Does anyone have resources for wine lists for Jiko and Biergarten? Supposedly the selections are excellent! Mrs. Ambassador informs me my beer drinking days are over. Thank you for your replies.

I have telephoned Jiko before and they have faxed me their current wine list. Last time we dined there it was all South African wines.
Biergarten, I'm not sure how you would contact them.

Jiko's wine list has always been (and hopefully always will be) all South African wines. South Africa makes some wonderful wines and the list is quite extensive. As much as I love the food at Jiko, I also love going there to try some wine that, in all likelihood, I could not find anywhere else.

Jiko has a great wine list. Biergarten has 3 wines and the 2 I tried were not very good; don't go there if you are expecting a quality wine tasting.

Thanks for all your replies! I'm hoping jiko has a wine flight available, and beer and snapps will suit me fine in Germany. Under the watchful eye of Mrs. Ambassador of course!

I don't believe they offer wine flights (though I could be wrong and often am), but I've found their servers to be quite knowledgeable about the wines they offer, and I'm certain your server would be more than happy to suggest wine pairings with whatever courses you choose.

S. Africa does have some excellent wines, though I'm partial to their whites. Some of their reds (none I've had at Jiko, however) have a tendency to possess notes of burnt rubber or tar on the finish. On the other hand, I find most of their white wines to be delightful and full of flavor. Have fun!
