Has anyone stayed at Windsor Hills recently? I'd like to know if they have shuttle service to the parks and, if so, does it go to all the parks and does it run late? Also wondering if it runs to downtown Disney. Thanks!

There are very few if any "villas" localted in a community with shuttle service, except for some of the time share type places.

You can't really walk from there to anywhere.

Plan on getting a car.

We stayed there in May and I beleieve there was shuttle service but you had to pay for it...the person you're renting from should be able to answer that question. We rented a car and loved WH....so close to the parks!

Hehe.. you'd be surprised, most of the owners don't know how it works either! (I'm on a private Windsor Hills owners only board).

However, you're in luck! I took the time to track down all of this information, posted it on my website for our guests.. and also on the WHR owners forums for the other owners...

How does the Windsor Hills Resort daily shuttle service work/operate/etc?

In the sundry shop in the Windsor Hills clubhouse you can find schedules and make arrangements. Shuttle cost is $10 per person round trip to Magic Kingdom, Epcot, MGM, or Animal Kingdom. $14 per person round trip to universal, seaworld, and shopping area. There is an information sheet at the clubhouse with the time schedule. The shuttle company is MAINGATE TRANSPORTATION. They can be called at # 407-390-0000. A taxi cab to Disney is $20 one way.. cab to Universal is $32 one way.... Don't forget it costs $10 per day for parking at Disney and Universal if you drive.

At those rates if you're a family of three or more, even with parking it's going to be cheaper to rent a car, especially after paying to get frmo the airport to WH.

True, but they asked! (It's a common question, and no one seemed to have the answer, so I went out, researched it, and posted it on my website).

There are often times cases of a family being there with 1 car already, but they have teenagers or something similar, or members of their party that would like to be able to get to the parks for a day without driving or needing a 2nd car, this is still a nice option in a case like that, even though I wish it cost less.

If my nephews weren't on the Asberger's spectrum (my SIL would so kill me for that!) and didn't need the extra space I would so be booking your townhouse for next Christmas. I really appreciate all the work you do for your rental and for the boards.

I am stuck driving to AKL to get my teens or to give them taxi money. I love Windsor Palms, and expect to love Windsor Hills too.

Maybe soon when it's just us and a DS or two, we'll be able to book your place.

Thanks Deb! Come visit sometime love to have you! Maybe we should plan a whole DISweek there next year or something at WHR! All book it like a 9-12 months in advance and all go on the same week next Jan or something! Do a big pool BBQ party or something fun...that'd be a blast! hehe...bet we could get a group of 50+ going if we tried hard enough! Get everyone to stay at the same resort and have a big event or something....just have to book it far out to get them all at the same time. /thinks hard....hmmm..... Imagineering at work here.... sound fun to anyone else on this board? /grin

Now that sounds like an awesome plan!:yay: :yay:

Hi George - do you know how late the shuttle runs? And does it run to Downtown Disney - we're going to have my niece babysitting for us so we'd like to travel in to the parks, have some drinks with dinner and not worry about driving.

The phone number for the Community Association office is 407-787-4255. If you have specific questions, you could ask them.

I don't know that actually... and if you call the WH HOA association they're going to tell you the times are posted in the sundry shop (which is not helpful at all...how do you think I tracked down all of this valuable information?) So, my suggestion is not to call the WHR resort for anything at all!!

You need to call Maingate Transportation and ask them directly, they run the shuttle company, they are the ones who can give you 100% factual information.

The WH resort office in the clubhouse is not a "resort" type hotel office, they do not really deal with guests at all, besides issuing you your pool/clubhouse pass. They take care of owners, the HOA association, grounds & maintenance, run the resort employees, and there's a Pulte sales office in there still for the few remaining new construction homes in the new Windsor Hills Reserve section of the resort, but that's about it. They have pretty much zero to do with guests, that's how the resort is setup if that makes sense, you are renting from owners and MCs in the resort directly, which is one of the reasons it's so cheap to rent there!

The shuttle company is MAINGATE TRANSPORTATION. They can be called at # 407-390-0000. (They may also make arrangement for you to cab it over to DTD if you like too, etc).

From the parks you're in the WDW transportation system, you can easily get from any WDW park over to DTD, tons of free Disney buses everywhere at the parks at all hours. Someone else on the DIS can give you more specifics on this or chime in.

From DTD though there are always dozens of cabs lined up there at most any time at all...if you want to go there and have a drink, that's what I might do, at least for getting back home, it's so close to Disney it can't be that expensive. We always look at cab rides as cheap insurance against a DUI or worse!! I'm a big believer in not drinking and driving! We're doing the same in DTD/PI Friday night...but walking back to our hotel rooom in DTD on Friday night for the same reason (Royal Plaza DTD). (My place was already booked on Friday night! hehe)

Let us know what Maingate says! Don't forget you can "rent" DVDs in the WHR sundry shop and get popcorn for the kids so they can have "movie and pool" night on Sat night while the big kids go out! :)

George,

Thankyou for answering everyones questions so thoroughly, we are staying in WH in April/May and i know we are going to have a better time there from the information i have learned from your answers to questions i would not have even thought of asking!!!

Have a great holiday

You're welcome! We try hard to be a good "resource" for everyone! That's why I spend so much time here on the DIS in fact, so that I can learn everything possible I can about Disney and such... and pass it along to people! We figured now that we bought a place, it made a lot of sense to try and pass along our experiences from vacationing there, etc, right or wrong! It's like when you go to a new area, wouldn't it be great if you had a "local friend" along with you to kind of show you the ropes? I get a lot of great ideas, information, etc from the DIS, the least I can do is try and give a little bit back! :thumbsup2

George - You are the best. I am so glad we decided to rent from you for our May trip. I feel like we have our own personal guide for any questions we may need answered. Can't wait for our trip May 12-19 (113 days).

It is neat to see how involved you are in helping out anyone on the DISboards, not just those of us who are lucky enough to rent one of your units.

Maria

Just getting ready to leave for the airport soon! YAY! I'm actually meeting several other owners down there too! Now I have to run to the post office...package there for me...we're testing out a new VOIP phone service for our place... if it works like I hope it well then we will have unlimited free us, canada, and international calling service to offer our guests! (It's like a Vonage..the service runs over your internet connection...).

I appreciate your reply very much. We just booked a home at Windsor Hills for our annual March trip. We will rent a car as usual, but my mother sometimes gets tuckered out before we do, and it would be nice for her to be able to get back safely to the villa on her own if she were so inclined.

Exactly! Great for situations like that...or say, your teenage kids that want to head over to the parks on their own for the day.

For getting home though, personally I would probably take a cab. You can walk out of any park or DTD and there are cabs waiting there all of the time, the shuttles run on more of a fixed schedule, so if mom gets tired earlier, the cab is the solution, you can take one pretty much whenever you like, and it's so close to WDW, it's not going to cost all that much.

George, you happen to have a guesstimate on the cab fare? Say, from TTC?

No, I'd just be guessing, no idea what cabs cost in Florida I usually take them here in Chicago to get to/from the airport or downtown (I'm sure it costs more here though!). I'll bet someone on the DIS might know though!
