What would you recommend for winter running gear? I have some Nike Pro running tights that have worked well as well as a mock neck shirt but the lowest Ive run has been about 35 degrees. I live in Maine, so cold, snow, and ice are a factor as well as running in the dark. Can anyone fill me in on what works for them? I was checking out the asic gortex sneakers but havent found anyone that has used them for winter running.

Try UA or PI clothes.
I had a race that was on 29 degrees and I wore a UA top and PI tights.

Waterproof shoes are a BIG help in winter running. I haven't tried the ASICS, but the Nike's I used made ALL the difference a lot of days. I am also a big fan of the Smartwool socks. Yes, they are pricey and so, so worth it. Make sure to have some way to keep your ears warm. I like a headband most of the time, but sometimes a small fleece hat is welcome, too, along with lightweight gloves. You'll want a breathable but wind-proof jacket as well. A lot of people swear by fleece vests, but they are not my favorite.

Have you seen this tool at Runers' World?

I love my Smartwool socks.

I live in Iowa, so I've definitely run in some seriously cold weather. Layers are key for me, which seems to fit with that Runner's World tool. I usually wear running tights and layer them with either some unlined wind pants or sweatpants (on really cold days). For my top I like to wear a sweat-wicking long-sleeved fitted top and layer over it as necessary (sometimes up to 2 more tops, depending on the cold). When it's just chilly I wear a headband to cover my ears, when it's really really cold I put on a stocking cap. I stick with cheap cotton stretchy gloves when it's cool and move to some nice thick mittens when it's cold.

I have never used that tool @ Runners World either, but I have to say that it's pretty neat. In the winter, I always wear a stocking cap and my under armour. The UA is expensive, but it's well worth the money. :tink:
