Has anyone stayed at the Windsor Court Hotel in New Orleans?? DH and I were thinking about going for a weekend and were curious about the location. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

Scooter, I've visited the hotel but haven't stayed there. It's really spectacular, part of that handful of hotels owned by Orient Express. It's truly world class, and along with the newish Ritz-Carlton, is the finest large hotel in the city.

Try this link out and see if you don't drool. In a city full of fine restaurants, the Grill Room is supposed to be peerless. BTW, we're staying at Charleston House next week - another Orient Express property. I bought points to burn 'em, and its just DW and I - yahoo!

Thanks so much ... we're with you about points ... we bought them to use and this looks like a wonderful alternative. Thanks again.

I haven't stayed at Windsor Court, but I've had dinner there. It's about a 5 minute or so walk from there to Bourbon Street. The Riverwalk and casino are both closer, just a couple of blocks away. The hotel looks to be extremely nice, and the restaurant was fabulous.

The only criticism I would have is that it doesn't "feel" like you're in New Orleans when you're inside its walls. But that can be a positive, too. New Orleans is all around you, of course, and it's nice to have a refuge in the heart of all the action.

All of this is from memory, and this was my big birthday trip so it's possible the details are a little fuzzy. In fact, I was pretty fuzzy myself by the end of the trip.

The Windsor Court ranks among the top hotels in the world. I had a boss who traveled the world extensively and always wanted nothing but the best. He'd find fault with almost every hotel. He loved the Windsor Court. A large convention held every year in New Orleans would book just about every hotel in town. All the "big shots" booked the Windsor Court first. I look forward to staying there some day, too. But, second-hand information I can offer indicates it really is something special.

I have also heard nothing but raves about The Grill Room from this same group. I think there may be a dress code so you might want to check that and I'm pretty sure reservations are necessary.

Thanks everyone... this sounds like a wonderful place to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary next year. DH and I have always wanted to go to New Orleans so this looks like the perfect answer. Here we are planning a year ahead -- but then, DVC does that to you!!

Re: the Windsor Court. Actually, the Grill Room has a "jackets optional" policy, but it's the kind of place where you'd probably feel a little more comfortable dressed up.

We're lucky enough to be less than 2 hours from New Orleans, but I'd still like to get at least one night at the Windsor. New Orleans is like nowhere else - gotta love it!

I'd just avoid it in the middle of summer. Think WDW gets hot? New Orleans is so humid that you feel like you're swimming.

I know what you mean about the humidity -- DH and I are both originally from the St. Louis area which is very humid, but nothing compared to New Orleans. Fortunately, our anniversary is in November, so we'd either go then or, if decided to celebrate very early, we'd go in the spring when the flowers are blooming -- but not anytime near Mardi Gras!! Our real mission will be to hit as many restaurants as possible. Is there a beignet record we could go for??
