That's what we have in GA instead of real snow. Anyway, forecasting one for tomorrow!!! Yay!! I think my students were in shock to see me as excited about a possible snow day as they are.

Off to Publix to get what I am sure is the LAST gallon of milk...

You have my deepest sympathies. Oh, wait...you actually WANT snow. Then YAY!!! Have fun on your snow day! :teeth:

Not I! I'm also in Atlanta and have no desire to see any snow. I grew up in Buffalo so I have seen enough to last a lifetime! :rotfl2:

I think we are going to get the "wintry mix" in DC starting tomorrow afternoon and into Friday morning.

I'm sure my drive home will be awful and they will probably call the schools off on Friday even if there isn't much accumulation.

I'm halfway between GA and DC, so we're getting it starting Thursday morning!!! We are so excited - we haven't had so much as a dusting in the last 3 years, and we normally get 2 or 3 good (4+ inches) snows per winter.

I took my daughter to school at 8am, then went to the gas station and filled up my car, and then to the grocery store. It was deserted, and I was able to get my normal groceries as well as a few "snow storm" treats and was home by 9am putting them away. Oh, and I "got cash back" so I didn't have to go to the bank!

When it snows, I want homemade spagheti sauce, pot rost, and homemade vegetable beef soup on hand, as well as plenty of hot chocolate and popcorn!!! Oh, and the ingredients for snow cream if we get enough "clean" snow.

All this for about 2 inches if we are lucky!!! But, we are supposed to get ice on top of it, and in central NC ice storms can be really nasty things. I've known storms that felled hundreds of trees and left everyone without power for days. So it never hurts to be prepared!!!!

Yes, I got bread and milk....

Hi Liz,
I'm in the Foothills of NC and I just don't know what or who to believe. Everytime they call for a wintry mix( or my least favorite term "mixed bag") it ends up being rain. I'm trying so hard not to get excited. And then there is the fact that it is supposed to start during the morning commute. I have a 30 min drive. Do I go? Do I stay? I took the day off today because I don't feel good and yes, I went to the store and stocked up on some good food (including bread and milk!) Maybe we should do some sort of snow dance!

Don't go to work.

I live in Virginia (DC area) and not NC, but looking at the weather reports, it looks like you NC people are going to get a nice storm. We will get only half of it here.

About 2 years ago, I was at work during a "wintry mix" and it took me 5 hours to get home (normally takes 45 minutes).

Watch the news tonight and if it seems like a sure thing, just stay home.

I'm in atlanta now too.
I went to college in buffalo - 5 years - you'd think I 'd be sick of snow. But truthfully I do wish we would get a little now and then down here!

Of course, no one down here has any clue how to drive in this type of weather. Its really quite unbelievable!

I'm in Jersey and I will gladly join in the snow dance.  I'm home sick today but I sure would love to be off on Friday too. I won't believe the weather report until I see snow on the ground but I can hope. We have had snow here almost daily for the last week but only a quick dusting that messes up the roads for the morning commute but melts right away. I would love to have enough to build a snowman (even just a little one) and get a snow day.

Amen to that! We had some little something a week or so ago - school wasn't even delayed, but there were about 400 accidents reported during the day in our county, if I remember correctly. Anyway, it was some absurd number like that.

Southern people are idiots in the snow, that's for sure. Maybe we are evolving into creatures who know we are doomed to death if we venture out, and that's why we all rush to the store for bread and milk...

My boss called us in to PREPARE for tomorrow... such weather punks!

I went to school with snow banks taller than me... but in NY you are taught to survive!

Darn it, you are getting my hopes up! :yay:
We really are a couple of years overdue for a snow storm. But thanks for the advice, no job is worth endangering your life for. I just wish it would start tonight, that way I would know for sure in the morning what to do. But like you said, I will watch in the evening and morning. Thanks and stay safe and warm!

They is calling for a wintry mix for us to. There is 20 school systems close already. No I'm not kidding. :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: We is surrounding by mountains here so it be rain.

We did the snow dance at our school, too! During our morning moment of silence, I'm pretty sure most of the teachers were trying to pray a good snow day our way! It usually only takes about an inch or less for us to get a day off, since we're not used to it. People up north probably laugh their heads off at us.

I want snow!!!! I'm in southern NH and we have had maybe 2 inches of snow this year!!! NOT that I'm a big snow person, but I like to have at least ONE BIG STORM!! Looks like the storm coming up the coast is possibly going to miss us. I WANT A SNOW DAY!!

For those that live in the Atlanta region, is it all the hills that make it so difficult to drive? I've been in some of the Atlanta suburbs and some of the streets wind up and down rather dramatically. I would imagine it becomes dangerous to drive in any kind of light snow due to the possibility of skidding off the road (and down those steep embankments).

I'm in Virginia and they've already cancelled school for tomorrow and Friday!

J/K!

If we get what they're saying we're supposed to get, schools will definitely be closed on Friday!

If it would just stay all snow, I'd love it! But when it switches over to that nasty sleet & freezing rain, that's when things get tricky!

I've already been to the grocery store, but I needed to go anyway. The store was empty. I guess nobody has seen or heard the forecast yet! :rotfl:

I'm in the DC area and I hope we get snow too! I just hope that the commutes tomorrow night and Friday aren't a nightmare. It already takes me 40 minutes to go 8 miles into DC.

Atlanta is not particularly hilly. My parents lived in Chattanooga and it was VERY hilly there and became treacherous when the snow fell. There were times my parents were completely snowbound because they lived practically on the side of a mountain.

There are lots of reasons I've been given by natives (I'm sure there will be plenty) but I guess they want to err to the side of caution with the schools. Most people here drive like maniacs without weather problems!

I'm in MD and they're calling for a mix here. I'd much rather see snow than ice-yuck! We've only had a few dustings here all winter so a good snowfall would be nice!
