Wilma landfalled as CAT 3... Damage Reports just coming in

Why isn't the FSU public again? Is this the one that was the most accurate predictor last year?

Its just made only for meteorologists use. Its not that is espically accurate but what it does is it blends all the models together and gives best guess track based off all models combined.

Right now it says just north current NHC track. About or near Bonita Springs which is 30 miles south of Ft. Myers. GFS still says charlotte/sarasota line. Usually it can be accurate so it does bear some watching. Overall general concensus is southwest florida landfall. I cant stress enough though that a 50 mile jog north couldnt happen. The nhc says a 50 mile north or south jog for landfall about 1.5 days out is acceptable when it comes to forecast accuracy.

Any jog more then likely would be north and not south. Only making conditions worse for those in Central Florida and West Central Florida.

Stay tuned for updates.

Noon update:

Although her winds and pressure have not rised we still expect winds to increase later and pressure to decrease. She will then weaken again slightly just prior to landfall. Making landfall now as CAT 2 with 105 mph winds. Although she is on a more southerly path right now there still could be wobbles but at this time it would be hard for her to wobble much to the north as trough is getting a hold of her pretty well. New warnings and watches have been issued. All preps to protect life and property in Central and South Florida should have already been completed and there is only about 4-6 hours of good weather left to prepare. Stay Safe! Update forecast tonight at 9 and 11pm.

Update Forecast:

Tampa Area and Sarasota will see winds around 40 miles per hour with gusts as high as 60 mph. Frequent heavy rain and possible tornadoes.

Wilma is getting stronger believe it or not and may become a CAT 3 prior to landfall!

Update:

Hurricane Wilma landfalled just south of Marco Island this morning as a strong Cat 3 hurricane with winds at 125 mph. She is now moving into the Atlantic Ocean where she will speed off to the North and East. At this time she no longer poses a threat directly to the USA. If her course changes or she does start to cause adverse weather condtions I will issue new advisories. Hope everyone was safe and has limited damage.
