Does anyone know whenthe wine tasting is on the 7 night western cruise? Or any more information on this?

On the 7-day Eastern the wine tasting was during a sea day. You were able to sample six different wines. Some information was given about each with a suprise opening of the bubbly. We enjoyed it!

We just returned from Feb 26 Western Magic. I did not attend the wine tasting but my mom, grandmother and sister in law did. It was on Monday an at sea day. They really enjoyed it!! My dad, brother, and I enjoyed the beer tasting that same day!!!

DH and I sailed the 7-night Western at the end of October - DCL offered the wine tasting on the two days that we were at sea. It was held from 2:30 - 3:30 in the afternoon in Sessions on Deck 3. Cost was $12 per person and we made reservations at the guest services desk.

You will try 6 different wines - three white (ours were Reisling, Sauvigon Blanc, and Chardonnay), two reds ( Merlot and Cabernet) and one champagne (usually Disney's Fairy Tale Cuvee which you can only get on the cruise line or at the theme parks). The ship's sommalier will talk about each wine and go over proper tasting procedure with you and in true tasting fashion you will cleanse your palete between each wine sample with bread and water.

You should also receive a special wine tasting trading pin at the end of the tasting session.

We really enjoyed it and will do it again on our nest 7-niight cruise. Sorry if I spelled any of the wines incorrectly - I am an awful speller! :)

BTW - this event is adults only (21 or older, I believe).

Wine tasting is not new to me and DH. We live the Pac NW and can visit any of up to 40 wineries within 60 miles of home, and we use to live in Oregon where we could visit twice that many in half the miles. And we did! (not all at once! ) So, to experienced wine tasters...is this really worth $24 for both of us? Just curious.
If anyone responding has more on the beer tasting...what are the types of offerings? I heard imports... Let's face it, there is no difference really between Bud, Bud lite, Miller, Miller Lite, Coors...etc..... I would be most interested if microbrews were featured...now there's some variation!

The show they put on by opening the bottle of champagne with the champagne glass was worth the $24 for my wife and I!!!! The wine tasting was just a bonus.

Stinasmom,
we did not go to the beer tasting. It was $8 per person for four samples of British Isle beers (Boddingtons, Harp, Guiness and I don't remember the last one). We love trying new beers but the three I just listed are commonly available in the US and we've tried them all so we didn't see much point. And we love wine - with so many different varieties available we thought we were sure to find something new at the wine tasting.

Frankly I was a bit disappointed in the beer selections on the Magic, but that's my opinoin. :cool1:

BTW - Tvguy is right... the trick they show at the end of the wine tasting to open the champagne bottle is great!

The Champagne opening was quite exciting for us. The bottle exploded and both champagne and glass flew all over my mother-in-law. In fact, one of the shards cut her leg - just a small cut, she was fine. The staff was mortified and apologized profusely, saying the exploding bottle has NEVER happened during a "Wine tasting" event (this was on the 01/15/05 Western Magic), but it is always a risk. I've heard since then, they do it much farther away from the guests.

For beginners like us, the Wine Tasting was a lot of fun, and we learned quite a bit. If you are a very experienced wine taster, it may be too basic. It did help us learn more about the wines on the ship, and we were very comfortable ordering and trying wines at Palo after the event. We did not order champagne... :)

Is this also offered on the 4 night Wonder? Is it as much fun? Do you know what day it's on?
Thanks for the info

My husband attended and they cover the basics for newbies: color of wine depending on age, evaluating alcohol content, that kind of thing. He enjoyed it because he got to sample a few new wines (one of which we are now adding to our wine cellar), but if you already know your way around wines, you might want to pass...

Yes, it's offered on the four-night Wonder. On each of our cruises, it's been on the day at sea. The last time we attended, everyone had already been to previous wine tastings, so the somalier went into more detail about the wines, the types of labels and bottles, etc. than they usually do. Of course, now DH wants to try opening our wine bottles with a wine glass!
