Winter Weather Escape to WDW and the WL ~ A January 2014 Trip Report

I would have been unhappy with that room too!

I very nearly booked WL for our 2 week stay in October but chickened out as we've stayed at AKL before and knew what to expect, plus Boma had a little to do with it lol

I'm sorry you got so sick, food poisoning is awful. I had it recently after eating at a Chinese buffet and it almost put me off for life.

Thanks Heather! :goodvibes

You might want to consider it, but I don't know how anyone would do it and hold another full time job. It is very time consuming!! ::yes::

That's what always stops me. I have no doubt I would love it, but I always think about the person I would be planning for. If I switch places with them and really think about it, I would be mad if I was trying to work with someone with such time limitations.

It just doesn't seem like I would have the time to dedicate as much as I would need/ want to. Its not fair to them. Maybe someday if/when we have kids it could work out.

Either way, I'm happy you're doing so well with it! I think it's awesome, and obviously the perfect job for you!! :)

Ok, just went back to read. I can't believe you got so sick from Chef Mickeys. That is so disappointing. And after the start you had with the room fiasco. Such a bummer :(

On the plus side, it's so nice to see that your kids (esp DS14) still get so into character pics and hanging out with you guys. I know that once kids hit HS it's sometimes so hard to keep them from getting 'too cool' for all that stuff.

Hopefully you guys will rebound from all these setbacks soon and have a great rest of the trip :)

I have always, always wanted to try Chef Mickey’s. I'm so sorry you got sick though! I have had food poisoning a few times and it is absolutely awful. The food does look really good in the pictures. Have you ever tried breakfast there Shelly?

Not being able to even sleep in a little when you had such a rough night is horrible! :(

You've never been to Chef Mickey's??? It's usually very good. Not sure what happened that night.

We did do breakfast there once. It was okay. We preferred Crystal Palace for a breakfast buffet when the kids were little. Then one day we found Kona and now that's the only place we go for breakfast! :goodvibes

It was a rough night. :faint:

Oh my GOSH. How in this world could you even do this update with pictures??? I wasn't even there and I'm gagging at the thought of it all.

IDK!! :rotfl2:

How absolutely terrible --- the whole experience of that afternoon and night. Not magical or happy. :guilty:

The CM with the upgrade to the woods view-- really! I'm guessing no one is ever happy with those rooms--- how could they be? And they just refuse to move anyone.

I'm so sorry you got so sick. Sick is bad anywhere but when you aren't at home, it just makes it worse, and to be on vacation on top of it makes it a thousand times more awful.

You need a do over trip. :rolleyes1

:teeth:

Yeah, not too much magical going on that day!! :faint: You are right - I do need a do-over!! ::yes::

First -before I forget - your DS14 looks so much older already with his hair cut!

I know!

Onto the mess at WL - I can just imagine how they offered you to PAY to upgrade to a suitable room! UGH. How about, this is a crap room and no one should have to stay here?

Exactly. :thumbsup2

Chef Mickey's looks so fun - we haven't been there since the girls' first trip in 2003! Your DS14 is hysterical with his faces - and you look so calm in the pictures! I figured you'd wait for Minnie - is she still DS12's favorite?

Sorry you got sick from it though!

I have to just sit back and smile at DS14. Sometimes he is too much!! :rotfl:

DS12 has outgrown his love for Minnie unfortunately. :sad2:

That's too bad that they wouldn't give you a free upgrade to another room. The resort didn't seem very full at all. :confused3 I would think that it would be good PR to make the guests happy by giving them a better room.

Did you ever figure out what you ate that made you sick?

It is too bad that they didn't have a handler at Chef Mickey to make sure people waited at their tables for the characters. They had one for Tusker House at AK.

Yeah, I thought they could at the very least move us to a room in the south wing. Aren't there some standard rooms there? I didn't think the resort was very full. I don't think we had anyone on either side of us.

IDK what made me sick. All I really had was a salad, a baked potato, chicken, and a few little desserts. :confused3 Maybe the ranch dressing was bad???

They really did need a character handler there. OR perhaps the parents could have watched their kids!!! :scratchin

If you do decide to ever stay at the WL, get a courtyard view!! :thumbsup2

It was a bad night. Luckily I recovered the next day for the most part.

Yeah, I get several clients tell me that they were working with another travel agency and the agent would take days to respond to any questions and such. People don't like that. They want an answer and they want it right now!! I constantly have my computer on. Even when I turn it off in the evenings, I always check my TA emails on the IPad until I go to bed.

The days I sub at the school I am so swamped when I get home!! :faint:

Luckily the kids still love WDW!! They don't get near as excited or count down the days till we go or anything like that anymore. But once we are there they still have a great time! DS14 went through a phase where he was "too cool" for character pics, maybe when he was about 10-11. Now he does it to humor me and makes the best of it!! If his friends were there it would be a total different story though. :cool2:

Maybe it was that so many things went wrong that it just made you sick. Glad to hear that you started feeling better the next day.

Yeah, maybe that was it!! :rotfl:

No, never. Isn't that horrible?!?!???

I'm hanging my Disney head in shame.

It's always on my list but comes off for some reason or another. Next time hopefully!

I would say yes, it is horrible that you've never been there, but after this experience maybe it isn't such a horrible thing!!! :confused3 :rotfl2:

oh gosh - how horrible that you had to deal with getting sick after the issues with your room. Surprised that they wouldn't even investigate other standard room options that might not have been quite as bad :confused3

I am with you about parents and controlling the kids at buffets. I mean, I am not expecting the kids to be perfect and sit quiet with their hands in their laps the whole time, but you should try to prevent your kids from negatively impacting other peoples experiences

Yeah, it wasn't my best arrival day!! :rotfl:

They were out of control. And the parents just sat there chatting... :headache:

I will never understand parents who allow their kids to act like wild animals at a restaurant, or anywhere for that matter. Are they afraid their kids won't like them if they tell them to sit down and to behave? My kids can hate my guts inside and out all they want to but I'll be danged if I'll have a herd of cattle running around with my last name attached to them and my gene pool showing on their little angelic faces. Lord have mercy.:crazy2:

Our first trip to LTT was when my kids were small and the characters were still there. Minnie Mouse came walking up to our table and before she could stop, this kid from the table next to us leapt from off of her chair and soared thru the air, arms outstretched and grabbed hold of Minnies nose and hung there like she was dang Mary Lou Retton on the uneven bars in the Olympics, legs swinging with her yelling WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE while Minnie Mouse grabbed her head and almost fell down.

And the child was no gymnast, bless her heart. She looked like she'd had a few biscuits in her short time on this earth, and yelled hey mom look at meeeee! While the mother sat there grinning like a mule eating briars and took pictures of the entire sequence of events.

You know I didn't keep my mouth closed girl.:rolleyes1

Almost gave new meaning to the name LIBERTY Tree Tavern. Umm Humm. 'Fo 'Sho.::yes::

Oh My Gosh!!!!!!!!!!!!! :rotfl2::rotfl:

That is hilarious. And disturbing!!

It was about that bad. Not quite, but nearly!! :headache: And it wasn't like my kids cared or like we were there specifically for the characters, but still! :sad2:

No, you know what it is? It's society teaching Little Precious that they are the most important thing in this universe and no matter what they want, that it's ok even if it means that it hurts someone else or makes another person's life unhappy. They are the most important and should be treated accordingly.

Jerks.

:headache::mad:

Liberty Tree Tavern has characters? I have a lunch table service booked. Our first time trying it. We love Tony's so much that it is mandatory.

I also have not been to Chef Mickey's.

We do not want to miss one minute of available park time. So we have tried just about every TS in Magic Kingdom, but Liberty.

Liberty Tree used to have characters. They did away with that a few years ago or so.

We like Tony's too. It's on my list of ADR's to make this Sunday morning!!

Love your new ticker BTW! :thumbsup2

Rude people suck!! And it's disney.. Everyone should be so happy and helpful.. I've done chef mickeys once when the girls were young. Now we skip all the buffets except crystal palace and 1900 park fare.. Those are our faves.. Tonys is great too. We switched it up with via Napoli this upcoming trip. And California grill.. Hope it's good.. Can't wait to read more..

Sorry about the obnoxious children behind you and getting sick at Chef Mickey's. Between the crappy hotel room and your Chef Mickey's experience your trip only has to get better, right?!?!?!

Our last trip to WDW was over my boys' 6th birthday and they picked (and agreed) on Chef Mickey's for their birthday dinner. It was truly magical. I have so many good memories from that dinner that I hope will be permanently ingrained in my brain forever. We always look forward to a dinner there - I just wish it wasn't so expensive!
