Wind and Fireworks in late August?

Hello!

I am going to Disneyland in late August, so I can celebrate the 60th Anniversary!

I know that fireworks can be cancelled due to wind, but I was wondering how common that is in late August? I am unfamiliar with SoCal weather, so I don't know what time of year it is more common for fireworks to be cancelled. I really want to see the Disneyland Forever fireworks, that was part of my reason for deciding to treat myself to a quick trip to Disneyland.

Thanks!

We were there the second half of last August and there was no wind to speak of, a slight breeze would've been welcome in the upper 90s heat. I think wind is a bigger factor in fall, been numerous times in Oct and it was windy but never enough to cancel fireworks.

It's much more common in the fall but this past week has seen several cancellations, which isn't normal for this time of year. It's hard to speculate but "normally" it's fine. Just allow yourself an extra night, if possible, in case you need to make a second attempt to see them.

How windy does it have to get? I'm a baseball fan, and I've watched quite a few games on TV played in Anaheim. On night games it wasn't unusual for smoke to start blowing in from the Disneyland fireworks, even though it's over a mile away.

It's not just how hard the wind is blowing, the direction also plays a factor. I'm sure they haven't released their specific requirements but the fire marshalls do have final say and I'm sure it's based on a number of variables such as wind speed (specifically higher elevations), directions, gusts, etc, and it is constantly changing, so they do occasionally wait a few minutes and if conditions change, will set them off.

Keep checking the weather updates (try NWS San Diego office) for red flag warnings. When you see one for the Anaheim area, there is a good chance fireworks will be cancelled, unless the wind changes speed and directon at the last minute. Disney knows how much guests count on seeing the fireworks and they don't want to cancel unless there is no other option. Also, try to see the fireworks early in your trip. That way, if they are cancelled, you'll still have other opportunities before you leave.
