about it!

Pam, you are absolutely right about that pre-dinner snack. I used to have that as a routine quite well. But somehow lost track of it. I think that's something I really need to get back into.

For a long time I used to use the time when I was cooking for chatting on the phone. Unfortunately it does not work out anymore as people's schedules have changed. But that was a perfect way to keep me from snacking!!

Anyway, this has really given me some new energy and I am determined to make the most out of the remaining time before Christmas!!

Unfortunately I don't have any tips about how to get the exercise in either. I have gotten back into the routine of a nice weekend run and I am looking forward to that this weekend. But otherwise I am struggling there a bit as well...

Mine is going to be to be better with my time management. I spend to much time just doing nothing (mainly killing time with the internet) and I really need to try to spend more quality time: reading a book, taking a hot bath etc. with my spare time. And if I do that, I am sure I will be more rested and therefore more efficient with the rest of the things I need to do!

Oh my! That is SUPER impressive! What a great thing to consider doing!! It would be giving to others PLUS a great experience for you, seeing another culture and another part of the world AND it would probably be a great workout every day!! WIN-WIN!! I hope you get to do this and if you are doing any fundraising, let me know!!

Thanks Pam and Lisa for your encouragement!! It realls means a lot and I know I am stronger for just coming here and talking about it!

You are right about that! Falling away from the group RIGHT WHEN YOU NEED IT MOST is the problem that many folks have. They stop talking when they are struggling.... they skip their WW meetings or other weigh-ins, right when they need the accountability and ENCOURAGEMENT the most!! Glad you haven't done that!!

You have 13 days before Christmas day arrives..... think about how GREAT you will feel that day when you KNOW you have made the BEST choices leading up to it and can relax and SPLURGE a bit on the holiday without GUILT!

Unfortunately I don't have any tips about how to get the exercise in either. I have gotten back into the routine of a nice weekend run and I am looking forward to that this weekend. But otherwise I am struggling there a bit as well...

I need to throw my "excuse book" out the window and start making it a priority again!!

I'm afraid I've fallen under the spell of the internet a bit too much lately myself! There was a point in time not that long ago when I might spend an hour a day online.... checking emails, posting here, and maybe checking out a blog or two.... but then I joined FB.... and then I got involved with the FB yardsale groups.... and then I got on Pinterest.... and BAM.... I could spend HOURS every day online if I am not careful about it! That is why, sometimes, you will see me post that I have xx number of minutes to post.... I will often set myself a LIMIT in the morning so that I don't get pulled under the spell of the computer!!!

*****************

Students are off to library, but since today is an early release day, it is a short time, so I am just going to say hello and good-bye! Wore NAVY pants and BLACK socks and shoes today.... that will teach me to get dressed in the dark! :rotfl: Oh well.... 4th graders don't really care! Plus I did NOT get the memo that it was a JEANS day! :( That would have been nice.... but maybe I'll cheat the system a bit an make tomorrow my jeans day!! :ssst: I'll wear my dark washed.... maybe no one will notice!

Off to check with my Budget Board friends!..........P

For one: I'm am going to FINALLY get my blog up and running!! I'm sick of logging in and seeing "Under construction. Check back soon!" :scared1: So I guess you could say the non-weight loss resolution is to start writing more. :thumbsup2

And if I make any more volunteer commitments, I think the DH will handcuff me to my house! :rotfl2:

Hello everyone

So sorry I have been MIA for so long...not good.

Started back at University, doing an enviromental course so I've been revising like crazy as our first exam was this week (only been 7 weeks of lectures and already an exam!!)

Work has been crazy too. Don't suppose many of you are aware, but we had some freaky weather in the UK last week, hugh winds and an extra high tide which turned into a tidal surge and flooded large parts of the east coast. Unfortunately things were pretty bad for us...we've had to close 2 clinical units due to the ingress of flood water. Unfortunately, they are both childrens units, one day care and one a respite unit for terminally ill children. I feel so sorry for the families who could really do with a bit of a break at this time of year to try and make Christmas as normal as possible for the rest of their families. We have no idea at the moment when we can reopen as industrial cleaning is nderway, then we have to take samples, get them tested etc to see if there is anything nasty left on the premises. Once we get over that hurdle we will have to redecorate and get new furniture etc.

Some of the staff have gone off sick with gastro/vomiting symptoms, so they're being tested to make sure they havent picked up anything notifiable from the floor water.

Just when I thought we were on top of all that, the water main that serves our headquarters building burst yesterday and I had to arrange the evacuation of the building and relocate staff/phones etc until the utility company can sort it...hopefully by tomorrow!

It was supposed to be my day off today, but I was on the phone with various agencies about stuff, even whilst pushing my trolley around the grocery store!! Finally, tomorrow night I have committed to feeding and clothing the homeless........we run a doctors practice specifically for these people and we have secured around $1000 for food and clothes to hand out tomorrow evening at an event we have planned in the town centre. We even remembered to buy dog chews as many of the homeless in the UK have a dog as a companion.

Weight-wise...who knows, keep forgetting to step on the scales....I fall out of bed straight into my work clothes at the moment. Cookies have started to figure in my life over the last few days as I've just been grabbing what everyone offers me!

I have still been running though......still doing my 5K in the park on a Saturday and at the gym on a Monday and Thursday.

Can't wait for OH's work Christmas party on Saturday because I sure am ready to let my hair down. I think I've made reasonably good choices for the meal (well, from what was on offer!!), Tomato and basil soup, gnocchi in a tomato sause with roasted veggies and cous cous, followed by chocolate roulade......I should forgo the dessert really, but that isn't happening!!! I won't be drinking as it's my turn to drive, so will be consuming pints and pints of sparkling water!!!

Will try to have a read back of the pages and pages of posts I've missed, but hope everyone is well and lookig forward to Christmas...I know I am!!!

Hey guys, checking in from Disney on Ice tonight whoop whoop :)

I've been without internet at work & have had a busy week at home in the afternoons. So, I haven't been able to check in too much. Hopefully, I'll catch up between soccer games & cookie baking on Saturday.

Have a great night! Jill

Thanks guys!

I'm 30 years old but I'm trying to figure out when and how to tell my parents who are going to freak out.

They are only going to freak out because they love you and will worry about you being SO FAR away! The other part of them will be SO PROUD that they raised a lovely person who wants to give so much of themself to others in need! But the "worried" part is what you will see first and foremost, unfortunately!

Oh my! Just say NO to the commitments for now! Nice of you to do so much, but if it gets to be TOO MUCH, that isn't good!

Love to hear more about your blog. I've got a plan for one swimming around in my head, but not sure what direction I want to take it in, so I haven't started yet.

Enjoy your time at Disney on Ice! Sorry you haven't been able to check in with us... you've been missed!

********************************

Evening all! I dragged DS off Christmas shopping after our early release afternoon. He hated it, but I got a lot done... used my soon-to-expire coupons (a few different stores) to the tune of over $100 in savings. I'll be the first to admit a few of the things I bought I would NOT have paid full price for any how, but it was nice to score a few "extra" gifts for the kids. Plus I finally got to the jewelers and got 5 new watch batteries.... all of my watches (and DD watches that she left here) had died in the last few weeks. Sadly, my summer white Disney watch didn't even work after the battery was replaced. I didn't pay much for it (at the Disney store a few years ago) so I probably won't get it repaired. oh well.

I bought DS a burger as a treat/bribe for coming with me and DH will be late, so my dinner was scrambled egg whites with onions, peppers, and sundried tomatoes and a cup of decaf green tea... and next up a grapefruit!

See you all in the a.m.! Remember that tomorrow is WEIGH-IN day!! TTYL>...............P

Hahaha yes you are right. I try to remember that. :rotfl: I don't think that will ever change either. You are always their baby- at 30, at 50, always.

Weigh In Day!!

Welcome to the second Friday of the months - and your second Weigh In Day!!

Please send me your updated weight - it is easiest for me if you put the date and the weight in pounds into the subject line of your PM! I will try my best to update as soon as possible!

---

Once again thanks for the support yesterday, I feel like it really helped! I was finally able to get 8 hours of sleep tonight and feel much improved today! I think sometimes the secret to weight loss for me is sleeping enough. If I sleep well, eating well is so much easier!

Pam, seems like you did some very successful shopping yesterday! :thumbsup2 I am nearly done with getting all my Christmas things together. Still need to get some small things for a few friends, but I think this year they might just get a tiny poinsetta plant or so as I don't really have a clue otherwise as to what to get for them... And my mother and I still need to work on a photobook we are planing to put together with some slides that I had digitalized for my father.

Hippie, I think when you tell your parents you should emphasize that you are not doing that on your own, but through an organisation which has experience and has done that successfully in the past! I volunteer for an organisation that organises a year abroad for high school students and often hear that the argument which convinces parents to let their kid go is that our organisation has been involved in these exchanges sinde the 1950s and has lots of experience.

Weigh In Day!!

Welcome to the second Friday of the months - and your second Weigh In Day!!

Please send me your updated weight - it is easiest for me if you put the date and the weight in pounds into the subject line of your PM! I will try my best to update as soon as possible!

Once again thanks for the support yesterday, I feel like it really helped! I was finally able to get 8 hours of sleep tonight and feel much improved today! I think sometimes the secret to weight loss for me is sleeping enough. If I sleep well, eating well is so much easier!

When your body needs rest, it will often feel like a need for food. The body is looking for ENERGY and if it can't get it from sleep, it wants it in the form of calories! So sleep is ESPECIALLY important when we are trying to watch our calorie intake! Glad you are feeling better.

What I need to do now is stop and take an inventory and see where I have "holes" and make a list of what I have left to buy. For now I just keep buying and throwing it into the hiding spot!

Great way to do it!!

Hahaha yes you are right. I try to remember that. :rotfl: I don't think that will ever change either. You are always their baby- at 30, at 50, always.

Yup... your children are ALWAYS your babies, no matter the age! In fact, I think we worry MORE about our grown-up babies because we have so much less control over what they do, where they go, etc.

Morning all! I'm here at work. Got here very early because DS had Costa Rica class before school. I brought my breakfast along and I am enjoying it now. :)

Had a funny moment on the scale this morning. When I stepped on it showed me down 7 pounds!!! First I was like  and then I was like :yay: but of course, I ended up being :rotfl2: because I KNEW it was a fluke. Just wished I had the camera ready! ;) Got off, reset the scale and got a much more realistic number. Down .5.... oh well.

Off to post the QOTD! Hope you all are well and those of you experiencing the brutal force of Mother Nature in the winter, stay safe and stay warm! Predicted lows for New Hampshire (my state) tonight is -5 to -15 deg. :scared1:
